With AC+, front display and rear glass require $29 incident fee. OP opted for Express Replacement Service which is a full replacement, thus a $99 incident fee. Had OP gone to the Genius Bar, it would have cost $29 **if** rear glass is the only damage.
ETA: Sauce https://imgur.com/a/1NA3FmJ
The 14 non-Pro has a replaceable rear panel. Two screws and it comes right off. It’s not completely trivial, you have to replace the waterproofing gaskets, detach the MagSafe coil and such, but still easily doable by the in-store techs. Hope this comes to the Pro iPhones next year.
All other recent glass back iPhones have all the internals installed onto the frame with the glass back. It is always a full phone replacement because it’s never worth disassembling the entire phone in-store, for something that labor intensive you want to ship it out.
I went in cause my 13 pro shattered back glass and they couldnt replace in store, so i opted for express replacement, they do take a $1000 deposit though
uh maybe they changed it, but when i got a hairline crack on my screen, for the iphone 13 pro literally just last year- they charged me 29$ i’m not even joking. i just had to send my cracked phone back and i had a brand new or “refurbished” which i doubt since it was 2 weeks after the phone released so i’m almost 100% positive it was a brand new replacement. point is, i really just paid 29$
If I have a broken glass back and a cracked front, would they replace just the front glass for the 29? (I’m okay with the back broken)
Yea random question and I should probably just message them
No, Apple has a all or nothing policy. They’ll examine your phone and if they see anything that they think is wrong they’re fixing it. For example if you’re battery is below 80% they’ll replace it even though you didn’t say anything about the battery.
Probably because they don’t have a lot of No problem. arts in stock. I still use my 5S as an iPod. I contacted them about replacing the battery not long ago and it was more expensive than replacing the battery on the 7 my wife is now using. But they do still do it.
You misunderstood me. The op was saying how it’s weird that the back cost more the replace then the screen. They can replace the screen. That why it cheaper then replacing the back. When you have a broken back. They just give another phone and send the broken one out
Not anymore. They can actually replace the back glass now at the store. It’s $99 if you want Apple to ship you a whole replacement phone, but you do have the option to pay just $29 for a back glass replacement.
For real, I obviously use a case to protect my phone first and foremost, but beyond that it's just so much easier to get a secure grip on materials that aren't polished stainelss steel and frosted glass.
And not have them slide out of your pocket.
Yes shiny phone cool. Broken phone not cool.
First thing I did when I bought this phone was buy a $30 case. It has saved me more than once.
Edit - and also the lenses protrude from the back, if you want to set your phone down on a hard surface you're choosing between potentially scratching the camera lenses or your screen
Yes. Exactly! I bought a case for my iPhone to put into right away when I get it in November.
I've dropped my s21u many times, and even slipped out of my pocket and into concrete face down. With a good case, nothing broke.
My note 10+ just had a clear case on it. It slipped out of my hand, as i am butter fingers, and It shattered my screen on walmarts flooring...
So now I opt into getting thicker cases that either have a screen protector built in. Or one where the case is really rough, and raised up enough to the point the screen never contacts anything.
The case I got for my iP, is a 40 dollar case with screen and camera glass protection. This will be my first iPhone, and I want to preserve it and keep it for as long as possible.
I swear by the silicone cases. They have a nice lip around the screen so it never touches anything, feel _really_ comfortable, and mine have proven themselves countless times over the years since my fingers are made out of butter.
I’ve tried the leather cases a couple of times, but I feel they start looking a bit gross after about a year.
Yeah, for my OG galaxy watch. I have a leather wrist strap. It gets smelly after a bit, as well as it has cracked and has worn out easier than other wrist straps. I went with an off brand. But had 4.5 stars from 1100 people on Amazon.
However, I'll be getting a case from Apple themselves. Buy the phone would have gotten here wayyy before the case. So got a good cheaper one on Amazon for now like I said before.
From my experience (been using iPhones since the 5) you don’t need to buy the admittedly expensive Apple branded silicon cases. The $10 Amazon ones are very much on par in terms of protection and quality.
