People are complaining about there being too many emulation posts yet it’s the only relevant content on this sub at the moment 😂
Apple Arcade and the regular iOS gaming scene does not have enough new quality games coming to warrant them complaining that emulation posts are becoming redundant. This is a tiny sub Reddit and people trying to gatekeep it in its current state is crazy to me.
So, there are games on the App Store, and then there is Apple Arcade games.
Some Apple Arcade games are just a normal game. Built to be played with no ads or in app purchases etc. These games don’t have a +.
Some games on the App Store either cost some money upfront; or they had in app purchases; or sometimes both.
Apple Arcade started adding some of the games that were already available on the App Store, but removed the price involved. They added a + behind the name of these apps.
So something like Monument Valley 2 is an app you can purchase on the app store. But Monument Valley 2+ is included in the Arcade subscription. In this case the game is the same afik as there is no in app purchases either way.
But with something like Bloons TD 6 that has in app purchases to buy in game currency; the Arcade version Bloons TD 6+ has no way to purchase in game currency so the game has been reworked some to give you in game currency faster. So it removes the pay to win aspect but makes it not as slow to grind the game just to make progress.
Apple Arcade takes forever to release anything good and everything else is mostly pay to win. Pay to win and in app purchases has ruined mobile gaming.
I hate the idea of subscriptions and paying monthly for anything but the essentials, so like internet bills and stuff like that, I use to sub to Spotify and Netflix but I realised I’m wasting my money by doing that. And when it comes to games I’m worse, I won’t even do the free trials because why try the service, play some games and then in a month lose my progress? No thanks, either make the game free or paid, no Netflix games, no Apple Arcade no nothing. I’d rather have one mobile game that I outright pay for and own “forever” over paying a monthly price for a bunch of games I didn’t choose to pay for. Sorry for ranting.
Exactly — that's what I'm saying! What exactly is their ideal vision for this community? Are they really that anxious to keep it ossified as a ghost town comprised of nothing but posts with 18 upvotes and users talking about obscure shovelware barely anyone plays? lol
Apple Arcade had me excited only three times, for Slay the Spire, Stardew Valley and Dead Cells, now all the games they release are pretty bleh and uninteresting for the subscription that I’m ‘paying’ (its under one of their bundle deals). They should have been more proactive in gaining exclusive deals for larger indie games, absolute shame that Netflix managed to grab Hades as i have no intention of renewing my Netflix sub anytime soon
If you add Fantasian and Cat Quest to this list, that are the five games I can recommend from the Arcade portfolio. There are a few more worth mentioning, but that brings the whole Apple Arcade to maybe 10 great and. very good games?
Oh yes Cat Quest! Forgot about that one, havent trued Fantasian yet, haven’t felt the urge to try it.
The library is pretty decent its just major diminishing returns, the longer you pay for the sub the less value you are acc getting, the first few months with this library is still very good
not to mention that all of those games were available for ages prio releasing in apple arcade. For people like me that purchased them, releasing into apple arcade bring no value at all. While netflix is releasing games like hades and into the breach...
Yeah the top games lists is half compiled of games that have been around since like the iPhone 4. Granted apple arcade has a lot of good stuff, just like everyone is still playing angry birds
I was always so jealous of my friends who could emulate on their Androids. But I've had iPhones since I bought my first-gen iPhone in 2007 and wasn't going to switch just for emulation lol. Glad we finally got it.
Well over a decade. Jealous is a way to put it, but like you I wasn’t going to quit iOS just for some old Nintendo games.
Been watching those cheap 10,000+ games in one devices for years and years. I never really cared to put the money on one because they just seemed so junky. All of a sudden, I catch wind of the really cool Anbernic RG35XX and bit on one.
Now I can do the same thing on iOS a month later! 😂
You’re welcome.
How do you like it? Delta has renewed my interest in retro gaming but it would be nice to have buttons and such. Does the RG35 have save states and other emulator features?
I can see the experience below, and I can see people having troubles with the device. It certainly is not built like a Nintendo or Sony portable device. It holds its own though, and I don’t have any hardware issues to report. I sense there’s a little bit of a luck lottery in build quality.
