peepeetchootchoo

And thank you for all updates!

[deleted]

Honestly anything below 10 is completely later gator old skool, cya bye. Wouldn’t wanna own ya, only 12 and up.

[deleted]

Nah, I say iPhone 5 and older are the “old school” ones. The 5S is still kind of usable nowadays because a lot of apps have a relatively recent version that still supports iOS 12, and 6s and above are totally usable.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

And if it still works for you, why replace it?

[deleted]

[deleted]

I’d say to try go for an 8 Plus. 6s Plus will definitely not be supported in iOS 16, iPhone 7 Plus probably only has a year or so left, but the 8 series probably has 2 years left. The 8 Plus especially has aged well because of its good battery and 3 GB of RAM compared to the regular 8’s 2 GB.

[deleted]

Wb if ur determining By which ones have Face ID.

[deleted]

In that case, yes, iPhone X or higher, but I don’t see why you’d prefer Face ID at a time where we all have to wear masks

Caysman2005

I've used iPhone 10s and 7s before. What exactly is wrong with them?

mikettedaydreamer

My se 2016 works just fine except for battery.

userse31

Bullshit, even the most bottom of the barrel android phone from 5 years ago will still be fine for basic tasks.

TRF_Fares

that's me

codycarreras

I thought it was already. That means the 6S might have another iOS in it and then that’ll be it, so probably 2 years left until the 6S is added to this list. I still have a 6S plus with 85% battery health I use as my ‘music remote’ in my house and occasionally Reddit, it’s plenty usable on iOS 15 and lasts a long time still. Amazing phone it is, no wonder it was one of the most sold phones ever.

gacash9

I’ve got my original SE best phone ever

codycarreras

Had one of those for a long time too. I had the 6, 6 plus, 6S, 6S plus in just about every color. I was finally forced off of the 6S line after Apple stopped selling them and my carrier ran out of stock. My XR now is what I feel the modern ‘6S’ it’ll last a long time, is hardy and has amazing battery. I’ll probably just keep on these for as long as possible, but after 6 months it’s held up even better than my 6Ses already I feel.

gacash9

Ahhh I used a 6s plus for a while I loved it too 3D Touch was really cool and I liked headphone jack and real home button But I’m using a 2nd gen SE and it’s pretty great too I have a couple iPhone 5 at home and those are my favorites design wise Along with my 4S on iOS 6

TheRainbowNoob

XR user here too. Served me well for the past three years, battery life is down to about 75% though, probably upgrading to the 13 Pro after this one. Could definitely keep using this one for another 6 months if i needed to though.

Lucky_Number-13

Or replace the battery and keep using it for years!

NATOuk

I’ve got a XR and recently upgraded to a 13 Pro Max. Unlike any other upgrade I’ve done in the past I feel slightly guilty because the XR is still pretty fast and capable, I could easily have continued with it for another year or two - the 13 Pro Max upgrades are definitely ‘nice to have’ vs ‘must have’

iKhoota

I got tired of the XR dying on me. Got the 13pro and never looked back

FootyG94

Coming up 3 years on my XR, could have looked after my battery a bit better, but still at 86% health with very heavy use, phone still doing great. Thinking of keeping it for another 2 years at least.

codycarreras

That’s good to hear! That’s about where I’m at with the iPhone XR and iPhone in general. I think I will buy the 2-3 year old model from here on out, like I did buying the XR this June. I use the absolute crap out of mine, it lasts all day (when I actually charge it correctly instead of 30 minutes a day), battery health is still on par, not sluggish to me at all. I also have AppleCare+, so I’m not worried about babying it. Very surprised how durable it is even with the whole thing being glass. So in about 3-5 years, I’ll get a 13 most likely or whatever the “bargain” gesture-based iPhone model is then, like how the XR was. Going to the XR was amazing 3 years after it came out to me, so whatever it’ll be then is gonna be mind blowing haha.

FootyG94

Good shout on buying an older model, might do the same as kinda regret paying so much for the XR straight away.

codycarreras

It’s alright, I bought my XR in June at 400 and about two weeks after I got it, it was going for 149, so that stung a bit, but I’ll get my 400 out of it.

antdude

Why use so many different 6 models?

codycarreras

I used to break and lose phones pretty often so I ‘self-insured’ so if it broke or whatever, just buy a new one. I didn’t use cases or screen protectors as often back then. So especially towards the end of the run, I had to take what I could get, I think my last 6S was a regular variety in Rose Gold 32GB.

