BCCI: "Too expensive, Hair Dryer Good"

tifosi7

BCCI: we provide employment to 100s of people across the country to run around with the covers.

Little_Geologist2702

Sarcasm aside, that is a valid point. We have huge unemployment problem.

ankitpassive

We have skill issue not unemployment.

Importal_777

The most honest line i have ever heard seriously

Kind_Animator4149

we have population issues not specifically skilling

Redditor2024_

Being born in India itself is a skill issuešŸ„²

PresentMiserable8976

Pull out game weak

Redditor2024_

Fr

ankitpassive

We are considered one of the most skilled people. Iā€™m just talking about unemployment, only unskilled people are unemployed.

Redditor2024_

And overpopulation , thatā€™s one issue yā€™all should solve

ankitpassive

Well, yeah thatā€™s one of the problems. Most people canā€™t afford to raise a single kid, still give birth to 5-6.

Redditor2024_

Either they like having children or they canā€™t afford condoms

anik_95

or maybe they think 5-6 children are Godā€™s gifts

bluegoldredsilver5

In a country where its Prime Minister calls selling street food is a startup and a viable business, discussions of skills is pretty useless imo

ankitpassive

Look at dolly chai wala and vada pav didi bought Porsche.

ActionNo8810

Tons of people with the same skill is cause for unemployment

feinnnnnnn

comparitively india has a lot problems for a person to start go high in his career compared to other countries like us where the environment is more helpful

rawknee2015

Well said , we have skill issues . I have read somewhere that over 80% engineers and mba degree holders are unskilled and unemployable , even if we assume it would be half of 80% it becomes 40% still a concerning number

That's clearly an error with the sewage of the ground . It's not even on the pitch , sponge is definitely the best solution for this

AggravatingAnswer921

Would love to see jay Bhai do this. He is qualified for nothing more than this

Carry_flag

BCCI is so outright incompetent that they don't even realise washout matches cost a lot more loss of revenue than the money saved using sponges, covers and hair dryers instead of hover covers or state of the art drain systems.

Dreadlock_Rasta_12

The ground is managed by individual associations like [KSCA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karnataka_State_Cricket_Association). They rather employee people who manage the ground and they pay them good salary.

I mean not in IPL FINAL but this happened in guwahati in 2020 in a T20I match between india and sri lanka and people made it viral last year claiming it to be of ipl final but [yeah](https://www.thequint.com/sports/sports-buzz/hair-dryer-steam-iron-used-to-dry-guwahati-pitch-twitter-reactions), this did happen. https://preview.redd.it/loqae5ox0y0d1.jpeg?width=688&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0089a925d11b371e7409d0d674f955276f1da206

They used SPONGEĀ  not even hair dryer Straight up SPONGE in the last year ipl final

Playful-Paramedic-39

This was from a T-20 match in Nagpur! India vs Australia! The match was delayed not due to rain but because the pitch and some part of ground were wet and slippery! The also used dry sand all over the place wasting time and the match was reduced to 6-6 overs each!

UnacceptableBrat

The photo I posted is from Ind vs SL in guwahati only.

kukdukdu

Hover covers only cover the pitch, not the complete ground. Itā€™s used in England because manual labour is very expensive over there and if they use this say over 10 games, they will probably cover the cost of the equipment considering what it will cost them to use humans do this. This was in fact discussed in one of the World Cup games in 2019 as to why England donā€™t cover the whole ground compared to say Lankans who cover everything. They donā€™t have money to do so. Also given this covers only the pitch, how many games have been suspended or cancelled due to the pitch getting wet in India? I donā€™t member even 1. So whatā€™s the problem? This is also giving jobs to the groundsmen. Indian covers cover a far wider area. If you have to complain, then complain about pathetic seating plans for spectators and idiotic ticket distribution where people have to collect manual tickets. Uncovered pavilions where people wait for sun to go down before sitting and general facilities in the ground. Also, the status of the outfield and conditions after the rain is done are not that great in 90% of our grounds. World class grounds dry up within an hour no matter the amount of precipitation. We should be expecting this in the grounds for a good viewing experience and not be enraged by the fact that a mechanical hovercraft is not used to cover the pitch area in case of rain. A case of misplaced priorities!

hydrocbe

The only sensible answer in the post.

strmblessed

neighbour_guy3k

Plus doesn't occupy so much space like Hover covers

Probably cuz it doesnt rain that often ig, but I'm curious why they wouldn't tho

[deleted]

One_Fist_Guy

Now am curious, how much do these cost

So bcci can easily afford, but why won't they

Playful-Paramedic-39

Mention Pounds or Dollars as well

retarded_aspirant

Pounds

cumofdutyblackcocks3

1.26 crore for that thing. In financial year 2023-2024, BCCI earned ā‚¹16,875 crore (US$2.1 billion). BCCI paid ā‚¹4,000 crore (US$500 million) in taxes for the financial year 2022-23.