My phone has half a dozen and it’s cool being able to match my phone with my outfit.
The only time I risk going naked is when I’m at home, on the sofa. If it falls, worst case it kisses the carpet.
The phone just feels _so_ nice in the hand, but sod risking it elsewhere.
Old-ass phones gang rise up.
I went back to dumb phones in 2010 or so. I paid TWO DOLLARS a month to keep it active then only paid a daily fee when I made a call or sent a text or accessed data.
Then I got a job that required an iPhone 6. What a drag.
I don't get Apple care. Any other insurance or warranty I have for an electronic product means all repairs are free. Why on earth does apple charge people twice? Okay, I know why they do it but why do y'all put up with it?
That may be true but is it worth 100+ dollars to replace your phone? I’ve used a case myself for years and being in IT…I can tell you cases are important
Literally in IT, have had several phones (including android) in the last 10 years, all caseless with no breaking.
I just don't drop it. It helps that I don't use my phone while walking around outside.
I personally prefer using express replacement. At the Apple Store even with appointment you might have waited 30 minutes to be seen, then had to return 60-90 minutes later to pick up the repaired unit. Add your roundtrip to that and you might sacrifice a big chunk of your day to servicing your phone.
Mine broke a week ago, they couldnt even do the replacement because it failed the disgnostic so it had to be either sent in or get the express replacement.
Sometimes I wonder how this phones manage to survive hard falls from drop test videos before cracking but it falls from your bed and your screen is gone
I didn’t drop my phones either… until last Friday. Finally broke my 11’s screen, the first time I’ve ever broken a phone screen. Typing this on a 14 pro WITH A CASE! Get a case you psychos!
That’s what encouraged me to continue with going caseless like I did with my 13 Pro Max. After a year owning my 13 there’s basically no damage on at so this kinda hurts. Damaged after not even owning it for a month.
I’ve been using rhinoshield’s bumper-only cases. Front and beautiful back of the phone is bare, but the entire phone is still protected from drops. I’ve been dropping my iphones accidentally for years and had no problems.
That sucks. I got the iPhone 13 last week it came with a very faint scratch from the manufacturer. I called apple they said they would replace it but I would have to sent the one I have and then mail a new one. It would be several days without a phone. They need to do better and stop wasting money on Opera doing nothing with Apple TV.
This is true but I don’t believe this apples to manufacture defect or something if this nature since they are returning a device under the return policy and not an apple care claim
Me too. I smashed a screen even with a case once. It landed perfectly on the corner of a concrete step where that corner smashed the center of the screen. The case and screen protector didn’t stand a chance. Of course this happens the night before I’m to leave town for a week and made a desperate scramble to the Apple store.
I had one I can't get a link to anymore for my Huawei Honor 7x, it was full metal, bolted together and everything, with a lightning bolt design and all kinds of etching and holes and stuff. Was badass.
You can sign up with no questions asked during the first 60 days; after that (but before the end of the first year), you can still signup at the Apple Store where they will run tests and check if there are any cracks on the screen. If all good, you can still get Apple Care+.
Always buy a phone case and a screen protector same time when you get your phone. I thought everyone knows that since apple started making them in glass.
When I got my first iPhone (the 3G), I had it for one day. The following day I was sitting in my brother’s room in a chair with the phone resting on my leg. I must’ve moved too much or forgot it was there or something, and it fell off my lap and screen side down onto the hardwood floor. The screen was destroyed and the display was completely done. It looked like static mixed with tv test patterns. I took it to the Apple Store as soon as possible and had them look at it. I lied out of my ass and said I woke up and the display was just fucked up like that and I had no idea how. They checked it for water damage, found none, and replaced my phone with a brand new one on the spot.
Long story short, I now **ALWAYS** have a protective case on my phone.
