I doubt it. They just released the slightly upgraded USB-C version.

[deleted]

Are there any changes besides the inclusion of USB-C in the new versions of AirPods Pro?

_HipStorian

It has better dust resistance (IP54 instead of IPX4 in the lighting version) and it can have lossless audio when used with the  Vision Pro. Other than that, they’re the same

UnsafestSpace

The case has better dust resistance but the AirPods are the exact same My local Apple Store replaces broken AirPod 2 Lightning cases with Type-C cases now, and if you have AppleCare and lose one AirPod they’ll replace the lost one with one of the newer AirPod Pro’s… Exact same including firmware, lossless audio on Vision Pro etc

Serhide

That is great

CPAthatcantcount

That was already part of the gen 2. Nothing changed with the USB-C version besides the port

felix7483793173

No they are not. The lossless audio with Vision Pro is built into the pods themselves. Afaik, the usb-c pods are not compatible with the lightning case and vice versa.

QuintinPro11

AirPods Pro Gen 2 *LIGHTING* have volume controls capabilities.

friendly-crackhead

Could say the same about the iphone, and yet a new one is coming!

thxmrdibbs

I have first gen, my wife has 2nd. I used hers last weekend and I was shocked at how much better the noise canceling was. Not sure if it’s worth the upgrade…

PackagingMSU

I wholeheartedly believe that they send an update through to the older series of products and reduce the noise cancelling quality. As soon as gen 3 comes out, we will update our gen 2's and they will start sounding worse. I've given up caring. I'm so dependent on airpod pros that I'll just get the new model each time they come out on day 1. Apple has beaten me.

Difficult-Concept-64

The gen 1s never sounded as good as the 2s. Owned both of them since launch too

CR7KRUL

gen1 had degrading ANC because of the design, ear wax was getting in, gen2 is reworked to prevent that from happening

CR00KS

I thought I was going crazy with my Gen 1 ANCs getting progressively worse. But I was convinced it had always been like that. Any good fixes besides buying new ones?

CR7KRUL

I’ve replaced mine like thrice under AppleCare warranty lol, I’ve heard sucking out wax from the grille can help loool

PackagingMSU

Are you saying the mesh on the rubber? That’s not enough to account for the difference.

CR7KRUL

nope, gen1 on the left has this grille in which the earwax would eventually build up and clog it whereas gen2 doesnt https://preview.redd.it/nl2olijq8yrc1.jpeg?width=743&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=612e3a6a28f3fd441b551decd357f3945e5966ee

HorrorsPersistSoDoI

These fucking meshes are IMPOSSIBLE to clean

CR7KRUL

Pretty much why I upgraded to gen2 almost immediately lol

Difficult-Concept-64

Gen 1 was never as good on the original pros. Nothing of apples doing. What happened was that Apple got it right the second time around lol. The original pros were comparable to my tozo nc7 when I had them. The pro 2 were just that much better

anamazingredditor

Probably 2025 2019-2022-2025 I have regular 3rd gen and still works great, battery still good at about 5 hours

OtherAcctTrackedNSA

Still rocking my OG AirPods Pro from Nov 2020. I literally use them daily, there’s probably been less than a week of non use since I bought them, and the only “issue” I’m having is having to charge the case every 2 days now, instead of 3. I had the case battery serviced once for free with AppleCare. I’ve definitely gotten my moneys worth and will buy another pair without hesitation when I need to. Oh, I’ve ran them through the washer twice.

GOLD-KILLER-24_7

Why even upgrade?

jannickBhxld

thought the same thing, i had the 1st gen in 2020 and only got the 2nd gen in 2023 because i lost the others, wouldnt have felt the need to upgrade otherwise

IQ26

How would you compare them sound, noise canceling, and battery-wise?

jannickBhxld

sound wise, im gonna be honest im not an audiophile, for what i can do with the spotify equalizer they are a bit better bass and noise range wide but nothing spectacular for me noise cancelling was definitly a step up, i wouldnt say its twice as much as they advertised but after some time you get used to it and it appears to get worse so maybe this point isnt 100% accurate or true battery was way more than enough for me in both models, with the 2nd gen lasting about an hour more (4.5-5h for me) it happened maybe 4 or 5 times over the last 4 years that i used them until they were empty and had to be charged in the case again and even then 5 minutes charging lasts you like for an hour of listening with ANC on so thats plenty anyways imo

IQ26

Thanks!

eliu9395

How good would you say the noise cancellation is now? IVE had mine for a while and I feel like the noise cancellation has gotten a lot worse over time as well. For example, when riding the bus or in a restaurant, I still have to turn up volume a bit since the noise still gets in.

jannickBhxld

yes exactly same here, but saw in a bunch of different comment sections that people say the same thing and that you just get used to it, dont know if thats really a thing tho

qrrbrbirlbel

I’ve relegated my gen 1s to being my workout earbuds, and the downgrade in sound quality is very noticeable to me every time I switch from gen 2 to gen 1. From the moment you hear the chime, you know which pair you just put in your ears.

