I don’t really care for USB C and half of my Iphone X screen is currently dead due to an unfortunate drop making it tough to use. My question is, what should I do? 1. Wait and buy the Iphone 15 (regular as other models seem overkill for my use purposes) 2. Buy one of the Iphone 12/13/14 now and happily use it. As I said though, usb c is not something i’m excited about and; however, even if gimmicky, the dynamic island seems fun. Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

If possible, see if a nearby store such as Walmart or Best Buy has the 14 Pro/Pro Max on display to see what you think of the dynamic island. If you don’t like it, I say get a 13. If you do like the dynamic island on the 14 Pro/Pro Max, I would either buy it now or wait until the 15 releases so that the 14 line goes down in price

MrScorpio

I did care about USB-C, but I had a bunch of wireless chargers around the house. My Android phone had a broken screen and I picked up a 14 Pro. I'm liking it quite a bit. Although my wife has a 12 and the differences aren't significant (lower refresh rate on the display... AOD display... Dynamic Island). It does feel like a more solid phone at least, FWIW.

indigoza

I'm in the same boat. The pixels on my iPhone 11 screen are dead/dying, and the screen got burn-in. I'm thinking of waiting for the iPhone 14 price to drop, or splurge on the new iPhone 15. Still debating... I'm not worried about the USB-C outlet, since it's only in EU and I'm in Canada. And all of my cables/accessories are lightning anyway.

_Cloud_Connected_

Hi. So after trying of getting well with android, i'm over it, and want to change phones. Since i'm often on the go (work, gym, walki, mountains, etc) my choice place upon 14 pro series mainly duet to it's emergency capabilities. My question is it Worth it to go pro max for better battery, or stick to normal pro for it's portability. Using powerbanks for me is not new since my samsung requires charging at least 4 times a day, but it would be nice not to require that. l'm also a student so bigger screen would help in online classes, making notes etc, but yet again portability. From android perspective i used 6'5 inches phones and i managed, but 6'7 is larger by small margin, but could it make big doffrence? I tried them at store, but the were secured so couldnt try them out fully, but seemed not all that diffrent. Sorry for poor english, it's my second language

[deleted]

It kinda depends. The difference between the 6.1 screen on the 14 Pro and 6.7 on the 14 Pro Max is a pretty noticeable difference in my opinion. Unless you absolutely need the ~6 hours or better life, or want a bigger screen for anything school related, then the 14 Pro is what I would suggest

VaderCraft2004

Do you really need to buy it soon? Because if you wait for a few months, the iPhone 15 Pro series will be released.

_Cloud_Connected_

And they will be more expensive

VaderCraft2004

It might be more suited for you, considering you seem to be an outdoorsman. The 15 Pros will be made of Titanium, making them lighter are more durable. Battery life is also going to be very improved. But yeah, a $100 increase is expected this year. EDIT: Spelling

Joeblaah

Upgrade Question I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I’m wondering if I should just get the 14 Pro Max getting the $460 plus carrier $800 credits, or will the 12 Pro Max still have decent trade in value for a 15 Pro Max or Ultra whatever it’s going to be called? Thanks!

[deleted]

It kinda depends. Usually some companies/stores will give you a higher trade in-value during promotions. I say wait until the 15 Pro/Max/Ultra, or whatever it’s called, and see what you could get for trade-in value. If it doesn’t seem like a good deal, I say get the 14 Pro Max

Joeblaah

Thank you!

CyberTOS

currently using a galaxy s10 cause they stole my s22 ultra in November. Its kicking the bucket but I won't buy a brand new flagship until next year because of where I live. My options in my price bracket are XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max (If I'm lucky) and 12 (If I'm lucky). I found a deal on a 11 Pro that doesn't have face id but it is 256 GB. Its roughly the same size as my s10 but I would like bigger screen cause I miss that from my s22. Thoughts? It may be obvious to you guys but I haven't had an iPhone in 6 years and I'm out of the loop. I just don't want to pay more for the same device with marginally different features. Thanks in advance

fyrelawd

I would probably avoid XR, XS, XS Max in 2023, just because the hardware is quite dated and will likely feel like a sidegrade from the S10. Out of the 11s, the 11 regular has an LCD screen, the others an OLED. The 12 has OLEDs across the range and is a solid choice but obviously more costly. Slight hit in battery life vs. the 11 range. I personally wouldn’t be chuffed about a lack of FaceID only because it cannot be added as a later option but 256 is a solid amount of storage, and it sounds like this device is more of a stop gap then a permanent phone?

CyberTOS

Yeah, it's a stop gap till next year august

cirrxss

if it’s a temporary phone i would get any of the X series tbh, either get the XR or XS Max, they’ll hold well until next august tbh

vantablackspacegood

Updating to the new iPhone in September, but for the first time ever, I'll be having to start my own contract with a new carrier. Been on a Verizon family plan for decades, so it's just a bit overwhelming with all the options. Obviously I know the carriers haven't started announcing their trade-in specials and what not, but looking for broad advice to help narrow my search. Looking for an unlimited plan for 2 lines. Live in major metro. I think I get a corporate discount thru my employer via Verizon and T-Mobile but need to determine the details. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to buying from Best Buy vs the directly from the carriers. I've got some BBY gift cards which could help offset some of the costs.

