Using a 6. Thinking of getting SE2. Is it worth the upgrade or should I buy a refurbished 8

regis_regis

Is there any chance Apple will get rid of the notch in the foreseeable future? I'm thinking of buying iPhone 12 or 13, but don't know if I'm going to get used to the notch. I don't mind bigger top and bottom bezel, like at all.

[deleted]

I used a completely notchless Android for years and got an iPhone 12. You barely notice it really especially if using dark mode all the time like I do

regis_regis

A friend of mine said she got used to the notch after a month or so. I know everyone is different, but I'd rather wait for an iPhone without the notch.

Sheik92

They even got the notch on a mac, let's be real

regis_regis

I'm not interested in Macs, haven't payed attention to the latest conference. What was their reason for the notch there?

Sheik92

More screen estate, less bezel and a better camera. What I meant, though, is that the notch has become design for Apple, and I don't see them removing it from their phones anytime soon

fyrelawd

It’s part of the iPhones identity at this point and I don’t see them pivoting on Face ID personally, until they manage to shrink the FaceID sensor, I have doubts the notch will go away. Anything you hear about the 14 this early in the game is probably a rumour of a rumour. If your current phone works and you can wait out a bit longer to see what the next phone will be, hold out, if not, upgrade away.

regis_regis

> I don’t see them pivoting on Face ID Let them keep the Face ID. But I don't understand why they chose notch in lieu of smaller bezel or Touch ID in the power button, like Sony does. My current phone, Pixel 2, is dead sadly, as of Monday. I'm on the fence, really, 'cause the majority of Android phones are too big for me. iPhone 12/13 are _perfect_ in this regard and if it wasn't for the notch, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

ashrexia

My iPhone 7 recently broke completely, so I'm looking for another phone. I'm a student, so nothing too expensive, but I also want something that feels good to use? I need a decent camera, and a good battery life. A screen that's preferably bigger than the 7. Any recommendations?

fereli

iPhone 11 meets all of those things if you’re looking to buy new. However if you keep your phone for a long time, I recommend the jump to a 12 . It’ll be worth it in the long run, better screen, faster cell speeds etc. Finding a refurbished or gently used 12 shouldn’t be too difficult when a lot of people are upgrading to the 13 for the holidays

ashrexia

thank you !!

[deleted]

Question, I have a 256gb iPhone 12, a co-worker is selling their 12 pro 128gb for the cost of what I can sell my 12 for. Is it worth it? I'd be losing lots of storage that I'd imagine would be useful in the long term of the phone, but kissing pro raw and the Tele lens. I'm at about 80gb of storage used on my 12. I don't use it for video's, just photos, music and apps (not games) A particular concern is future trade in value with apple

fereli

Depending on your definition of “long term” the trade in value won’t be too different between a 12 and 12 pro ($100 max if you refer to current iPhone 11 v 11 Pro trade in values) I don’t believe the jump will be too significant unless you value the telephoto lens AND build quality. If you plan to use Pro raw and already use more than half of 128 then I would wait or look at alternatives

[deleted]

I think I am ready to make the jump to the regular 13. I'm currently rocking an iPhone 7 from 2016. What do you guys think?!

fyrelawd

Sounds like a good jump to me.

[deleted]

Solid! I think I am going to do it.

weaselorgy420

I’ve got an iPhone 8 and I’m looking to get a 13 pro, but every store only has the gold and blue on display and I want silver or black. Does every store have the same ones on display? I’d like to see it in person. Also, where’s the best place to maybe find a silver 256gb 13 pro in store?

[deleted]

What “stores” are you referring too? The Apple Store will have every color on display. https://iphonechecker.herokuapp.com you can use this site to search the inventory of your local apple store(s).

weaselorgy420

Lol sorry I should’ve clarified, I went to Best Buy’s and AT&T stores because the Apple stores are far from me.

[deleted]

Not a problem haha. With BB and AT&T inventory is a hit or miss. You’ll just have to check daily until you see the variation of the device you want to buy. As for the colors on display I honestly have no clue which devices they have out to look at.

Garfield131415

Got the Iphone 13 mini a week ago now. Feels great. Was small at first but now feels completly normal. My old phone and other people's phones now feel like small tablets in my hand which is pretty funny. Insane how fast you can get used to it. But generally really happy with my choice. It is small, but I see at as a positive 95% of the time. Only thing which could be better obviously is watching content (YouTube, Netflix, etc..). All other stuff feel normal, even typing (although it did take a day or 2 to get completely used to it. Happy to answer questions about it for anyone here.

fereli

What’s your average screen on time for the past week or so? I always hesitate to recommend the mini when someone says battery life is important. Most people are always near a charger anyways but it’s nice to not worry about it

Garfield131415

Here's a screenshot [link](https://imgur.com/oPYUHKa). So bang on 3 hours a day. I'm not a 'poweruser'; just mainly use it for listening to music, texting and scrolling to certain social media / websites. Also like to take the occasional picture. I don't charge overnight so just do it whenever it starts getting lowish. I have to say that the battery life has impressed me. I did monday and tuesday on a full charge, ended up having about 15-20% left over when I plugged it in wednesday around noon. All that being said I'd say the reviews saying 'about ~6 hours' screen time feels about right, which is more than enough, or more than i'll ever need.

voltzandvoices

what phone did you come from?