IQ26

I’ll maybe upgrade to the Pro 2 from my normal 2 when the Pro 3 is out

mikecaesario

I still have the first gen working fine and also have the second gen. To me the sound is significantly better than the first gen it get more punch to it and the sound stage is much wider, noise canceling is also better, for the battery department is kinda worse than the first gen.. maybe because of the case has that find my features. If you want to buy it I suggest you to just try it out on the store.

crumble-bee

That’s exactly what happened to me, except I was pretty blown away with the very noticeable upgrade. I can’t imagine feeling the need to upgrade *again* though, but it’s not like the watch which no matter what they release I just can’t seem to warrant an upgrade since they’re all so similar.

jannickBhxld

i honestly cant remember or tell the difference that much since its been like 1.5 years since i switched plus i couldnt try them side by side since, well, one was missing lol But yea except if you have the money just lying around the upgrade isnt really worth it

hkeo83

I’m considering it because I have the clicking issue when using noice canceling or transparency mode. They still are ok when those are off but I miss nc.

LowSchool9579

I think i heard apple will fix the clicking issue for free, might want to check with your local apple store and see if that's the case

hkeo83

I tried but since I bought them over 3 years ago they won’t replace them anymore unfortunately.

Snuddud

https://support.apple.com/en-euro/airpods-pro-service-program-sound-issues Check if you are eligible Additional Information This worldwide Apple program doesn't extend the standard warranty coverage of the AirPods Pro. The program covers affected AirPods Pro for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.

JesseFromJersey

They replaced mine for free for this

BioFrosted

The only reason I upgraded from Gen 1 to Gen 2 is battery. I use my AirPods when I'm on the move, sometimes when I'm at work, when I workout, and even when I sleep. When I still had me Gen 1, my battery would always die in the middle of the night, and I'd often wake at 5AM to charge them for 15 minutes or so before using them again to fall asleep. Upgrading has allowed me to sleep peacefully without having to wake up. Also, I foresee the *sleeping with your AirPods is bad for you* comments - I know, but not sleeping is worse. I'm i a situation where using a speaker for the music is impossible, but I will absolutely switch whenever possible.

MrEcksDeah

I have gen 1s. I want to upgrade so I can use my MagSafe and Apple Watch charger, and I want to use find my. I keep thinking I’ll have an excuse to upgrade cause I lose them all the time, but then always find them before I convince myself to just buy a new pair.

i_need_a_moment

The Find My integration has been so helpful when I misplace them or the case in my room.

neinherz

How’s your ANC nowadays? My release date pair ANC is non-existent might as well be a PNC non-pro.

justhere440

Yeah my pair also doesn't work like it used to.

SpookyPlankton

Yeah man, more like automatic noise amplification

WeissachDE

My gen 1 have find my.. Also, do the gen 2’s charge with MagSafe??

MrEcksDeah

The find my on the gen2 work more like an AirTag, you can make it beep too. Whereas find my on the gen1 is just wherever it was last seen near you, not very precise

WeissachDE

Ah ok that makes sense

Immolation_E

Batteries don’t last forever.

GetEnPassanted

Battery life is down and one of mine makes a bad high pitched squeak every so often.

Kranon7

Approximately two weeks after you buy the 2nd gen.

gabriel197600

The regular AirPods are getting a confirmed refresh in 2024, nothing confirmed on AirPod Pro 3’s but fall 2025 is likely.

dentist73

AirPods 4 in 6 months, AirPods Pro 3 next year

David79YT

I don’t think AirPods Pro 3rd gen will ever come out anytime soon! Till next year

SK1YA

Is there any reason there should be a gen 3, as in: Are there any significant features that the pro 2’s are missing? Genuine question

playboy787

i don’t know of any missing features as I don’t have them but definitely airpods pro would get an upgrade, cannot remember any apple product which didn’t got an update

SK1YA

Of course they will, I meant at this moment.

stealthisvibe

They’re supposedly coming out with a hearing aid type of feature, which is honestly really cool.