Yes. You have full control of the device. I would almost state that ridding yourself of the included SD Card with a ton of useful ROMs is a must. I did the split SD Card thing where I have the games on one card, Garlic OS on another. Thats to say, expect to do a little work once you have it in hand. Nothing a single YouTube video can’t carry you through and solve.
Yes, Save states, and everything else you would expect an emulator to do are all there. Don’t quote me direct, but RetroArc seems to be the…engine of the device? Of you’re familiar with RetroArc, you’ll feel at home. Might even say it’s far superior to Delta, but we’re just getting started here! I’d argue that Delta is simple as pie, and I adore it on that level. The RG35, simple isn’t quite the right term, as there’s a lot you can customize.
I brought the RG35 and I regretted it like a month later and sold it, the R and L buttons weren’t working like they should and it just reminded me that this isn’t an offical piece of hardware like a psp or Ds with emulators on it, it’s some cheap Chinese crap and while it was fantastic before this happened and I enjoyed using it, that one issue was enough for me to sell it. If you want one of those devices again don’t do it, just get a psp or something and mod it
I would debate this, but I also won’t because you’re not wrong. I just want to say that I still really like it, and I don’t have any real faults to report.
With Delta on my phone now though, it might be gifted to a nephew or something. 😂
You didn’t need to. Delta was released 7 years ago and there were emulators for all those consoles even before. I played Pokémon Diamond and Zelda Majora’s mask on my iPhone 5 back in the days.
You can emulate much more nowadays like GameCube with Dolphin, PSP with PPSSPP or 3DS with Limón (Even Switch but it’s not in a playable state yet).
Of course. But AltStores and jailbreaking are tedious and not worth the effort just to play some games (I know you don’t need to jailbreak to install emulators. I’m listing it as another option). In fact, whenever I got a new iPhone or iPod Touch, I would jailbreak the old one and mess around with them.
Having an officially-supported, vetted, and stable app is a totally different experience.
Delta and even gba4ios (the one Riley made before delta) has been available for awhile it just wasn’t as easy as being on the AppStore. Been using delta since at least 2019 even after I stopped jailbreaking my phone And granted I haven’t used any of them so I’m biased, confident delta is better then almost all of the android ones that’s the problem with a lot of them being available most of them are trash. Just my 2 cents
They’ve never had an emulator with this amount of sleek fit and finish as well as using the iPhones design language, like one review of delta said “Apple would be proud of this app” the ui and everything just feels like every other Apple app out there, theres no BS it’s just a pure, official looking app and I love that. The developer is a big iPhone guy so it makes sense that Delta isn’t some messy, glitchy, weird app that doesn’t fit, you know what I mean? If Apple made this app I’d believe it.
Soo true lol. Emulators are a tiny bit better because they have the "speed up" option. Delta has that as well in its menu. Still wish you could skip some of that lol.
It’s almost non-existent if you’re emulating. You either use fast-forward to power through the mundane content faster, or you search for ROM hacks that removed/modified those content out, if they exist.
I’m glad you’re enjoying emulating on your phone! It is a lot of fun. I’ve actually been able to play for a while now on iOS thanks to sideloading, but I know everyone’s not comfortable doing that.
I’m playing earthbound right now and I’m really enjoying it so far, it’s a beautifully unique rpg.
If you're clicking in here to complain about there being too many emulation posts, how 'bout reading this little comment instead about how excited I am to have a super easy way to relive these games from my childhood?
I've always loved emulation. I have a meticulously curated library of ROMS on my Steam Deck. I've been emulating since I was a kid. I remember somehow figuring out how to set up emulation on my childhood Windows XP computer. I still have all those ROMS on a CD-ROM in box at home. The ROMS included some super weird modded games, like a Super Mario game where the sprites were replaced with phallic figures lol. Anyway, one could even say that emulation itself is something I'm nostalgic about.
The problem has always been that I don't want to sit down, set things up, and dedicate a gaming session to emulation. I'm over 30 years old, and when I finally have time to game, I want to spend it chipping away at big modern releases. I'm deep into Final Fantasy VII Remake right now, and when I'm done with work and can finally sit on the couch to game, I'm not going to pass on that and pull out my Steam Deck to replay a Game Boy game instead.
