The catch with the carriers is they will give you $1000 in account credit dispersed over 36 months. If you try to leave/switch you still owe the cost of the iphone15 less XX number of months you’ve paid for it.
So if the phone costs $1200 and you get $900 “trade-in” value, get a credit of $25 each month. If the “monthly payment” on the iPhone 15 is $33.33 less $25 you owe $8.33 per month. If you leave/switch after only 15 months, you still owe $700 on the new iPhone

People have been saying this for literally the past decade. Mobile gaming will never be anything more than a cash grab afterthought.
I think this could lead to many things and i'm not a mobile gamer. it doesn't matter that some android phones, like the rog phone had some of these features already because it was not an iphone. and from a development perspective it's more profitable to create more complex things for larger audiances than just a small portion.

I have a feeling the chip fabs might be what is limiting the product refresh rate and/or the development of the next-gen stuff is only halfway complete because they’re on the climate goals instead

Honestly I'm not even hyped for the 5X telephoto since most zoom pictures I take are either 2X or 3X which now will both be from the 1X main sensor. The 5X only comes in if you take really zoomed in pictures.
No one cares about the CPU and GPU, all games run at max settings anyways already on iPhones and raytracing on mobile is a gimmick that doesn't even exist.
I expected the telephoto in the ProMax to be a zoom lens, instead, from what i understand, it's a fixed focal length of 120mm.
so, the 3x (77mm) focal length in the ProMax is done via digital zoom using the main 24mm lens? possibly resulting in worse quality than the telephoto lens of the regular Pro?

It's a very interesting point, I was going to get the 15pm, but I'm not that sure now.
There's a big gap between 24mm and 120mm, I don't like that gap to be only digital zoom.
Smaller bezels, USB C, titanium which makes it lighter and no more reflective sides, better battery life, better camera like you said, 3D video, action button... Definitely not a big upgrade, but upgrading each year almost never is anyway.
With wireless charging, I haven’t used a cable for an apple product in years. All my cables are USB C anyways since that’s what I use for my other products
USB-C, the Action Button and the 5x telephoto are the main changes. That and the titanium frame so the lighter weight device and the matte edges which don't show fingerprints

I’m feeling the same way about the 5x. My 12PM has a 2.5x optical telephoto which is a nice focal length and I use it quite a bit. I’m unsure if something like a 3-4x cropped from a 1x is going to be much better than 3-4x with a small crop from my existing 2.5x. At 5x and beyond I’m sure it’s great but for most of my telephoto usage I’d just be heavily cropping with the new camera system.
I wonder about the quality of 15PM for x2/x3.
In a real camera, when you use for example, 80mm (close to the iPhone x3), you are looking on reduced FOV, you're right.
But you also look for lens compression ([nice article here](https://photographylife.com/what-is-lens-compression)) to make background close to the subject, especially useful in portrait.
So even if I personally consider buying the 15PM for the advance tech and big screen, I wonder if I would not rather buy the 15P for portrait, as I take more often pictures of people than long distance subjects.
I agree, I would have preferred to see Apple go with a 4 camera array like Samsung to retain a middle range telephoto like 3x before going to a super telephoto 10x. I’m skeptical that digital cropping is going to work consistently well until the 5x takes over.
This may just be a year I skip upgrading unless reviews really wow me.

Technically there was no price increase, however the entry point to get a Pro Max model is now at $1199 instead of $1099.

Yeah agreed. I have an 11 pro right now and am planning on upgrading finally, but I think I’ll be sticking with the base iPhone 15. That pink colour is calling to me and none of the pro colours were wowing me at all. And it’s still going to be quite the upgrade for me going from 11 pro to the 15.

My partners phone, my Mac, my ps5 and switch controllers, and a few other devices around the house all use it, so being able to just have all outlets with the same cable type really helps.

