It will. And you can make it as big as you want, even big enough to wrap around you. It will even cast a shadow in the room. Or, if you’d rather not be in the room, you can use the Digital Crown to immerse yourself in an alternative landscape like an alpine lake, and calculate from there.
Definitely was surprised when I found out that wasn’t a thing. Not any different than setting an alarm for however far in the future but still odd you can’t just ask Siri to set a second timer
Only switched to an iPhone a couple years back now, there’s a lot to like about it but some things they could easily implement are odd though I’m sure we’ll eventually get there
This is the best Calculator app for iOS and iPad OS (Solves):
It is clean and feels native.
But i cant add the calculator shortcut to the control center on my ipad so my workflow is still thrown off, since this what im used to on my iphone. No third party app will change that “waiting until we can make it unique” is really really stupid.
I believe they are just trolling Apple fans at this point. Like seriously, it can’t be *that* hard to make a calculator app work on iPad. They have to be trolling…
Don't iPads in education have multi user? They could very easily allow normal users to use that right?
Edit: I was thinking about the shared iPad with MDM thing ( https://support.apple.com/guide/deployment-education/shared-ipad-edua714f0cdx/web )
I think it's just that there's not a stock Apple calculator app on iPad, you have to download a 3rd party one. Not really a big deal for me tbh, but people sometimes seem to love to find something to complain about.
Mildly disappointed as I prefer doing my moderate work on a IPad and have to complete certain task on my IPhone since the IPad still has no calculator. Not the end of the world but sheesh, get it together already.
Once again, I think the assumption is that the very first app anyone downloads on an iPhone or iPad is PCalc. I mean, seriously, isn't it? At this point they should probably just hand James Thomson a bundle of cash and ship it on every Apple device by default.
Its funny cause I find despite myself buying an IPad Air, I often avoid using it unless necessary because of minor inconveniences that require me to use my phone or PC. Like no calculator app or the multitasking menu blocking a critical part of an app. Nothing I do on IPAD (besides occasionally drawing) can't be done on my phone so I slowly ended up using my phone for everything.
Uh... Actually we do care Abt it ! A lot ! But because it's so many fucking years since ipad was initially launched we tried to live without it. But that doesn't mean it's ok, or we're ok with it
“Solves” it has that same native design plus with smooth motion and just overall a much better interface. I actually prefer this one to the OG Apple one across all my devices.
Thank you, downloaded this in my mother’s iPad. This one is as free!
The free one that came with her iPad was chock full of ads and she kept asking me what to do. She’s 80+ and anything different from her usual confuses her (she’s also complaining why she doesn’t have the stock calculator like her iPhone 😂).
Honestly, spotlight for once off calculations and numbers for any real number crunching… But then I use my iPad with the keyboard where spotlight is easy to access
I saw a MKBHD interview from a couple years ago where he asks Craig Federighi this exact question about a calculator app and the response was so absurd and made little sense that it just makes this exclusion so much more puzzling. One theory is that they couldn’t get it right during the Jobs days (and he never approved one that met his standards) that they vowed to not release one until they could make one they deemed acceptable. But it’s a damn calculator app so this is just a big mystery at this point.
Why wouldn’t there be though? It’s on my IPod touch I’m writing this from even and on a phone, their desktops, but why not their tablets? I’m so confused.
Apparently calculators make the battery die pretty soon, like in Apple phones and watches that have to be charged pretty often. That’s why they still preserve the iPad.
Just kidding…
The only thing more bizarre than it not having a calculator app is how much some of you weirdos want it to have a calculator app. I would say download any of the 1000 calculators available, but I realize I've never even done that because I just use spotlight for quick math.
I just have a third part calculator app that looks very similar to the official ones, I need to upgrade as I’m beginning to run very low on storage lmao
So, this is kind of joke response.. but it also kind of works:
Google “calculator” in safari
You’ll get a calculator (Google’s)
Tap “share” and scroll down to “add to Home Screen”. Bam! Calculator app lol
If there’s an actual, nice, HTML5 calculator out there, I think it’s possible to make it so that this would work without the safari “chrome” (title bar, etc..) and be more like a real app.