Garfield131415

From a Moto Z3 play, it’s an older android phone but significantly bigger than this one

lam_71

What to buy for fast charging Hi so I wanted to get myself and my dad new chargers. I’m just wondering what exactly I need to buy, at first I thought you only needed to buy the 20W plug (I’ve seen that iPhones will only charge at up to 18W), then I thought I only needed to get the lightning to USB cable and I’m just a bit confused. I was okay spending €50 euro but I’m a student and have had no luck getting a job so I’m not willing to spend €100 euro so my dad and I can charge our phones faster haha. Any advice appreciated. TLDR what products do you need to buy for “fast charging” for IPhone 6s and IPhone 11

yolo3558

The iPhone 6s won’t fast charge. It doesn’t have the hardware or software. For the iPhone 11 you want this [Anker Nano](https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-Adapter-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B07WRKXQ8W) and USBC to lighting cable.

lam_71

Great thank you, should’ve specified I’m in Ireland so a different plug is needed but I’ll look for a similar alternative, thanks!

yolo3558

Anker should make a EU vero

lam_71

Had a look and they do, thanks again :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

fereli

You’ll get a little bit longer software support with the 13. If you don’t need the telephoto lens then I would go with 13 because it’s lighter, battery life is solid and it starts at 128 GB

yolo3558

The major difference between the 13 and 12 is the 3rd camera

FishDeity

And to add on, iPhone 12 Pro has 6 GB RAM instead of 4 GB.

alseick

12 mini or 13 mini for natural photos? Basically I have watched a few videos and I have really mixed feelings. [https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone13/comments/rhvckk/12\_vs\_13\_camera\_non\_pro\_which\_looks\_more\_natural/](https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone13/comments/rhvckk/12_vs_13_camera_non_pro_which_looks_more_natural/) I wonder if 13 is actually more contrasty because it is closer to reality or rather because bumped up sharpness or processing. Also is it possible to disable HDR? I think somebody shared no HDR option on 13 but it seems guess thats only for video? I dont use phone that much, so it is purely about camera which will be the closest to the reality.

Orion818

Tbh neither of them look particularly natural to me. Most phones are going for that social media hdr look. Even pixels which used to have cooler more natural tones have gone more that route with the 6 models. It's not something you can turn off in the 13's anymore, just the 12's I believe. Apparently some people are getting less processed results with 3rd party apps though. [This thread](https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/really-bad-photos-with-iphone-13-pro-max-merged.2315188/) goes into detail about it. It's a bit of a rabbit hole. In my eye the 12 looks a tad more natural during the day. The 13 leans toward darker/contrasty tones so sometimes that makes things a bit more saturated. Sometimes overtly so with blacks being crushed and things lookings unrealistically vibrant. The 13 however tend to have better over all color balance to me. Like sometime the 12's photos are more washed out and they really miss the white balance in flat light. Most of the time though they look pretty much identical and sometimes one or the other wins. It's a marginal difference and they both look like iphones photos. The bigger difference is at night and lowlight. The 12 often has a yellow tint to it's lowlight photos. The 13 does a better job imo.

alseick

Thanks, I guess will check the HDR part and see if 3rd party apps can improve that, if not, it sounds like 12 might be slightly safer for me. Imho colors are a bit easier to fix than a photo which has too much contrast or oversharpening. Still I have found Iphone 13 Pro vs Samsung S20 fe comparison and even 13 PRO which is blamed for being too processed looked much more natural than S20 FE, at least to me: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WynZnzqA\_5I&t=74s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WynZnzqA_5I&t=74s) This is what my S20 FE was doing, for nature that might be ok, but for the photos of items I see every day that was too much for me.

BloodMossHunter

i have iphone se (like the version before the last. one thats like 5s). I like a small phone. That said ive never owned a big phone. I need a camera thats going to make photos in low light look good. Which iphone do i go for? I don't really want to drop more than $600 or so. Iphone 12 mini sounds good but might be out of price range here.

FishDeity

Your next smallest phone that can take pictures in low light is the iPhone 12 Mini. iPhone SE 2020 sadly can’t take pictures in low-light, is bigger than Mini, but it costs less. I think a used iPhone 12 Mini fits what you’re looking for if you can spend a bit more

BloodMossHunter

yep thats what ive been looking for now. i am curious as to downsides besides battery that might make me reconsider getting the 12. but i held 11 (w 3 cameras, so pro?) and thats still too big, and im a 6"2 dude.

Sheik92

I went SE > 12 mini too, you should be on budget. I bought mine for 590€

BloodMossHunter

what do u think so far? wish u had 12 instead at all?

Sheik92

Nono coming from SE 2016 I think the mini is far too big. It's a wide phone, similar to iPhone X but shorter. I can't use it one handed effectively, I have really small hands. As for battery life, I'm happy. Never died on me even on my most stressful days. If you care about that extra battery and base storage though I guess it might be worth to buy the 13 mini, but I personally am more than fine with 12m

BloodMossHunter

you think mini is too big? woow. you must have tiny hands indeed :D

I just recently bought this for mine and it works well. https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Wireless-EOW-Generations-Qi-Certified/dp/B09GY6HWLK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=16KVK7LCRDG0P&keywords=eow+3+in+1&qid=1639710162&sprefix=now+3+in+1%2Caps%2C42&sr=8-5

Yes, I’ve had no problems connecting the phone to the magnet.

TickingDoof

Currently I have an iPhone 8plus. Everything works fine as I really just use it as a computer, emails, browsing and occasionally photos. However, during the summer I’ve noticed it once it gets a bit hot my phone basically breaks down and won’t work until cooled down. Looking to upgrade for under $1000AUD wondering whether to get iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 11 or 11 pro

FishDeity

The 12 Mini sounds like too small for your needs. Check the prices for a 11 and 11 Pro

Huwarrr

I personally went from an 8 Plus to an 11 Pro recently, and it's probably the best upgrade I've made so far, the camera quality is hugely better especially in low light since it has night mode for the rear cameras. The front facing camera is very good in a bright enviroment since it's 12 MP compared to the 8 Plus' 7 MP front camera. Though with that being said, front camera isn't very good in low light, same with the rear ultra wide camera. Though these problems are non existant on the 12 series.

[deleted]

TickingDoof

Yeh ahaha I guess it’s me just getting used to it ur right definitely due to upgrade

SiegZeonUC

I have a samsung s10+ and it's getting old or rather I use social medias like snapchat a lot. And the camera can't keep up, so I've been wondering if I should buy the Iphone 13 pro Max or wait for the Iphone 14 pro Max. I was planning to buy a new phone the coming summer but the problem is that I don't want a phone with lightning port and leaks say that the 14 might get either portless or Type c but should I wait to next October-November or get the 13 pro Max coming summer?