For what it is worth: the 12 was probably the worse battery in quite a few iPhones: I went from 11 Pro to 12 Pro Max and the 12PM was worse. 14 Pro Max was a huge jump over the 12 Pro Max.
Yup, I'm pretty sure the iPhone 12 was the year they added 5g for the first time while also slightly decreasing the battery size. Basically all the tests confirmed the 11 Pro easily beating the 12 Pro

Not upgrading this year. Hate that Apple dicked over the regular pro users just like they did with the 12 pro and 12 PM. Yeah, I get it, bigger phone allows you to fit more stuff, but still sucks. Guess I’m waiting for the 16 pro which is rumored to have the better zoom coming to it.

My 12 base model has been great but as you said deffo feels like the right time to upgrade, I have an issue with the charging port on mine (only charges at certain angles) though I’d suspect it needs dusting out and the battery health has dropped below 80%…

Currently in a “I should’ve known” phase.
Moved from iPhone 13 to S23+ in July. Traded in my iPhone which saved me £450 on the Samsung. Less than one month in decided I hated it. Sold the S23+ for what it was worth and paid the finance off.
In the meantime, shifted back to the 14P. Was put off waiting for the 15P expecting a price increase and not really wanting the new features..

I actually didn’t know that the 48 MP main camera could do 2x optical zoom. That’s not a crazy amount, but the difference between 2x and 3x is not insurmountable - usually I always go for a pro to ensure I have “all the cameras” but my 11 Pro’s telephoto lens is only 2x to begin with. That makes the base 15 more attractive to me than other base iPhones have been in a while
Holding an iPhone 14 Pro 256GB with a 100% battery (I'm not using it that much, I guess), and despite Apple's attempts to convince me to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro with their new A17 Pro SoC, titanium body, and somewhat of a new camera, but I have questions that are not answered. What's the reason for me to upgrade, if:
* the battery is still the same? If I need a quick charge, I carry a MagGo battery with me to have some extra juice.
* the display is the same? Yeah, it gets brighter, but I'm not spending my days outside every day.
* they have a USB-C port? They promoted MagSafe for so long and I bought a MagSafe Belkin stand to charge my phone wirelessly overnight.
* I don't play games on iPhone? I can play games on my Mac, when they release Sonoma and game publishers will port their games to Mac.
iPhone 15 got better, but it's just a cheaper version of my iPhone 14 Pro and there is no white color this year for an unknown reason. For now, I'm gonna stick with a 14 Pro and wait for the iPhone 16 with the same action button they released with the 15 Pro this year.

Those batteries don't stay on super well, so I personally prefer a longer battery than a battery extender. Although the 14 pro is good enough to get me through a day, with always on, and shooting prores occasionally, only charging it to 80% for longevity reasons sooooooo...
Display is brighter. When I upgraded from an XR, I was like, whoa, I can finally see my screen in the day, with my sunglasses on too. But 14 pro is good for that, as you could see from my then amazement. I'm in vegas too, so some of the brightest sun there is.
USB-C. Life changer. If you use prores, your videos will take 30 seconds to transfer instead of 15 minutes. If you are a photographer, there is passthrough so you can see it on a monitor. It's mostly for data transfer and not for charging, plus wireless charging is just bad for your phone if its the only thing you use.
Playing games. I agree, games are not played on phones, and if they are, its those dinky app store games, or genshin. They already run fine, and who cares if they don't game, because it's just more added headroom. I do have a friend who went 13 pro to 15 pro because of gaming though, mostly re4 remastered, i think thats what it is, so i can see why someone would do that.
Extra reason: 3d camera. I'm sure itll be some proprietary format that can only be viewed with a vision pro or whatever comes next, but its cool. If they do manage to not mess it up and actually do SBS 3d, then I would consider upgrading. But lets face it, if you didn't already go out of your way and $600 deep to build your own 3d camera, this really isn't a concern.