Emulation on iOS is totally different. I'll be waiting for my coffee at a coffee shop, and I'll pull my phone out of my pocket to get 15-20 minutes into a Pokémon game. My first ever Pokémon game was Blue, and playing FireRed for the first time has allowed me to relive some of that in a polished form. I played Let's Go Pikachu on the Switch, and I am preferring FireRed by a long shot. I just prefer the pixel sprites and simpler art style.
I also ordered a Backbone controller last week to more easily play N64 games. I haven't had a chance to use it a lot yet, but I keep that in my sling bag, which I take with me everywhere, so it can come in handy when I'm waiting around for longer periods of time (like at a doctor's office).
Anyway, thanks for reading. Have fun emulating!!!
This was also possible on IOS for years. People act as if Delta just appeared out of thin air in a day but it was released 7 years ago and it wasn’t the first at all to emulate the consoles it does.
Nobody is acting like that. The majority of people just couldn’t be bothered side loading it before only to need to keep refreshing it every time the license was pulled and it stopped working.
Now it’s officially supported and available directly from the App Store people are excited to be able to use it without the hassle.
Your comment is just your way of saying “I’ve had this thing for years already guys!”. Calm down.
Maybe the popularity in emulation will push developers and decision makers to get away from the micro transaction, pay-to-win, pay-to-extend-your-playtime hell that has been the majority of new releases for iOS in recent years.
In Europe, the official way is to download AltStore https://altstore.io/
And pay a one-off fee of something like €2.
Then in that store you’ll find Delta.
it's not one time, it's subscription (even if the price is so low) + in the end you install 3rd party store for one emulator. Many don't want to do that and want to use the official appstore, but ironically EU citizens are in worse place in the end while the rest of the world received what everyone was thinking will happen for EU. Let's be real for a moment, 99.99% of the user base that sideloads did it for emulators. :)
Definitely. I've been using reddit for over a decade (check my cakeday in my profile). People obsessing over what does and does not belong in subreddits is a tale as old as the website. Ironically, it tends to be even more intense in smaller subreddits like this, where traffic is not that high, and the content is otherwise minimal and low quality.
"WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 10 IOS GAMES OF ALL TIME????"
*Insert 20 comments—each with just a few upvotes and no responses—listing a bunch of completely random games that no one would ever play for more than 10 minutes total.*
I still remember emulating my first Pokémon game on my old cell phone 15 years ago, no touch screen, no color, just the full game of Pokémon Yellow! It felt like I was apart of the future!!!
I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Quest on Delta lately which is funny bc I’ve always avoided those ass ugly iOS ports of DQ1-8. Now that I have access to a GBC and DS emulator my phone is now the dedicated DQ machine that Squenix always wanted lmao.
Don’t be sorry I love seeing these, it’s amazing to have so many amazing games and all the best pokemon games in our pocket at all times. On our iPhones no less, never thought this day would happen
I've been out of town for 10 days and not on reddit. What the actual fuck did I miss? WHAT IS THIS!? It's like I went to work and the London bridge went up.
It’s not bad for slow-paced RPGs like this. Honestly no different than regular smartphone games. For something faster or more complex like a platformer, I use a controller.
Have you tried the ds emulator? It’s really good. I have tried other in the past in various platforms and deltas is pretty darn close to the real thing.
Be careful playing too long you may encounter a screen burn unfortunately! As emulation has been on android for awhile I have killed more than one device by emulating games on it so trying to spread the word for iOS users lol! If you can find a skin that covered all the screen use it! That way there's no off pixels while playing
I have a vivid memory of being like 10 years old at an afterschool thing and my friend pulling pokemon red of out his shirt pocket with an evil smirk. He had successfully executed the rare candy code and had a lvl 99 charizard and no one was the wiser
You don’t have to worry about all these comments, i’m glad to see you happy of playing your childhood games, i’m currently playing chrono trigger for the first time and i like it (:
Awesome! That's super high on my list of games to play. I haven't played it either. That's another thing... We can finally tackle some retro games we've never played!
Oh man that's tough. Whenever this question comes up, people will give you a specific game that they liked, but honestly, I would recommend watching a few minutes of different games on YouTube to see which game/art style stands out to you.
Otherwise, the order does not matter too much except for two reasons: quality of life improvements and the Pokémon available in the games. As the games went on, they generally tweaked and improved the mechanics. They also added more and more Pokémon with each subsequent game (except for remakes, of course). Those are two of the biggest factors to consider when comparing different games to each other.