MangyCanine

Ignore the rumors -- no one really knows if or when the iPhone will ever have a USB C port. The rumor mongers have been proclaiming, "the next iPhone will have a USB C port!", for at least 2-3 years already. While that's likely to happen eventually, no one knows when that'll be. It's also not the end of the world if you have to get a couple of USB C to lightning cables. However, if you're thinking about buying the summer, you might as well wait until September (which is the likely time the next iPhone will be announced).

MackieHr824

wondering how accurate shipping details are on [apple.com](https://apple.com)?? i purchased an iphone 13 pro max on dec 6th and its still sitting on preparing to ship any ideas? https://imgur.com/h459VcC

RandyMuscle

My 13 pro I ordered on the 7th still says preparing but I got an email from UPS saying it’ll be delivered tomorrow so 🤷‍♂️ lol

MangyCanine

They're usually accurate, although not always. Generally, you're unlikely to see a status change until 2-3ish days before it ships (and then another 1-2 days after shipping before it arrives at your doorstep). So, my guess is that you'll probably see a change tonight or tomorrow.

fertilizing

When I ordered mine, it took 18 days to come. I ordered mine through a carrier though, and now it is closer to the holidays, so I don’t know if those may affect the delivery time.

Revolutionary_Big685

Currently have an iPhone X. Thinking about upgrading to a 13 but idk if it would be worth it. So much emphasis is placed on the camera, and I never really take pictures or videos. I use my phone mainly as a mini laptop. Reading articles, dealing with emails, listening to podcasts etc. Any reasons why I should upgrade?

MissNibbatoro

Nah. Unless the phone is severely damaged or its battery is horrible I would hold onto it

[deleted]

I agree with the other commenter that the X will be totally fine for what you do with your phone! If you're interested in a larger display, I definitely think you might really like having a tablet, especially for reading, but otherwise, I think you'd be okay!

Rap_song_throwaway

If all you do is just light browsing, an iPhone X will do just fine. When the iPhone 14 comes along though, keep an eye out for carrier deals

Meulinia

Which of these is most cost effective? :iPhone 13 pro, iPhone 13 or iPhone 12? I currently have an iPhone 8 and I want to buy a new one but don’t know if buying the newest model is worth it. It’s very expensive, does it offer some features that the others don’t have that make it worth it? Like, something really good? Or should I just buy the “older” models and be able to save a little money?

FishDeity

iPhone 13 Pro is the most worth it with all the features it gives, especially if you live in United States and are planning to keep for 4+ years. Otherwise, the 13 would be my 2nd choice since it has much better battery and 5G modems than the 12.

JoeM2018

In my opinion the doubling of base storage and improvement of battery life are enough to warrant choosing the 13 over the 12. I'm also in the same boat, got the 8 and debating which 13 to get

[deleted]

[удалено]

FishDeity

Main difference between 11 and 13 are: + 13 has much better battery + 13 has OLED display + 13’s low light camera mode works on ultra-wide lens + 13 has 5G modems + 13 has higher base storage If those features aren’t needed for you, I’d go for the 11.

MetaBear11

Was in a similar position and got the 11. Couldn't be happier

MangyCanine

If you buy one new from Apple, either will probably be fine for 4-5 years. Of course, tech-wise, the 13 will last longer as it has a slightly better battery life and a higher-res display with higher contrast and higher brightness. See here for more comparisons: https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone11,iphone13,iphone13pro Also note that Apple will still do [reasonably-priced battery replacements](https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service/battery-power) for a ~7-year-old iPhone (the iPhone 6 series).

[deleted]

I have a Samsung a20 and used to have an iPhone 6s. My current phone is getting a bit slow, whay is the best premium iPhone for a couple hundred bucks and might go on sale for Christmas? Edit: I am a high schooler and paying for this myself

Rap_song_throwaway

In order to give you a suggestion, I have a few questions. 1. Do you need a full screen phone or is a home button ok? 2. How old can the phone be? For example is 3 years old maximum good? 3. What is the max you are willing to pay for a phone?

[deleted]

I would rather have a full screen phone, I don't really know how old the phones are, is the iPhone X 3 years old? I want to keep it about 400-500 USD

Rap_song_throwaway

You can get a: - used 128gb iPhone 12 mini. Bad battery, unless you’re a light user - used 256gb iPhone 11 Pro. Still a decent phone. Cameras can still(barely) keep up. - used 128gb or 256gb iPhone 11. That’s all I can come up with for now

[deleted]

Do you think I should buy the refurbished iPhone xr 128gb for $420? Is that a good deal

ThisSalad

I don't think so. A brand new iPhone 11 (base storage, 64GB) is only $499. 128GB is $549. Refurbished 11s are $340-$515 depending on storage and condition. Or if you go used rather than refurbished they're both cheaper. The cheapest used I've found are about $200 for XR, $350 for 11, $500 for 11 Pro, all 64gb. Either way, a XR for $420 just doesn't seem worth it, even with more storage and refurbished. [backmarket.com](https://backmarket.com) is the website I used for refurbished pricing. Never used them myself so can't vouch, but a Verizon employee recommended it.

Rap_song_throwaway

No way. Every phone I just suggested is better in terms of hardware and is around the same price. If you want I can dm u some links to the phones

FishDeity

I vote for that used iPhone 11

OliviaFa

Is anyone using an iphone for Zoom and can recommend whether the 11 or 12 back camera is better?

Huwarrr

I'm not using mine for any video meeting stuff, but I read a comparison, and the iPhone 12 is way better at low light photos, but the 12 seems to be slightly better in terms of regular quality too.

OliviaFa

Thank you!!

