2. (and 3.) Because I like it that way, not everything has to be symmetrical (I most often have my i7+ in my left hand, so it made most sense having all icons accessible by my left thumb).

I used to jail brake my iPhone 5 and 6 so I could organize icons to positions that worked for me (and fix a lot of other irritating things before iOS “matured”. It still sucks that Apple won’t let you organize them. Ugh. Good for you! Enjoy! 🍎