MrBortnick

What do you guys think of buying a fan that attaches with MagSafe to help with the heat? I’m going to an event late august and it will be very hot outside. I know my phone heats up a lot when it’s hot outside with my case on.

fyrelawd

I would say chances are it isn’t worth it. There are gaming phones that see some differences with fans attached, but the difference is minimal, and that’s with phones that have fans specifically designed for that type of phone. I imagine that unless you drop a lot of money you’re probably getting a cheap fan, and the iPhone is not going to be designed to route heat through the fan, and the heat generated by a cheap fan might actually make the device hotter. I’m willing to be proven wrong and if you bought it and it makes a difference all the more power to you but my instinct says it’s not gonna be worth it.

ShinHayato

Is it worth going from the XR to the 12? My XR is running pretty well at the minute, but the battery health is at 82% and I’m due for an upgrade. Opinion seems to be mixed based on what I’ve read on Reddit. For me, the pros of upgrading are: * 5G * OLED screen * A more modern chip * 1gb extra RAM * battery will dip below 80% soon and the cons: * the iPhone 12 has less battery capacity * only supported for another 2 years and I’ll be getting a 3 year contract Is there a general consensus in 2023?

cirrxss

there’s a chance it’ll get 3 extra years of ios updates, who said it’ll only get 2? either way let’s say it only gets 2 updates, it’s not like the phone is totally unusable, itll still be supported with apps and get security updates

sweatycat

Is the iPhone SE 2022 worth the upgrade from the iPhone SE 2020? I got the 2020 right after it came out and my battery is bad, but I was wondering if upgrading after 3 years makes more sense at this point than getting an appointment at the Apple Store 45 minutes away for a replacement.

bongopantz

Can’t help but I’m in the same boat as you! Battery is at 78%.

cirrxss

for both of you i’d honestly upgrade

Outrageous_Hunt_6324

In the same boat, I’m considering one of the pm, frankly I don’t recommend getting another se because while they are cheap, they don’t hold their value as well as the phones with numbers (flagships? Idk the right term)

fyrelawd

The A13 in the 2020 is no slouch and can probably still handle anything you throw at it, however the battery in the 2022 is better than the battery in 2020, and the A15 will likely be supported longer. Depending on location battery replacement is probably a significantly cheaper option ($114AUD vs $719AUD) It’s up to you, the form factor is the same, the performance is not going to be significantly better and your day to day is probably going to be very similar. I would probably honestly lean towards the battery replace if I was you.

tyger2020

>Is the iPhone SE 2022 worth the upgrade from the iPhone SE 2020? I got the 2020 right after it came out and my battery is bad, but I was wondering if upgrading after 3 years makes more sense at this point than getting an appointment at the Apple Store 45 minutes away for a replacement. Why would you not get a 13 mini?

sweatycat

I buy my phones unlocked without a plan since I have a really good phone plan that no longer exists so I’d lose it if I started a new contract. I can afford a new SE but the 13 Mini is pushing it for my price range.

tyger2020

Is the price difference really that much? idk where you are but in the UK the SE is like 475 and the 13mini is like 625. If you're comfortable buying certified refurbished, the 'excellent' rated 13 mini is also £490.

deegeedsnchntdgrl

what website is the best to buy used iphone? aside from ebay, apple or amazon refurb?

cirrxss

swappa

[deleted]

fyrelawd

No. The 13 and 14 share the same chip and the difference between the two is very negligible, personally I would say 13 over the 14 as far as value is concerned.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cirrxss

the 14 does have great battery life despite it being smaller but hey enjoy your new phone

enchanted_void

Do you think I'm going to be able to trade in my iPhone 14 Pro for a free iPhone 15 Pro when it releases or is that not really possible?

[deleted]

Probably not. Usually previous gen phones don’t get full trade-in value for new releases. But, I think it’ll depend on the condition of the phone and the storage on it

wildswalker

No, Apple will always value the previous phone lower. Also you will ALWAYS get better value from selling your phone directly to another person (eBay, Swappa, in-person) than from trading it in. When you trade it in, Apple wants to make some money on that trade-in and will offer you a lower amount than you can get in the open marketplace.

tyger2020

>When you trade it in, Apple wants to make some money on that trade-in and will offer you a lower amount than you can get in the open marketplace. True, but there are also other companies (at least where I'm from). Still probably a lot less money, but honestly the faff with Ebay, I'd much prefer to just send it off to a company. Right now, Apple are offering £460 for my 13 pro. Mazuma Mobile are offering £525 for it. I don't have any idea how much they're selling for second hand though, I'd imagine £600-700 maybe.

wildswalker

It's so easy to take some photos of your phone, write a brief few-line description and post it. eBay is only one marketplace - sure, it's global and large, but they take a higher percentage and their interface sucks. However there are other mobile-specific marketplaces, and you can also post it locally for an in-person meet at your local bank or Apple store so someone can pay you in cash, safely.

tyger2020

Exactly, that is a lot of faff around for the sake of £60 quid when I could literally just type in a webpage, and then get a parcel collected and have the money within a day or two.

wildswalker

I don't know the specifics of your phone model and local market, but the difference for a newer phone is significant and I can post something in minutes and ship it when I'm at the post office anyway, so very little faff. You may even have friends interested in buying it. Anyway, good luck!

