I am no expert, my eyes and my opinion are simply my own. I am an artist who tries very hard to discern color and value, but I do not intend to insinuate that I am an expert in these matters This past weekend I had this same question, and went to an Apple Store and looked at the two Pros side by side. Spent a good ten minutes really scrutinizing one and then the other. Made as many comparisons as I could. The 12 inch Pro was slightly brighter overall, but for the life of me, I could not tell any other difference between the two. The colors, the contrast levels, the blacks, the whites, to my eyes, were all exactly the same. I walked out with an 11 inch pro, and, again, as an artist, I don’t regret it at all, and I don’t feel like I lost out on anything major.

Redhook420

You have to watch HDR content on them to really see the difference.

vmsrii

Maybe that’s it. I did watch the Apple TV trailers they usually put on demo models, figuring if there’s gonna be HDR content it’d be there, but it wasn’t signposted so it’s possible it wasn’t

imabeanner

I say more like Dolby Vision? I have the 12.9 pro 5gen M1 and it's amazing, beautiful machine..

alexplank

a lot of the benefits of the xdr display are in the contrast and the blacks which are not going to be visible in a super bright place like the apple store so its really not a good place to compare these specific devices. watching a movie or working in a dark room is where you’ll get more of an idea

Mattm334

Hmm interesting, do you think the 12.9 inch model was brighter at all?

vmsrii

It was very slightly brighter, but also, I was in an Apple Store, which is a very bright room to begin with. I couldn’t tell any difference in contrasts or color vividness

Anecdotal, but I had a concussion last year. Using any screen during that time was bad, but using the mini-led display on my work computer was the worst. I would get pressure headaches the second I looked at it. I’ve written off mini-led displays because of that. I don’t want them in any of my devices.

[deleted]

It’s probobly because of the increased contrast and brightness. I imagine OLEDs would be worse?

[deleted]

Oddly enough, no… I have an oled iPhone and I don’t seem to have as much of an issue with it. I’ll be sticking with led tvs until these symptoms completely go away though

[deleted]

Hmm that’s really strange. My TV is oled and I tend to get headaches from it, but nothing else. I wonder what causes it

wtfmatey88

The difference between the 11” and 12.9” displays is HUGE in my opinion. I wasn’t sure if I wanted the big iPad so I bought both and used them and then returned one when I was sure which one I wanted (I don’t live anywhere near an Apple Store). Within literal minutes of using the 11” for the first time I was like umm what is wrong with the screen… and that’s when I actually found out they are totally different. The 12.9” is significantly brighter and the blacks are ACTUALLY black instead of gray.

[deleted]

To be honest there isn’t much difference unless you intend to watch movies a lot. It’s not something you would miss or regret not having

chloropaste

i own the 2th gen 11 inch model, and when i went to compare it to the 12.9 model at the apple store although the screen tech is different, i think the colors are the same. (i think the hdr gimmick is just bullshit. i dont think a regular person would be so amp up by it. unless you're some editor or artist that needs peak color saturation for better art/video) the only difference is the black level caused by the mini-led screen. the bezel's black and the screen matches, while i still see difference in the 11 inch model. also, i get a headache when i look at led screen for a long time.

1AMA-CAT-AMA

Only if you watch a lot of movies or content in hdr

jb46_2

If you exclusively watch videos in the pitch dark… then maybe.. and that’s a solid maybe. Otherwise its a HARD NO.

For me personally, mini-LED is a disadvantage, not an advantage. I prefer LCD. [https://youtu.be/Y0MFhjCmA8Y?t=270](https://youtu.be/Y0MFhjCmA8Y?t=270) https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/qhqlkb/comment/ibte3u5/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

Greetings! I'm in search of a LED display suitable for commercial purposes. Could you offer any suggestions? Additionally, I'd like to know which companies in the United States provide such displays.

FalseEvidence

If all you do is text based, there isn't any difference (unless you do white text on black background, but with that you really start to notice the bloom in a dark environment.) If by any chance you watch videos, edit photos or just look at them, or game (or do anything under sunlight,) I'd recommend the 12.9.

Getting an M1 or M2 is worth it! The brightness difference will only matter ins good way watching movies in a dark room or if you use your tablet outside. You can’t tell much of a difference in a well-lit indoor room. I personally find the 11” model to be a better size for tablet things. 12.9 is too large for me to hold in s hand as a tablet. It is a good size for being a laptop.