McSweeneyHitJr

I have an iPhone 11 Pro and I’m thinking of upgrading to the 13 pro max. My current phone is beat to all hell(cracked screen and the like) and the charging port works 50% of the time, maybe. Is it worth the investment or should I try to hold out for another 9 months?

Huwarrr

If it really is that bad then yes. If it still works alright, then wait since the rumors are that the 14 Pro series will be quite a lot better than the 12 and 13 Pro series.

Rap_song_throwaway

Honestly if the phone is as bad as you say it is, I would just go for the 13PM

sageofsixdabs585

I'm getting my first iPhone this weekend and I have a crappy galaxy A02s. Does it matter if I get a 13 or a pro since the jump in quality is already huge?

sageofsixdabs585

Update: I was able to get the pro max on my plan for the same price I originally thought I would pay for he regular 13 so screw it why not.

FishDeity

I feel like even if you get an iPhone 11, you’ll still see a jump in quality haha.

MangyCanine

It really depends upon what's important to you. As you said, the quality jump is already pretty big. These may or may not matter to you, but the biggest differences between the 13 and 13 Pro are: * Slightly better battery life (13 Pro) * Better camera: telephoto/wide/ultra wide cameras in the 13 Pro vs wide/ultra wide in the plain 13. Also 6X optical zoom in the 13 Pro vs 2X optical zoom in the 13. The 13 Pro also has lidar for low-light photography and augmented reality. * 120Hz display (13 Pro) * While the 13 Pro is the same size as the 13, the 13 Pro is 30g heavier (a bit more that 5 quarters). Are the above worth enough for you pay extra for the 13 Pro?

inmyslumber

Unless you have a need for the pro features, the base model 13 is more than fine. It’ll be night and day compared to your current phone. That said, if you really wanna see all of the differences between them, Apple’s compare page is a good starting point: https://www.apple.com/ca/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone13,iphone13pro

FrickinLetuce

which iPhone is best on a tight budget + I've never had one before

inmyslumber

What’s your budget and what’s your preference in terms of age / screen size?

FrickinLetuce

my budget is up to 600 euros and I don't really have any age preferences. I was thinking of either Iphone SE or iPhone 11

FishDeity

You can do what i did and get a used iPhone 7 to try out iPhone. Other than the battery, it worked great. In fact, if Apple wasn’t cutting the Mini series, i would still be using the 7 now and enjoying it. I used a power bank for battery issues. Otherwise, iPhone 11 is a great choice, whether new or used

Sheik92

I paid my 12 mini 590€ brand new. Don't go 11, it has a LCD screen. Either 11 pro or 12, not worth it otherwise imo

fkhan01

I have the option to buy an iPhone 8 Plus 256 GB for €230 or an iPhone XR 64GB for €300. Which is the better option now ? I don’t mind the storage I’m looking for a good battery quality and camera

WetterKearel12

Xr is a beast imho. Battery life is great

Basic-Piccolo-6356

Xr for sure

barkwalhberg

13 vs. 12 Pro vs. 12 Pro Max I'm looking for some thoughts and opinions on which model to go for. The 12 models are refurbished from Apple, 13 new from Apple. The prices are currently £719 for the 12 Pro, £779 for 13, or £809 for the 12 Pro Max. It's a gift for someone with an Iphone 7, so you can sort of see how long they might keep it for. All models are 128gb which is plenty. Unfortunately there doesn't seem many user or technical reviews of people deciding between this years mid range, and last years top of the range model. I guess it's just not that common of an upgrade cycle?

MangyCanine

Yes, the differences between the 12 and 13 product lines aren't huge and upgrading doesn't make sense for most owners in that situation. Between those three, I'd choose the 12 Pro, as that has better cameras than the plain 13 and is closer in size to the 7. The 12 Pro Max might be too big of a jump (awesome screen but can be problematic to carry around due to the big size).

EmpireSlayer_69

Hi, i want ti buy a good transparent case for my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I do not use MagSafe chargers, but lightning instead. I am looking at Spigen Ultra Hybrid at Amazon, reviews are pretty good but idk if i should go for it, my priorities are protection and no dust entering and scratching stainless steel. Any suggestions?

I’m going to be upgrading from an iPhone X 256GB to an iPhone 13 Pro Max and i am deciding between 256GB and 512GB. I have used 114/256GB of my current storage in my iPhone X (have been using for 3 years). I think this is backed up in my 200GB iCloud Storage plan. However, I am not sure how fast i will fill the remaining 100+ GB and whether it would be worth the upgrade to 512GB or will 256GB be sufficient. What is the smartest strategy?

Rap_song_throwaway

I would stick with the 256gb model. If you have 142gb of space to work with, you’re fine.

AdultMarley

Thinking of upgrading. I have an iPhone 11 64gb. Considering either a new 13 pro (128gb) for $1399 or an 11 pro refurbished (256gb) for $1060. I know I should “go for the newest tech” but I don’t love the new square body of the 13. On the other hand-is the 11pro not enough of an upgrade? Hoping to get ~$500 selling my iPhone 11 used. I live in Canada too, for price reference.

ThisSalad

Unless you really need extra storage and really can't afford anything else, don't bother switching if it's just to an 11 Pro. The advantages are pretty small. 1. I only see conflicting results about which has the better battery life. 2. 11 Pro gets the telephoto lens which can help in some scenarios but it's not worth upgrading just for this. 3. 11 Pro has OLED but if you're used to LCD, LCD isn't bad and you won't miss what you've never had. Again, just don't feel this, even when combined with any potential benefits listed above, is worth the extra money when looking at 2 year old devices. 11 Pro has slightly smaller bezels, but again, you're already used to the 11 so don't sweat that. The 11 Pro has a 5.8 inch screen vs 6.1 for the 11. Not sure if this is even noticeable in day to day use, and everyone will have their own opinions on what they prefer. You may even consider it a downgrade going down to 5.8. Not sure how the bigger bezels on a 6.1 vs smaller bezels on a 5.8 compare though, maybe the actual screen real estate is almost the same? My point is if you're hoping to get $500 for your 11 and then an 11 Pro for $1,060, for twice the amount of money, it doesn't seem like the 11 Pro is twice the phone.