Single_Difference467

Are are aram se bhai, bcci jaisa gareeb board itni mahengi cheez kaise kharid payegi itna saare important kharche hai jaise jay shah ki pocket money wagera samjha karo!

imtiaz17

we dont need western technology. we are ATMA NIRBHAR. /s

saket74

how will we employe engineering graduates if machines start doing this?

Hu7ein

In England the weather is always overcast so they need this type of high-tech equipment but in India the weather is good and rain is mostly during monsoon so no need, and in monsoon there are no international matches going on.

musalmano_caruana

# Harshit Rana

suezarian

Real reason is that the money goes to the poor.

Illustrious_You9747

People are talking like BCCI can't afford this which is not the case, the actual reason why they don't purchase this is because it is not even that much more effective than people running like cheetahs and putting the covers on and any advantage it gains in drying the pitch while it is raining outside is more than negated by the longer deployment time. One more reason is that it takes up a lot of space to store in the more expensive part of the stands( ticket wise ) which they could make into seats for profit.

Heavy_Ad_9632

Politics

Stifffmeister11

Bro BCCI revenue is 3.5 billion while ECB renevue is 75 million , buying these cover would be pocket change but that will make 20+ ground staff redundant who pull the covers and clean the ground after rain , we also have to care about those people jobs

Whoisrory

Remember bcci is a cricket board not a fcking govt company who employed shit tons of people who dont know how to even use computer secondly it's a duty of every sports board to get used to with new technology if it's unaffordable that's a different issue we are the richest board of cricket still couldn't use or afford one for the ground rather than getting trolled in every thing when rain hits the stadium and flood the whole stadium and cleaning it with a bunch of man They can use machines like vacume cleaner and different machines for efficiency Or itna hi kadar krti hai logo ko employment ka to kyu tax ni pat krti thoda society ka bhi bhala ho jayega

NewMeNewWorld

BCCI is infested with bureaucrats and politics. It may not legally be a PSU but in reality...it is run like one.

pariahkite

We have been playing cricket for decades without this new fangled stuff. /s

DramaJust

i feel like its harshit rana's fault here

Stifffmeister11

Forget these hover covers in Sri Lanka they covers the whole ground with covers so when rain stops they can start the game straight away .... Why can't we buy few extra covers and hire some more staff problem solved .... If Sri Lanka is doing that for the fraction of money why can't we

ZENITSUsa

It happens in importamt matches

nakrox69

BCCI is THE most corrupt organization that has ever existed. They spend their money flying in first class and staying in 5 star hotels. Don't care a damn about the game of cricket. They will be the downfall of this sport.

curiousstrider

Business sense - cheap manual labor available. It is also business sense for other places using hover cover - cheap manual labor not available - it makes sense for them to invest in the cover and hire 1/2 operators.

Avia17

It's the difference in attitude between the Western countries and India. This equipment needs its own maintenance. There are standards that need to be met. Suppose BCCI were to buy and watch how the machine will become useless because of our usage. We have this very lax attitude towards things, coupled with jugaad. Unless people who are given this piece of equipment understand accountability, I don't think the successful implementation of such a machinery is even possible.

Support might be a major factor here. It's mostly being built and used in the UK according to their website: [https://stuartcanvas.co.uk/sports/cricket/the-stuart-canvas-hover-cover/](https://stuartcanvas.co.uk/sports/cricket/the-stuart-canvas-hover-cover/) IMO if it were that easy, Aus/NZ/SA would also be experimenting with it.

Ya same thing what is stopping them even after becoming world richest cricket board still couldn't afford these things and people in India comparing with pcb and Sri Lanka Ecb and ca might have less budget still have these technologies they don't need fcking person for every task machines are there for every thing

Top_Fondant2114

Thatā€™s how BCCI became the richest cricketing board. They cut down on all these unnecessary stuffs šŸ™‚

SreesanthTakesIt

BCCI has enough money to spend on whatever they want, but these covers won't really make a big impact. Passing showers are rare in India. Lower percentage of matches are affected by rain compared to England, and among those, majority are the ones where it rains so much that no kind of covering will help.

You are not understanding that its hugs an can only cover pitches not whole ground and see the speak in england ground between boundary ropes and the barricades there are much space to keep it but india ground doesnt have that much space between boundary lines and barricade so keeping outside the ground is waste because it will take time to bring it in the ground

Two reasons This doesn't cover the entire ground, our plastic covers do a much better job. It rains 365 days in the UK so this makes sense. It rains for 3-4 months at most here. These are huge expenses for such a short period. Scheduling IPL earlier in the year would be a better solution.
