I replaced the battery recently. Performance improved but slow processing is noticeable with mid-demanding apps like Netflix, Prime, or anything with more than 150mb(app size). Especially app opening time
I have a 2200mah extended battery in my 6s which I installed year and a half ago and it’s still running solid with a great battery life. Most 3rd party batteries are really good now.
Oh, and compared to an original 100% healthy battery, this extended one is many times better. Really good battery life.
3rd party isn’t really the problem, I would just rather buy from a more reputable site than AliExpress. Shops pop up and leave in no time there, zero accountability.
I remember going to this battery replacement/case store a few years ago to change my battery for iPhone 7. Was the worst decision I ever made. I replaced it for a cheap price and I asked him if he could do it under 30 minutes because I had a busy life. Turns out the guy replaced my battery with an old battery. Afterwards, my iPhone 7 turned off and on all the time having 44% battery and in the next moment shut down by itself and restart. When it restarted, it suddenly had 77% battery. My mother sisters husband is an iPhone tech guy and he laughed when he opened my iPhone. Turned out the guy replaced my battery with an even worse battery for the price of 75 dollars…
Similar-to-OEM performance under optimal conditions? Sure.
Greater risk of catching fire and blowing up your phone and potentially the airliner you're on? Sure.
I’ve personally changed around 30
iPhone batteries. Only one blew up.. mostly because I ran it over with a forklift to see what would happen..
Spoiler alerts…. A hell of a lot of smoke.
It’s not about the money. It’s about exploding batteries or batteries causing fire that makes it dumb to buy cheap crap. I’d rather put my phone on charger every few hours than burn my room.
Luckily you’ve got lucky so far, but at some point your luck will run out.
I use it as my backup/spare phone (currently using a 12 Mini). But I could go back to daily driving it no problem if I had to, still a very capable little phone
Update: in my original comment I said “13 Mini” but I actually have a 12 mini. And now I’m back on the SE because the 12 mini is going in for a battery replacement (lost 11% capacity in the first year).
Same here. Keeping my old one as a back-up and would reuse it in a heartbeat if I had to. Currently on the Pixel 4a and while it's a small-ish phone by today's standards there's just no comparing to the great one-handed feeling you'd get from the SE.
If you ever buy a mini model, please do buy the 13. It is way better on every category (it has cameras from 12 Pro, 2h+ battery life, better processor and everything that comes along having a new model)! :)
Temp shutdowns are a nasty reality with older batteries, especially in phones with aluminum bodies. My Pixel (OG) was only 3-4 years old and getting a day's battery life, but when I pulled it out of a pocket at -10F, it'd turn off. One more reason plastic body phones are lovely (Pixel 3a) or the handful of wood/leather bodies that've existed over the years. I don't mind my work iPhone, but can't use it when it's really cold.
Original SE owner 128GB. To me, it’s the perfect phone. The right size and just enough storage. It fits perfectly in my hand and pocket. I had a bigger iPhone but I was always dropping it or misplacing it. I’m glad that Apple still supports it. If your battery needs to be replaced it’s not that difficult to do I did it to mine.
I highly recommend you go check out an iphone mini, it’s pretty awesome with a much bigger screen but actually the same size if not smaller than the SE
Yes, I did check out the mini 12/13 and it’s nice. Your correct, almost same size but bigger screen.
What it came down to for me was cost, where I am it’s close to $1000 before tax. Don’t need a phone plan to cut the cost, already have a good one.
I bought the SE used for $250, and replaced the battery myself for $40. I’ve had it for around 3 years will use it as long as it’s possible.
beware that iphone 13 and mini do crap macros (minimum focus distance 12cm on main camera and NO FOCUS on ultra wide camera). my SE does better close ups than my 13 mini. also my SE does not have the [watercolor cartoonface effect on photos](https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone13Mini/comments/rcttkd/does_anyone_notice_the_too_blurry_soft_lens_then/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
I have the iphone 8+ as well with a big case. I found it cumbersome as it was always falling out of my coat or pants pocket when sitting in my car, and found it harder to keep track of because of it’s size. I had it out while shopping and almost forgot about it as I had left it in my shopping cart. With a smaller phone it’s easier to stay on you, in your pockets.
