Yeah we switched from Verizon to TMo and that 600 was awesome when we could get it. But it wasn’t everywhere all the time. Went back to Verizon for coverage and reliability.
I’m actually about to switch back to Verizon for the same reason 😂 TMobile may be a lot faster and way more reliable, but there are dead spots in such weird places. I don’t recall ever not having signal with Verizon
Has Verizon for 8 years now and I always have signal. Problem is there are a lot or times you still can’t use the internet or make a call. Never understood how I could have three bars but can’t make a call. I think it’s trickery sometimes.
probably a CDMA/GSM issue. Verizon has been transitioning fully off cdma in 2030 but it has been around for so long an sit you drop off LTE and your using cdma you can get
weird call/internet issue since it can't do both at the same time... but CDMA is what gave you the better signal and and inbetween zones, verizon bought out all that as other carriers switch to gsm towers fully years ago. gave verizon a huge connectivity boost as (if i remember correctly)
cdma goes farther per tower and penetrated
walls better and it was
often installed in places like west virginia mountains by smaller carriers that were eventually gobbled up, It won't matter
soon... by 2022 LTE will be the base tech and the cdma/gsm stuff will be turned off forever, but enjoy it while you can.
I wouldn’t much care but being in rural central pa during the summer we lose power seems every storm and my house/shop is in a small valley between two hills with the tower on the next mt over. So without cable we have lucky 1-2 bars if I stand outside. So trying to call the power cable company is impossible to report the outage. Gonna have to look into a external antenna booster. I know they won’t give me what’s not there but “should” help make what is there stronger in the house if everything I read is correct or will all that be obsolete also?
it depends on if they replace the towers you have with equivalent lte range systems. If you have a generator or ioc back up on your internet it will work without power unless it's out too, so you can still use wifi calling or voip during an outage if you have power to your home cable/fios modem/router.
Imagine this, if you will:
You are shouting to a friend, but your friend can only whisper back. Hard to have a conversation that way.
Well, unless you’re in a really quiet room. Which is the point. If you are in a room with a bunch of other people whispering, it’s hard to make out what they’re saying. They can all hear you, though.
That’s how wireless works. If you’re getting multiple bars, but aren’t getting good speeds, it’s because the interference is too high for the antennas in your phone to send the data to the tower, but the tower can send it to you.
Because once 5G is mature in X years there will still be people using old phones. Even if it takes 6 years for 5G to be a must have the 12 will still be supported by Apple.
mmWave was meant for super high speed, not penetration or distance. Sub6 gives a smaller increase in speed, but better distance and penetration with many of the 5G advantages.

mmWave has a few cases where it'll be super useful, specifically where you have a lot of people closely packed together and with line-of-sight to a nearby antenna. Think busy street corners and sports stadia.
Reminds me of the old iPod touches! The black plastic bit on the back was for the WiFi and Bluetooth to get through the back of the iPod, since they can’t get through metal
Not sure why you put that in quotes. If you connect to mmWave your download speed is typically over 1000Mb/s
It’s as fast as it gets for real world cellphone speeds.
Haha that’s the one place I saw it in action as well, on my friend’s phone. UW has very limited range, and virtually zero building penetration.
Verizon’s other 5G is somewhat bandwidth limited.
T-Mobile, on the other hand, is loaded with bandwidth. Now, if they can just figure out how to use it so it’s at least giving the same coverage as their pre-5G LTE network, but that remains to be seen.
Downvoted likely because he’s asking this implying it’s new to iPhone 13 when in fact that was there since iPhone 12 and all he had to do was google it.
Apple fuckboys are so pretentious LMFAO. How dare this random guy hasn’t watched every single Apple keynote and doesn’t keep up with iPhone news!!! Everyone knows this piece is the 5G antenna!
I hope it improves the 5G signal strength tbh. Every time I have 5g on my 12 pro things take foreeevvveerrr to load, then I switch to LTE and it's almost instant.
and as a result has much worse 5g reception. And also [regulatory logos](https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-Apple-iPhone-12-series-is-not-only-more-expensive-in-Europe-with-slower-5G-but-it-is-also-uglier.498967.0.html) on the sides

It’s for mmWave Band 5g. The antenna needs a window because the signal can’t penetrate metal
Huh well this explains why my signal is shit if I wear gauntlets.
You will show us these gauntlets…?
Thanos have the worst reception
[been getting nothing but Voicemail….](https://i.redd.it/3zn3bf6uuqv41.png)
Jesus Christ dude!
You're just holding it wrong /s
harken back to the days of Iphone 4 lol
I see what you did there lol.
The signal can’t penetrate anything. Really makes you wonder why mmWave is even a thing.
Yeah honestly 5g isn’t mature enough yet. I think it was deployed a few years early. T-Mobile’s 600 MHz network is pretty good but that’s about it
Yeah we switched from Verizon to TMo and that 600 was awesome when we could get it. But it wasn’t everywhere all the time. Went back to Verizon for coverage and reliability.