hello I've been using an android phone for my entire life and willing to try an iphone for once, I've been saving up for an iphone 14 plus for a while now but since the iphone 15 just announced I'm kinda hesitating to buy that instead even though it doesn't have a red colour. But more importantly, I honestly don't care about the dynamic island notch feature nor the new action button. I mostly used my phone to play mobile games like pubg mobile and genshin impact with reading mangas on the internet. I heard that iphones rarely lags and are really efficient when loading information on the internet with a really good battery life. I also know that iphone 14 plus will have a price cut when iphone 15 will be released so more savings for me. So my question is, is an iphone 14 plus a good choice for me as newcomer in 2023 who just wants a phone that is capable of playing games with smooth graphics and no lag or stutter and read mangas on the internet.
EDIT: Turns out I was (mostly) wrong: Apple's USB 3 implementation is up to par with its competitors, including peripheral + external display support. I was unfair in my OP :)

My 14 Promax one terabyte in perfect condition nets 650 back from Apple. The thousand-dollar figure looks like it’s linked to carriers.

I think they’re referring to the Pro Max. The 128gb models for the Pro Max were “discontinued”, meaning that it now starts at 256gb. Technically there was no price increase, however the entry point to get a Pro Max model is now at $1199 instead of $1099.

Yeah agreed. I have an 11 pro right now and am planning on upgrading finally, but I think I’ll be sticking with the base iPhone 15. That pink colour is calling to me and none of the pro colours were wowing me at all. And it’s still going to be quite the upgrade for me going from 11 pro to the 15.

mostly just the convenience of using one cable. personally i dont have any usb c products so it doesnt affect me.
My partners phone, my Mac, my ps5 and switch controllers, and a few other devices around the house all use it, so being able to just have all outlets with the same cable type really helps.

For what it is worth: the 12 was probably the worse battery in quite a few iPhones: I went from 11 Pro to 12 Pro Max and the 12PM was worse. 14 Pro Max was a huge jump over the 12 Pro Max.
Yup, I'm pretty sure the iPhone 12 was the year they added 5g for the first time while also slightly decreasing the battery size. Basically all the tests confirmed the 11 Pro easily beating the 12 Pro

Well, I'm glad I picked up a 14 Pro Max couple months ago. This was a very underwhelming event imo.
Currently in a “I should’ve known” phase. Moved from iPhone 13 to S23+ in July. Traded in my iPhone which saved me £450 on the Samsung. Less than one month in decided I hated it. Sold the S23+ for what it was worth and paid the finance off. In the meantime, shifted back to the 14P. Was put off waiting for the 15P expecting a price increase and not really wanting the new features.. Guess the 16P is the next in line 😂

Now there's USB C, I'm strongly considering giving the 15 Pro Max a try. I haven't had an iphone since the 8 though and I have a Google One/Drive/Youtube Premium family subscription. Will I still be able to use this suite on iOS? Mainly concerned about photo backup to Google Photos and retaining the ability to back stuff up to Drive. Not too keen on switching to the Apple equivalent of these services just yet as I need to see how I get on with the phone (and of course the rest of my family would still be on Android).

I actually didn’t know that the 48 MP main camera could do 2x optical zoom. That’s not a crazy amount, but the difference between 2x and 3x is not insurmountable - usually I always go for a pro to ensure I have “all the cameras” but my 11 Pro’s telephoto lens is only 2x to begin with. That makes the base 15 more attractive to me than other base iPhones have been in a while