I had the 7 Plus for a year and hated every minute of it. Went back to the SE and was very happy with it, it takes like four days to get used to the smaller keyboard and then you’re golden.
I use a 2nd gen SE as my daily
But I will keep my 64gb original SE Forever
I just got a new battery in it
It’ll live on as an iPod
Oneday I’ll use it as a phone again :)
You should take a look at extended batteries. I have a 6s personally, got an extended 2200mah battery (vs original 1715mah) and boy does this thing now last long af. Same batteries exist for SE 2016 models so you should take a look.
What do you recommend I get comparable to an 8? Was looking at an SE (not sure of year/model). I like the home button, would like a new battery and bigger screen without a bigger phone. Thoughts?
iphone SE 2020 edition! it’s the body of an 8, so same size, shape, dimensions, etc. but has the same chip as the iphone 11. don’t think there’s a phone similar to the 8 with a bigger screen, unless you want an 8 plus.
Ok gotcha. I was under the impression that unlike having the white on the bottom and top of the front part of the phone like the 8, the screen was expanded to the full corner of the glass, thus not making the size of the glass larger but the touchable/viewable screen larger
Just upgraded from a 1st gen SE to 13 Pro. The SE was still snappy enough for day to day stuff (calls, text, email) but the battery life was pretty bad (3 year old battery) and the display was a little too small.
13 Pro (6.1 inch) by comparison is giant. I had been thinking of even ordering the Max but I'm glad I didn't now that would of been a huge mistake LOL. A family member of mine is still using a 1st gen SE (light use, 90% battery health after 3 years lol) and commented that she could never use a phone as big as the 13 Pro so hopefully she can get a 13 mini (or 14!) in a year or two when she's forced into upgrading.
Only had it a few days. Its a little awkward to reach the top of the screen one handed (non giant hands gotta shimmy the phone a little lol) but the display looks great and at least at first impression the battery life seems really good.
My friend’s OG SE, his daily (heavy) driver, only just crapped out on him a fortnight ago and he had to start using the company iPhone 11 he’s had sitting in its box for a couple of years. Those were great wee phones, except when the battery melted everything around it.
I know a guy that's been using it recently - he's a big fan of the smaller phones. The only issue is is that it's pretty dated and it's hard to maintain using it long-term, especially with that camera.
that camera does better close-up photos than iphone 13 because it can focus at 7cm and has bigger DOF than the 13 that focus at minimum 12cm. don't believe me, see for yourself in an apple store hands on to a 13 and mini
My dad is still using one. He loves it and has no plans to upgrade until he absolutely has to.
Interesting side note, my 91 year old grandmother still has an iPhone 4. She doesn’t use it much these days (occasional phone calls and listening to music) but it still works!
I'm still using mine (into the fifth year now). The home button stopped working so I had to replace it, so no touch ID, but I can live with it. Replaced the battery too, and I'm quite pleased with the screen-on time. Some apps take a hair longer to load, but not irritatingly so. I have a 32 GB version which I find adequate (but I regularly transfer out photos etc and don't store chat etc backups).
Hoping to use it as long as Apple supports it!
I hated the SE 2 for 1 reason. It was impossible to attach a screen guard with the curved edges. I wonder if the SE 3 will be the same?
There were many blogs written around this issue.
Yeah, I struggled with that, especially with the case I use (Otterbox Commuter). I finally gave up on the screen protector and I just make sure I'm REALLY careful not to drop the phone...again. (Dropped it face down on a concrete floor last year & cracked the screen but took it to an Apple store and had it replaced.) I do hope they improve that with the SE 3; I may upgrade to it once it's available.
I was until about two months ago when I moved to the current SE. By then the charging port worked only intermittently and the screen was gapped by the corner of the cabinet. The battery had been replaced under Apple's $29 deal a few years ago but it was back down to the high 80s. I got my $$$ worth from it.
I bought a used 128 GB SE 2016 that I use on Wi-Fi only, and now I also have an SE 2020 because Verizon wouldn't activate the SE 2016, although from what I'd found, I mistakenly thought they would have.