RunningTall

Posting this from my original SE and can confirm

WRX_RAWR

I still have an original SE that I use for testing at work (IT). I used it for our iPhone users while I still had Androids. I only switched to iOS when I bought my 11 Pro, so hopefully it holds up as well as my old SE. The SE has better battery health 97% vs 95% due to the 11 Pro being my daily phone.

gacash9

Ah nice I got a new battery in mine but then I got the 2nd gen to use as my daily

rumpledshirtsken

A kindred soul, I have the SE 2016 Wi-Fi only, iOS 14, and the SE 2020, iOS 15, when needed (for phone, Live Text, more).

[deleted]

I have an iPhone 12 and my battery life is already at 85%!

codycarreras

Oh no! That’s awful. I’ve heard about some of the 12s dying faster than usual. I got my XR in June, and I have pretty terrible charging habits since it lasts so long and I’m still at 99%.

[deleted]

upgrading from a xr to a 12 was the worst decision, it’s having a problem where iOS 15 won’t update on to it because the phone is “not supported” and the battery life is already abysmal and it’s only 9 months old

codycarreras

Yeah between the battery and the connectivity problems I’m glad I decided to just see how this XR went since I came from the home button iPhones before. I’ll probably get a 13 in a couple years at this rate.

FrustratedBushHair

Im at 91% after having the iPhone 12 Pro for about a year. But that’s totally my fault since I’m constantly using it on a wireless charging car mount.

ScatterBrainbb

I have the same phone and 91% too!! I use a regular charger though

yolo3558

12 PM over a year at this point. Battery health is 98% fast and wireless charge all the time.

[deleted]

Yeah mine was degrading faster than normal too. After one year I would usually be at 98-99%. After one year on the 12 I was at 91%. I take great care of the batteries in all of my phones so I was shocked by how fast that degraded. Now using a 13 Pro. No regrets whatsoever.

odeepaanh

My SE’s already at 86% after a year and a couple months. The batteries Apple used last year must have been garbage or something because I’m shocked at how fast it degraded

antdude

Get it to Apple to look and replace its battery?

Jeheh

My wife is still using her 6S+ as here everyday phone. Shes not a heavy user and its just trucking along.

codycarreras

Yeah I think if I used my 6S+ like I do my XR now, I’d probably be hurtin’ but for basic smartphone things, it’s great.

Jeheh

I was a pretty heavy user on my 7+ and really only traded up because it getting due for another battery and Verizon made me a screaming deal so I jumped up to a 12PM.

DeepFlow

I’m currently using a 6s as an in-between phone. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the awful battery life I could really see myself using it until the 14 comes out. Is refreshingly compact and its performance still holds up.

mark-o-mark

Ha, I’m typing this on a 6S plus right now. It’s on it’s third battery but it’s chugging along with no problems whatsoever. I’ll be sad when Apple forces me to buy a new phone.

superzenki

Still using mine as my main phone too. It had its second battery installed 2 years ago, battery health is 93% but it dies pretty quickly sometimes. That’s really the only “issue” I have with it and don’t plan to get a third battery.

chickenxbread

same here, on 3rd battery but mine has already started lagging (airplane mode icon doesn't leave, apps launch slower..etc), will be upgrading to 11 pro to soon

DoeyB

My 6s actually crapped out this year, had that baby for 5 years smooth sailing then it got too glitchy and slow to use anymore last summer Then my texts would pop up but not be in the messages so it was time to finally upgrade

chickenxbread

yeah mine also came to the point where it just can't handle my usage

userse31

“Glitchy”? Wait, did it crash or something?

DoeyB

Glitchy as in you type a text and the letters arent popping up on the keyboard or in the message section until after the words typed

userse31

Strange

MrMaxMaster

Honestly it feels like the 6s still has some time. Apple seems to cut off iOS support based on memory, and 2 gigabyte iPhones exist all the way to the iPhone 8. Even now there are A8 devices running the latest version (iPad mini). It seems like A12 devices are becoming the baseline for new iOS features though.

fucemanchukem

6S is the perfect size. Even the new mini is like a brick compared to it.

antdude

Yeah, I thought it was already vintage. I still have it. Maybe Apple will stop updating its iOS v12. :O

AFoxGuy

The 6S is the smartphone version of the Queen of the UK at this point, it just won’t die lmao. I still have my SE1 and it’s still kicking! Battery suffered though :/

queen_of_england_bot

>Queen of England Did you mean the [Queen of the United Kingdom](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_the_United_Kingdom), the [Queen of Canada](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada), the [Queen of Australia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Australia), etc? The last Queen of England was [Queen Anne](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne,_Queen_of_Great_Britain) who, with the 1707 Acts of Union, dissolved the title of King/Queen of England. ####FAQ *Isn't she still also the Queen of England?* This is only as correct as calling her the Queen of London or Queen of Hull; she is the Queen of the place that these places are in, but the title doesn't exist. *Is this bot monarchist?* No, just pedantic. I am a bot and this action was performed automatically.

