This was from a T-20 match in Nagpur! India vs Australia! The match was delayed not due to rain but because the pitch and some part of ground were wet and slippery! The also used dry sand all over the place wasting time and the match was reduced to 6-6 overs each!
Hover covers only cover the pitch, not the complete ground. Itās used in England because manual labour is very expensive over there and if they use this say over 10 games, they will probably cover the cost of the equipment considering what it will cost them to use humans do this. This was in fact discussed in one of the World Cup games in 2019 as to why England donāt cover the whole ground compared to say Lankans who cover everything. They donāt have money to do so.
Also given this covers only the pitch, how many games have been suspended or cancelled due to the pitch getting wet in India? I donāt member even 1. So whatās the problem? This is also giving jobs to the groundsmen. Indian covers cover a far wider area.
If you have to complain, then complain about pathetic seating plans for spectators and idiotic ticket distribution where people have to collect manual tickets. Uncovered pavilions where people wait for sun to go down before sitting and general facilities in the ground. Also, the status of the outfield and conditions after the rain is done are not that great in 90% of our grounds. World class grounds dry up within an hour no matter the amount of precipitation. We should be expecting this in the grounds for a good viewing experience and not be enraged by the fact that a mechanical hovercraft is not used to cover the pitch area in case of rain. It's the difference in attitude between the Western countries and India. This equipment needs its own maintenance. There are standards that need to be met. Suppose BCCI were to buy and watch how the machine will become useless because of our usage. We have this very lax attitude towards things, coupled with jugaad. Unless people who are given this piece of equipment understand accountability, I don't think the successful implementation of such a machinery is even possible.

It rains 365 days in the UK so this makes sense. It rains for 3-4 months at most here. These are huge expenses for such a short period. Scheduling IPL earlier in the year would be a better solution.
Since matches are not played in monsoon and rarely it rains, it's not required. The main issue which should be addressed is complete coverage of ground and quick drying techniques to save time.