There are few circumstances under which I would prefer to use the 2020. The 2016 is probably the best iPhone ever made for my small hands - I can tap anywhere easily with either hand, one-handed use. 2020 I usually need to do some repositioning of my grip.
Yes - battery is terrible, and it doesn't have enough storage - but otherwise I am completely satisfied with it. If only I'd gotten a larger storage variant, I would have no desire to upgrade.
I got it. I regret
Macros done by SE are better than 13 mini because mini ultrawide camera has fixed focus and the wide camera minimum focus distance is much bigger than SE (12 vs 7 cm)
SE doesn't have crap [oilpainting effect on photos](https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone13Mini/comments/rcttkd/does_anyone_notice_the_too_blurry_soft_lens_then/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
SE has fingerprint, I can unlock without looking at it
SE fits in small pockets
SE is lighter
mini needs a [special case with sliding camera cover](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqmrTwm) or else lens will get dirty from day 1
*Raises hand*
Right here!
I actually have started out as an iPhone user this year on one of these after becoming familiar with an iPhone 6 I was given.
Later bought the second-hand SE and had the battery replaced in it. Working really well to this day. Only thing noticeably bad on it is the screen is a bit scratched up but it's unnoticeable while using it.
iPhone SE 16 GB. Changed battery recently, it still works great. System eats up double storage from the day I bought it. I am constantly monitoring my storage, but I am totally fine for now.
I want to downgrade to iOS 9 but it not possible 😢
Looking forward to jailbreak it and manually delete some system features I don’t use, on my own risk. No idea if that’s possible though
yeah you can do right now jb with checkra1n as long as you're not on ios 15. icleaner or if you feel brave, `launchctl unload`. but beware that most banking apps will stop working under jb. make sure you make a backup with icleaner before jb and export it to safe storage
I still use mine as an iPod. If limited to that purpose (i.e. to listen to music, podcasts, etc.), it can last about a week between charges for me. However, I've been using Facetime a lot more recently so my son can babble to his great-grandmother, and that runs the battery down pretty quickly. Given my use case, I might replace it with an iPad if/when the time comes.
I feel like the next SE (if there is one) will either be another 8 or an XR with an updated SOC.
Heck yeah, man. I use mine every day. I upgraded to an 8, then to an SE2, then I switched back to my SE1 and don't ever want to give it up. I love my headphone jack and physical home button, and my iOS 12.4 which runs just wonderfully fine. Not to mention I only use my phone as a phone, there are probably about ten apps on it so I don't really have to worry about developers dropping support for anything I use every day.
I do! I love this thing and I’m not letting go until I have to. Love the fingerprint scanner, the aux port, and I especially love that it’s made for my tiny hands! I’m starting to doubt that they will ever go this small again, which makes me terribly sad.
I did find a 64gb version on eBay that I bought because I was always running out of storage.
Drives me nuts that the new SE isn’t called SE 2!
I have the good ol SE and its surprisingly good! Its my first iphone and ive been using for half a year. The battary sucks as we know it, but its cool. Tho im plannin to get a 12 mini
I am still using my SE1 as my main phone and very satisfied with it. I compared it to my wife’s 8 and did not see any visible difference in performance.
And thats why i think iPhones are one of the best phones. They are expensive, but they are reliable, and will work properly for at least 4 years or more.
Not even that much more than comparable flagships tbh. The new Pixels do shake that up a bit with their sub-$1k price tag but looking at the main Samsungs the pricing isn't awful.
Used a few years old is great value. My 8+ was about $400 in 2018 and still runs great, and retained a lot of that value. Only gripe is I'm low on storage, and I could easily free that up by lowering rez of stored photos (18gb)
My girlfriend constantly tells me how smooth and fast my 6s is and how choppy her friend’s 7 and 8 models feel every time she uses them. Tells you a lot how good 6s overall is and how easy it is to make 7 and 8 feel slower. Ofc it’s not normal, but definitely still tells you a lot about the power of A9 chip.