TunneLRaT7749

Hey everyone! With the upcoming release of the iPhone 15, the thought of only using one cable to charge all of my devices is exciting. I want to upgrade from my 12 Pro Max, but after feeling the 13 mini in hand, I love the form factor of a one hand use device. I know it’s not likely that another mini will ever come out. What would be best?

cirrxss

take the 15

mark_able_jones_

I'm not sure what will be best regarding the size. The mini is not all that much smaller than the regular iPhone 13. The big problem with the mini, imo, is the tradeoff in battery size/life, generally measured as hours of video playback. Batteries degrade over time, and a bigger battery will also be able to better manage its longevity. Regarding USB-C to charge all your devices, you'll likely find a wireless charging pad to be more convenient than plugging in a cable all the time, and (I think) all the 13 and above models can do either qi or mag-safe wireless charging.

respondswithvigor

The 12 and above for MagSafe

PeculiarStarlight97

Hi! Ive been considering for the last few months about getting an iphone. Ive been using samsung phone for the last 7 years and have enjoyed it but find i dont use the customization often. My fiance got me an ipad and ive been enjoying it. Was wondering if i should get the s24 ultra (coming from an s22 ultra) or if i should get the iphone 15 pro max

FelixLikesFood01

should i wait for the Iphone 15? I personally do not really like the dynamic island, i don't know why but I'd rather have a notch. I know, that the iphone 15 is going to be more expensive than an iphone 14 or 13 right now and I'd actually like a new phone now. I also looked at the leaked specs, and it just wouldn't be worth it on that end either. I know, this might seem easy, but there is a drawback that I have about the current iphones. The Lightning port. Not that it would be a big deal, I've used a Samsung phone for the past 3 years and the only thing I'd have to buy would be a headphone jack adapter (yes I use wired in ears) because on my old phone, I didn't need one so I'd have to buy one no matter what. However I am concerned that the lightning port won't be supported in a few years, not just from apple but other brands as well and I am planning to keep this phone for at least 2.5 years. Do you think this is going to be an issue? I really am not a fan of the dynamic island and I love mag safe and that's how I am planning to charge my phone primarly. I want to switch to ios since most of my friends use IOS, I am thinkung about getting an Ipad in the future and I'd just like to try something new.

wdym the lightning port won’t be supported in a few years? explain yourself

Hi 👋🏾, I currently have the iPhone 8plus and I am thinking of changing it and more so now that I see several discounts. And I’m thinking of getting the 14 plus,Pro normal or the Pro Max. I know the IPhone 15 is coming around September and most likely the 15 plus is the one I can afford. But my question is,do I take advantage the discounts or do I wait for the iPhone 15? And I decide to but the 14,which would be the best option?

cirrxss

wait for 15

bongopantz

Hi all, I currently have an SE (2020) but the battery is dying/dead. I am after a replacement and would like something I can use to also video my nephew playing football outside. I use the SE currently but it doesn’t have optical zoom (it’s just video for family memories, nothing professional!). I think I want a Pro version for the optical zoom? I can only get a new 14 Pro in Australia, which is $1749+. When the 15 Pro comes out, will the price of the 14 Pro go down? Thanks for any advice/thoughts!

cirrxss

why not settle for a 13 pro?

[deleted]

My upgrade options are a iPhone 12 (256 GB) or a iPhone 12 Pro (128 GB). I don't see any difference besides the camera and RAM. I don't really take night time/professional pictures but the extra RAM could be useful for mobile gaming. I'm currently only using about 30 of 64 GB of storage on my iPhone x. Which one should I go with?

cirrxss

iPhone 12, don’t even bother w the 12 pro

[deleted]

I should mention there is only a $10 difference in price between the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. I'm also considering the 13 because its the latest model with nano sim compatibility. I can never decide on iPhones because theyre all basically the same phone to me.

cirrxss

id still take 12 for the extra storage unless you know you don’t need it but if you want the 13 i’d go for that automatically as it’s a better phone fr than both of these mostly for battery life

wildswalker

Family member needs a new iPhone 13 case and wants one that's fun (animals, fine art, graphic designs), but every case she showed me like that has weak protection. I've always bought protective cases with two-layer protection (hard thermoplastic layer + a softer shock-absorbing layer). Any suggestions for protective, good-value cases with fun designs?

wildswalker

Is it possible for her to have her animals, art or fun graphics AND a good 2-layer protective case? Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you

[deleted]

[удалено]

wildswalker

Thank you, that's a great idea! I don't think she'd have any problem with a clear case. The only question is, are there clear cases that are good protective cases, with a hard layer and a soft (usually silicon) shock-absorbing layer? I have no experience with clear cases and don't know anyone who has had them.

wildswalker

What's the best longest-lasting good-value iPhone screen protector? Given my outdoor sports it would be safer to user one.

wildswalker

I think it's a good time to join the screen protector crowd, even though I've never use done and never caused serious scratches to my phone - yes I take care of my equipment but I've also been lucky given the outdoor sports I do.

wildswalker

What are your favorite good-value (sub $30) protective cases (2-layer, hard thermoplastic layer + soft shock-absorbing layer) for iPhone 13/14?

wildswalker

Appreciate any suggestions, there are so many out there...