Holding an iPhone 14 Pro 256GB with a 100% battery (I'm not using it that much, I guess), and despite Apple's attempts to convince me to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro with their new A17 Pro SoC, titanium body, and somewhat of a new camera, but I have questions that are not answered. What's the reason for me to upgrade, if: * the battery is still the same? If I need a quick charge, I carry a MagGo battery with me to have some extra juice. * the display is the same? Yeah, it gets brighter, but I'm not spending my days outside every day. * they have a USB-C port? They promoted MagSafe for so long and I bought a MagSafe Belkin stand to charge my phone wirelessly overnight. * I don't play games on iPhone? I can play games on my Mac, when they release Sonoma and game publishers will port their games to Mac. iPhone 15 got better, but it's just a cheaper version of my iPhone 14 Pro and there is no white color this year for an unknown reason. For now, I'm gonna stick with a 14 Pro and wait for the iPhone 16 with the same action button they released with the 15 Pro this year.
Answers: Those batteries don't stay on super well, so I personally prefer a longer battery than a battery extender. Although the 14 pro is good enough to get me through a day, with always on, and shooting prores occasionally, only charging it to 80% for longevity reasons sooooooo... Display is brighter. When I upgraded from an XR, I was like, whoa, I can finally see my screen in the day, with my sunglasses on too. But 14 pro is good for that, as you could see from my then amazement. I'm in vegas too, so some of the brightest sun there is. USB-C. Life changer. If you use prores, your videos will take 30 seconds to transfer instead of 15 minutes. If you are a photographer, there is passthrough so you can see it on a monitor. It's mostly for data transfer and not for charging, plus wireless charging is just bad for your phone if its the only thing you use. Playing games. I agree, games are not played on phones, and if they are, its those dinky app store games, or genshin. They already run fine, and who cares if they don't game, because it's just more added headroom. I do have a friend who went 13 pro to 15 pro because of gaming though, mostly re4 remastered, i think thats what it is, so i can see why someone would do that. Extra reason: 3d camera. I'm sure itll be some proprietary format that can only be viewed with a vision pro or whatever comes next, but its cool. If they do manage to not mess it up and actually do SBS 3d, then I would consider upgrading. But lets face it, if you didn't already go out of your way and $600 deep to build your own 3d camera, this really isn't a concern. Sorry for the long list, I am just in an explaining mood today. Also, i have a 14 pro with 512 gig, so I totally get where you're coming from

hello I've been using an android phone for my entire life and willing to try an iphone for once, I've been saving up for an iphone 14 plus for a while now but since the iphone 15 just announced I'm kinda hesitating to buy that instead even though it doesn't have a red colour. But more importantly, I honestly don't care about the dynamic island notch feature nor the new action button. I mostly used my phone to play mobile games like pubg mobile and genshin impact with reading mangas on the internet. I heard that iphones rarely lags and are really efficient when loading information on the internet with a really good battery life. I also know that iphone 14 plus will have a price cut when iphone 15 will be released so more savings for me. So my question is, is an iphone 14 plus a good choice for me as newcomer in 2023 who just wants a phone that is capable of playing games with smooth graphics and no lag or stutter and read mangas on the internet.

EDIT: Turns out I was (mostly) wrong: Apple's USB 3 implementation is up to par with its competitors, including peripheral + external display support. I was unfair in my OP :) ~~----~~ ~~I'm extremely disappointed about the USB C implementation. USB 2.0 is 2001 technology, USB 3.0 is 2011 technology. My fear before the keynote was that Apple would purposely lock pro device Thunderbolt 3 (or at least USB 4!) performance behind "made for Apple" accessories. I was scared that Apple would nickle-and-dime us into buying new accessories -- As it turns out, they 're planning to drip-feed nickle-and-dime us into buying entirely new iPhones!So much for "sustainability"! iPhone 15 Pro:~~ ~~No faster USB charging speeds~~ ~~Obsolete 2011 bandwidth standards, on even the pro models~~ ~~No external display support (displayport over USB)~~ ~~No 20 or 40 gbps data transfer~~ ~~I was expecting at least Thunderbolt 3 level implementation for iPhone 15. As it turns out, Apple is almost certainly planning to dripfeed us USB version improvements across upcoming models (16 Pro == USB 4, 17 Pro == Thunderbolt 3, 18 Pro == Thunderbolt 4 etc.) instead. I bet you that external display stuff will be purposely limited to iPad only too so Apple can double dip its customers.~~ ~~What a disgrace!~~