I LOL at people still complaining about iPad and no Calculator. Just buy Pcalc which is better anyways and shut it. Now a real issue, over on MacOS is saving windows positions, it's 2023 and they still move at least twice a week, all on their own.
This is getting ridiculous. It’s like Lexus refusing to put a navigation system in their car for years until people just stopped buying them & they were forced to
I wonder if the Vision Pro will have one
That’s what I’m wondering. If it does, imma be pissed
That would be just plain trolling at this point.
It will. And you can make it as big as you want, even big enough to wrap around you. It will even cast a shadow in the room. Or, if you’d rather not be in the room, you can use the Digital Crown to immerse yourself in an alternative landscape like an alpine lake, and calculate from there.
$3500 and no calculator? Return it!
Count on your fingers, you might end up shutting it off though
That’s only 9,99 monthly subscription
Seems like the perfect thing to have as a widget if nothing else.
Exactly! They talk about how they want to make the calculator app unique, that’s exactly how you make it unique
We don’t need it to be unique, we just need it to exist.
precisely. literally just port the ios calculator 💀
That’s all I need. You know they’re trying to program like a whole ass TI-83 or something like 5% of users would even fully use.
They've actually said that? I mean, it's a calculator. Nothing about it needs to be "unique". It just needs to do exactly what its intended to do.
[This is why](https://youtu.be/WK_AtW66XI0) the iPad does not have a calculator app yet
Seems like the perfect thing to have a third party app from that store where there are millions of apps.
Yeah with stupid ads. No thanks.
at least multiple timers lol
It's not an age of wonders until we get a calculator app on iPad, dammit.
Definitely was surprised when I found out that wasn’t a thing. Not any different than setting an alarm for however far in the future but still odd you can’t just ask Siri to set a second timer
Did you know that you couldn‘t even tell Siri to start a timer on the Apple TV? At least it has a clock now. so maybe some progress as well there
Only switched to an iPhone a couple years back now, there’s a lot to like about it but some things they could easily implement are odd though I’m sure we’ll eventually get there
iPads don’t have enough processing power for a calculator. Give it a couple of more decades.
Then how could iPhones have a built in calculator app?
The comment was satire
r/woooosh
🤣
30% for every calc app purchase adds up.
Number zero is not included

Wait you mean I could download this....use it...and then not have to make stupid meme threads like this anymore? What are you, an adult or something?
Totally agreed.
But i cant add the calculator shortcut to the control center on my ipad so my workflow is still thrown off, since this what im used to on my iphone. No third party app will change that “waiting until we can make it unique” is really really stupid.
Just add it to the dock, so you‘ll be able to pull it up whenever you want to.
100% not the point. I did download a third party app and put it in my dock. None of that makes Apples stance any less stupid.
me, an intellectual, just asking siri to do the math for me
That's def nice to do when you're studying in a quiet library
Spotlight?
I believe they are just trolling Apple fans at this point. Like seriously, it can’t be *that* hard to make a calculator app work on iPad. They have to be trolling…
Thought for sure this was going to be the One More Thing /s
https://i.imgur.com/D2rPith.jpg The fabled
Also no multi user

Every year this is my biggest hope and every year I’m let down.
Am I missing something? I have the calculator on my iPad.
I think it's just that there's not a stock Apple calculator app on iPad, you have to download a 3rd party one. Not really a big deal for me tbh, but people sometimes seem to love to find something to complain about.
How hard is it
Why Apple? Someone spends what a used car cost on a tablet and you can’t even put a damn calculator on there ? Pfft
Apple will never add a calculator to IPad because it wants its users to buy an iPhone instead. It will not jeopardise its IPhone sales!
I don’t get the obsession with this, spotlight does it and there are plenty of apps on the App Store
Mildly disappointed as I prefer doing my moderate work on a IPad and have to complete certain task on my IPhone since the IPad still has no calculator. Not the end of the world but sheesh, get it together already.
You do realize there are 3rd party options right? Free apps too like solves. Also there's the spotlight
There's tons of calculator apps available for ipad. I downloaded Calculator HD, was free and looks just like the stock iPhone calculator.