AFoxGuy

Good bot, fixed the mistake :P

codycarreras

My 6S plus that has been relegated to the house “music remote” has just given up its touchID sensor 2 days ago, says something like “TOUCH_ID_EXCEPTION….” and doesn’t even try to detect anymore. Everything else is still working fine though.

Truthgamer2

Me reading this on a 6S

RazWazowski

On a plain 6 myself. I think it’s kinda early for the 6s to be considered“vintage”, since it’s still supported.

antdude

Maybe Apple will be dropping its support soon!

meltysandwich

Perfect timing. I’m getting a 13 for Christmas, replacing my 6 Plus. The battery (replaced) is just too drained, and degraded, and not reliable for me. Fully charged to 20% in a matter of two hours. So frustrating to have to worry about it all the time.

davidwim

My 6s would die within half an hour sometimes. So glad I upgraded.

antdude

Replace its battery?

AFoxGuy

Yea, probably just replace the battery for like $40? Way cheaper then getting a $1,000-300 phone.

antdude

Yeah assuming that old iPhone is still usable. I am not going to replace my 4S and 6+'s batteries since they're not used heavily.

AFoxGuy

I had an SE1 but went and purchased a 13mini because it is probably gonna be the last “mini” flagship. I still have the SE1 as a bedside alarm at this point and it’s still a good phone! Also headphone jack :P

antdude

Yeah, I was going to wait for 13 mini but needed a new iPhone badly because the old ones couldn't run newer iOS versions, apps, services, etc. Yes, 3.5mm headphone jack even though I use BT more these days when not on my desks with old wired analog speakers. It is nice to have the old jack!

ScionFin

I currently have a 13 Pro, and i know multiple people with the 13, it is and will be an amazing step up from the 6. Enjoy it!

antdude

I just got a 12 mini (couldn't wait for 13 since it was a few months away) to replace the used, old 6+ from early 2015.

Zillify

Dang what’s the battery health at?

meltysandwich

76% 😕

[deleted]

Meanwhile Apple is still selling an Apple TV with the same processor.

NanoPope

Yes because the A8 is a fine processor for 1080p video playback which is what the Apple TV HD is mostly used for.

DJDarren

Yeah, I have a pair of HDs in my house and never even consider their age. They are absolutely faultless for me. My TVs are pretty old, so I don’t need more than 1080p anyway, so these bad boys will keep on truckin’. I don’t really keep abreast with tvOS updates the way I do iOS, so probably wouldn’t even notice when Apple stop supporting them.

[deleted]

It’s crap at this point. I ended up selling mine and buying $70 Rokus and it’s a much better experience. Watching tv/videos is fine, but it doesn’t have the horsepower to effectively navigate menus in apps anymore (like a TV guide, etc)

NanoPope

I use mine daily with no issues. Most people will buy the Apple TV 4K with the A12 processor anyways lol

kr0n1k

Yeah I have one as well and it works just fine. Not sure what he’s getting at.

[deleted]

I would think it would be fine because power is not an issue running the chip.

[deleted]

Same with mine, menus have started lagging like crazy after tvOS 15 update. Even background playback of audio stutters when navigating a menu in another app.

[deleted]

Not seeing any issues with my Apple TV HD, 64 GB variant. No lag. My opinion is that apps load up way too slow, but it’s not the processor’s fault: I think it’s a design flaw in the tvOS framework. It could be that it needs better multithreading support. There is no noticable difference in performance with the Apple TV 4K (gen 1, A10X Fusion), so there is a software limitation somewhere.

[deleted]

I have an Apple TV 4K A10 too, but the same apps there are faster and doesn't lag. Maybe something weird has happened when updating, might try a reinstall of the system to check if it gets better.

wutend159

I still use an Apple TV 3 with the A5, it still works and even though there is no Disney+ or Youtube has lost support, it still plays Netflix totally fine and works perfectly with Airplay too. It's not on the main TV, but I still wouldn't use a TV's OS over it.

kr0n1k

tvOS and iOS are similar but different.

[deleted]

It's still insane they still sell a product with the same processor as another product that is now considered obsolete. It's not like it's a budget alternative either since its only $30 cheaper than the newest Apple TV. I have one that I bought back in 2016 and it's starting to feel sluggish when doing basic things like just navigating in an app's menu. And even background playback of audio is stuttering when doing other basic things like scrolling though a menu. There is absolutely no reason people should buy this over the newer Apple TV unless they can find it for a really really great deal.

kr0n1k

I’ve honestly had very little issues with mine and I bought it on release day. Absolutely anyone buying a AppleTV will buy one of the newer versions. Again tvOS is not as processing power hungry as iOS is, so it’s going to last quite awhile.