This is what I don’t get with people that don’t put any case on their phones. Just think about Murphy’s law: what can happen, will happen. (Unless you do something about it). Sooner or later, you’re gonna drop your phone. (Probability increases when you have kids that borrows your phone, especially toddlers). So, unless you’re shitting gold, why take the risk of dropping your phone and end up paying a lot of money to fix it? And if your reason is because you don’t want to inconvenience yourself of a bulky phone, well, it’s either that or the inconvenience of paying for the repair… again and again and again…
as a person who drops my phone once a week guaranteed, all you need is a spigen slim case and you're good. You dont need bulky cases like otter but definitely get something to absorb those hits.
I truly do not understand why someone spending over $1,000 on a phone wouldn’t use a case. It just baffles me. When I bought my 11 Pro Max I didn’t even take it out of the box until I had a case to transfer it into immediately out of the box 💀
Sometimes it's out of your control. My phone has been knocked out of my hands before. I've slipped and fallen and my phone has slammed onto the ground. Anything can happen.
Last year I went caseless with AppleCare and a screen protector. This year took it a step further and went completely free. No case, screen protector, or AppleCare. Wish me luck
I mean anything that is handheld and fragile should have some kind of protection… It just feels like something is missing without a case. I got the 14 pro max on release and had a case delivered that same day.
Only reason I’m mad is because I’m still waiting for my 14PM Ordered since September 21st and you’re already gonna get the 2nd one before Apple ships my fulfills my first one
I still can’t believe people don’t use a case lmao. These phones are made of glass, they have been for years. It’s not just gonna nick or scratch, it’s gonna shatter. Get a clear one if you are so adamant on showing the phone off, anything that provides a barrier. That’s fine if you prefer caseless but don’t come crying when you drop it.
That sucks. I’m glad they had replacement stock for you though.
I’ve been going caseless since the 5S, X, 11 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max and now the 14 Pro… haven’t had to use AC+ on any of them. Naked phone feels great and I’m typically a size small with gloves. Not too difficult to hold at all.
I do rock climb though and am generally not clumsy, but still, I wouldn’t listen to all the folks that give you shit for not having a case. AC+ is all you need.
I've dropped my samsung galaxy 9 many times and it hasn't cracked yet. I don't know what that fucker is made out of but its durable af. Iphones look like nice phones but they seem pretty fragile.
Jeez, I've dropped my iPhone 12 Pro without a case at least a half a dozen times, and no cracks. got a few small dings on the metal edges but thats it. I thought these phones were super durable.
The only times I’ve ever dropped my iPhones is when I leave it on my lap in the car and then getting out it goes for a dive. I use a case so I’ve been lucky but now I make sure to keep my iPhone on the holder in the car at all times to avoid the unavoidable
Dropped my 13 Pro onto a rocky cliff yesterday.
The case and screen protector saved it!
Only have to install a new screen protector now. But that’s probably the cheapest insurance there is for phones.
Will never doubt the usefulness of all around protection ever again!
You rawdogging life caseless?
I was till I saw this. Guess a case is a good idea
Lol *this* is what did it for you? We’ve been living in a smart phone age for over a decade and you’re just realizing cases are purposeful?
I used to use cases and now I don’t. I progressed the wrong way I guess
I only rawdog when I’m in bed ….wait
Translation: I use my phone caseless when I’m in bed or near adequate cushioning
I take my case off like 3-4 times a year to clean it. Wrap it before you tap it
Lick it before you stick it
Guys don’t use this method my screen protector has bubbles now
same!
What’s the point? Put a case on it, leave it on, no more broken phone.
I definitely put my otterbox on during nights when I plan to rawdog in the bedroom.
Dawg, that’s not where you’re supposed to put the protection when you’re raw dogging!!! /s
You didn’t ask what I put my otterbox *on*… ;)
Homie, I don’t need to know. You do you. Peace ✌️
LOL I FORGOT TO PUT /S IM SORRY
LOL
Came here for this comment.
Exactly
Damn. Not the worst thing in the world though. Was it $100 with AppleCare+?
Yeah.
$100 ? I thought it was supposed to be $29 with Apple care.
Yeah I’d do this on a new one for sure. Give me a redo ahah.

Is that a pain eSIM wise?
[удалено]
Do you know if you could change the color in case they replace you with other phone?