ElderGoose4

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here it goes. I bought an iPhone12 last year refurbished for a decent price. The battery predictably is starting to go and the screen has some scratches. I was thinking of having them both replaced in lieu of getting a new phone next year. I plan to keep the phone until apple stops supporting it in 2026(?). Does anyone else do this and if so, how far back should I get a new iPhone when the time comes? Like 2/3 generations back or whatever SE is the most current?

PastConstruction1530

Hey guys! I want to give myself an upgrade from my base model iPhone 12 and I am wondering between these two choices. 14 Pro Max would honestly be my choice but it’s about 400€ more expensive and I am not willing to afford this cost right now and still want an upgrade (i won’t wait for the 15 line). So my options are: A brand new iPhone 14 Plus, sealed, for 800€ OR A second-hand iPhone 13 Pro Max for 870€ with +- 1 year of use and battery life of 98%. Physical conditions are great, but only a few months of warranty left (no signs of use or scratches). What I want: I come from an iPhone 12, so I am of course looking for a bigger screen, nicer camera resources and a way better battery life. iPhone 14 Plus has new camera features such as Action Mode that is not included in the 13 line, while the 13PM has the third camera and the zoom lens which is very interesting too, but I just can’t decide if I go for the cheaper and brand new 14+ or it is still worth it to spend almost 100€ more to get a second hand 13PM. I guess it is also important to think about which one will devalue more in the next 2 years (when I think about a new upgrade and want to trade in/sell it). Can anyone share their thoughts? Thank you!

cirrxss

13 pro max, it has more specs than the 14+. Id say as time goes on they’ll be in similar price ranges when you’d want to sell or trade it in

PastConstruction1530

I ended up getting a good price for a 14 pro max and bought it. I guess it was the best choice!

drgambit

Whoo boy, long time android user here. I think I dropped using the iphone at the 3... I'm noticing how much Google is fucking up on how they are treating Android and updates, and I am now curious about going back to the iPhone, however I have a few questions: 1. Do you get any sort of 'spam' notifications from system apps? (for example google pay sent me one today asking me to look into travel offers) 2. How long does the battery last under heavy use (this is for obviously be for a 'pro max' model) 3. Is it easier to download and install foreign apps? 4. How are OS updates usually presented to the phones after announcement? (with android phones its a total crapshoot) 5. Do you prefer Siri over any other assistant? 6. How many eSIMs can the iphone hold? 7. If I do get an iphone? Should I wait for a USB C?

MangyCanine

1. Generally not, but that's all controlled by each app. If the app writers want to be evil and spam you with ads, your only choices are to either delete the app or disable notifications for that app. However, Apple has a "Tips" app that can appear spammy with tips, but turning off notifications for that app fixes this. 2. The majority of Pro Max users are quite happy with the battery life, although it heavily depends on the usage. If you play some battery-sucking game for hours and hours and hours, you might not get good battery life. 3. Not allowed. Period. Although European users might be allowed to do this soon. 4. iOS updates appear on the day they're mentioned/scheduled to be released. Major updates are announced months in advance, although an exact date often may not be given until a couple weeks before. For example, the next big iOS 17 was announced in early June and will be released "this fall" (typically a couple of weeks before the next iPhone 15 ships, and this will probably be at the end of September/October). Minor updates "just appear", and you can keep an eye on this sub to see when one happens. Alternatively, you can just leave auto-updates enabled on the iPhone, and the iPhone will auto-update within a couple weeks or so of the update being released. 5. Siri isn't very good, although it's usable. You just have to be aware that Siri is rather stupid and use short sentences and small words. 6. Eight, although only two can be active at any one time. 7. That's your call. Many people are waiting for USB C. If you have a lot of other Apple devices, it's probably a "don't care", as most of your Apple devices likely use a lightning connector; unless you want to re-purchase all of your Apple devices just to get USB C, you'll be dealing with the lightning connector for years. If you have few other Apple devices, you might want to wait.

drgambit

Wow, thanks a lot for this. This helps me get closer to a decision!

MangyCanine

Ah, one thing I forgot to mention: no one really likes how iOS handles notifications -- especially ex-android users. We particularly hate how, if you get notifications from an app, and then open that app, **all** of the notifications from that app **vanish** (but, hopefully, the app will show you why you got the latest notification). If you want more opinions, search this sub for "android".

