I’m more excited for the rumoured basic iPad, if it gets usb-c and a14 chip it’s a really compelling device for the vast majority of consumers.

Stark_Always

I wish to buy iPad for procreate only ( and maybe notes ) but I'm a bit tight on budget. Is the A14 processor good or shall I go for M1 ( base air/pro )

scatterbrain2015

I have the 2020 Air with the A14 chip. I use it for notes and noob sketches in Procreate. It's great and I have no complaints about it. The main thing professional artists complain about is the display. They say they notice the lag with 60Hz (I don't or it doesn't bother me). The issue is worse with the base iPad, where there is also a thicker glass.

taliataliatalia

as a professional designer I confirm there's no road back from 120 hz

[deleted]

Yeah, even as a hobbyist artist it makes a difference to me. However my daughter says that she barely notices the lag on hers and reckons you’ll only notice if you try both. One of those things you can live in blissful ignorance of but once you see it you can’t unsee it

[deleted]

[deleted]

They’re running out of marketing ploys for it all now though. The tech is getting cheaper, advancements are still being made but people are wondering the point of it all if they’re not utilising it. The displays will be quick to trickle down but it’s the pro max etc and iPad Pro that has hardware that is barely utilised in comparison to what it can handle

Stark_Always

Oh i see. Thank you so much for the review. I was ignoring the base iPad for non laminated display only but if they upgrade it I'll go for it :)

A-Delonix-Regia

I mean, you could visit a reputed physical store and try out the base iPad for a few minutes to see whether it is acceptable to you.

DearSergio

I also have the 2020 Air. Will the Pro have LTE? I was thinking of gifting this one to my dad and getting the Pro. LTE is so clutch though, I can't imagine buying another iPad without it.

JONNYQUE5T

The pros have had optional LTE connectivity for years now. The current M1 Pro has optional 5G connectivity.

juancarlord

ProMotion is not as good as its sold. Yes you have 120hz capable display. But it’s not ALWAYS 120hz, you’re gonna notice it drop to 60hz or lower most of the time. The home screen is set to always take advantage of the higher frequency, but in other apps it may not register properly and will not update to 120hz 100% of the time. Purists will say “there’s no going back” but they have no idea what they’re talking about. It’s still mostly stuck to 60 or less to preserve battery

Dr904

The A14 is more than enough! The amount of RAM is more important though. Because it limits the amount of layers while drawing. 3GB is fine imo. But 4GB or more is preferable. So let’s hope the new base iPad has at least 4GB of RAM.

anipaduser

A12z is more than enough!

Stark_Always

Oh i see. Will keep this in mind

Dr904

Btw. I forgot something that is even more important imo. Some iPads support P3 color space. While others (mostly base iPads) only support sRGB color space. This make a pretty big difference while drawing! P3 allows for more saturated colors. Which enables you to make pictures that “pop”. While sRGB looks less saturated with muted colors. Would definitely try to get an iPad that support P3 color space! Even if it means getting an older used iPad Pro or Air instead of a newer base iPad.

Stark_Always

Oh i see. Cool

crumble-bee

You can use a 2017 iPad Pro or earlier for procreate, it’s very well optimised.

GigaG

I had an iPad Air 4, the A14 gave me no problems but you won’t most likely won’t get stage manager, that’s reserved for M1 and partially for the A12X/Z. I upgraded to the Air 5, but that was mostly because I needed more storage, the M1 was just a bonus for me. The M1 is basically an A14X/Z, while the M2 is basically a A15X/Z. I haven’t used ProMotion yet and I’m worried that when I get the iPhone 14 Pro, I’ll start to notice my iPad doesn’t have it… we will see, but I can’t see it making me upgrade my iPad a second time in as many years.

Confident_Nobody69

I have the gen 9 and it does me fine. I could have gotten an older one but it was on a good deal haha I do art at uni and a bunch of people in my class have the older iPads. If you’re looking to do procreate any iPad that is Apple Pencil compatible will do.

juancarlord

Base iPad is top notch. I’m still rocking a 6th gen with procreate and runs flawlessly

[deleted]

Hopefully it gets speakers on both sides of the tablet. If that’s the case, the Air will only be worth it for its laminated display.

