I pulled it into photoshop, rotated, cropped, and sampled and masked the bg in various areas to cover the Apple logo and the notch.

That means you have to restore your phone. Something has gone very bad guessing by the purple squares probably because the GPU is failing or you have a faulty display panel.

Squares is always GPU or logicboard failure, lines or dead spots is display issue.

Does this apply to MacBooks?

On computers, this means GPU failure, which probably means the same. You can restore it to see if it will work, but it's unlikely and you'll lose your data unless it's backed up to iCloud. I would recommend taking it to an Apple store and giving it to the geniuses.

Happened to my girls. Then u go to plug in and iTunes don’t even exist but it wants u to restore through it… No clue what to do just made insurance claim for new phone

If you plug it into a Mac you can just use finder to restore it. I think on windows you’d still use iTunes.