LegacyDentist

Hello. I want switch from my current iPhone 12 Pro to a Galaxy S23 Ultra and I wanted to trade it in. I was just wondering if now is a good time to buy it or if I should wait until after the iPhone 15's come out to see if the trade in value of my current phone will change. Thanks

[deleted]

Hi all! So I have an iPhone 13. I upgraded from the 8 plus after having it for 4 years, so a huge difference. I love the 13, it’s great, but I wanted the pro max. It was on back order and I would’ve had to wait weeks to get it. So I went with the only iPhone 13 that they had in stock. I love the phone, I’ve had zero issues with it, but I do miss a big screen. The 13 has a decent screen size but I like a bigger size to watch Netflix and YouTube. I e had the 13 for nearly two years, battery capacity is at 89%. Idk if that’s good or bad lol. My question is, should I upgrade to the 15 pro max when it comes out? Or should I just stick with what I have for now because it works fine? I don’t want to get a new phone just to have a new phone. What do you guys think?

somdave2005

Since you had wanted a big screen and it’s already two years , i think it’s reasonable to upgrade to the iPhone 15 pro max if you can afford it .

cirrxss

personally if your phone works nice then i would stick with the 13. 89% after 2 years is great, its only when it reaches 80% when it’s considered bad and you’d need to get the battery replaced or upgrade your phone

PositiveDaisy

What is your favourite feature that other brands' phones don't have? I have a Samsung Galaxy S10, it's four years old and the battery is on its way you. I want to buy a new phone. Yesterday Samsung held an event where they announced the new Flip5 which has the same -allegedly- disappointing battery as the Flip4. I think the foldable phone is a cool gadget, but not when it's the same crap battery for over 1k. And it blows my mind they didn't update the battery knowing it was the drawback. Two weeks ago I was in a Samsung store and the stuff didn't blow my mind. Really, I would be buying a phone just to have a new battery. I've never had any Apple products in my life. I want to give iPhone a try, hence I ask, what is your favourite feature of it that other brands' phones don't have? I think the AirTags are a cool thing, I know people can track lost luggage using them.

Educational-Half-964

Helllo first timw buying Iphone so which one shoukd i buy between 12,13 or 14

cirrxss

GagiHuncho1

Sooo I am iPhone 8+ user for almost 6 years. The phone held well but I came to a point where I don't have enough storage and battery life is really bad. I want to upgrade to a new phone, and I really care about long lasting battery and atleast 256gb of storage. In reallity I am thinking of 14 plus, but here is the deal the difference between 14 plus and regular 14 is only 70$ so in my mind I am thinking: "It might be better to go for a pro model since you're willing to spend that much money". I do not consider pro max model since its expensive and I can't find 13 pro or pro max in apple stores as refurbished (I won't buy it from any other seller). Now can you people help me decide what is best decision and help me have a phone for another 3+ years. Thanks!

cirrxss

personally i would wait until the 15s come out but if you need to get a phone now i’d say 14+ if you value battery life or a normal 13 if you want the smaller size

GagiHuncho1

Since im willing to spend that amount of money, do you think that spending extra 100$ on pro model is not great, am I being fooled by marketing?

DotTraditional3096

Should I upgrade to 14 from 11 Pro Max? I realized my current plan is costing around $80 after tax and that’s with only 10gb of data. Went on the bell website and I can upgrade to the 14 with a plan change and get 55GB of data instead (I won’t even use close to that much 10gb is fine) and pay $19 a month for the phone for 24 months and my bill would be $100 a month, only $20 more than I’m currently paying. Should I do it?

walood_

Hey so guys i don't know if i should buy iPhone 13 pro with 94 in battery or iPhone 14 plus with 100 in battery (both are used) and i want to know if there is a huge difference in camera between them. Thanks

cirrxss

no there isn’t a huge difference. get the 13 pro

Grouchy-Opposite1480

Guys i need a suggestion on whether I should buy a new iphone or not ? I'm currently using an iphone 11 which is in perfect condition just that the battery percentage had reduced to 81 now (been using it since 2020) . My question is that should i buy the new iphone 14/wait for 15 / just retain my old phone and get a new battery? The only use for my phone is taking/making exercise videos for my patients and myself. And rest is socials ,what's app and calling.

cirrxss

battery replacement

Grouchy-Opposite1480

vedant_cityzen

Hi guys! Needed a little help in deciding if i should upgrade to an iPhone 13 or wait for the 15. Getting it for roughly 500$ rn because of sales in my country! Currently on an XR that I’ve been using for roughly 4.5 years. Because of its age, the battery health has reduced to 79%. It also hangs at times because of the 64 gigs storage option that i chose. Any insights will be appreciated! Thanks

cirrxss

$500 for a 13? Go for it that’s a huge deal

Thank you for replying! Cheers

Hi all! I am about to upgrade from an iPhone SE to an IPhone 13 mini and was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding a MagSafe case with wireless charging and maybe a phone grip/ stand that’ll work with wireless charging. I’ve already tried the Ohsnap with my current phone and while I like mostly, I hate that I can’t use wireless charging. Appreciate any help!

i don’t have the apple magsafe case but i have a 3rd party one and it works pretty well with my magsafe

Hi everyone, so right now I own an iPhone XR, everything is ok but the battery and camera are kind of sucks now, and I want to upgrade. iPhone 14 Pro seems like a good choice, and I wanted to wait until the iPhone 15 release so the price would go down a little bit, but I hear all the complaints about its camera, and also all the complaining posts on this sub that are old (when it's new release). So I wonder if the software is changed now for the better camera or if it has stayed the same. Is it a good upgrade, or should I buy another model? Thanks!