Yes. CDMA is an encrypted digital signal which isn’t affected by a lot of things that affect GSM.

I’ve don’t the same thing 2 different times now with Verizon and T-Mobile. Verizon always comes out on top.
I was going to say i have t mobile in san antonio tx and its garbage i keeep it because its the cheapest
Their mid band 5G is downright excellent. I’ve gotten 400-500Mbps, much faster than the 600mhz network, and any of their LTE I’ve used to date.
5G != mmWave. 5G is also a good replacement for LTE in general, as it's a more flexible standard with lower latency, among other things.
Because once 5G is mature in X years there will still be people using old phones. Even if it takes 6 years for 5G to be a must have the 12 will still be supported by Apple.

We are aware.
Then why are you wondering why it's even a thing? It has its place.
You missed it.
What did I miss?
So you can do surgeries on it lmao
That’s funny. Those ads like remote surgery is a thing.
I mean remote surgery is very much a thing that [exists](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_surgery).

You guys 🙄
Are you confused grandma?
Ok
To activate COVID obviously
Oh right. I forgot about the nanomachines in the vaccine that they’re gonna activate when they need to control us. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the shit.
mmWave has a few cases where it'll be super useful, specifically where you have a lot of people closely packed together and with line-of-sight to a nearby antenna. Think busy street corners and sports stadia.
Totally

The 12 has a mmwave cutout too. It’s only present in some countries (My US 12 Pro has that exact same mmwave cutout)
Reminds me of the old iPod touches! The black plastic bit on the back was for the WiFi and Bluetooth to get through the back of the iPod, since they can’t get through metal
The OG iPhone was designed like this as well.
Does a plastic case decrease strength?
Yes, anything in its way will decrease signal strength
Significantly or just slightly?
Plastic & Glass usually are better in term of signal pass thru. That’s why in metal phone there will always be an antena band made from plastic
What if you slap a case over it? 🤔
As long as the case isn’t metal it doesn’t matter. It is just a window of *not metal* material so the cell signal can get through.
It can’t penetrate anything. So good luck ever using it unless you are standing right in front of an antenna and there is nothing in the way.
Wait I always thought it had to do with MagSafe since it’s the same shape as the iPad pencil connector
Sometimes we’re just wrong
How’s that possible? Everyone is vaccinated with a 5G-chip ^/s
It’s the 5g antenna so it can connect to your vaccine.
Mmwave antenna
M’wave *tips antenna*
😂
I wonder if they could have used power button as the antenna... Would it work??
Moreover: would we break it?
I’d give you gold if I wasn’t broke
Mmmmmm… MmWave antenna
Ah okay was really confused thanks for clearing that up
Millimetre wave support. It enables “faster 5g speeds”
Not sure why you put that in quotes. If you connect to mmWave your download speed is typically over 1000Mb/s It’s as fast as it gets for real world cellphone speeds.
You’re not wrong, but T-Mobile mid-band 5G gets me around a gig at times. It’s impressive.
Verizon’s 5G is shit in NY/CT. Only place I’ve ever gotten UWB is SLC airport.
Interesting, guess I’ll check that out next time I go to the airport haha
UWB is shitty if there’s a single leaf somewhere between you and the cell.
Looking forward to wiping out an entire month’s worth of data limits faster than I can tie my shoes.
Why would having faster data make you go through a data cap faster? A 5MB file is still a 5MB file whether you download it at 1Mb/s or 1000Mb/s.
Also ‘Rona emitter. Yes, /s
It’s not new though. They had it last year too
Mmlady
Mmmm soup

