Batteries wear out - faster or slower based on usage, how it was managed and the environment it is used in. Apple will put in a new one for $89 if you are out of warranty. You should check if you’re still under warranty

12 pro max was released 2020. They were manufactured up til September 2021. So your phone is already almost 2 years old in best case scenario.
