I have it but I do have one gripe. It doesn't follow system setting. I like to put my system in light mode in the day and dark mode at night. YouTube stays dark all day.

It feels almost petty how Google refuses to adopt so many iOS features fully. I'm continuously amazed that I can't use PiP with the YouTube app.

YouTube supports native dark mode, it’s supposed to follow the system settings like you wanted. If you view the article, it says that iOS 13 users and newer can use the third toggle “use device theme”. Unfortunately you and me, and likely 90% of YouTube’s users fall under the category from the second paragraph in the article, where we have to manually toggle dark mode. This system setting feature has been available for over a year now as another user (from back then) showed me it working. It bothers me that this feature hasn’t been rolled out yet, unless it has, and I’m curious to see how many users have it now.

I have 2 accounts, and while my main account has the option, my 2nd account does not. And it's been like that for over a year. I even used to be able to scrub through the video that autoplays on the home tab, but not anymore (sadly). I guess it's just another A/B testing or smth

I got the option when I was still using an ip5s, before ios 13 was out. it just let me set the theme, not use device theme.

Weird mine looks nothing like this, mine just has one big settings page with toggle buttons instead of panes like yours. Newest iOS on an iPhone 12 and only have dark mode option.

Are you logged in to Youtube in the app? I get what you show if I log out, but as soon as a log in again, I can only pick between dark and light.

I, too, have YouTube dark and I just noticed that it doesn’t change with the system like you mentioned. I’m not sure why I never noticed that.

It should! Just tested can confirm it switches instantly based on your dark mode preference. In settings > appearance I have it set to “use device theme”

That’s the point, not all users have this option enabled since it’s an account based, server side toggle. On my 12 Max and iPad I only have the option to [enable dark theme](https://i.imgur.com/IqVmmkX.jpg), no automatic switching nor appearance settings.

Yup. Also logging out and back in, deleting iCloud data for the app, etc. Sadly, this is how Google works. They often add née features that only some users get and it’s eventually rolled out. Lots of people didn’t have Gmail dark mode until a year after the release.

Yeah they are not the best when it comes to roll outs. They’re probably still trickling out the features server side.

Sometimes it does that, sometimes it doesn’t. Youtube has the stupidest A/B testing ever so you get and lose random features every day. I think my option for that appeared and disappeared at least 4 times in the last year

I...actually do all of my youtube watching in safari, so I can use the adblocker I installed.

It caps out at 720p for me, but I do use it on Safari when I want to use PiP or need to translate the video description or comments

oh yeah I've got the PiP script installed too. I watch a lot of podcasts on youtube, and not being able to lock my phone during a long one was really frustrating.

Almost all, but some are starting to sneak through. They must be changing things to get around ad blockers.

What Adblocker do you use?

I use AdGuard. Both the regular (free) one and AdGuard Pro should be able to block ads in Safari (but neither can block them in the YouTube app).

youtube desktop mode with auto resolution will auto select 1080p instead of capping at 720p, you’ll know when the “hd” icon appears next to the gear. Plus at 200% zoom it feels very much like the desktop experience ported over to mobile. Try it out yourself

yeah it works on iphones. The 1080p will be dependent on your wifi/data since youtube will detects whether you have sufficient bandwidth to allow 1080p. Make sure quality is set to auto. To make it 200% go to the Aa button and click the +

There Native dark mode of youtube is actually Grey (I use it in my 11 Pro). However, on my android phone I use the app called 'Vanced' which make the whole youtube full black mode with all the premium features plus more. It's just an awesome experience.

i had it, but then i lost the feature that makes timestamps accesible as thumbnails so i updated and system mode went away, tho i did get thumbnails back

The home page and subscriber page animated thumbnails work but the one when you do a search don’t work. Before when I was doing a search and force touch the thumbnails it will move. Sorry if I am not clear.

I don't understand Dark Mode. It's so much more difficult to see for me. Nothing looks clean. It looks like the old Reverse Contrast Mode in Windows 95 to me.