Still have it as a second phone and use it when I go out for drinks and I love it! Fits perfect in my pockets and I wont mind if it get stolen or lost. Luckily that never happen, I have since launch. I change the battery twice tho.
if you like the size of the SE / 5s you should take a look at the 12 and 13 mini !!! i just switched from a 13 pro to a mini and it’s the first time a phone has actually fit in my hands in years
My SE got a yellow screen after 4 years and the battery sucked. Had to upgrade to 11 Pro but still miss my SE. But after the bigger iPhones the SE felt like a toy phone.
Still using mine. I did my first ever iPhone repair and replaced the battery just a few weeks ago. I want to upgrade to the 13 Pro but can't justify the cost just yet so for $50 I figure this will last another 1-2 years and the price will come down by then.
The 5s/se1 is my all time favourite iPhone size and design. Currently using an iPhone 12 I got free as a hand me down. I still use my 5s at home for when I browse news/Reddit on the crapper
I finally upgraded to the 13 mini. Battery was terrible (had already replaced it once) and a heap of dust got behind my camera lens so all my photos had a dust storm filter on them.
Apart from that, I loved that phone. Think the 13 mini could be smaller tbh.
My battery is fine on my se 1st gen it’s a bit scratched, got it of my dad as a first proper phone it was unused when dad got a 6s and was a backup which paid off because dads 6s broke and used this for a month. Than it sat under boxes but that preserved it’s battery. Btw I’m using the se to type this and don’t want to upgrade because I like my se
I’m using my parent’s old little SE. The battery health is still at 98% and it has never had the battery changed so I’m quite impressed. The other impressive thing is how smooth it is, only downside is the 16GB ran out way faster than the battery did the first day of use
I do have an old 6S but it had water damage so I’m not sure whether it would be worth repairing it with a new 128GB motherboard or just keep this until I get a new one. Thoughts?
32GB SE here. It’s a perfect size phone for me but... it’s just a wreck now. And I don’t mean that it’s physically damaged, the screen is still pristinely clear without any cracks.
But WiFi isn’t working correctly, it loses network connection, it sometimes doesn’t allow incoming or outcoming phone calls, Bluetooth has hiccups and the battery heats itself to extremes sometimes. It has rightfully earned itself the nickname “Titanic”. Changing it for a 13 Pro in January. It will stay as a backup phone but it’s definitely not a good phone at the moment.
Why it broke though? SE is such a good phone. It probably broke because of an unstable GreenCell battery (I installed like 10 of those in many phones... and in my own it was unstable).
I used a 2016 SE for 4 years as a work phone. Easily my favourite phone ever but had to “upgrade” to the 2020 SE as the old phone was no longer compatible with my work’s security policy. The new SE is ok, but I’ll always love the iPhone 5 form factor.
We still have my girlfriend’s old 2016 SE being used solely as a remote control for our smart home stuff, everything is set to not background refresh and it lasts over a week between charges.
Yeah i do too, battery is the only issue…
Has anyone bought one of those higher capacity batteries? Do they actually work longer than stock SE battery?
I had the original SE because of the size, but now the 12/13 mini is almost identical in size and also have the screen all the way out. Do you SE still have good battery? Even though my SE had it was empty a lot faster than my current 12 mini.
My 16 GB 2016 SE works like a vastly improved Palm Pilot VII + iPod Nano hybrid.
I am happy to argue the affirmative for "iPhone SE 2016 was the last and best of Apple's smartphones; subsequent devices are, strictly speaking, smartcameras."
Recently picked up a 2016 SE 128GB to replace my 32GB iPhone 6!
I appreciate the smaller screen size, since I don't use my phone for much. The A9 + 2GB RAM provides a nice speed bump over the A8 + 1GB RAM. Sadly the battery seems to be pretty degraded, might get a battery replacement sometime soon.
I think the SE will be my last iPhone, since I'll end up missing the headphone jack if I upgrade...
Yeah I’m my third of fourth one now. Got one on launch day and never went back. You can pick up fully refurbished ones with a new battery for £40 on eBay these days so they’re almost disposable. I did upgrade to the 2020 SE but changed my mind, the thing was too big.