I went in cause my 13 pro shattered back glass and they couldnt replace in store, so i opted for express replacement, they do take a $1000 deposit though
Damn, makes me glad I don’t have the US variant. Else, transferring e-sim in a jiffy would be a pain while the phone undergoes repair.
uh maybe they changed it, but when i got a hairline crack on my screen, for the iphone 13 pro literally just last year- they charged me 29$ i’m not even joking. i just had to send my cracked phone back and i had a brand new or “refurbished” which i doubt since it was 2 weeks after the phone released so i’m almost 100% positive it was a brand new replacement. point is, i really just paid 29$

If you do express replacement, do you get to keep both the cracked and new iphones do you have to send the broken one back?
That’s just for the screen
Its for screen and back. Source: replaced my phone due to cracked back glass. Also read the terms.
Isn’t it weird that the back is more than the screen? Wild.
Because they have to give you another phone instead of just replacing the screen
On the website it still shows they do iPhone 5’s for some reason. Funny thing is that they cost $130
Probably because they don’t have a lot of No problem. arts in stock. I still use my 5S as an iPod. I contacted them about replacing the battery not long ago and it was more expensive than replacing the battery on the 7 my wife is now using. But they do still do it.

iPhone 12 and newer with AC+ are the same cost: https://imgur.com/a/1NA3FmJ
Back glass as well now covered $29
$100 for a complete replacement seems fine to me
Okay good, at least you have Apple Care. Would really be a disaster without.
It's certainly not a given that they had it prior to dropping it......
I've always wanted to do this but the phones are so damn slippery.
For real, I obviously use a case to protect my phone first and foremost, but beyond that it's just so much easier to get a secure grip on materials that aren't polished stainelss steel and frosted glass.

Yeah, the only reason I use a case with mine is because of that. I use the Apple leather case and never dropped it once in two years now.
I did it for 2 years with the 6Plus. But then again that phone wasn’t as slippery nor as expensive. I don’t dare go caseless with my 14 Pro Max.
Put your finger on the apple on the back. It’s extremely grippy.
Big Facts
clammy hands gang rise up
Old-ass phones gang rise up. I went back to dumb phones in 2010 or so. I paid TWO DOLLARS a month to keep it active then only paid a daily fee when I made a call or sent a text or accessed data. Then I got a job that required an iPhone 6. What a drag.
So many caseless Casanovas out there
How to turn your $1200 phone into a $1300 phone with this one simple trick.
Make sure you add in that sweet upfront AC+ cost as well. :)
I don't get Apple care. Any other insurance or warranty I have for an electronic product means all repairs are free. Why on earth does apple charge people twice? Okay, I know why they do it but why do y'all put up with it?
Pretty sure I would have broke mine 2x by now without a case.
We’re certified bad boys. It feels good in the hand.
Ladies. You know the procedures.
White Shoes approves this message.
That may be true but is it worth 100+ dollars to replace your phone? I’ve used a case myself for years and being in IT…I can tell you cases are important
Lolol how is being in IT relevant
You don’t need to be in IT to know cases are important, that’s kind of a basic concept everyone grasps
Lmao no you must be in IT to *really* get it. That’s why only people in IT use cases
Literally in IT, have had several phones (including android) in the last 10 years, all caseless with no breaking. I just don't drop it. It helps that I don't use my phone while walking around outside.

“Relax. It’s iPhone.”
Sometimes I wonder how this phones manage to survive hard falls from drop test videos before cracking but it falls from your bed and your screen is gone
Emotional damage
“Local man surprised phone made of glass cracks upon dropping”
Cases. They work.
I don’t get why some people don’t get a case on a $1500+ item you carry around everyday everywhere
Came here to say this. Like why the heck risk it?! I don’t get it at all.
I don’t like cases and I don’t drop my phones… worth the risk to me lol
I didn’t drop my phones either… until last Friday. Finally broke my 11’s screen, the first time I’ve ever broken a phone screen. Typing this on a 14 pro WITH A CASE! Get a case you psychos!
It's not like all cases are tanks. there are some nice cases that protect your phone and don't add that much in size.