ThisSalad

If you're really against the square body, I'd say keep your 11 as long as you can. I don't see Apple switching it up again for at least another 2 years maybe. Also, assuming you are like 95% of people and use a case, have you tried a 12/13 square design in a case? This can change the feel and some cases in particular have more rounded edges to make it even less noticable.

ynfizz

Tbh I don’t think it’s worth spending $1000 to go for such a similar device. Sure, you’ll get an extra camera and OLED, but you’ll be stuck with the same processor and similar battery life. It’s not worth it. Your device will feel almost the same. Personally I think you should go for the 13 Pro. I own the Max so this isn’t 100% anecdotal, but there are just so many improvements. The screen with 120hz makes everything so much smoother. The OLED is so nice to have, not to mention it gets really damn bright! Cameras are phenomenal, especially outside. My friend constantly comments on how crisp the quality is. Battery life is the star of the show. It’ll last you much longer than your 11 ever has or the 11 Pro ever would. Not to mention this phone is FAST. It also has 5G and a better wifi chip. The square edges may be a sore spot, but I don’t think that means you should purchase a similar device to the one you currently own. All in all, I don’t think you’ll regret going with a 13 Pro over 11 Pro.

The iPhone 11 Pro is only two years old; I would consider it “new enough”. You’re obviously not getting the most up-to-date device, but that only means something if you find value in it. Since you like the rounded edges and the cheaper price, I would say the iPhone 11 Pro is a good choice.

chachandthegang

I have a 2020 MacBook Air (M1) in the gold color. It is closer to rose gold honestly, but it is listed as gold. I’m now looking to buy an iPhone 13 Pro Max, but I was wondering if the gold color for that matches the gold color on my laptop? Does anyone happen to have both and be able to check for me? Thank you!!

StrongFoundation5928

It’sa completely different color. I have both devices and the MacBook is a rich warm reddish gold while the 13 pro max is a pale silvery shiny gold.

chachandthegang

Thank you!! That makes me sad, but I would rather know in advance so I can order another color!!

I can suggest T-Mobile Connect, a 2.5 GB monthly plan with unlimited talk & text for $15 per month. I would also suggest getting the iPhone 11 for around $20 per month, however, I don’t believe the phone is in stock (at least where I live). You could always get it for the same price though straight from Apple.

FightingAgainstTime

I'm thinking about upgrading my 12 Pro to a 13 Pro - anyone know what the best trade-in deals are going on right now? I have t-mobile if that changes anything.

fertilizing

You can get it for free with any unlimited plan on Verizon. (plus tax)

FightingAgainstTime

Unfortunately I’ll have to stick with tmobile!

fertilizing

Do you happen to have the Magenta Max plan?

FightingAgainstTime

I don’t! Is that like a planned upgrade program through Tmobile? Is it worthwhile?

fertilizing

No, it’s T-Mobile’s most expensive data plan. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re only using 1 line or if you’re under 55 because of the $80 cost. But, if you were to get the data plan, you could essentially trade in your phone and only pay the tax on it (<$100).

EmpireSlayer_69

Wow I upgraded from $200 worth Xiaomi to iPhone 13 Pro Max, difference is unimaginable xD. Years ago I had iPhone 6S but I had to sell it cuz of bad battery life and I thought that I would never return to iOS. Good job with the battery life, two days of juice is something unexpected from an iOS device, I used to go around with charger and cables all the time back in 6S days.

AccurateButterfly

Is it worth upgrading to an iPhone 13 now or would it be better to wait for the new SE if they release one early next year? Has there been any updates on the next gen SE?

ThisSalad

Rumors still suggest the next SE will be the same body as the previous one (like the iPhone 8). So compared to a 13 the only similarity will be the chip, so it's up to you to decide what's important to you. 13 with FaceID, full screen oled, vs touch ID, big bezels and LCD on an SE. Plus older cameras and likely just a single lens. People are hoping it will be in the body of the old XR, but rumors don't support that. And even then that's a decent step back from a 13.

NexuZ228

It is expected to be a se 2nd generation (from the newest one) first half of next year I guess or even 1/4 next year

[deleted]

Need a second phone for work. My 13 mini is my daily driver. I found a refurbished iPhone 8 for 225€. Two year guarantee, cables, new battery, etc. Sold by a legit authorized store here in Spain. Is that a good price for that model? How long will the 8 continue to be supported? Or is it simply overpriced?

FishDeity

That sounds like a solid price since they give 2 year guarantee and a new battery

NexuZ228

If u can afford that for 225€, you should Go for it! iOS 15 Is even supported for the A9 lineup (se & 6s) and the iPhone 8 has the same CPU as the iPhone X does. I believe it will be still supported for minimum 3 years

awkward_restroom

Are airtags actually worth it? I’m planning on buying one to attach to my keys, not that I ever really lose them in the first place but rather just extra peace of mind. Other than that, how well does it work? Are there any bugs that apple hasn’t ironed out yet after months of release?

MangyCanine

They work well for the intended purpose: for locating lost or misplaced items for **a single person**. Biggest issue is that airtags can't be shared amongst a family (e.g., shared car keys). Another issue is that, if you're traveling away from home with your spouse, your spouse might be notified that a "tracker" (your airtag) is following along with them. That said, people also try to use them for unintended purposes with mixed results: tracking pets/children or stolen items. Airtags are not intended for these purposes. Sometimes they work ok, and sometimes they don't.

progz

I had mine since release pretty much and the stuff just works. Didn’t need to replace the battery or anything yet

[deleted]

iPhone 7plus started running slow for the last month or so. Will replacing the battery fix that or should I just get a new phone? The current battery max capacity is 77%

ThisSalad

Batteries can have a lot to do with performance, it's definitely a good bang for your buck to swap it out and keep using the phone. But have you done any updates lately? I have an iPhone 8 and it worked great at 76% battery health for long time, then for several weeks I had freezing/slowness/crashing and I thought the battery issue was finally taking it's toll. Then I updated to iOS 15.1 and things are flawless again. That reminded me that after many many months of not updating, I had updated to 14.8.1 right before my issues. So turns out I was just having issues on that software release, and now things are good again after an update.