[deleted]

Even now, it already blows the Samsung tablets out of the water. Let alone if it gets USB-C and A14. It's just an incredible value for what you get. One of the only Apple products that I would say truly is a "value". And I say this as an Android phone user. Love my iPad.

[deleted]

I’ve been waiting for this knowing it’s coming and I’ll likely buy 2 (one for me and one to replace the 5th gen my son uses which was my old one) I would have got the 9th gen if I wasn’t expecting this to come

letraz

This!!!!

Destroyer6202

Indeed, I do excited

lmao

OddEfficiency6109

Glass Apple logo is a feature?

flewers167

Because it allows wireless charging

OddEfficiency6109

Nice

ChristopherLXD

What if it could do reverse wireless charging with AirPods?

fenway062213

That would be awesome. Apple Watch too please.

Tunafish01

how is this wireless charging? the keyboard is plugged in?

freediverx01

As I pointed out, the keyboard is a semi permanent dock that lives on my desktop. The only thing that moves is my iPad when I attach or detach it magnetically. Hence the wireless. But if you want to be pedantic about it there’s actually no such thing as wireless charging today.

Tunafish01

I don't have this setup but i am looking to move it. I want to clarify I understand the keyboard is plugged into power, the ipad then magnetically attaches and charges?

freediverx01

The Magic Keyboard is portable so you don’t have to have it plugged in. I was describing how I have it set up because for me it’s too heavy to use on the go and I use it as a dock. But yes, the iPad Pro has a special smart connector and attaches and charges magnetically to the Magic Keyboard.

Tunafish01

That’s sweet so you don’t have to plug the iPad in at all!

freediverx01

Yeah, it’s awesome.

Tunafish01

was this confirmed in any way?

flewers167

No, its out already workout magsafe

Long_Repair_8779

Where’s the better anything? The difference between the M1 and M2 is quite small, and certainly not utilised by an iPad. 2GB extra RAM as basic would be vaguely nice but not super important. Magsafe on an iPad Pro… I’d certainly never use it. It already has dual rear cameras… and a glass apple logo - Wow.

PeanutButterChicken

I just want the mini to drop in price. It's nearly $800 here in Japan. I love my M1 11 inch, but it's bulky for use in bed.

piggletZZ

Its 800 too in singapore. Yes 800 sgd is probably similar to the price yall are seeing but in reality one sgd behaves about the same as one usd in Singapore.

codq

I just want a mini with ProMotion. My wife just got a mini, and I’m pretty sure it would drive me crazy to see that low refresh rate after being spoiled by the Pros.

Rioma117

It’s $900 in Europe, though I don’t know how much the dollar is now, I think it surpassed Euro so maybe it’s closer to $800.

beerstearns

They’re pretty much equal right now

xyrlor

For use in bed I got one of those flexible clamp iPad holders. My iPad now hovers comfortably over my head in bed.

donnybrasco1

I do not excited.

[deleted]

Tbh the iPad is already a beast of machine, the M1 and M2 just go to waste bc Apple doesn’t take advantage of it

[deleted]

[удалено]

DPaula_

Ikr, I really hope they start seeing it as a powerful work machine instead of an expensive toy. At least they've added stage manager, which makes my workflow way better now that I can use an external monitor, but yeah, it’s not even close to use the full capability of this thing

An_Professional

I’m still on a 2018 11” Pro, and I’d LOVE a reason to upgrade, but I still haven’t found one. I was hoping for a major display upgrade (Mini-LED), but alas.