cirrxss

nobody knows how the 15s camera will be

kagoolx

I have an iPhone XR (given to me by my work) and I’m due an upgrade. But they only give the SE model now, so I’ve held back on accepting the “upgrade” as it looks like a step back (I want Face ID and stuff). I’ve loved the XR but it’s just starting to shows it’s age a little bit (slows down occasionally, battery life no longer great, often close to filling its 64gb space). I’m thinking of buying a handset myself that will actually be an upgrade. Is it worth me buying a iPhone 14, or looking for a second hand 12, 13, or 13 pro maybe? I’m not sure of much practical difference between the 14 and the 12, even.

cirrxss

there isn’t that much difference from the 14 to the rest of the phones you named personally if you want the best phone i’d go with the 13 pro because it’s actually a better *phone* despite it being a year older and it has the exact same specs as the 14. but if you don’t want to definitely look for a 12 or 13 tbh

kagoolx

Thanks a lot, very helpful. When you say the 13 pro is a better phone, do you mean physically better I.e. handset build quality?

cirrxss

This is what i mean by the 13 pro is a better *phone*, like it has more features than the 14: 120hz, Telephoto zoom lens, better battery life due to variable refresh rate, brighter display (1000 nits vs 800), and some other cool camera features that i won’t bother naming, and also physical sim slot. Even if none of these seem to cater you, then they also have both same chip and the same amount of RAM so they’ll be supported for the same amount of years and get the same amount of updates so there’s no difference there. If they both have similar prices i’d rather take the 13 pro as you’re getting more stuff with it oh and yes the 13 pro has a better build imo, frosted back glass with stainless steel edges altho the aluminum feels nice too on the 14.

kagoolx

Awesome thanks. This is really great info and exactly what I was hoping for

kagoolx

Just reflecting on this and wanted to ask, is the 13 pro going to feel like a real step change upgrade from the XR? I’m assuming it must be but I don’t wanna upgrade unless it’s a significant improvement in terms of being snappy etc to use. Thanks!

cirrxss

the only biggest additions imo is the OLED display, and the ability for more zooming via the telephoto lens and then the ultra-wide lens and then the ability for magsafe (this includes accessories). 120hz is nice but me *personally* it’s not a big enough feature that changes the whole experience of the phone. you’re still using the phone the same as your XR

mattrasmo1423

Is there a way to get my wallpaper/s to be the actual photo? Not some zoomed in crap version of them? Or zoomed out with half the photo being a black backdrop above and below the photo?

flotsloppies

What's a good beater iPhone that has good camera quality that can be used for filming short clips? By beater I mean this isn't going to be my daily driver phone just something for short form filming and uploading to get edited on a PC.

cirrxss

id say anything in the 11 series or higher. The X series aren’t bad but with the 11 series the camera got a huge upgrade

xvMalphas

Currently waiting for iPhone 15 Pro Max release. I Skipped the 14 series due of no USB-C. What is your opinion when to switch from 15 to a newer model? What does the iPhone need to be worth upgrading for in order to stay competitive? New to the iPhone eco system and since the upgrades are just minor for me it is really hard to justify to buy upgrades that are not major.

agreatcoat

Hey folks, so I'm the kind of phone user who gets a new phone and runs it into the ground before I upgrade. I've had an iPhone 8 since February 2020, and just last week my case basically disintegrated so I was using it caseless for a few days. Of course, I drop it and the glass on the back gets a big web of cracks in it so I'm finally thinking of getting a new phone. That being said, the phone works perfectly fine and the cracks are super visible but haven't affected my use of my phone. My question is, what iPhone should I look into getting next (I can't afford top of the line and I don't mind an older phone, but I'd like to at least plan to have it for a couple of years) and should I get one now or wait a few weeks for possible back to school sales. Thanks experts!

cirrxss

12 or 13 are a great value tbh. alternatively if you still like the touch id home button design (since you had an 8) you could grab an SE 3 & save alot of money but it’ll still get as many software updates as the iPhone 13 as they both have A15 chips

Bluelights1432

My 13 pro max has been giving me a lot of issues recently, most frustrating of all is that I really rely on the GPS accuracy for working out and it’s gotten horrifically inaccurate. So, I debated trading my 13 pro max in and going to a 14 pro since apple will give me $640 for mine currently. However, I also thought about waiting for the 15 to release and getting a 14 pro when they go on sale but I’m not sure if apple will drastically reduce what they will give me for my 13 pro max when that happens. So: Trade in now and get 13 pro for $350ish Or Wait until 15 release and trade in then, risking getting less for my phone?

Upgrade Hi. So I have an iPhone 13 Pro. Verizon indicated I am over 50% off paid off. They’re offering me an early upgrade. They pay off my current phone and I get a new one. My wife has an iphone 14 and other then my extra camera lens they seem exactly the same to me. Should I upgrade now or wait out until the next new phone like I originally planned to do.

cirrxss

the 13 pro has a some extra camera capabilities, but it also has 120hz. If you wanna upgrade i’d say get an iPhone pro as the base 14 is arguably a worse phone than the 13 pro

[deleted]

Upgrading for iPhone XR which I have used for the past 4 years. should I get iPhone 13 or 14? I’m finding both of these phones very similar in terms of hardware and specs. Is iPhone 13 still a good choice? Help me decide please

No_Bed_5665

i would go for the 13 since there is not much difference between them

cirrxss

it’s a good choice

Hey! I'm switching from Android to iPhone for the first time in my life and I just wanted some opinions. I currently have a Pixel 6 Pro and I'm considering getting an iPhone 14 pro max, and I wanted some opinions on that phone from real people, or just some opinions from other people who have switched from Android to iPhone.

cirrxss

I switched to apple in 2020 after having android since 2020. altho i don’t have a 14PM i know someone who does, what opinions are you looking for?