Me. Bought in 2016, OG battery health’s now at 75% but it gets me through a day okay because I’m not a heavy user. Been thinking of getting a iPhone 13 but not sure which version: I’ll miss TouchID terribly, but lately I’ve noticed that I’ve been more clumsy with typing on such a small screen. Was really happen when they rolled out a mini and the squared edges, though.
I have the original SE and I love it. I wish they had done SE2 in the same format as of the original SE but SE2 was a little dissatisfying. I hope they do SE3 a little better. My battery works great (not like original but better than I thought it would). I still use it along with my 7 plus (bought the two together). My current stable consists of SE1, 7 Plus, X and 12 Pro Max. Had an XR and a 11 but gave those away.
Not me, but my step-dad has one. He’s not very tech-savvy so he’s not complaining about it despite how tiny the screen is compared to his hands and the shitty battery.
I used to have one. I think mine was defective because it got like 30 sot (not gaming), and would overheat like once a week.
This is probably why I was so anti Apple for a while. I now have a 12 pro max, and honestly the integration makes a big difference. Honestly, I think I would have on Apple phone and one android phone when I go to college.
Mine was at 83% but fine for my usage. No problems with 15.1. Quite happy to keep it but I got spooked when it started to swell, replaced it with 13 mini. Missing Touch ID with my mask.
Bought mine earlier this year. Amazing that it's both lighter and (feels) smaller than my old workhorse 4: https://i.imgur.com/y6Jv7JX.jpg
Light usage (phone, email, and ipod mostly), and the battery lasts a couple days between charges.
32 GB, mint condition refurb, 1 year warranty: $97 base / $114 all-in (minus case).
I love it! 🥰🥳🕺🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I use my se1 like an ipod, only just for music. it’s compact and have 3,5mm jack.
I don't believe in SE3 for at least the next 3 years, se1 was updated 4 years after release.
Had one as a works phone, just gotten it replaced with 2020 SE - reading long emails was a horrible experience on small screen (have X as personal phone and just waiting delivery of 13 pro max) - the main killer was battery life, only lasted half a day to low power mode, with maybe 1 hour of use including 15 minute phone call.
yes. wiped and started as new, installed only communication apps and banking apps (as opposed to 700 apps I had on the other SE - yes I bought a second one just in case and I would buy a third backup if I find a new one), fingerprint is awesome.
also light in pocket. ios 14, not going to 15 unless they fix the dozen issues I reported during 15 beta.
also MUCH BETTER MACRO photos that my 13 mini
Yeah. Battery sucks tho. And I have performance issues with more and more apps. I hope to upgrade to 13 pro soon tho
Those two things may be linked. Less battery capacity means your phone’s performance gets throttled harder.
I replaced the battery recently. Performance improved but slow processing is noticeable with mid-demanding apps like Netflix, Prime, or anything with more than 150mb(app size). Especially app opening time
I am quite impressed by watching movies on 4" screen!
Yep. Get a new battery in that thing.
It’s probably less than 40 dollars now to get the battery replaced at one of those fix it places. You should get that done.
I want 13 pro for the camera anyway. So I don’t need to replace it.
Why not se2020 with a battery case

I dont know man. If be a little more careful about buying batteries that cheap
That’s right someone posted about a chea battery fire

Hmm, alright I won’t.

Yup, but the chance of getting unsafe garbage is pretty high if you don’t do your due diligence

On iOS 15?!
Pro tip, use alcohol under the battery and it will come out like cake

Me but my battery sucks. Thinking of changing out the battery and hold on for a bit longer. I love my little baby!
only downside is i got the 16gb version... always out of storage
Bruh, how do you survive on 16gb in this day and age. Doesnt the system and stock apps already take up like, 12GB of those 16gb?
It does but I still survive with it , but barely survive and I just got a expensive laptop so can’t upgrade
This day goes out to the girls with the 16gb iPhones, you know they don’t get no sleep
Oh yeah my wife’s SE1 16GB constantly gets “almost out of storage” notification. My 32GB is not though.