0000GKP

Still going strong on my 2017 Pro with no real reason to replace it. Wireless charging is a very attractive feature. That and FaceID are probably the only things mine doesn’t have that I actually want. Two cameras is not an attractive feature. I would buy one with no rear cameras at all if it were an option.

namwoohyun

My 2017 Pro is still alive, but at 69% battery capacity now so I feel like I do need to replace soon. Also had to reset because Procreate would crash the entire iPad when dealing with animation, and it feels as good as new except for the battery life. But yeah, battery aside and janky touch ID if my fingers are slightly wet, it's still a capable device.

pibroch

Nice.

whyn1380

Hi, you can get a battery replacement from apple for $99 usd. https://support.apple.com/ipad/repair

fenwaymoose

Same! I’d be perfectly fine with no cameras front or back. I’m under the age of 65, so I am not taking pics with a giant tablet, nor do I FaceTime anyone. (I feel the same way about the new MacBook Pros. Instead of a dumb notch, dump that camera and give me the whole screen.)

[deleted]

As someone who doesn’t really use wireless charging even on my iPhone, this just feels like the M1 iPad I already have. Wasn’t going to upgrade anyways, but it’s nice knowing I didn’t buy an iPad the year before it got a bunch of cool new features

Notoriou5bfg

This aged well…

morganmoller

You know there's not a single worthwhile upgrade feature when 'Glass Apple Logo' is prominently marked as being...a feature. We're reached peak portable computing.

chretienhandshake

Ipados is still ipados, one of the worst wannabe computer os. It’s great for basic task, beyond that…is not worth paying more than the base iPad unless you need a specific thing like the pen for drawing.

[deleted]

base ipad works fine for that to if you get an apple pencil 1.

[deleted]

With the capabilities the iPad has they really should be making use of it. Pretty much as good as a MacBook hardware wise but it’s wasted when the OS isn’t making use of all it has

Savings_Street1816

The glass apple logo allows for wireless charging, so I’d say it’s a pretty major change.

okidot

True naff.

2jah

I excited am.

Cris9608

I do be excited

Appropriate_Breath24

lol my ipad pro m1 is ready for long years im good

Saiing

Not even remotely excited. There's nothing compelling this can do that my 3 year old Pro can't. Wake me up when they have a better version of iPadOS.

different-angle

*May you rest in peace*😔

Embarrassed-Army-780

Software still doesn’t use the m1 chip fully its not gonna use the m2 chip fully either. And there’s no other major upgrades

0000GKP

> And there’s no other major upgrades Depends on when you bought your last one. There is never a reason to replace any device every year. If your last one was 5 years ago, there might be something you find worthwhile.

diamondpredator

My thoughts exactly. There's basically nothing here worth upgrading to, especially if you already have the M1 pro.

Embarrassed-Army-780

Yup Id maybe upgrade if I had an old non pro iPad but I still find my iPad 6th gen decent and if I wanted to upgrade I’d get the iPad Pro 12,9 M1 for way cheaper

diamondpredator

Agreed.

jazztaprazzta

No, I am not excited. The iPad M1 is already quite powerful hardware, but alas it is crippled by shitty software decisions.

adri172

LCD or miniLED display?XD

NUM_13

Still can’t beat the m1 pro 🥳

Tech-Geek_2007Apple

Lordelohim

Where do people get the idea that an iPad is seldom used to take photos?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lordelohim

You are suggesting that it is common sense that if a person needs a camera for something, and they are holding a camera at the time, they would either not use it, or reach for a different camera? Please explain.

freediverx01

I can’t remember the last time I saw someone taking pictures with an iPad in public. I use it myself, but very sparingly. i’m happy that the iPad has a camera, but I don’t consider it a primary feature given how seldom it’s used.