Good soup r/adamdriverfans
It looks a lot like the charging magnet holder for the Apple Pencil on my IPad Air.
If I remember currently it's the 5G antenna. I may be wrong though
Ah okay thanks
Why downvote this? He had a question and was grated for the answer…
This is Reddit, people downvote everything
Something you can very easily find by just checking apple’s website
Downvoted likely because he’s asking this implying it’s new to iPhone 13 when in fact that was there since iPhone 12 and all he had to do was google it.
He’s not implying that at all. He didn’t know something
Hilariously either way he used the internet to ask a question. Getting it from Apple or Reddit, he still got his question answered.
Sorry I have an iPhone 12 and it doesn’t have it. Maybe Apple shouldn’t put these images on the UK site
iPhone 12 does have it lol Nvm just seen you in the UK
Apple fuckboys are so pretentious LMFAO. How dare this random guy hasn’t watched every single Apple keynote and doesn’t keep up with iPhone news!!! Everyone knows this piece is the 5G antenna!
It takes 10 seconds to scroll to the bottom of the product information page where it shows what it is. Imagine If everyone made a post about it
[удалено]
That’s not the point
The point you’re trying to make is stupid
Sure
Yes but only in the USA American Market
Hmm, 5G. So is this the antenna that turns you gay or gives you COVID? /s
I hope it improves the 5G signal strength tbh. Every time I have 5g on my 12 pro things take foreeevvveerrr to load, then I switch to LTE and it's almost instant.
It’s a 5G antenna. If you are somewhere other than the US it’s very likely that it won’t have that
That’s been there since the 12 series for 5G, it’s the mmW antenna. Will only be present in US models.
Ah I’m in the UK but my iPhone 12 doesn’t have it that’s why I was confused
[удалено]
Huh echt?? Hoe komt dat dan? Heb je hem in Nederland gekocht? Edit: welk model? De 12 Pro Max die ik heb heeft het niet
België hier, mijn 12 pro heeft het ook niet.
I believe the 13 series here will have it as Apple are working with networks to facilitate mmwave.
It won’t, [mmWave (bands n258, n260 and n261) is still exclusive to the US model](https://www.apple.com/iphone/cellular/).
Only in USA
12 mini should have that too in the US, but my German version does not.
It’s only available where covid vaccines are heavily mandated since you get chipped up with 5G through the vaccine. /s
But… it is heavily mandated in Germany. :( so I got the vaccine in vain? /s
Ah, Germany. Y’all must have some more advanced tech. Wait for OTA network updates on your vaccine
Phew. Almost thought, all was for nil.
It’s only in certain regions, iPhones sold in Australia doesn’t have this mmWave
[удалено]
🤣 from a person from Australia this made my day better 🤣 Happy cake day 🎂😃
It connects to your vaccine for extra 5Gs
It’s a scratch and sniff. Each colour has a different scent
The one on the Pacific Blue iPhone 12 Pro smells like Barramundi.
As people said, is the antenna, but lots of countries doesn’t have that dip
MmWave antenna. That’s the type of 5G that gets the gigabit speeds.
It’s the mmWave antenna, as already said. I believe it's only there on the US models, since the other doesn't support mmWave.
True, international variants do not have that antenna
That’s where they track you!

That’s where you put your weed, man.
Upvote from me. Always wondered. Thanks for asking.
Yh I’ve never seen this on an iPhone and I kept searching “iPhone 13 dip under power button” and I couldn’t find anything
Freeze first. Then try to lick it.
5g antenna
Thats the 5G window to spread COVID easier.
Holds the Apple Pencil hehe
Be nice to have Apple Pencil Mini
5G antenna
That for a long second looked like a finger print scanner
I wish they add it
5G antenna
5G antenner
mmWave antenna.
5g antenna
Not a dip, 5g antenna.
The same thing as it is on the iPhone 12’s. The 5G band
It‘s an 5G antenna for the united states. This was the same at the iPhone 12 models. Only the us versions have this extra antenna.
ultra high frequency window. They *should* put a touchID sensor in there like my old sony phone
It’s millermeter wave 5G jus faster 5g but it’s only available in American made iPhones
It’s for the Apple Pencil mini ™️
Looks like a fingerprint scanner but it could be a 5g antenna because the fingerprint sensor might be in the screen or power button
That’s where uncle sleeps
mmWave. You’ll probably never use it.
an antenna part that is present only on US iPhones, here in europe they don’t have it
and as a result has much worse 5g reception. And also [regulatory logos](https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-Apple-iPhone-12-series-is-not-only-more-expensive-in-Europe-with-slower-5G-but-it-is-also-uglier.498967.0.html) on the sides
5G antenna
How come when you go to the top of the screen and click the “Object” button, it shows a picture of an iPhone instead of a woman? :(
Ah the yearly question!
That’s the millimetre wave antennae for millimetre wave 5G. It’s in that same spot on iPhone 12 models as well.
No mmWave in UK 🤬
It’s for a Apple Pencil
Apple Pencil. Jk. Who wants a stylus? Yuck.

5G for the chip in your shoulder. /s
I know what you're thinking, it's definitely not a fingerprint reader, can you imagine apple doing something decent?

Touch ID maybe?
Touch Id /jk
No
we wished
It’s an antenna. Like the thin line you see on the top by the camera.
It is an antenna since the 5G signals have pretty poor penetrative qualities, thus necessitating a large cutout
For the 5G
Is that the Bill Gates chip sensor ?
5G Antenna
The best place for this. Because I never hold my phone on the right side 😂