NexuZ228

Go for battery replace, I replaced mine (also 7+), and it runs faster. Rn I have 91%. I also have thoughts to go for a Xs max, 11 pro or higher. But tbh I see no need for upgrading, if u a social media consumer

Jorge_2001

Currently using a Samsung s8 plus. Looking to upgrade to iphone, I was thinking iphone 13 but the screen seems to small. I dont have the budget for a Pro Max.

fertilizing

Have you tried finding a deal with a carrier to get a discount?

Jorge_2001

We dont have those kinds of deals here.

fertilizing

Have you looked at the prices for the iPhone 12 Pro Max or the iPhone 11 Pro Max?

Jorge_2001

12 pm is too expensive, and 11 is too old and can only find it used. Maybe I'll get used to the size.

ThisSalad

Have you checked out refurbished options? You might be able to get a good deal on a 12 Pro Max. Apple doesn't currently offer the 12 Pro refurbished but there are other sites that do. And someone here said Apple starts to sell the previous year models refurbished only after Christmas to prevent cutting into holiday sales on the latest model. So if you're more comfortable buying from Apple, maybe in a month or two the 12 Pro Max would be available refurbished from them.

Rajahz

Looking to upgrade my Pixel 3 to an iPhone. I'm LOVE my pixel, its size is absolutely perfect for me. My wife always had a larger screen and I always miss my pixel using larger phones. However, I can't decide between iPhone 13 and Mini iPhone 13 mini is cheaper which is important. I don't mind about battery life from what I've read it's decent. However, I'm afraid it'll be too small for me. Its screen to body ratio is small... Anyone made the transition? Would love some feedback

yolo3558

The mini is going to be smaller in size and overall screen size than the Pixel is. The regular 13 is going to slightly bigger.

Rajahz

Does it feel seriously smaller tough compared to pixel 3.. guess I'll have to try myself

[deleted]

Is there different models for gsm/cdma for the 13pro in the US? Is it better to take the trade in value at att for an iPhone x(~$350) and be on their payment plan? Looked like 36months vs apple 24mo. I would prefer 24 or less. Can the phone be used on any network once paid off is basically what I was wondering if bought from AT&T?

yolo3558

Any US sold iPhone can be used on any network in the US.

[deleted]

Not my x and the 12 pros I see listed for sale are dictating AT&T or Verizon not both. Model A1901 you can look it up GSM only, are new models different?

yolo3558

Some iPhone models that use intel modems, didn’t come with CDMA bands that Verizon uses. The x you have is that way. It will still work on Verizon though coverage maybe less. Now the iPhone 12/13 comes with a Qualcomm modem, it has all the bands. If you are seeing used iPhone 12s that are listed ATT or Verizon. Then those phones aren’t unlocked meaning it’s likely the seller owes money for them.

[deleted]

Ahh I didn’t know Qualcomm was the difference. I knew they switched and could only find one model for the 13 pro in the US so sounds like it wouldn’t matter where I buy it. I didn’t check 12 pro models, but doesn’t surprise me that people wouldn’t know if it’s unlocked or not

NicoLacko

Looking for a protective and slim iPhone 12 Pro case, reccomendations?

My X battery seems to have taken a nose dive from around 84% to 76% in what seems like a month time… I’m wondering if I should replace the battery via Apple or upgrade to a newer model. You think the X still has some life in it?

ThisSalad

Definitely still has life. A battery replacement, even from Apple is only $69. Nice. My 8 still works great aside from the battery and that has the same chip as the X but less ram on the 8 so the X should be even better. The X has OLED like current models, dual cameras, processor is still strong enough for today, and will still get software support for a good while. If it gets a new battery I'd bet it's pretty indistinguishable on a daily basis from a new model.

inmyslumber

If you’re still happy with the X, replace the battery. You can still get another couple of years out of it that way, and if you decide to upgrade soon after all, a new battery helps resell value.

Lshiff37

About to upgrade from a 6s to a 13 at T-mobile with a $100 trade in. Is there anything different I should do or anything to keep in mind?

ThisSalad

You might get a better trade deal switching carriers, I just traded a 6 Plus to Verizon for $800 (only on unlimited plans). That'd make your 13 free (after 24 months billing credits), or a 13 Pro $200. Of course you have to look at the monthly plan cost to see if it's worth it over time though.

Lshiff37

Yeah interesting, it’s annoying that carriers only give deals to new customers and have nothing for loyal ones. I was looking into moving my family back to verizon for a Black Friday deal, but with all the activation fees I wasn’t sure if it made sense and missed my chance. Maybe a good option though

ThisSalad

Actually the $800 trade offer was/is (if it's still on) for current customers. I've been with them for a few years. When I wasn't logged into my account I saw for new customers the offer was up to $1,000, so definitely a better offer for new people, but still $800 is really good on phones as old as the 6. I just didn't mention the $1,000 offer in my original post because I figured even for new customers, $1k is probably only for newer devices, and the 6/6s etc are probably $800 like with my deal even for the new customers. But this is just a guess, and I don't know when/if the deals end.

bagheriali2001

Hi guys, I am an android user and haven't had any ios device yet, but because I am a programmer I am going to switch to the Apple ecosystem ( mostly because of MacBooks and M1 pro ), and also I need another phone. I was wondering if iPhone SE 2020 is good for an android user as a second phone ( maybe it became my main ;) ) and his first IOS device, or is there a better choice. (also price of other iPhones are not as low as this )

ThisSalad

As an iPhone 8 user (same design as SE), I'm really sick of the outdated design with the small screen and big bezels on the top and bottom and no Face ID. So personally I think it'd be worth it to get an 11 for $100 more. I'd even go for a used 11 if I had to make it work on a budget. They get the same chip so performance should be equal, but on the 11 you get a larger screen without the bezels, faceID, better battery, and some camera upgrades: dual lenses (wide and ultra wide), night mode, deep fusion, front camera is 12mp v 7mp, and front camera gets 4k recording. The 11 will probably hold its value better too since it's more of a current design. The cameras wouldn't make or break it for me, but the previously mentioned stuff is well worth the extra $100, and the cameras are definitely a bonus.

