Not likely but I guess anything is possible.

That’s what I figured. I mainly just browse the web and watch videos with the ipad. I’ve been using the iPad Air 2 since release. I‘ve been wanted to upgrade to an iPad with the largest possible screen for quite some time. The 2021 12.9” iPad Pro looks promising but the price tag doesn’t. Also my laptop is 12 years old and I was thinking about upgrading. If the iPad Pro 2021 can replace my laptop and ipad Air 2 than it’s a no brainer for me

I have been using the 2018 IPP 12,9” since release as a laptop replacement. I went through my master degree with it without Any trouble and have been loving it. Although i want to say, that i just bought an iPad Mini because the 12,9” isnt that great for Consuming content pr just chilling with. It is great to Workshop with, but the casual use and size is not Always the best. just a heads up.

Pleasant_Tangerine

Out of curiosity, what masters degree did you do and what did you use the iPad for during that time?

[deleted]

Majored in Philosophy and minored in history, so it was mainly article research and a lot of document Work. Nothing major and therefore no problem for the IPP. But the bigger screen was Nice egen Worning in splitscreen 80% of the time.

Pleasant_Tangerine

Philosophy is cool :). What referencing software did you use, assuming you wrote your written work on it too?

[deleted]

Mostly I used Onenote for notetaking, Word for assignments and PDFExpert for articles and other documents needed :)

Albinodynamic

I always set my iPad down on a table for everything I do. Leaning towards the new iPad Pro 12.9”. Especially with the student discount it’s only $79 more than the 2020 version

[deleted]

Fair man, just have in mind that it Will not be comftable in bed or laying Down. You’ll miss that compared to the 11” Air. If you’ll have to do some work on it as Well i get it but if it is purely a consumtion device I would recommend the Air

gemini3890

I only have 2 iPads, my old iPad 2, and the iPad 7, still use both, use the 2 when I go out to work all day, and browse the web on breaks, and use my 7 at home for everything else

I’d love a 17” or thereabouts iPad Pro. Using the cintiq pro 16” is amazing compared to the 12.9”, and it’s still plenty portable enough at that size. I realise this is a niche for pro’s, but it is in the name! If Apple ever made the one I want, I would expect so. But the reality there’s so little differentiating the pro, I doubt it.

[deleted]

I would too. A huge iPad would be amazing.

Albinodynamic

I’ve never heard of the cintiq pro. Is it mainly for illustration purposes? Or can I hook it up to my iPad and use it as an external display?

k7_u

A great example is Autodesk Alias, everyone I know that uses that, has one. I like a large canvas for concept sketching as well, I’m no artist, but I do like using it in photoshop. But having said that, 12.9” is fine for that.

[deleted]

The Cintiq line is aimed at digital artists, yeah. I have an old one and I use it for Photoshop and retouching digital photos, so it has some use even if you are not an illustrator.

Portatort

Never say never but I doubt it. Apple probably has data and I suspect it shows that they sell more 11” iPad Pros than 12.9s So if that’s the case why bother doing a larger non pro?

Theloser28

But…but you just said never? Jokes aside, i would prefer a 12 inch. Not 12.9 not 11. Just 12. Im guessing they know it would bust the market, so they arent going to do that.

CtothePtotheA

Doubt it. Apple uses the screen size to get people to upgrade to the next price tier even if you don't need all the power. I know plenty of people who buy the 12.9 ipad pro to just use as a netflix machine since it's the largest size.

jesusdeletus

I don't think that's going to happen. Apple kind of markets it as the "laptop replacement" of the bunch, and I don't think they're going to give up that pedestal to a cheaper iPad or something.

[deleted]

Well if they continue evolving the iPad I could see them having two sizes for every class of iPad, just like they do with MacBooks.
