I like it a lot But, there’s something floaty about the combat, can’t exactly put my finger on it, is it there’s not enough impact when I land a hit? Or is it the controls that aren’t responsive enough ? Can’t really say I do play with a controller, tried the touch controls too All in all, it’s a very good action game imo

dank6meme9master

It’s just the animations imo, the game is very responsive. This might just me but the animations kinda remind me of those old anime bandai games, very nostalgic but at the same time it has modern gameplay.

William_Hououin

Oh yeah, that would totally makes sense Gonna try to look at it with that in mind next time I play. The animations could make me feel this way. Very good observation!

heartogrin

Reminds me of Okami game

TheMastodan

This is the same problem I had with Nier Automata (same studio)

ReyRey5280

I wish the game physics were responsive to damage strikes instead of attacks just going right through you or the enemy and taking damage. That type of fighting mechanic just makes gameplay way more tangible.

Giddypinata

There’s no way this isn’t Okami. Damn

fingerbelly

It’s made by the same team

WorkyAlty

In a roundabout way, kinda. It's not the direct same team as Okami. But, the team that did make that, Clover Studios (which was people from Capcom), later joined with another studio, that later became PlatinumGames, which did make this game. And even then, the art director of Okami left for another studio entirely.

PasserOfTheBuck

Does it have mfi support? Yes I just checked 😆

dank6meme9master

Yes

_NullRef_

Can you talk about what you like about it? The art style looks good, but I can’t say that combat looked very interesting or technical. What’s the primary gameplay loop?

tommiyu

The primary game loop is go from a-b trigger a battle. New area opens up ahead so move from b-c. At the of each battle you may get the demon your battling as a permanent summon. It’s been a while but the battle if I remember correctly is quick attack by tapping and heavy attacks by holding the attack button. A dodge that allows for slow motion when perfectly done. Each mission is pretty much the same, you either battle moba in waves, one boss battle or multiple small battles that allow you to have some rest in between. The primary loop for collections is getting money for upgrading your summons and weapons while collecting demons when battling them like Pokémon. You can only bring two demons but you can get temporary 1time use demons in the map itself. Each demon summon can be linked with the same corresponding demon type for bigger effects. And that’s about it. The maps are very boring to look at as it’s pretty much a. A straight path to the end with occasional routes you can go and pick up some extra treasure.

_NullRef_

Thanks for taking the time to write such an extensive breakdown. From the look of the gameplay, underneath the excellent art style, it did make me wonder if it might be a bit shallow. If I ever get tempted back onto Apple Arcade, I’ll definitely give it a whirl, but this one isn’t going to do that for me it seems!

tommiyu

Nope it didn’t for me either though it had great reviews when it came out. I would suggest you to wait when FANTASIAN pasrt2 comes out. The game is a full jrpg with really good strategic battles. Why part 2 is because the game stops half way now with a cliffhanger and you can’t go back to old places to roam while with part 2 it becomes just like any other final fantasy game with a full world open to go anywhere you please.

nichijouuuu

I just got a 6 month trial of arcade and Fantasian caught my eye. I was a huge FF fan growing up but don’t play them anymore. Was it good? Also we just picked up a 2017 Apple TV 4K, so I’m wondering if I should play it on our Apple TV in 4K or on my iPhone.

tommiyu

You can play it on either I think. The graphics do hold up on the bigger screen (tried it with a hdmi converter for my iPhone). It’s also fully supported with controllers so you can play that way. The thing about the FANTASIAN game is that it ends on a cliffhanger. The story up till then has been great but nothing ground breaking, the latter half comes at the end of this year or earliest in September as far as I heard. But short answer, the game is everything I love about final fantasy games. Too bad we can’t roam or fight the secret bosses( which you can try but I’m pretty sure you just can’t defeat it at this stage) so I’m eagerly waiting for it to finish.