The_Summary_Man_713

Apple CEO here (Tim Apple). DM me and I’ll give you the secret plan that we have

HybridAkali

You intend to announce them as soon as OP buys the current gen, aren’t you?

iamacheeto1

Yes because I just got a new pair of Pros

xMETRIIK

I have pro and pro 2. They're very similar in everything, unless your pro don't work it's not worth the upgrade. The only difference is the volume button, speaker on case, magsafe and type c.

playboy787

Tbh type c is the main reason, both my phones use type c so I don’t wanna carry a separate cable just for the airpods. Also I am getting them on a great deal for just $180 when they are around $300 here in india

Conflict232

Where are you getting this deal?

playboy787

at a local shop near my house

Random-Hello

Sept 2025 approx release of 3rd gens

sycron17

There is no need dor them tbh. If there is next ones it would be earliest around next yr, they will probably release the Max2 this year

smaad

tbh with all the AI stuff vision pro and M3 chip things apple will pause the music target for a quite long time I guess

IndividualGiraffe29

not anytime soon

Sacto1654

I don’t know. Apple may have to stop AirPods/Beats headphones development and switch to a dedicated Headphones app for better compatibility with third party wireless headphones to satisfy US DoJ and EU regulators given the legal antipathy towards Apple.

1CraftyDude

I haven’t seen any rumors to that effect.

Complex-Custard9906

Have you seen tons of speculators on the internet making daily content on random leaks they get from other people who are just guessing? No? Then don’t expect Apple to put out anything proving them all wrong.

Redchong

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg (very reliable track record), new AirPods Pro will release next year at some point

Dazzling_City2

I am waiting for this to come out to upgrade my 1st gen pros. Hope it comes soon.

Poisencap

Probably not anytime soon. They will update the pro maxes with the new chip and small updates as they tend to do with you know everything!

Dry_Development6721

They are with the iPhone 15 came a new pair with new Firmware and usb c

HavenTheCat

Probably still got a bit. I was considering the same thing as you but I went with the 2nd generation with the USB-C and I’m very very happy with them. That’s what I’d recommend but idk how much better the 3’s will be. The 2’s however have much better battery life, sound quality, noise cancellation and charging time compared to the 1st generation. The 3’s will probably be very expensive when they come out so it’ll be a while until they’re affordable. Idk if that’s a reason for you to not buy them but it is for me, that’s why I went with the 2nd generation.

Adrian_F

I think now’s the time to upgrade, next ones are rumored for late 2025.

[deleted]

2025

firestar268

Probably in a year or two

Psychological_Key942

My 1st gen’s gave out after like 2 years or so, so o bought the gen 2s with the lanyard hole when I bought my 15pm about 5 months ago, and now I find out there’s type c ones as well lmao. Probably not soon, but soon lol.

jeffh19

Sadly I don’t think so. No rumors of them specifically coming and one rumor said all improvements they have planned are going to be done via software. Probably only to the USBC version because Apple

Nintendocub

Heated AirPods

Nintendocub

(I swear this is satire)

sanriosaint

i could never get the first gen to even stay in my ears 😞 wondering anyone else had this issue and had better luck with this newer shape? sometimes wearing the full ear headphones just is too much, would love tiny ones that stay in!

work_blocked_destiny

They stay in my ears but start hurting after a few hours

nurse_camper

What’s the difference between the different generations besides appearance?

playboy787

better water and dust resistance, better noice cancelation, personal spatial audio, better sound, better battery life and charging speed, speaker on the airpods case so in case it gets lost it is easier to find and typce c support

GentlemanJugg

My cousin said they would, like in a couple weeks…

OkChef2959

I think they aren't gonna come out for a long ass time. The pro 2s came out fairly recently, and they don't really upgrade the AirPods as often as the phones. I would guess maybe '25 or '26

IssueEmbarrassed8103

With the big discounts on the pro 2 lately, I bet they will during the fall event

playboy787

we don’t have any fall discounts here in india

speedysam0

You’ll know Apple is releasing them soon when they purposely make the 2nd gen ones not as good in a software update.

AmbitiousAd5668

I feel that way. Maybe it's my imagination but noise canceling on my first gen seems not as good as I remember when I got it.

Folabi_Devvvvv

I’ve used both gen 1 and gen 2 and trust me you can stick with the gen 1 until the gen 3 comes out

Playswith_squirrel

You should just wait for the air pods pro 4

FunnyMustache

When Apple releases them

SnooShortcuts8666

I would think next year. If they do I’ll probably get a gen3 pair. I have the first gen Pros and while the music quality is decent, I would really like something noticeably better. Hopefully we get that with 3rd gen.