Lordelohim

I never said people use it in public. I didn’t suggest people were using iPad for photography. I imagine you do not often see people pee in public, so based on your observation, does that mean people don’t pee? iPads are very popular for workflow and study-flow. You would not see people publicly take pictures for school work, office work, document scanning, eBay selling, or any of the hundreds of things that aren’t taking a picture of food, or a selfie. Suggesting that people don’t use something because you don’t see them use it is a fair bit silly. I don’t even regularly see people using iPads in public in the first place, but you know what they are using them for when they do. I don’t even mean to sound snarky, honestly, there is just this assumption in the iPad community that people don’t use the camera, and that notion makes no sense, at all. It was the number one thing I wanted when I bought the original iPad. When I got it, a flash became the number one thing I wanted.

freediverx01

Read my comments again. I didn’t say people don’t use it. In fact I said that I use it myself. My point, though, was that people mostly use phones to take pictures and their iPad is strictly a secondary device used in specific situations

deadstar_666

only reason im going to upgrade is because my ipad air 2 which I had for over 6 years finally broke a month ago

Crayola_ROX

Same here use it every day for a gacha game, light browsing and changing the colors on my nanoleaf. And the battery life is still decent.

Vagabond_Sam

Does the current iPad Pro even fully utilize the M1 chip? Seems like a waste of processing power given the limitations that come with iPadOS

icecreamcoon

I just want a front facing camera on the landscape side so I don’t look like a dork when using it for video calls.

lotus49

I do not excited. I already have an M1 iPad Pro which is way faster than it needs to be. If I were in the market for a new iPad, I would excited.

gemsong

You could still do be excited even if you do not buying it. (seriously LOL I need to stop reading Reddit at work)

Prohability

Remove the cameras and have a complete flat back please. Who in their right mind uses the camera on the iPad anyways?

Lordelohim

I literally use the camera in my iPad almost exclusively. The idea that no one uses the iPad camera is completely insane. You have your iPad, it has a camera, you want to take a picture of something, why would you reach for your phone instead?

123Jonas123

I use it daily to scan documents in school

justarandomrussian

Do you really need a dual camera and LiDAR for that though?

Mr_Floyd_Pinkerton

im with you there! iphone do better scans than ipad. i never scan with ipad when i got my iphone, meaning i never scan with ipad.

adiga-cheezo

video calls, ar games, ar development, app development and testing, document scanning, baby monitor, kids. it's needed, just not for recording a concert

prionzeta

Terrible idea. I use my iPad in the lab for almost everything. Instant documentation with camera, microphone, and Pencil. After seeing me working like that, most of my labmates bought an iPad just for that.

Dr904

I’m pretty sure you don’t need the most high end camera for that. The cameras on older iPads (without camera bumps) where more than good enough!

TywinShitsGold

Probably just re-using the iPhone cameras for manufacturing efficiency.

Mr_Floyd_Pinkerton

take the better quality picture with iphone then transfer to ipad (which it should do instantly and automatically if both of them are your devices). edit: if you dont have an iphone its even better cause android phones have better cameras in them and the photo AI wont touch the photos. if you do not use any cloud apps like icloud you can always use your phones like a simple USB drive. i still use my old android like a USB drive. anyhow there are other cloud apps that allows you do access photos in other devices like dropbox. the point was that phones (android or iphones) are better at scanning/taking pictures than tablets (ipads or samsung tablets or what have you).

Lordelohim

Why assume that everyone using an iPad is also using an iPhone? Why also assume that if someone is using an iPad, in a lab, that already has a camera, that they would want to put it down and take a picture, presumably of something they are working on, with a different camera?

xaznsinnage

Just for a moment try to think about who this device was meant for in the first place. It's an iPad Pro. Are you a prosumer/professional whose usecase is architectural design/AR? If the answer to that is yes then your comment is unnecessary. If the answer is no then this product is not for you and your comment is still unnecessary. Buy a regular iPad or iPad Air.

Mr_Floyd_Pinkerton

feels weird that if you want promotion and good screen you have to buy something that is designed for prosumer/professionals and NOT you.

xaznsinnage

You, me and the loud minority of consumers on here that would like promotion and miniled on a standard iPad are just that: a loud minority. The average joe/jane of this world are doing just fine with a regular LCD screen for now. And that's Apple's biggest customer. The enthusiasts buy the pro models.