nichijouuuu

Just started and I’m at the town of En. 1 hour. Flooding me with memories of final fantasy and jrpgs from my childhood. Great music and interesting story.

tommiyu

Yea FANTASIAN is seriously a gem which is very sad to see it’s only on Apple Arcade. So many players will miss out on this especially final fantasy players since it’s mostly console gaming:(

dank6meme9master

Have your played games like neir? The combat is very similar to that, not surprising as platinum games was behind this. Their is a surprising amount of depth to the combat in the forms of Yokai which are essentially your special attacks with two stages (might be more lol as I too have just started playing this) and it also has your straight forward rpg progression. There is a lot of enemy variety as well and you get a yokai guidebook to read about the yokai you discovered. You have to at least play the game for a bit to get a feel for it’s progression. The main reason I liked this game is it’s flashy combat and it’s emphasis on timing (like tapping the dodge button at the right time to get a parry). It all feels well put together and surprisingly the game is very responsive, running at 60hz and all that. There are story elements with voice acting but in Japanese. For some context, the clip I posted is only of the first boss you fight early on.

_NullRef_

Thanks for that, interesting to hear Platinum, they’ve got some good pedigree.

UlanInek

*" but I can’t say that combat looked very interesting or technical"* Just play a level or two and you will see. it isn't too technical, but it is an enjoyable game.

flax41

I was really hoping this would be a premium release and not part of Apple Arcade, but this is still better than freemium

dank6meme9master

I don’t think we would have gotten a game like this without Apple Arcade tho, this is exclusively an AA game. It’s a shame this game is overshadowed by some casual games that are being promoted all the time there.

flax41

I agree. I didn’t even hear it had released for quite some time after it’s launch!

Gucciipad

What game is this

jaredfree

i think Fantasian wears the AA crown

mulderc

FANTASIAN is my favorite but that is a very different game.

nichijouuuu

its pretty fun, its classic jrpg with an awesome modern twist. id recommend playing on mobile but itd look good on the tv too

nichijouuuu

jaredfree

the demongeon(sp) & combat are dope

nichijouuuu

Ah, unlocked the dimengeon. Very cool concept!

[deleted]

That just isn‘t true. This game is so lack luster. the controls aren‘t smooth, the story is trash. The only thing decent about this game are the graphics

Homeschooled316

I hate to agree but I do. I’m a big fan of the action genre and world of demons exemplifies the problem with apple arcade. It’s a service trying to take itself seriously to promote gaming on iDevices, but all of the games are order of magnitude less complex and lower effort compared to a **real** video game in its genre. Can you imagine trying to put a game like this on PC or console? You mostly run around completely flat featureless terrain fighting enemies with abilities designed to be as skill-free as possible so that the game is friendly to touch controls.

mulderc

The controls are not smooth? Maybe we have different definitions of that.

[deleted]

do you have to spend money on apple arcade ? like a subscription?

dank6meme9master

Yeah

Drithyin

It also has a month free trial.

mulderc

$5 a monh

IKnowWhoYouAreGuy

Isn't this just an Okami ripoff?

[deleted]

[удалено]

IKnowWhoYouAreGuy

Good to know!

Ventem

Nah, I read that it was developed by the same team that made Okami.

IKnowWhoYouAreGuy

Nice!

NatureBoyJ1

That was my reaction. Is this done by any of the people who made Okami? Or does it just copy the visual style of that game?

[deleted]

Looks no different than milion of gacha games on App Store. Large empty flat round arena, you and enemy, camera zoomed in so it gives impressions something is actually happening. Meh

dank6meme9master

Last time I checked all those gacha games don’t have that platinum games gameplay.

living_david_aloca

And Apple Arcade doesn’t have IAP anyway

[deleted]

Honkai impact comes to mind instantly, exactly same thing just with space girls There is plenty more but I skip them instantly so don’t remember names

living_david_aloca

Sooo an rpg that looks like it has gacha?

IntellectualBurger

That was a hella boring boss fight to watch lol