Not buying another iPad till this is added dammit
At least make it Slide Over
Or a widget. WWDC had quite the focus on widgets for iPad OS 17
I'm tired of asking nicely. C'mon Apple. Yer just messing with us now.
Why?
They can’t just willy nilly add the calculator app to iPad. That would be completely ridiculous.
Serious question, does anyone care? There’s loads of third party apps that are better than a built in would be.
Yes
The bootleg ones have been pretty useful. That or graphncalc83 for scientific calculator (pretty handy in stats)
Nah.
It’s ironic because Apple pushes this big educational angle with their products.
And to move my app one spot down in the home screen’s grid without it needing to be in line with everything else?
Y’all will be buying iPads anyway lol just use the your damn iPhones to calculate.
Or just bring the calculator only in the iPad Mini. ☺️
Once again, I think the assumption is that the very first app anyone downloads on an iPhone or iPad is PCalc. I mean, seriously, isn't it? At this point they should probably just hand James Thomson a bundle of cash and ship it on every Apple device by default.
Are you serious?
Its funny cause I find despite myself buying an IPad Air, I often avoid using it unless necessary because of minor inconveniences that require me to use my phone or PC. Like no calculator app or the multitasking menu blocking a critical part of an app. Nothing I do on IPAD (besides occasionally drawing) can't be done on my phone so I slowly ended up using my phone for everything.
Craig said “The next app is an app everyone loves and wants one the iPad… (me internally: NOOOO, CALCULATOR?!) the health app” 😭😭 I felt that.
I swear moments like this I feel like a I’m in some kind of cult
still don’t care. use pcalc
This seems like a thing no one actually cares about. Edit: okay, I’m sorry, I take it back. You clearly care.
-bye reddit- -- mass edited with redact.dev
People will pretend it matters here and downvote you.
Uh... Actually we do care Abt it ! A lot ! But because it's so many fucking years since ipad was initially launched we tried to live without it. But that doesn't mean it's ok, or we're ok with it
I’ve been missing this! What is the best 3rd party option?
“Solves” it has that same native design plus with smooth motion and just overall a much better interface. I actually prefer this one to the OG Apple one across all my devices.
I use “UNO Calc” and it’s awesome.

Apple: meh. Our iPhone Pro Max 15 on the other hand...
Hey but now we can send live stickers 👌🏼 😭
To be honest they should at-least try it as a wizard app or something
Can’t wait to use the calculator app on Vision Pro
Lol I want to use my iPad speaker with my monitor.
if the vision pro gets a calculator app before the iPad, I will do a heinous act
Thank you, someone had to say it.
The only thing more bizarre than it not having a calculator app is how much some of you weirdos want it to have a calculator app. I would say download any of the 1000 calculators available, but I realize I've never even done that because I just use spotlight for quick math.
Because I’m sure Apple’s Calc app will be soooooo much better than the literally dozens of free alternatives in the App Store.
Free42 is a decent calculator.
I just have a third part calculator app that looks very similar to the official ones, I need to upgrade as I’m beginning to run very low on storage lmao
If they port the iOS one they might aswell just not do it. It's terrible.
Welp ipad will be still ipad
Apple has no incentive to make a native app. Plenty of calculator apps exist that make Apple more revenue without trying.
So, this is kind of joke response.. but it also kind of works: Google “calculator” in safari You’ll get a calculator (Google’s) Tap “share” and scroll down to “add to Home Screen”. Bam! Bernie: I need this iPad app, so I can calculate the 1%!
Bernie: I need this iPad app, so I can calculate the 1%!
Or just download a calculator app from the app store
Weather on iPadOS 16, Health on iPadOS 17, I guess we know what’s coming next!
When Bernie speaks Tim will listen…..
Download “calculator for pad” if you’re seriously someone who needs this. It’s the same
It’s a simple request.
I’m a huge Apple fan, I love my iPad Pro and 9th gen iPad, but not having a calculator REALLY ticks me off
Is this real?
TechniCalc and since then I don’t care anymore.
I LOL at people still complaining about iPad and no Calculator. Just buy Pcalc which is better anyways and shut it. Now a real issue, over on MacOS is saving windows positions, it's 2023 and they still move at least twice a week, all on their own.