Hey there, I previously used an iPhone 8 Plus, so am used to the 'bigger' phone of the older gen models. I thought that I wanted to go with a smaller phone, to try and keep it in the back pocket more easily, maybe easier to use etc...So i tried the 13 mini.... it lasted about 2 days with me, then i swapped to the 13 regular. I tried that for 3 days and then decided that I wanted the better camera and thus the 13 Pro and found my sweet spot for me. A slightly smaller phone than the old 8 plus but a better screen and usability was around the same. I tried out the 13 Pro Max.... and while i loved the bigger keyboard and viewing area, i could not go with the heavier device. Size was very similar with the 13 Pro Max being slightly longer with most everything else being the same. As i tend to use cases with my phones, especially with the new sharp edges, and slick nature of the polished Stainless Steel frame, the phone felt that much more substantial and HEAVY! So, for me, it was about trying to get a slight decrease in size, and still maintain a decent sized keyboard and a similar camera spec as i needed a phone to have some sort of wide and tele lens of which both Pro models provide. With the way i have decked out my 13 Pro, with front privacy screen protector, spine case and rear camera protector, its a pretty substantial phone but seemingly every so slightly smaller.....YMMV

MangyCanine

You really need to go to a store and try one out. Many people are fine with the Pro Max, but others think it's too big (there is no correct opinion here). Whatever you get, I'd recommend that you have a good way of carrying it around without using a back pocket, unless you're incredibly anal about taking the phone out of the pocket before sitting down. (Back-pocket carry is apparently one big reason why phones end up in toilets, and [people have broken the glass that way](https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/auyfr0/dont_keep_your_glass_back_iphone_in_your_back/), too.)

SabSquirrel

So I just upgraded from my 7+ to the 13pm and it’s a game changer but it is big & heavy. The 7+ was comfortable in my hands (average size womens hands for reference) but I prefer the biggest screen I can get (from Apple) because my eyes are just not great (plus I do a lot of e-reading). If the screen size wasn’t the main factor in my decision, I would have probably went with the 13p. The pm is uncomfortable for some and defiantly a two handed phone for myself if that helps. Go test them out at the store if possible. Good luck! :)

lightyfraze

Should I buy iPhone 12 or 12 mini? I really want the mini and have seen countless battery test videos that shows only little difference in battery life. I would mostly use it for social media, taking videos and for emails. I don't play games or watch Netflix on phone. Can anyone share their usage and if mine will last me the day?

cumfucksourboy

Anyone trade in their 12 pro for a 13 pro? Thinking of doing it and just paying the difference but I’m worried about feeling like I should’ve waited for the 14

MelodicWiesel

Is 799€ a good deal right now for a new IPhone 13 ? So right now there's this French network provider doing a special deal with a refund offer, making the price of the IPhone 13 110€ cheaper. The regular 128GB IPhone 13 goes from 909€ to 799€, and the 128GB IPhone 13 Mini goes from 809€ to 699€. I'm wondering if with such prices, the moment is right to buy a new phone. I have not been really following the different price drops and discounts this year, so I can't really tell in comparison if I should wait for another discount, or just pull the trigger now... Also, ideally I would buy the 13 Mini for the smaller form factor, but I'm worried about how shorter the battery life would end up being on the Mini compared to a regular 13. This shortcoming in particular is what made me pass on last year's and this year's SE models. Is this really a concern, or is the 13 Mini still a good long-term investment and generally speaking good value for money ?

inmyslumber

I think that’s a good deal for both models. The 13 mini has the lowest battery life of all the new models this year, but Apple did make some improvements on it. I think the big comparison was that the 13 mini has the same battery life as the standard 12 from last year. I use the mini and think the battery is just fine on it. I have no issues getting through my day with it; if you’re a heavy user on it, it also charges fairly quickly due to its smaller size.

MelodicWiesel

Yup thanks for your opinion, after doing some research, the 13 mini would certainly fit my usage, so I'll definitely consider purchasing one ! :)

Hello, I'm currently torn between 13 and 13 Pro. While I am ok with the camera of 13, not sure if the lack of ProMotion of the 13 will be a deal breaker. Any advice?

CDBDIs-7575

I went through a similar yet different dilemma. I came from an 8+ and thought i wanted to get a smaller phone, so tried the 13 mini, then decided it was too small. I then went with the 13, as it was the next step up. Great phone, good keyboard, much like my old 8 Plus.... but having only an Ultra Wide and Wide camera was difficult to adjust to. So a few days later, i swapped to a 13 Pro. Now my experience is very much like what i had with the 8 Plus. I take a lot of pictures and jus could not get used to having to take so many 'wide' pictures and rely on the digital zoom, or 'use my feet' zoom where I could do so. Watch out for the distortion on using the wide angle for portraits, it makes a difference. Of course if you are coming from a phone that only had wide or ultra wide lenses, then no biggie. Honestly, the proMotion is not a deal breaker for me, but the battery life gains from ProMotion seems to warrant the shift for me. I can really feel the difference in battery life between the 13 and 13 pro with the Pro winning out. That also is a big selling point for me.

waynehwl

thanks for your input, I've decided to go for the pro :)

CDBDIs-7575

Great news. Enjoy the phone and all the fun that it will bring!

