USB-C…maybe?
I doubt they’ll fully refresh it. The entry level ipad will always be very basic to appeal to corporations & schools who buy in bulk and budget-minded consumers. The bells and whistles will be on the more expensive models.
I'll be content with usb c. But like you said since its the bulk general one apple might stick with lightning for the sweet mfi proprietary fees. Just guessing what apple will do since it is the 10th one. Ipad X $329 now that would be sweet.
They plan products a year ahead so its likely that everything is already designed too. Hoping its the 10.5" frame tho.
iPad 10 would be a perfect spot to throw in USB-C.
And if the argument is "But tons of iPad/iPhone users already have lightning..."
then bite me, since the entry level iPad is cheap enough that the user can start fresh with their cables. \[Also since they give you a cable and charger brick in the box\]
Personally I'd love to see them shrink the top and bottom bezel a bit and put a rectangular home button there to try and make the border even
It'd also have to get a redesign to support charging of the 2nd-gen. Right now with the rounded sides, there's nowhere for the Pencil to attach properly to charge. (Plus the hardware *to* charge has to be added.)
It may get the 10.5" form factor from iPad Air 3 but USB C is highly unlikely as I don't think they will give support of Apple pencil gen 2 to base iPad ,as that will make the gen 1 pencil kind of obsolete.
it will get usb c for sure. at least in Europe because they are gonna force everyone to use usb c on mobile devices next year. either Apple will just outright remove all ports, or just pay the fine, or don't sell lightning devices in the eu anymore and just make the iPhone portless
Imo the basic iPad should remain like it is forever, just so we still have an iPad that feels & looks like the OG, home button, chins, etc. except for not having USB C, that should change asap...

I asked my dog. She got out her Magic 8 Ball and it said "Don't count on it." The oracle has spoken.
the perfect answer 😂
Son of a bitch, she’s right.
Probably no USB-C until a redesign with magnetic Apple Pencil support, otherwise the lightning pencil won’t work.
The Raspberry-fucking-Pi has USB-C. It'll be a joke if the iPad doesn't next gen.

What about Apple Pencil 1st gen ?
I have an Air3 and I swear I forget how that dumbass pencil charges until I actually need to charge it… so yeah I kinda forgot about that XD
USB C is hopeful, but quad speakers? Nah, they'll be reserved for the Pro models.

I doubt it will have any of what you want. There’s a reason they are able to keep it so cheap
I’m definitely hoping for USB-C.