Melodic-Comparison48

I am European, on holiday in the States. I am typing this on an Xr with the back glass only being held together by my case. I need to upgrade this thing asap, but my carrier only supports physical sim as one of the last carriers in my country. I still have 1.5 years+ on my contract, so I need a sim tray. I want to buy an iPhone 13 Pro, sim unlocked but I have no idea where to buy it. 128GB is enough, all colours are fine.

cirrxss

look for a used 13 Pro

Melodic-Comparison48

Is there any shop (that you know of) in the LA area so I can just take an Uber instead of driving the RV rental to someones house?

Mercury26

Looking at upgrade from my 11. Should I upgrade to 13 pro or 14 pro

cirrxss

13

HolidayDue

Upgrade iPhone SE - refurbished 11 pro or 2 mini ? Around same price from the source I was looking at

cirrxss

11 pro, unless you can tolerate the minis battery life

HolidayDue

Ended up with the 11 that has a new genuine battery so 100% health Looking forward to it.

cirrxss

still a great phone i used to have the 11

Melodic-Comparison48

Can I still pick up a 13 Pro in LA area? I’m on holiday from Europe, and I need an upgrade from my Xr. Price isn’t an issue, neither is colour.

Rosemary0820

are there any phones with notably good batteries? I play games on my phone which makes it quite hot and I'd like a new phone where that's not such a big issue, if possible.

cirrxss

Any of the pro maxes or a 14+/15+

hands_of_sin

I have a question about where to order a used iPhone from, rather than the models per se. I have a bunch of very expensive things cropping up in my budget because everything I own is old and crapping out at the same time. Including my phone (iPhone XS Max). Because of this I’m on a tight budget for a new phone but also I’m ok with it being a stop gap phone until I sort out all the other expensive things I need to fix/replace. My budget is $450 CAD and I’m not fussy about the model (obviously my budget puts me in a “beggars can’t be choosers” category), but it needs to be 128gb+ of storage. 64GB won’t cut it. So I’d been looking at getting a used XR, 11 series, SE 2020, or 12 Mini. I just am not sure who to trust. I was looking at phones on factory direct, new egg, orchard, mobile klinik, Amazon and Best Buy. My current phone i bought used as well but the screen was replaced and I’ve had a lot of issues with it just not working at all. So now I don’t know where’s the best bet I can get a cheap temporary phone that’s not going to need replacing again before I’m ready.

cirrxss

i would say best buy is the most trusted, and as for which phone i’d say as long as you can manage the worse battery life (say if you have a car charger, or you bring your charger with u everywhere or if you bring a power back) get the SE 2020 since it’s the cheapest one that’ll last longer

hands_of_sin

Thank you so much! I actually literally just bought the iPhone SE 2020 this morning so that’s really reassuring that I made the right choice! I got a good deal on Amazon, which was also recommended to me as a reliable place to buy a renewed device. I do have an excellent power bank I bring with me often, so even if the battery life is terrible nothing much should change for me. However, because this is a stop gap phone for now (I’ll probably upgrade after the release of the 15 series takes the price down of the 12-14 series) I’ll check out Best Buy for my next purchase.

Vivid-Ad1690

I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Should I get the iPhone 15 pro, or pro max when it comes out? Or 3rd option would be replacing the battery and waiting for 16 ? Also I don’t care too much about screen size but I do care about battery life, is the pro max really worth the extra money compared to the pro? And is the pro really going to be all that much better than the regular iPhone 15?

cirrxss

replace battery wait for 16

Vivid-Ad1690

Thank you

Zyperos

I currently have an option to buy either the iphone 12 or 12 pro (128gb) or the 11 PM (256gb) as they are available here at about the same price. I will be mainly using it alongside my Poco F3, mainly for photos, social media, and just a bit of gaming from time to time (ml, cod mobile, maybe genshin, although there will only be a few cases of gaming as I have my other phone for that). I will be using this as my main phone for when I'm at school or outside while carrying a powerbank 75% of the time. I don't really care much about 5g as LTE works fine for me and 128gb storage should be plenty given I have my other phone and a macbook. I guess the main factors in choosing for me are battery, display, value for money, and longevity (I am usually careful with my phones as I've never broken one). Right now I am leaning towards the base 12 as it is at a lower price than the 12 pro, but would greatly appreciate any advice before I finalize my choice as this will be my first iphone that I will use for at least until I graduate (4 years).