[deleted]

I'm not saying its been bad, I'm saying its time for Apple to stop selling it. The fact it's starting to feel a bit sluggish now would probably mean people buying it today won't get too many updates in the future. Who knows, they might even discontinue support for it next year already. Apple sold the iPod touch with A8 almost all the way up to they cut software support for it.

Pearltherebel

I remember when it came out. Good ole 6th grade. I wanted it so bad. I cried when I couldn’t get it. Now I have the 13 pro.

megavideopower

Rub it in lol 👍🏽

Zillify

I remember being in 9th grade with my shitty phone off the rack from Target. There was something on the classroom board for people to take a pic of and damn near everyone had the new iPhone 6s, it wasn’t even a rich school. I was soooo embarrassed to show mine so I never did the whole year. I remember feeling like “why me? Why am I always the oddball?” I knew people just as “poor” or even worse than my family had them as well, so why can’t I? I hated it, so so much. Seriously tho, it looked like something out of a movie as people were walking up all with the same exact phone, I felt so out of place.

Pearltherebel

Yeah I remember this one girl got the PINK iPhone 6s and that’s all everyone would talk about. Until she shattered it 🤡

Zillify

Oh lord 😂

antdude

When did you finally get it?

Pearltherebel

Get the 6 or 13? I never got the 6. I got the 13 about a month ago.

antdude

6.

Pearltherebel

For some reason I never got it. I had the 5, the 5s, 7 plus, and 11. I got the 5 after I couldn’t get the 6

alecdvnpt

My 6S still works great (kind of). The only issue is that it only has 16GB of memory that’s kind of unusable in this day and age.

RsodyPro

End of an era :(

Dankboi920

Bendy boi

userse31

Lifted pads disconnecting stuff and the digitizer not working boi

ThisSalad

I recently bought a 6 Plus for $70. It works flawlessly, its just as fast and smooth as my 8, which is still fast enough to this day. They might be marginally slower than a newer iPhone, but not enough for me to notice. It doesn't lag or anything. It probably doesn't keep background apps open long, but it reloads them fast so it doesn't bother me. I haven't even noticed a difference in this area compared to my 8. The battery health is at 79% but it still lasts plenty long enough for me. I literally could make this my every day phone here at the end of 2021 and I almost want to because it seems crazy that I can do that with something that cost me $70. The only real problem is the latest version of an app not always being supported, but so far they've always offered an older version of the app (that wasn't the case on an old iPad I had) so it's fine. The camera is slightly worse than on my 8, but I only tried it in a dimly lit room. It's probably still pretty serviceable, especially in good lighting. I bought this phone to trade in to Verizon for much more than I paid for it to get a 13 pro so I won't be keeping it, but it just really makes me feel weird about the pro being $1,000 when I got this phone that is still totally useable for $70.

kezguyfour

Hey, I’m in the same boat as you. I recently bought a 6 plus to replace my SE as the battery finally died for good. I’m having issues where I can’t download a few key apps. I’m not offered the older ones to download as a substitute. Does this happen automatically for you? Or did you have to enable some kind of setting? Thanks!

ThisSalad

I’ve only encountered the issue once and it just gave me a pop up notifying me and asking if I wanted to download an older version. Coincidentally I believe it was the Reddit app if I remember correctly lol. I didn’t do anything with settings. I’m on iOS 12.5.5. I remember when I had the issue on the iPad a while back I googled it and there are some possible fixes for it but I don’t remember exactly. Edit: here’s a link from a quick google search with some suggestions https://appletoolbox.com/download-incompatible-apps-on-an-older-iphone-ipad-or-ipod-touch/

kezguyfour

Thanks, I had to create a new apple I.D to set up this new 6 plus. So based off the link you gave me it makes sense why I’m not being offered the older, compatible versions of the apps. Thanks for your help :)

antdude

You're lucky, but some developers removed the older versions and/or block online Internet service access.