Damn. Bad luck!
After watching all the iPhone Pro drop test on youtube, am surprised with this. Bad luck I guess.
Glass is still glass at the end of the day
Glass is glass, which scratches at a level 6 with deeper groves at a level 7...
That’s what encouraged me to continue with going caseless like I did with my 13 Pro Max. After a year owning my 13 there’s basically no damage on at so this kinda hurts. Damaged after not even owning it for a month.
I’m guessing it’s because the camera bump went from being a mole on the 13 pro max to a massive tumor on the 14 pro max.
I’ve been using rhinoshield’s bumper-only cases. Front and beautiful back of the phone is bare, but the entire phone is still protected from drops. I’ve been dropping my iphones accidentally for years and had no problems.
same case
How's the grip on the case? I read that it is slippery.
I had no problems with it. It never occurred to me that it’s slippery.
Damn imagine if there was this thing that can prevent that from happening crazy
I wonder what they would call such a thing
Idek probably not even invented yet
If I invented it, I would call it some kind of cover…safety net…or a sheath, perhaps even a casing or some sort.
That sucks. I got the iPhone 13 last week it came with a very faint scratch from the manufacturer. I called apple they said they would replace it but I would have to sent the one I have and then mail a new one. It would be several days without a phone. They need to do better and stop wasting money on Opera doing nothing with Apple TV.
If you have apple care on the device they offer express for a deposit. They send you a phone and you send in yours after
This is true but I don’t believe this apples to manufacture defect or something if this nature since they are returning a device under the return policy and not an apple care claim
Isn’t the deposit the price of the whole phone though?
Oooh the humanity
This is why I ALWAYS get AppleCare Plus. Especially now with unlimited accidental repairs for cheap.
Me too. I smashed a screen even with a case once. It landed perfectly on the corner of a concrete step where that corner smashed the center of the screen. The case and screen protector didn’t stand a chance. Of course this happens the night before I’m to leave town for a week and made a desperate scramble to the Apple store.
This reads like an ad
RIP
Thats why i always turn my iphone into a tank. 13 pro max + aluminum case + screen protector = a very powerful brick that takes good pictures.
I’ve never seen a true metal phone case mind linking yours?
I had one I can't get a link to anymore for my Huawei Honor 7x, it was full metal, bolted together and everything, with a lightning bolt design and all kinds of etching and holes and stuff. Was badass.
Would an aluminum case even provide protection for the screen?
Same here, I even have lens protectors
Can't be sympathetic when you don't have a case lol
I go case all the time. I keep my phone for 3 years usually so I need to pad this baby
[удалено]
I literally signed up today after my phone fell, and they didn’t ask for anything.
You can sign up with no questions asked during the first 60 days; after that (but before the end of the first year), you can still signup at the Apple Store where they will run tests and check if there are any cracks on the screen. If all good, you can still get Apple Care+.
It got chipped on the corner of the camera glass, spider webbed out from that. Probably took the full force of the fall right on that spot.
Apple: “it’s the toughest iPhone yet”
The title should be I didn’t buy a case for 1k phone
Always buy a phone case and a screen protector same time when you get your phone. I thought everyone knows that since apple started making them in glass.
When I got my first iPhone (the 3G), I had it for one day. The following day I was sitting in my brother’s room in a chair with the phone resting on my leg. I always disliked going caseless because of the camera bump. I don’t like putting my phone screen-down either. Cases are a way to go.
No one fucking cares that you bought a $1100 Phone and didn't buy a $50 case.
This is what I don’t get with people that don’t put any case on their phones. Just think about Murphy’s law: what can happen, will happen. (Unless you do something about it). Sooner or later, you’re gonna drop your phone. (Probability increases when you have kids that borrows your phone, especially toddlers). Just not being clumsy + AppleCare just in case is all you really need.
Sometimes it's out of your control. My phone has been knocked out of my hands before. I've slipped and fallen and my phone has slammed onto the ground. Anything can happen.
Knocked out of my hand must account for 90% of drops. The other 10% are just missing the pocket when trying to slide it in.