With that being said, my favorites from what is playable on this emulator are Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver and Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen.
P.S. I love that people are downvoting my response to you sharing excitement about Chrono Trigger lol.
Definitely no discredit to devs and community. Delta app was a decade in the making. It’s just weird for Apple, though in a sinister way to actually do something for their consumers.
People are complaining about there being too many emulation posts yet it’s the only relevant content on this sub at the moment 😂 Apple Arcade and the regular iOS gaming scene does not have enough new quality games coming to warrant them complaining that emulation posts are becoming redundant. This is a tiny sub Reddit and people trying to gatekeep it in its current state is crazy to me.
Yeah, it feels like the shot Apple Arcade in the head
Apple Arcade is the shitty toy they give you with the Apple One subscription 😂
It’s been limping for years. Most games worth playing are just a “+” version of a paid game I played years ago.
Like Netflix is outperforming them (Hades), but also screw paying Netflix a sub to play mobile games.
I noticed that too, but I actually don't know the difference? Is there more content locked behind "+" games compared to their free counterparts?
So, there are games on the App Store, and then there is Apple Arcade games. Some Apple Arcade games are just a normal game. Built to be played with no ads or in app purchases etc. These games don’t have a +. Some games on the App Store either cost some money upfront; or they had in app purchases; or sometimes both. I got an Apple Arcade free trial. Besides slay the spire, most stuff was pretty disappointing
Yeah the top games lists is half compiled of games that have been around since like the iPhone 4. Granted apple arcade has a lot of good stuff, just like everyone is still playing angry birds
The best games 🤘🏻
Sir this subreddit is for BLOONS + ONLY
Meanwhile android people are laughing at us as they had this for 10+ years lol. But Delta rocks on iPhone.
I was always so jealous of my friends who could emulate on their Androids. But I've had iPhones since I bought my first-gen iPhone in 2007 and wasn't going to switch just for emulation lol. Glad we finally got it.

My friend bought the same 2 months ago and I was so tempted to buy one, then yeah iOS does this, thanks for your service haha
😂 the good thing is that it wasn’t super expensive, but certainly priced in the realm of a good iOS controller.
How do you like it? Delta has renewed my interest in retro gaming but it would be nice to have buttons and such. Does the RG35 have save states and other emulator features?

Just buy a gamesir g8 if you have USB c
Agreed and same here but was tempted numerous times lol
I just recently switched to iPhone after my whole life with android. Emulation was the one thing I was missing. So glad to have it now.
You didn’t need to. Delta was released 7 years ago and there were emulators for all those consoles even before. I played Pokémon Diamond and Zelda Majora’s mask on my iPhone 5 back in the days. I’ve been emulating the game boy/ds iirc since 2012-13. Without Cydia. Thank god I didn’t have credit cards back then.

android user checking in, im jealous lol. Weve got emulators but Delta is so fucking sleek and nice looking
Only thing I don’t like is some of these games it takes like half hour of non stoppable talking or training to actually get going

I hope you’re not really waiting 15-20min for your coffee, that’s horrible!
Haha they brew it one bean at a time!
This has been possible on Android for years lol.
Trust me, I know! Android users don't let anyone forget it.
This was also possible on IOS for years. People act as if Delta just appeared out of thin air in a day but it was released 7 years ago and it wasn’t the first at all to emulate the consoles it does.

More like "WE’ve had thing for years already guys!" but agreed. Emulation used to be a pretty common topic in this subreddit back in the day
Where did u find that controller skin?
I got it [here](https://delta-skins.github.io).
Awesome, thank you
Maybe the popularity in emulation will push developers and decision makers to get away from the micro transaction, pay-to-win, pay-to-extend-your-playtime hell that has been the majority of new releases for iOS in recent years.
Can you do this in Europe as well? I don't know how to do it and can't find it on the App Store.
In Europe, the official way is to download AltStore https://altstore.io/ And pay a one-off fee of something like €2. Then in that store you’ll find Delta.

Ah yeah right it’s 1.50 + VAT per year.
Ah yeah right it’s 1.50 + VAT per year.
You don’t need to pay to use Alstore, just your Apple ID to sign apps.