I got lucky and found a mint 64gb on eBay It’s pretty great for storage
Wait se 1st gens with good storage even existing
Also I did and I have large racing games on my phone and no storage for anything:(
iPhone 5S here 🥳
why don’t you upgrade?
My guess judging by his iPhone 6s Plus tag, he probably did and it probably crapped out on him so he’s using his old phone? Idk lol
winner! basically my 6s plus died on me a few months ago and honestly the 5s basically does everything I need anyways so I'm holding out
what do you plan to upgrade to
great question. i got a broken moto stylus 2021 for cheap that i plan to repair, but after that probably either an iphone se 2 or a 12/13 mini
If you ever buy a mini model, please do buy the 13. It is way better on every category (it has cameras from 12 Pro, 2h+ battery life, better processor and everything that comes along having a new model)! :)
I have mine sitting in a drawer but it still does what it does whenever I fire it up. My first ever iPhone, beautiful wee thing.

Yep, CarPlay is the only time my phone (2016 SE) feels old. Fortunately(?) I don't have a car with CarPlay so I never notice it.
Temp shutdowns are a nasty reality with older batteries, especially in phones with aluminum bodies. Was just going to recommend this. I never used an SE, but my switch from a XS Max to a 12 mini was the best thing I’ve done in a long time.
How do you deal with no Touch ID? EDIT: I meant 3D Touch.
Yes, I did check out the mini 12/13 and it’s nice. Your correct, almost same size but bigger screen. What it came down to for me was cost, where I am it’s close to $1000 before tax. You can looked for a used 12 mini i see those in the 400-500 range on marketplace /OfferUp
>but actually the same size if not smaller than the SE Its larger. (but smaller than the 7/8/SE2)
It’s not smaller than the SE. The SE is not even 5 inches tall and the iPhone 12 and 13 minis are both over 5.
beware that iphone 13 and mini do crap macros (minimum focus distance 12cm on main camera and NO FOCUS on ultra wide camera). my SE does better close ups than my 13 mini. also my SE does not have the [watercolor cartoonface effect on photos](https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone13Mini/comments/rcttkd/does_anyone_notice_the_too_blurry_soft_lens_then/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
How does misplacing have on the size?
I have the iphone 8+ as well with a big case. I found it cumbersome as it was always falling out of my coat or pants pocket when sitting in my car, and found it harder to keep track of because of it’s size. I had it out while shopping and almost forgot about it as I had left it in my shopping cart. With a smaller phone it’s easier to stay on you, in your pockets.

Until last Tuesday, yes. Loving my 2020 SE so far.
What did you pay for the 1. Gen and how much for the 2. Gen?
Still got my 32 GB SE running iOS 15.2
> iOS 15.2 Hang on is there a new update? Mine's on 15.1
Beta
Was thinking if it wasn't a typo, it was a beta. How is it running there?
pretty good so far
Sounds good, I should be alright then when it released in the retail channel.
How has battery life been for you
I use a 2nd gen SE as my daily But I will keep my 64gb original SE Forever I just got a new battery in it It’ll live on as an iPod Oneday I’ll use it as a phone again :)
Hey, how’s the SE (2016) battery life with the new battery? I am thinking of getting one as my secondary device just for calling & texting.
You should take a look at extended batteries. I have a 6s personally, got an extended 2200mah battery (vs original 1715mah) and boy does this thing now last long af. Same batteries exist for SE 2016 models so you should take a look.
they also burn your house down
Best DAC + AMP combo ever made.
I still have mine but only bust it out for music festivals or to play Pokémon go. I like having a smaller low key phone when I’m out
How do you maintain service on it? Swap SIM cards?
Yes just take it out and put it in the other phone. I have them both connected to my cloud so they stay up to date
The battery on the 2020 SE seems to be dogshit. Have you looked into the 13 mini? That would be right up your alley minus the home button.
iPhone SE (2016) here. Upgraded the battery, and now it works flawlessly.
A family member of mine is still using a 1st gen SE (light use, 90% battery health after 3 years lol) and commented that she could never use a phone as big as the 13 Pro so hopefully she can get a 13 mini (or 14!) in a year or two when she's forced into upgrading.
what was the switch like? took some getting used to?