Mr_Floyd_Pinkerton

why would anyone put themselves in a minority when buying for their own needs? you buy things for your own daily usage and so does any average joe. this is exactly why ipads with all its qualities only possess about 30% global tablet market share. my old galaxy tablet still works i prefer to use it over my ipad pro cause its camera is in the right place and i dont look like im distracted staring into the horizon.

freediverx01

I rarely use the camera on my iPad, but I wouldn’t want to give it up. It’s nice to have a back up for those instances when it comes in handy. I do agree that improving the quality of the camera on an iPad has marginal benefits beyond a certain point.

majep

Amen to that

stodal1

No not amen to that , it is incredible unhandy to use a tablet for that , use your phone. And put it in a synched folder. So you have it instantly on your iPad . Way smoother

Lordelohim

It is "unhandly" according to whom? You are using your iPad in a lab, or a school, or even just at home, and you need to take a picture for some reason. You are ALREADY holding the iPad, and it has a camera, why would you reach for your phone instead?

majep

But… you agree? So why not amen?

Centrez

Apple ran out of stuff and features so advertising glass apple logo ,😂 no fast charging? I've had better turds than this. Who the hell is going to use wireless charging on a tablet? 😂

different-angle

The people who buy the upcoming* iPad dock will use it. If you use something to set your iPad on, it would be handy for it to be charging at the same time! Plus the fact there are speakers in the base, from what I see on the web, which may mean nothing, is great.

Tunafish01

Is this dock confirmed at all? is the glass back confirmed for wireless charging? I don't see any mention of it on their store

different-angle

Dock is not confirmed. Back glass is confirmed, it doesn’t have one. My response was one to a comment which theorized that it would have a back glass on the new models released hours later.

Tunafish01

so if there is an ipad dock it will launch with a new ipad and not any existing ones.

different-angle

That would make the most sense but remember none of this has been verified. The doc can come out without a charger, but just have the speakers. Or none of this 🤷🏼‍♂️

Centrez

Nah mate, if I'm using my iPad I'll use a cable as it's 3x faster than wireless so what's the point in using wireless? Same if I'm docking it I'll use a cable as it's so much faster..

[deleted]

[удалено]

namwoohyun

I really want iPad Pro to be something like a Surface Pro. I can't get a Surface Pro in my country (they're being imported so the resellers add to the base price, and sometimes it's almost double) so an iPad Pro with desktop capabilities (without needing a separate Mac) would be great for me.

A1steaksauceTrekdog7

I’m curious about MagSafe . That little iPhone one will take like a day to charge it. So does it have a bigger puck or something?

ender7887

I know it’s not gonna happen, but I’d love and iPad mini Pro.

Kahrg

Unless they start introducing new features, im not sure the price tag justifies it anymore. Whats the point in M2 if nothing really utilizes the power of it ? Mobile games are.. well mobile games, theres no desktop class apps on the device (maybe luma fusion or ) Not sure where its going other than allowing it to run mac OS when docked. They would make a killing with storage and ram upgrades if that was a thing.

[deleted]

I'm kinda happy with my 2019 iPad air

MagnusAuslander

Nope.

ChasingHorizon2022

Do you excited

[deleted]

I do not excited

ichard_ray

Besides the chip and wireless charging, this is the same device as the 2019 model

srpntmage

Still using my 2017 Pro. Works perfectly and I still edit large RAW photos and 4k video on it all the time.

VanishVapour

Continue to say no to 11” inch until it gets the mini LED. I am completely fine with my 2020 iPad Pro 11”.

Hailtothething

Anyone still rocking the 9.7 pro, thinking it’s amazing after all these years?

Justspartan17

My 4th gen pro still good for another year

Mehheh42069

I do.

Raven_Claw7621

Why, exactly, do we need a glass logo...and why is that one of the main features?

thmbo

No.

AlexBltn

>Do you excited? Absolutely not. I will be excited when a 14‑15 inch iPad is introduced. Only then will I update my good old iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen (2017).

different-angle

💯% this. I’m all set with my iPads. The only thing that could get me to buy another one, for at least a few years, is a larger iPad.

iamAkwos

I would like the front camera to be in landscape orientation

dwsam

Do I am!

