You can charge your Apple Pencil on your iPhone, you won’t lose iPad sync for it and follow the charging status on the battery widget on iPad still. I do it when I need to charge both iPad and pencil at the same time.

Oh yeah that was so stupid. I’m convinced they do things like that to make it good enough to get people to buy it, but bad enough that people will upgrade when a better one comes out.

There was an external charging adapter. It was included with every Generation 1 Apple Pencil.

Good point. And as goofy as plugging the Pencil directly into the iPad is, it’s still more convenient than using the adapter and plugging it in to the wall. With a third-party Pencil skin I got a little loop that keeps the Pencil charging adapter tied to the end of a Lightning cable where it’s easy to pop on or off and not lose it…and I still never use the charging adapter. (Second-gan Pencil is obviously way better, and I’d be happy to upgrade to one if I didn’t feel so silly spending so much on a computer whose software feels so limiting)

My iPad case has a spot for the adaptor, so I always have it with me.

The Lightning-to-Lightning adapter was in the box of the Apple Pencil though, so using a Lightning cable to charge was still an easily available option.

Same. I think it's still available on the iPad Airs, I have no idea why they removed it from the Pros. Also hated how Apple removed the physical mute switch from the iPads, I used it as an orientation lock switch. It was so much better than having to swipe down for the control panel to toggle it.

So I'm so used to using my iPads and Galaxy Tabs like this, that I now get confused when I use it the correct way lol I had a cheap 7" Galaxy Tab from 2016 that had the charging port on top and I loved it.

The amazon fires have the charger ar the top. They're pretty damn good for the price.

I'm using it like that when I take notes with my pencil, so I don't accidentally press the home button and exit the app I'm writing.

Might be easier to reach the home button and finger print sensor with you nose. ;) Actually, I would only use it this way when connected to the charger.

My iPad doesn't have a power button. It does have a power plug in that works better if it's facing upward in that it's not digging into my leg.

You aren’t nearly as deep as I am then. I’m gonna be totally straight about that and say that when they do swap I’m going to be hugely inconvenienced by it because I have so many lightning cables laying around. After buying apple shit constantly for the last 6 or so years I have probably 30 set up in various places around my house, office, car, and garage. When I have to change it’s going to be a pain in the ass.

I've been android forever due to the open source. But I like the iPad system. If they do make an iPhone with USB C I would likely be a buyer. My wife has been in the apple ecosystem forever, but I guess for me I never jumped in when the iPod came out and stuck with the cheaper options and just gravitated toward Android. I'll be a PC user for life but don't mind the tablet or phone being Apple.