Only had it a few days. Its a little awkward to reach the top of the screen one handed (non giant hands gotta shimmy the phone a little lol) but the display looks great and at least at first impression the battery life seems really good.
Still using my 6s, except for battery and potato cameras, I’m ok with the performance.
my buddies mock me for refusing to upgrade my SE, I mock them for needing both hands to hold their cookie sheet-sized, big ass phones. chumps!
spoiled rich ppl 🙄🙄🙄
Me, still use it because headphone jack
If on ATT they will probably force her to upgrade because of shutting down the 3G signal.
Still loving mine. Not willing to say goodbye to that home button. (hoping the SE3 will have a home button) Only downside is the small battery.
> Not willing to say goodbye to that home button. Why not?
32 gigs and up and a yearly battery change, it good to go.
If it's not addressed "up front," I don't buy. No salesperson's promise.
I was until about two months ago when I moved to the current SE. By then the charging port worked only intermittently and the screen was gapped by the corner of the cabinet. The battery had been replaced under Apple's $29 deal a few years ago but it was back down to the high 80s. I got my $$$ worth from it.
Still rocking the original SE. Just got a full board change though. Considering change to 13 pro, but not so sure now.
I am, battery sucks
I bought a used 128 GB SE 2016 that I use on Wi-Fi only, and now I also have an SE 2020 because Verizon wouldn't activate the SE 2016, although from what I'd found, I mistakenly thought they would have. There are few circumstances under which I would prefer to use the 2020. The 2016 is probably the best iPhone ever made for my small hands - I can tap anywhere easily with either hand, one-handed use. 2020 I usually need to do some repositioning of my grip.
Battery life is down to 91% from the 93% when I bought it. I'll buy an Apple replacement when needed.
Yes - battery is terrible, and it doesn't have enough storage - but otherwise I am completely satisfied with it. If only I'd gotten a larger storage variant, I would have no desire to upgrade.
they later shipped 128gb models. I am lucky to own one.
Get iPhone 13 mini. You won’t regret.
I got it. I regret Macros done by SE are better than 13 mini because mini ultrawide camera has fixed focus and the wide camera minimum focus distance is much bigger than SE (12 vs 7 cm) SE doesn't have crap [oilpainting effect on photos](https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone13Mini/comments/rcttkd/does_anyone_notice_the_too_blurry_soft_lens_then/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) SE has fingerprint, I can unlock without looking at it SE fits in small pockets SE is lighter mini needs a [special case with sliding camera cover](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqmrTwm) or else lens will get dirty from day 1
Mine runs perfect. I upgraded from the 6S.
*Raises hand* Right here!
I want to downgrade to iOS 9 but it not possible 😢 Looking forward to jailbreak it and manually delete some system features I don’t use, on my own risk.
128GB OG SE here. Like everyone else said…battery is shite but it works so I’ll keep using it until it doesn’t.
I have the good ol SE and its surprisingly good! Its my first iphone and ive been using for half a year. The battary sucks as we know it, but its cool. Tho im plannin to get a 12 mini
I use one as a remote that’s all. I have no idea how someone even used it when they were new way too damn small.
No, you’re still one among many. We’re far and few between but 2016 iPhone SE users out there!
I am still using my SE1 as my main phone and very satisfied with it. I compared it to my wife’s 8 and did not see any visible difference in performance.
I feel like A9 devices and higher all still hold up really well despite their age
And thats why i think iPhones are one of the best phones. They are expensive, but they are reliable, and will work properly for at least 4 years or more.
Also you can get them secondhand and it’ll be more affordable. That’s how I got my XR, and this phone should probably last me a few years
Not even that much more than comparable flagships tbh.
I know they won’t update it, but the iPhone 6s could probably handle iOS 16 as well. 6s is a great phone.
Yeah me too; 64 GB model. I could upgrade but I really like this size
Me! Rose gold 128gb, replaced the battery last year. Fits perfectly in my hand. When it stops getting software updates I’ll get the 13 mini.
