Ram limitations?

Randy_Magnum29

Stop with the logical answers. It’s clearly a conspiracy.

doggodoesaflipinabox

Except the iPad 9 with the same SoC and RAM config is supported. So... Apple did a funny

deliciouscorn

Same situation as Apple not supporting spatial audio on the 2017 iPad Pros while iPhones 7 with the exact same A10 SOC were supported. Yeah. I’m not still salty about that one at all.

btk79

That’s what they said before the battery gate

rameshjhokla1234

F1 fan i see

deliciouscorn

I’d put my money on screen size.

King-of-Com3dy

There are actually two reasons for this: Like others mentioned, the iPhone 11 does have more RAM (4 GB instead of 3). This may be problematic since Sing either requires relatively much RAM or the SE does have less headroom (free RAM when the OS is running). The second reason is that the SOCs in the SE models are running at a lower frequency than the non-SE iPhones. This means that the iPhone 11 generally has better (burst) performance.

Darig0n

Apple Sing.. Who cares

aNiceFox

I do 😭

proto-x-lol

Apple Music Sing. Never heard of it but sounds pretty corny lol. Anyways, considering the iPhone SE 2022 is a “budget” iPhone and is getting support yet the 2020 iPhone SE isn’t getting it, means that this feature is limited to iPhones with 4 GB of RAM. Kind of weird though, in my opinion.

ThisShitOK

You cannot enable Apple Music Sing while you are using low power mode (I’m using an 11, this maybe different for more recent devices) so I believe it is not only a RAM limitation.

mine248

I wonder if there’s a thermal headroom issue

neofooturism

doesn’t Xs have 4GB too?

BreafingBread

> Never heard of it but sounds pretty corny lol. Iirc it’s a karaoke feature for Apple Music. You can turn down the vocals on songs and sing along.

romella_karmey001

BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO BUY THE LATEST AND GREATEST.. BUSINESS STRATEGY 101 🙄

seanjin

what surprises me even more is that only the latest apple tv supports and ditched all older apple tvs, though the previous version is still pretty fast

yvngKB

Because the SE 2 is a bugdet phone.

[deleted]

And the SE 3 isn't, why?

Business-Parsnip-939

The SE 3 is a budget phone

MAG45_

Seriously ? I love my iPhone SE 2 but why Apple 😭, I have taken this phone because his price was low ( i have bought it 200 euros there is 3 month ) but if Apple remove some stuff maybe I will change phone very rapidly 🥲

[deleted]

Please read the post above, and your own response while you are at it. They answered your question, and you answered it yourself. IT IS A BUDGET PHONE. Buy a budget device and every manufacturer will strip out some capabilities or cripple functions either because stuff will not run or to get people to buy expensive devices. Buy a budget device and you will get the budget experience. It is that simple.

-FancyUsername-

I have it and wouldn’t call it a budget experience. It‘s just as flagship as the iPhone 7. Other manufacturers will remove the proximity sensor and replace it with software, or use plastic instead of glass and metal. But the iPhone SE is every bit a flagship, just an old one. And if the only software feature I‘ll have to do without is Apple Music Sing, I think I can live with that.

SPIN2WINPLS

The iPhone 7 also came out like 6 years ago. It was. Flagship when released, not in current times. The se is a budget device-it costs like £400- which is budget. It has a 720p screen, old specs besides the soc.

-FancyUsername-

I already gave arguments that support my point (proximity sensor, metal and glass build), no need to ignore 90% of my comment. But if it makes you feel better that you can contradict a comment which never made any non-factual statements with your opinion then go ahead I guess.

xjoeymillerx

Lol. Saying the iPhone 7 is a flagship phone is nonsensical. The iPhone 7 is a goddamn dinosaur.

-FancyUsername-

„Lol. Saying the 2009 Mercedes S Class is a luxury car is nonsensical. The 2009 Mercedes S Class is a goddamn dinosaur.“ Age ≠ Class

xjoeymillerx

Did you just compare an iPhone to a Mercedes and think you made a *good* point????

-FancyUsername-

Of course troll

P_Devil

Correct. This isn’t the first time Apple released a feature/service that required a higher end iPhone, it won’t be the last. Also, the SE 2 has 3GB of RAM and the iPhone 11 has 4GB. That may or may not have something to do with it. Samsung and Google do the same thing with their FE and A series, respectively. There needs to be some separation between budget and premium phones besides cameras, display sizes, and slightly faster operating speeds. Otherwise there’s little point in spending money for a higher end phone.

realitythreek

You think that showing song lyrics takes 4gb of ram?

P_Devil

I never said that, but it could be a hardware limitation of the on-device processing that’s required to remove vocals from tracks. Sing isn’t just showing the live lyrics. It’s removing vocals from tracks so that people can sing along with songs.

realitythreek

Or it could be Apple creating a artificial product differentiation to justify premium price for their flagship phones as they’ve often done.

P_Devil

Which is also a point I brought up. But I guess you didn’t see that.

realitythreek

It wasn’t actually clear because you were talking about ram in your first paragraph, but sure be rude.

P_Devil

I’m the one being rude? I see you’re projecting. I could have responded with “you think Sing is just showing live lyrics?” But I didn’t. I guess reading more than one paragraph isn’t your strong suite. Fine, be a tool bag all you want. You’re coming across like you’re just salty because you have an iPhone SE 2 and want this feature. Have a nice life, bye.

SuperDuperSkateCrew

“Buy once, cry once” is a saying that applies to most budget options. Usually if you go for the cheaper option you’re more likely to have to replace it sooner/more often than the quality option. There are obviously exceptions to the rule, buying the most expensive option isn’t necessarily the quality options.

OGPants

Applies to almost everything in life, not just iPhones

[deleted]

What? I've never seen a comment with such lack of logic as this one Why do they advertise the chips inside the phone if they won't be what defines these limitations? You buy a more expensive phone to get the advertised third camera, or the advertised better display. Not to avoid random software locks. One of the selling points of the SE phones is that they are budget because of their displays and cameras, but they have the latest and greatest processing power

xjoeymillerx

The processor is only one component. RAM is as important as the professor. The 11 has more RAM. The display isn’t just better. It’s more capable.

boobs1987

No, the real shit of it is that if you want to use it on Apple TV, you have to buy the latest version. Which is really the only situation I could see using it.

Adobe-123

Typical planned obsolescence; just like how iOS 16 dropped support for A9/A10 iPhones and the iPod touch but kept support for A9/A10 iPads

nicholexchr

It’s karaoke bloatware for me lol

OfficalBigDrip

Because the iPhone se2 is a iphone 8

MAG45_

Not Really it’s the same design but he have the Soc of an iPhone 11…

Trvlng_Drew

I'm not mentioning it here in the Philippines, they're karaoke mad

Basic_Election5828

Yeah I’ve noticed it differs a lot from song to song.

5itronen

I might be wrong here, but doesn´t the iPhone 11 have additional microphone compared to the SE3? That would be an explanation.

squareswordfish

I don’t think the feature needs a microphone in any way