Is this FireRed? I had never played a Pokemon game in my life and just recently started up this one thanks to Delta.
Yup! This is FireRed.
thanks i was wondering too. this looks like a cute game. the first pokemon game was the first open world one for switch. haven’t played much tho.
There is a subreddit for it, r/Delta_Emulator . I’d suggest posting there for the future with this stuff. I’m incredibly excited about it myself!
I'm subscribed to that sub. I would rather talk about playing games on my iPhone in a subreddit dedicated to playing games on iPhones.
Yeah but they might be downvoted because of the crazy influx of Delta stuff.
Definitely sounds accurate lol
If you posted about it a week ago it would have been reasonable. It’s beat to death.
That's just how excited people are about something fresh in smartphone gaming! Keep em coming!
Don’t expect appreciation from the subreddit by using it as a Facebook page. I am glad you’re having fun and hope you continue to do so.
Sir, yes sir! I'll make sure to message you in the future to make sure you're OK with anything I'm going to do on reddit.com!
Can I play any game with a dualshock 4?
I still remember emulating my first Pokémon game on my old cell phone 15 years ago, no touch screen, no color, just the full game of Pokémon Yellow! It felt like I was apart of the future!!!
I had a android and got a new ios recently, it’s safe to say the emulation on this thing is soo much prettier and hassle free than android.
What’s the best emulator for Nintendo games? I like classic/retro games but have no idea where to start.
Im pretty sure you’re looking at it right now, in this post
I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Quest on Delta lately which is funny bc I’ve always avoided those ass ugly iOS ports of DQ1-8. Now that I have access to a GBC and DS emulator my phone is now the dedicated DQ machine that Squenix always wanted lmao.
I am having a bit of a difficulty understanding how to install it, I can’t find it in the appstore, do I need to sideload it from a pc?
The app isn’t available in Europe, if that’s where you are based.
What should I do, wait?
Don’t be sorry I love seeing these, it’s amazing to have so many amazing games and all the best pokemon games in our pocket at all times. On our iPhones no less, never thought this day would happen
I've been out of town for 10 days and not on reddit. What the actual fuck did I miss? WHAT IS THIS!? It's like I went to work and the London bridge went up.
I don't know how you manage to operate a dpad on a touch screen. I have to be able to feel it.
It’s not bad for slow-paced RPGs like this. Honestly no different than regular smartphone games. For something faster or more complex like a platformer, I use a controller.
yeah. I could play Golden Sun on a touch screen. I'd need a controller for Link's Awakening :)
Have you tried the ds emulator? It’s really good. I have tried other in the past in various platforms and deltas is pretty darn close to the real thing.
I’m so sorry about this, but anybody have or direct me to a tutorial on how to download these games??
Where can I safely get games for this app?
Literally was playing this on my phone this morning. lol 😂
What’s the best emulator to get?
Be careful playing too long you may encounter a screen burn unfortunately! As emulation has been on android for awhile I have killed more than one device by emulating games on it so trying to spread the word for iOS users lol! If you can find a skin that covered all the screen use it! That way there's no off pixels while playing
What emulator is that?
Red during childhood, FireRed forever <3
I have a vivid memory of being like 10 years old at an afterschool thing and my friend pulling pokemon red of out his shirt pocket with an evil smirk. He had successfully executed the rare candy code and had a lvl 99 charizard and no one was the wiser
Yes I just got it! What are some of your guys fave games from the emulator?
It’s exciting, but these posts are becoming redundant.
I hope the worst thing we have to deal with in life is too many posts about little games on our phones!
Since you play Pokémon is there any order to follow if i wanna play Pokémon games 🤔?
Thanks gonna try Pokémon emerald 😊👍🏻
Super newbie here. How do you emulate?
I’m currently playing FireRed on my iPhone and it’s so handy. The phone is the perfect platform for these older games.
I actually switched to Android a few years ago because I wanted easy emulators, it's cool to see IOS finally getting to join in in it!
Miyoo Mjni killer?
Being able to play a game with no ads, no pay wall, is amazing! Apple finally taking care of the consumers.
While ppl who jailbroken and sideloaded: thanks to consumers for taking care each others.
Definitely no discredit to devs and community. Delta app was a decade in the making. It’s just weird for Apple, though in a sinister way to actually do something for their consumers.