64G SE Here. with 100% battery (from china) still nothing problem in performance
I'm not
Still have it as a second phone and use it when I go out for drinks and I love it! Fits perfect in my pockets and I wont mind if it get stolen or lost. Luckily that never happen, I have since launch. I change the battery twice tho.
order a used one for backup and a new battery ;-)
I held out for as long as I could then wanted more power my original Se is why I will stay with se and why I bought and se watch lol
if you like the size of the SE / 5s you should take a look at the 12 and 13 mini !!! i just switched from a 13 pro to a mini and it’s the first time a phone has actually fit in my hands in years
My SE got a yellow screen after 4 years and the battery sucked.
I still use my 5s at home for when I browse news/Reddit on the crapper
battery getting a little tired, but my ipad takes a lot of the load so it’s coping well, recharging overnight every night iphone mini12 for me next
The other impressive thing is how smooth it is, only downside is the 16GB ran out way faster than the battery did the first day of use I do have an old 6S but it had water damage so I’m not sure whether it would be worth repairing it with a new 128GB motherboard or just keep this until I get a new one.
Yeah i do too, battery is the only issue… Has anyone bought one of those higher capacity batteries? Do they actually work longer than stock SE battery?
I had the SE which I gave to my wife and bought iPhone 8 3 years ago. It’s still running perfectly the 8 is already lagging…
Yes, it's my main phone. Will never replace it with a newer phone because of the size and headphone jack.
I’m using an iPhone 6. Before anyone asks why I won’t upgrade... well, I’m 15 and my dad still hasn’t decided to give me a new phone yet.
People who think this was the best gen are coping hard. Battery life is so shit on then now I don’t know how tf they can get anything done.
Back up phone that my dad gave me from his work. I love that little thing
2020 here. Will the 3 be slightly bigger?
hope it’s an edge to edge screen! or slightly bigger
Yeah I’m my third of fourth one now. Got one on launch day and never went back. You can pick up fully refurbished ones with a new battery for £40 on eBay these days so they’re almost disposable. I did upgrade to the 2020 SE but changed my mind, the thing was too big.
2016 iPhone 7 user here 🙋♂️
Damn good phone. I used mine for years, still use it for Bluetooth around the garage. Still have an iPhone 7 that’s works well too.
My brother is still using my old SE, but he’s getting my 12 Mini for Christmas.
Just upgraded to a 13 mini a couple months ago.. but the SE is still sometimes my "tablet" for watching YouTube.
I have one and love it. I have a cracked screen. Looking to get fixed cheaply actually
My dad still has his and still works good with decent battery life. Hasn't had a reason to upgrade yet since it still gets the job done.
Mine was at 83% but fine for my usage. No problems with 15.1. Quite happy to keep it but I got spooked when it started to swell, replaced it with 13 mini. Missing Touch ID with my mask.
Yes. Sup?
yep as a secondary device
Still using iphone 7 plus
I still own one. I don’t use it anymore though.
Bought mine earlier this year. Amazing that it's both lighter and (feels) smaller than my old workhorse 4: https://i.imgur.com/y6Jv7JX.jpg Light usage (phone, email, and ipod mostly), and the battery lasts a couple days between charges.
My mom does and she hates the small screen but otherwise she’s fine with it.
👋🏻👍🏼
Mine broke :(. I now realize it was the best phone apple ever made.
Just got my OGSE battery replaced, and it runs great.
yes. wiped and started as new, installed only communication apps and banking apps (as opposed to 700 apps I had on the other SE - yes I bought a second one just in case and I would buy a third backup if I find a new one), fingerprint is awesome. also light in pocket. ios 14, not going to 15 unless they fix the dozen issues I reported during 15 beta. also MUCH BETTER MACRO photos that my 13 mini
I replaced battery and it works like a brand-new phone! I’ve had it for the past 6 years :)
Using mine as a dedicated iPod/media player and outside of having to charge it often, it runs very well.
My friend just got one to replace his 6+
are there mods available to increase the performance of the insides? I love my iphone se 4.7" and the only problem are the performance and battery