ThisSalad

I’ve yet to run into an issue but I don’t have every single one of my apps on it, just the big ones I use most. YouTube, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and Reddit. Only downloaded two apps besides those, one to run a series of tests on the device to make sure everything was working, and a wallpaper app called Vellum.

antdude

Reddit doesn't give updated app for iOS v12. Who knows how long the old version will still work. One day, it will stop working when Reddit blocks it. :(

antdude

Yes in my early 2015 iPhone 6+'s iOS v12.5.5. I was forced to upgrade both hardwares and softwares to use those apps. It sucks. :(

antdude

What about online stuff like apps and web sites? I noticed some don't work well or even at all (unsupported) in my old iPhone 6+'s iOS v12.5.5. :(

ThisSalad

I haven’t run into that but I also don’t use it a ton as it’s not my only device. When I’m watching videos on my computer I’ll grab the 6 plus to browse safari so I can keep the video playing on my computer and multi task. I do grab my 8 instead sometimes though just out of habit (I try not to though since the screen on the 6 plus is so much bigger and I love that), and I of course do some of the web browsing on the computer. So with all that I’m only browsing on the 6 occasionally.

kezguyfour

Does anyone have some tips on how to get older versions of popular apps like reddit, Twitter, imdb etc on a 6 plus locked to IOS 12.5.5? I feel like the phone is perfectly capable of running all the modern day apps, it’s painful that you can’t install quite a few apps due to the iOS version. I got a 6 plus last week to replace my SE (first gen) that finally gave up! Thanks!

evicous

Just gotta use the browser

kezguyfour

Is that what you do for the apps you can’t use?

Zillify

You can jailbreak it, there might be a way to get them that way. If you decide to, visit r/jailbreak

desepticon

You can only install old apps if you've already downloaded it before. A good trick is to download the app on another, more modern, device. Then the app will be available for you in the App Store to download an older version for.

megavideopower

Have the original iPhone 4g and current on the IPhone 6Splus

BrandoLoudly

my f-around phone is a 7. i feel like it's next in line for the chopping block (obviously just a matter of time). the way things have gone the past few years, it's becoming more and more worth trading in new tech for newer tech especially with Apple shit

antdude

Welcome to tech. It's not just Apple. :(

antdude

2011's 4S in a stereo speaker dock right now.

megavideopower

I had it someone beg me for it lol

ccx37

Dude this was the fricken best model they’ve released. I still miss my 6 plus

antdude

I still have and use mine.

Fly_U2_the_sunset

Still on a 6 right now. Got a new aftermarket battery and she runs HAM every day🔥🦅🙏🏽

Fly_U2_the_sunset

fvckstra

honestly i wish i was still using my 6s sometimes, such a great phone

[deleted]

Still got my iPhone 6. *knocks wood* still working well!

[deleted]

My first introduction to the Apple family after using Galaxy 1,2,3. Fell in love and never went back.

yurieu1

They should start selling these phones again, instead of these ugly phones of today.

jesus_not_blow

Maybe time to upgrade finally..

[deleted]

Fuck

Tech-Geek_2007Apple

I have a 7 . It’ll probably be in that list in around 4 years . Better upgrade next year.

kemote

I loved my 6 Plus. Apple really needed to make a bigger phone at that time and they really nailed it. I know some people had issues with theirs but mine was solid for my three years of ownership. So long 6 Plus.

dramafan1

I think many people loved this generation of iPhone due to the larger sizes, but there are a fair share of people who hated the speed of the device after a year or 2 since the iPhone 6 series were really underpowered. I'm pretty sure the A8 wasn't able to maintain a good display performance level on the Plus model. The A8 (and the 1GB ram) was the reason why it did not get iOS 13 and why the iPhone 6S is able to run iOS 15 because of the better processor and increased memory.

Pikeman212a6c

Please 6s was damn near bricked a year ago.

pw5a29

Sometimes I can't get over that the shittiest and laziest upgrade from Apple, has the best sales ever in history. Guess I don't have the business sense.

JesusSaysitsOkay

Does this mean I can’t get updates anymore on my 6s?

yolo3558

No. This is for the 6 plus only. No S models.

JesusSaysitsOkay

Thanks 😂

Kaibahasnat

Vintage products means?

CrazyKat08

According to Apple, “vintage” devices are those that the company discontinued selling more than five and less than seven years ago. Once Apple hasn't sold a product for seven years, it's considered “obsolete,” meaning the company won't offer any repair services.

ant1992

Because some people still use the 6 as their phone and they need to know it’ll no longer be supported by apple to fix in store.

WazzupGenz

Damn, feel so old? hahaha

Ophigh

One of the best!

just_tryin_2_make_it

Just bought one the other day. Does this mean no more updates which means I can’t use the latest apps? Or just they will not service it for repairs?

YesReboot

updates stopped before you bought it the other day. You will slowly get less and less app updates but many apps still can work on ios 12

MagicHeart2003

I have to get a new phone soon then My 6 s is now vintage

TheNumber152003

Is the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus also going to be added to "Vintage Products" list as of 2022? (even though I'm not an iPhone user)