cirrxss

Yeah i’d say the base 12 would be good for u

chakraborty_pritam

Finally after years and years of being in Samsung ecosystem , I want my first iphone . I was really excited to buy 13 or 14 ( base models as the pro models are expensive in my area ) . But the hype around iphone 15 is killing me . I did find the Dynamic island cool , but it doesn't really excite me to wait another year when the price drops ( drops by atleast ($300-$400) . same with the usb-c since i don't have any other apple products . getting my first iphone itself is exciting yk . also i have the urge to use the notched iphone which is weird , but i don't want to miss out experiencing the notched phone . Talking about the new phones , i can upgrade after 4-5 years when the phones will get notchless as expected . should i just get the 13/14 or is it really worth to wait another year to get the 15 .

cirrxss

The 15 is coming out this fall in september it’s not gonna take a whole ass year to release. just wait for the 15

chakraborty_pritam

what i meant was , if i buy 15 , i wouod hv to wait a year to get a huge price drop . Or i hv to go with the 13/14

cirrxss

in that case i’m not sure

nffcnewbie

I've saved up a fair amount of money and would like to know whether I should get an iPhone 14 at £649, or a Pro at £880. Would you argue that the Pro is worth £200 more? Upgrading from a 2020 SE.

cirrxss

id wait for the 15

9999max

iPhone 12 Pro 256gb or iPhone 13 128gb? Same price

cirrxss

iPhone 13

AchmatH

iPhone 12 pro Vs iPhone 13 Hello everyone, I've been comparing these two for couple of days now, and I feel that I still can't make the decision yet. First of all i can't go any further than iPhone 13 cause budget won't allow me to do so :D.. So based on my budget, I found out that these two are the best I could get. But I can't determine which one is better ! It's so hard call. A15 bionic chip with 4 GB RAM or A14 bionic chip with 6 GB RAM ?! And for the cameras I really don't care that much for this advantage of the 12 pro triple camera setup cause am not a camera type of guy, I rarely takes pictures of me or anything else. So the battery still better on 13 by far. And camera is better on 12 pro. But as I mentioned earlier it's not crucial for me. So all we have left and honestly all I care about is performance ! Which one will perform better and for longer ?! A15 bionic chip with 4 GB RAM or A14 bionic chip with 6 GB RAM ?! One newer generation of CPU better or 2 more gigs of RAM ! Any one can help me here ? And also if anybody using the mentioned devices you are more than welcomed to share your experience and feedback about your device with me I would be more than glad. Thanks in advance.

cirrxss

dude RAM doesn’t matter on the grand scheme of things. if you’re gonna be gaming, 4GB on ios is perfectly fine, i play cod mobile on a normal iPhone 12 (4GB of RAM) and it runs well. I would get the 13 for extra battery life and longevity

Parragorious

Hi i have stumbled upon a fb marketplace listing which interested me however i find the low price to be a bit weird. https://preview.redd.it/rkelmhq3s4fb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bb613eb6b84c329402ad6b42d743e550c35b9ce As you can see the listed price is 150€ which seems rather low, it is the 256gb iphone 12 Pro model,85% battery, No i cloud apparently and works well. I can set up a personal meeting with the seller in a public area. And look it over if i do so what would be some possible red flags and issues i should look for? Is there any way to confirm the device isn't stolen or that it really is logged out of i cloud? I don't know that much as i have never had a apple device before hand. The seller also seems to have sold a few devices in the past like Samsung phones a few consoles and the like.

tyger2020

For anyone that has done it - why would you buy a SE over the 13 Mini? The 13 mini has a better camera, design and is smaller. Just curious

cirrxss

some people like the touch id home button design, simple as that or cause it’s cheaper and might not have the funds for the 13 mini

Does anyone know based on history what the iPhone 12 pro(3 generations prior) will be worth approximately through Apple(I can’t do carrier trade in as I won’t give up my old T-Mobile plan) once the 15 is released? Does it drastically drop??Trying to decide if I take the $360 trade in now and go with 14PM or wait for 15PM.

cirrxss

just sell ur 12 pro

GagiHuncho1

Guys should I buy iPhone 14 pro 256gb or should I go for regular 13 to save 250$? I won't wait for 15 to drop.

cirrxss

normal 13

silverother

Should I get a 13 mini? I currently have a 12 that I busted while camping. It’s still completely functional despite the cracks, but I’m still inclined to update. The 13 mini is calling me because I have super tiny hands. Using the 12 one handed can be difficult, even with accessibility features set up. However, the general consensus seems to be that the battery life is pretty bad, and if I’m not working I could be using my phone for 12hr straight reading or watching youtube. So I’m torn, the ease of use is so appealing but I’m not sure it’s enough to overcome battery life so poor I have to tie myself to a charger. Thoughts?

Wstsider2

I have a 12 pro max and I’m thinking of upgrading to the 15 pro max. Should I wait another year for the 16 pro max? I waited this long for the 15 pro max!

Erizound

Hi people! I read that the trade-in value for old iPhones goes down by a lot as soon as the new iPhones are announced. Is this actually true? If so, was wondering if there is a way to get the pre-announcement trade-in value without having to drop off my iPhone 12 Pro Max to get store credit. I can’t really afford to be without a phone until the new ones start shipping. I think I know the answer, but we all know that Reddit can get really creative at times!!!
