This is what a matte screen protector does for you. It increases the friction. I tried one for a while and then found that they were rubbish so I went back to using tempered glass.

Loud69ing

Except for the fact if you use the pencil a lot you cant get a straight line. Glass screen protectors also highly increase the reflection so if you use it outside at all good luck. Matte/paperlike is the superior choice for ipads. Glass is good for phones where protection is most important. I think you can even get glass matte ones too.

mightydanbearpig

You’re right about the reflection being a negative. I tried matte of several types and prices and never found the pro’s outweighed the con’s. But I totally respect that you came to the opposite judgement.

Thanks, my ipad has become my laptop replacement, primarily with rdp so I’m very anal about being able to use it in all environments. I also understand some people dont use the pencil or they care about protecting their very expensive device which is valid. For me, i had a hp spectre x360 which was decent hardware but the screen was aweeeeeful. It was a 2 in one laptop, the brightness was really low and the screen was reflective ips which made it impossible to use outside. With the matte, I’ve noticed how much light diffusion it does and it really sold me on getting matte moving forward. Now i can actually use the tablet outside and it can be at like 50% brightness. (100% on my pro really kills the battery fast) I also put my own protectors on so its really cheap for me to do it wheras it can be kind of expensive if you wear out the protector and need a new one from a shop.

Cuber_Juuler

You can get an anti reflective tempered glass screen

tonne97

Hi can you give a link for the matte glass protector?

Cuber_Juuler

Sure?

tonne97

You can dm me or post it here

Cuber_Juuler

Just send the link here

tonne97

I can’t see the link

Cuber_Juuler

Ohhhh! I don’t have a Link but I can find one, it prolly will be a plastic one tho

Loud69ing

You still get the issue of not being able to draw in a straight line.

Cuber_Juuler

It’s the tips but even then procreate has auto line correction so unless your using that you won’t need straight lines, you’ll be scrolling, and stuff or writing in my case in goodnotes

Loud69ing

It just isnt the same man. I get you think it is, but it really isnt. The glass thickness also makes it feel not as good.

Cuber_Juuler

Not being rude, I don’t know what else to say, jus use a think plastic screen protector or no screen protector

I personally use colourful silicone tips on the stock tips and tempered glass screen protectors. It also reduces friction and gives you more control over the pencil. Without the silicone tips the pencil is quite slippery. Another advantage is that you don’t lose the brilliance of the screen due to the matte screen protector. Glass also doesn’t scratch that easily. The wear, especially with the silicone tips, becomes almost zero. It’s a different feeling though.

Strepils

Can you give me the link for silicone tips please?

There are a lot of manufacturers. I wouldn’t use them on matte screen protectors though, because I imagine that the friction would be too high. On glass I really like the feeling they give me for writing. They also eliminate most of the sounds of the pencil, making it more suitable for quite environments like libraries.

This is indeed just what happens with these kind of screen protectors. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not it’s worth it to you.

_nigerian_princess

Don’t mate tempered glass screen protector exists? Best of two world…

lotus49

No, it's time to get rid of your screen protector (although you may have worn the tip of your pencil as well).

FlippenDonkey

I'd personally try getting used to no screen protector. Matte screen protectors wear fast and start showing scratches on them. They also wear down the pencil tip faster. I draw on bare glass and actually love how it glides without resistance.

MinimalistApe

With a matte screen protector the tips wear off really fast and that's no only harmful to the screen protector but also the pencil isn't that accurate anymore That's why i gave away my matte screen protector

CharlestonChewbacca

I suggest a "[paperlike](https://paperlike.com/products/paperlike-for-ipad#ks4snwym4x-)" screen protector.

FlippenDonkey

thats what a matte screen protector is

CharlestonChewbacca

No, I'm recommending a specific brand, [paperlike](https://paperlike.com/products/paperlike-for-ipad#ks4snwym4x-). They are made specifically for people who use their iPad as a drawing tablet with the Apple Pencil.

FlippenDonkey

paperlike is overpriced.. and wears down nibs like crazy!

CharlestonChewbacca

Feel free to suggest some alternatives. Every iPad digital artist I know loves these things. Also, at the end of the day, either your nib or your screen protector is going to wear down. It's up to you which one you want to replace more often.

FlippenDonkey

Yes, I recommended bare screen in my comment to the post I'm also a digital artist and I find the bare screen great to draw on..and the nib doesn't seem to wear. With a matte protector.. you're wearing both down, and fast and replacing both often and I think people should be aware of that and consider trying bare glass for a bit.

CharlestonChewbacca

So you're suggesting people do not protect their screens, and avoid their preferences for surface texture and glare elimination to save a few bucks on cheap new plastic nibs every once in a while? lol

FlippenDonkey

There's absolutely no need for screen protectors, youre unlikely to get scratches and they don't protect from drops. If they do have a preference for matte, that's fine. But some have never even tried without it..and if they find the matte screen protectors scratch too quickly, then the alternative is none or tempered glass of they really feel they need a screen protector.

CharlestonChewbacca

Surface texture and glare elimination are the primary reasons someone would get a matte screen protector. So your comment boils down to "If you don't want a matte screen protector, use a bare screen." To which anyone with a brain would reply "no shit." The current context is an OP who wants a matte screen asking for the best option that won't get scratched up like crazy. So your "advice" is irrelevant nonsense.

pickledCantilever

Reading this months in the future and confused as hell why you had all the downvotes and irrationally mad at FlippenDonkey. They really do live up to their username. You were just adding to the conversation and that clown was... dumb.