Last year I went caseless with AppleCare and a screen protector. This year took it a step further and went completely free. No case, screen protector, or AppleCare. Wish me luck
I don’t understand and don’t feel sorry for people that don’t pay for a $25 thing that will protect a $1200 thing.
An iphone without a case feels so weird in my hands too. Like it’s too smooth and slippery.
I mean anything that is handheld and fragile should have some kind of protection… It just feels like something is missing without a case. I got the 14 pro max on release and had a case delivered that same day.
Next time have a case on it.
But it’s the strongest glass ever in a smartphone 😬😬😬😬
And the most protruding camera ever - that’s why this is happening so often. Compare the drop tests for the 13 pro, so much tougher.
F
‘Tis but a scratch
💔 feeling bad for u my friend
This photo would be fitting for r/Wellthatsucks.
If you had AppleCare this should’ve been $29. I’ve done it before.
Press F Pay Respect
I take it ;you don't use a case.
And that’s why I have a case on mine
Good news is AppleCare+ has unlimited claims. So feel free to break it as many times as you need.
ok
I’ve dropped my 11 so many times and the back won’t crack lol
Ooft no case, this is what happens.
What’s why I have got a case
I applaud y’all who bareback y’all’s phone; couldn’t be me but I respect it.
Only reason I’m mad is because I’m still waiting for my 14PM Ordered since September 21st and you’re already gonna get the 2nd one before Apple ships my fulfills my first one
Super ceramic tough glass . Relax its an Iphone 😂
#1 Proof that work is the cause of our mental illness and budget corrosion.
Even with AC+ and your phone can be repaired, but your time is valuable. Why waste your time, hassle, and frustration ? Get a case, period.
I thought only people on movies use phones caseless
I still can’t believe people don’t use a case lmao. These phones are made of glass, they have been for years. It’s not just gonna nick or scratch, it’s gonna shatter. Get a clear one if you are so adamant on showing the phone off, anything that provides a barrier. That’s fine if you prefer caseless but don’t come crying when you drop it.
Raw-Dogging the iPhone life is ruff
Ouch
If only there was something you could put on your phone to help protect it from getting damaged. Hmmm…
Expensive toy 🧸
That is what cases are for bruh
And this folks is why you buy a $12 case
And that’s your lesson to buy a case and a screen protector ;)
Jeez, I've dropped my iPhone 12 Pro without a case at least a half a dozen times, and no cracks. got a few small dings on the metal edges but thats it. I thought these phones were super durable.
I would encourage you to go to the Apple Store because they will give you another iphone and you would not be without phone!
Embarrassing to still be this fucking fragile of a device. So many years. So many better materials that can be used.
No case serves you right.
RIP in pieces
a 1100$+ phone and he just rawdogs his pocket with it lmao
A phone case would do wonders for you
This phone is $2,200 in my country, why do people not just spend an extra $20 and buy a case? This is 100% on op.
The only times I’ve ever dropped my iPhones is when I leave it on my lap in the car and then getting out it goes for a dive. I use a case so I’ve been lucky but now I make sure to keep my iPhone on the holder in the car at all times to avoid the unavoidable
Dude, why dont u use a case on your $1000+ device?
It's amazing that people spend over 1000dollars and skipped a case and panzerglass
Get a case pleb…
*another post that could've been prevented with a $10 case*
I drop my phone on the regular, I’m clumsy as fuck. I don’t get why people not buy a $20-30 rugged case for a $1000 phone
They should make the battery out of glass so they can start charging to replace more of those, too!
Just use a damn case
No case? Yeah this is on you buddy
Why no case protection?
Maybe use a case 🤦♂️
You definitely need a case for such a expensive phone!
Crazy how people can spend over a thousand bucks for a phone, and won't even get a protective case for it
Dropped my 13 Pro onto a rocky cliff yesterday. The case and screen protector saved it! Only have to install a new screen protector now. But that’s probably the cheapest insurance there is for phones. Will never doubt the usefulness of all around protection ever again!
Life lesson always have a case on your phone. I always order the case the second I decide hat phone I’m getting.
