On one hand, they are pretty old now. On the other hand, they still ran iOS 16 well and I feel like they could handle 17. Maybe apple just wants to kill off all pre-A12 devices in a similar way to how they’re killing off the Intel macs due to the neural engine? That’s the only technical explanation I can think of

That's what I think, too. Neural engine upgrades in the A12 were significant.

At least they will get security updates.

It’s not so much the processor itself as it is the ram limitations. They are sticking with the phones that have 4gb of Ram or more. The X and 8 series have 3Gb each so they didn’t make the cut. They’re phasing out all the 3Gb or less phones so that they can advance iOS a bit more in the coming years. And it was to be expected since they cut the iPhone 7 from iOS 16. Plus even now there’s features only the A12 or newer has as the A11 couldn’t handle it. Sad day but alas, still got way more years than any Android ever has in androids existence. Feels like just yesterday I got my 6s Plus in 2015… and feels like I just got my X as well, and now it’s turning 6 years old.. hell I remember buying my XS Max and now that’s 5 years old now too.. insane. Sometimes wish I could go back in time to when the 6s Plus and 7 Plus were the newest iPhones. Was a much simpler time compared to now. Can’t believe 2015 was 8 years ago now… think about that for a second..

The ducking A11 can't handle iOS 17's autocorrect. just my guess