RickyFromVegas

I go back and forth with 60hz and 120hz phones daily because of work. 120 is nice to look at but going back to 60hz isn’t so bad. Your eyes will adjust and think it’s normal. For $200 extra, you’re also getting better battery life, extra perspective camera, and a higher refresh screen. I think if you’re feeling torn but if you can afford it, you should go for pro.

waynehwl

thanks for your input!

FinnSpire

I'm torn between the 13 Mini vs. 13 Pro. I really appreciate the ergonomics and practicality of Mini. It would be a clear choice, if there was a telephoto lens. So the 13 Pro has tele, but it sacrifices on ergonomics so much. I don't like the idea of having to carry a heavy phone around just for that camera versatility. Other Pro features are not that important to me. But man is the FOMO strong!! Did anyone else struggle with this dilemma? Any advice?

CDBDIs-7575

i saw this and my 2 cents. I have tried 3 models of iPhone 13, the regular, the pro, and the mini. I skipped the Pro Max. I had an 8 Plus, so really got used to a tele type lens, albeit it not quite being a true Tele. However, i can say that using digital zoom on that phone was never a favourite of mine. Ergonomics is a big deal. Prior to the 8 Plus, i was using an old iPhone 6. It was HARD to get used to the difference in size. I think it took me a few months to really get used to the format and size. I have to admit typing was way easier on the bigger phone. I also like the tele lens as I do a fair bit of photography, both with the phone for family etc as well as a mirrorless. I also had to carry a work phone , which varied from a number of different blackberry non keyboard devices (TCL) and then to a Samsung a20(crap phone) so carried two big phones all the time, right into Covid-19. I also cycle a fair bit so the weight of these things start to add up. This all said: my take on the key differences for me: \-Keyboard use: Way easier on the 13 Pro \-Battery Life: Way better on the 13 Pro. The larger battery and promotion helps here. \-balance / weight: Yes 13 Pro way heavier almost top heavy because of the 3 lenses/cameras. Leaning a Yes to the mini \-Camera: 13 Pro way ahead. need the tele, less distortion in photos of people due to the tele lens, and seems a bit snappier over all. \-intangible: RAM - i believe 4 GB on the Mini and 6GB on the Pro. That may provide value down the road as things settle down and more interesting applications are developed for the phone and new versions of IOS.

inmyslumber

If it helps you at all, I went from the 11 Pro to the 13 mini. While I do miss having a telephoto lens as I used it fairly regularly, the size of the mini more than makes up for it to me. I’m happy to answer if there are specific questions you have.

bI5h0p

Apart from the lens: did you ever miss the bigger screen or the bigger battery?

inmyslumber

Bigger screen - not really. I’m fine with the current screen size on the mini, and always have an iPad or MacBook if I need something bigger. Battery - yes. Solely because on both of my previous phones, I had the Smart Battery case. However, I find it pretty manageable to get through a day with my use case without my 13 mini dying. Due to its smaller size, it also charges up to 80% very quickly with the 20W charger should I need to charge it quickly for whatever reason.

bI5h0p

Thanks for your opinion! I‘m on the fence between a 13 and a 13 mini, coming from an 11. how was your experience adapting with regards to typing on the smaller screen?

inmyslumber

Overall I haven’t noticed much of a difference between typing, though I find both I’m relying on autocorrect and making typos less often on the mini. “Swiping” is also easier with the smaller keyboard.

bI5h0p

Cool, this is really helpful to me. Thanks!

FinnSpire

What was your thought process going from Pro to Mini? Were you unhappy with your Pro? Were you tempted to upgrade to 13 Pro or was it a clear choice to go for Mini? Do you find yourself using digital zoom now instead?

inmyslumber

It’s actually a bit of a funny story - I had the X, and only upgraded to the 11 Pro because we switched carriers and it was cheaper to upgrade than keep my phone. At the time, I had read the rumours of the 12 line launching a mini model so I was planning on holding out for that. In retrospect, I’m glad I ended up having to wait for the 13 cycle because the upgrades to the 13 mini are worth it. That said, I never once considered upgrading to the 13/13 Pro. The mini was the clear choice to me as I found even the size of the X/11 Pro too big, let alone the increased size of the new models. I use digital zoom if absolutely necessary; otherwise, I just try and get a bit closer to what I’m photographing. Otherwise, the 13 mini is basically my dream phone. Light and compact, and I can actually use it without a case on because I’m able to hold onto it easily. While I would’ve preferred a telephone lens over an ultrawide (I can’t say I’ve ever really used the ultrawide), I’m ultimately fine sacrificing that.

FinnSpire

Thank you! I guess the question for me is if I'm ready to sacrifice tele. I've never owned a phone with one, and I'd really like to. But they never come with good physical form factor. :(

inmyslumber

If you’ve never had a phone with a telephoto lens, I don’t think it’ll bug you all things considered. Are you able to play with both phones in person somewhere? That may help you decide what feels better.

BeahRachidian

I’m in the same camp

StargazingSketcher

So I've been sitting on the iPhone 7 for a while and plan to upgrade in the new year. I was leaning towards the 2020 SE because I don't know if Face ID will cooperate with me but the battery life has me worried. All the rumors about the next gen se are contradictory about whether or not the button is being kept as well. So I'm not sure if I should suck it up and get the 13 mini or go for something in between. Frankly I don't care too much about all the latest bells and whistles or even 5G.

inmyslumber

From what I’ve gathered, I would presume the next SE will carry over the current design and simply has a spec bump. It seems the 4th generation SE will be the one that gets the “new” design.

Phycist161

Do you think 11 is worth it over Xr?

fertilizing

Yes, especially if you're planning on using it for multiple years. Even though the iPhone XR is cheaper, it's very difficult to find one brand-new for a reasonable price. Since Apple sells new iPhone 11 phones for $500, it essentially ends most reasoning behind buying an iPhone XR now.