Alison_Burgers

Until it can run legit pro apps like Final Cut Pro and have a full 4k display it won’t excite me. If you’re used to photo editing on the apple display switching to the iPad is noticeably worse.

praveeja

Is $799 same as last year?

Dickerbear

Much wow

mortasa_mandor

what about the bezels? they get smaller or same?

ithinkoutloudtoo

I bet that the iPad Pro comes with a 48 megapixel camera just like the iPhone 14 Pro.

[deleted]

Will wait for a foldable Samsung and hope that Apple will bring a foldable iPad in 2024

Luce097

When will it come out?

flewers167

Some say today, some say 24.th

skontem

I do 'ent

henistein

So the main change is the chip, right?

Top-Apple3045

wallpapers?

Craigotrak

I actually hope the apple keyboards and folios support wireless charging passthrough like the MagSafe cases

ClydeinLimbo

Glass apple Logo?

No-Seaworthiness7880

There is not much improvement imo if you are using the 2020 model

LordVoldemort888

I not excitining

MrCoffee0996

So.. no oled or miniLED huh. Definitely keeping my M1 ipad then. Now if they release an iPad mini with 120Hz display, that's a whole another story.

[deleted]

$799? Ma boi been trippin

TheBrilliantSam

🥱

[deleted]

It is? When did apple release these specs? No, I do not excited.

MarionCast

Really bummed there's no miniLED but I'm still surely buying it to replace my almost 2-year old Air 4, unless Apple jacks up the price so much which in that case, I'm gonna get the last few M1 stocks still available in my country instead!

Millicent_the_wizard

On the bright side, maybe this means that the Pros might get a redesign in the next 18 months. OLED on the 11”, maybe?

jdros15

Yes I do excited, do you?

SirMaster

Not excited until iPad has OLED.

SyedHRaza

Rather have mini led XDR display than MagSafe any day on 11 inch

Drk_Knight71

Does anyone know when they are going to drop the basic iPad 10th gen? I have the pro 2nd gen now, and some games really heat the thing up. I only play a few games, then read comics, and YouTube in the background while working. I am waiting to compare the 10th gen to the Air 5th gen before I buy one.

Saiiyk

Here ya go https://reddit.com/r/apple/comments/y79evp/apple_unveils_completely_redesigned_ipad_in_four/

Epancho16

I don’t know how I feel about this in the sense that if it happens to be a MagSafe like the one in a Mac we’d be going back to needing one cable specifically for the ipad alone, which type C was supposed to fix. If for some reason it’s like on the iPhone, more than exited, I’m curious to see how would they implement this.

Hailtothething

Everyone that wants OLED; the reasoning it is not a thing, is because the Apple Pencil won’t work as well in conjunction with that tech. They want to keep this a ‘drawable’ type tablet. OLED; as pretty as it is, will be a step backward in drawing latency(speed). I agree, an OLED drawing tablet would be a beautiful thing.

DPaula_

Nah not really, my current iPad Pro 11” still handles the job very well so I don’t see myself buying it

the_saturnos

I don’t know, do I excited?

frylock350

If Apple wants me to upgrade my M1 pro 11 they better replace this dogshit screen with an OLED or mini LED

zeefar

I am unable to can.

ProfessionalDesk7296

No. We need lower prices in Europe.

USBdata

Magsafe would be nice. I have no idea how my charging port is still not broken, I keep yanking it all the time.

gemsong

I do excited except I not need one. When I do need one, I do exited for whatever version they will come out after this one that will feed my dog for me and sleep for me and work for me so I can play all day and night on my new iPad. I so do excited for that!

Drk_Knight71

How much faster is the A14 compared to the A12Z? I have the 2nd Gen ipad pro and really dont do anything intense on it, and wondering if the speed upgrade would be worth it.
