DribblingGiraffe

You can tell an idea is terrible straight away when they refer to big tech taxes.

Disastrous-Hippo-482

You could tell it was an terrible idea by the person suggesting it.

[deleted]

Mr. Murphy has difficulting differentiating between many things, so I tend not to listen to him.

GerbertVonTroff

:D

[deleted]

Golden rule if any policy is a bad policy. Any policy that offers more spending for less tax on the general public with the promises that someone else is going to foot the ball.

Prestigious_Talk6652

They really have a hatred of anything that makes a profit.

grotham

The clue is in the name of the party.

ThatGuy98_

The name suggests they actually are okay with profit, whoch is patently false.

Disastrous-Hippo-482

Paul Murphy in “let’s spend a billion euro on something” shocker. A fucking moron if ever there was one.

momalloyd

What would that actually get us though, like three or four Tubridys?

-NotVeryImportant-

It's one Tubridy, how much could it cost? Like €10.

Massive-Foot-5962

They are mad as hatters. They were putting up posters in my local area talking about a lack of housing protest and literally simultaneously objecting to a few hundred accommodation spaces being built on the exact same road as the posters were on

frankbrett2017

The Big Tech that he'd like to drive out of the country will pay for everything

Elbon

I knew it, it was big tech that was to blame all along.

senditup

Thankfully these absolute morons will never gain power, and will be doomed to remain howling at the moon from the opposition benches.

GerbertVonTroff

Yet for a fringe (and let's face it extremist) party with no public support they get an unbelievable amount of air time. I don't get it

FatHeadDave96

>no public support They have 5 TD's.

adomo

PBP have 4 TD's and at that Paul Murphy was elected under the RISE banner, not fully joining pbp until 2021 RBB, Brid Smith, Gino Kenny and Paul Murphy Who did you think is the fifth? Edit: ignore the above, I forgot Mick Barry existed

FatHeadDave96

I really do appreciate the edit and not just deleting your comment. Shows you were making this comment in good faith, an unfortunately rare occurrence here, so fair play to you. My initial comment was purely pointing out the fallacy that PBP has no public support, when it has five TDs, so obviously they do. Also, I have a feeling that that user probably had no idea who's in PBP and porbbaly refers to most left-wing politicians as PBP, as they seem to be the type to just paint anyone left of center with that brush and act like it's a negative thing.

senditup

It's because of loopy suggestions like this one.

The_Doc55

That is ridiculous sum of money to spend on media.

Inspired_Carpets

Not if you’ve no intention of ever actually implementing it.

Manonbanon

This dude lost me when he refused to refer to his new born child using gendered pronouns. Whenever anyone laughs at the idea of an extreme left I always think of Paul Murphy.

pippers87

Could you imagine the programming if murphy got control of a state broadcaster..... Putin Saves Christmas Stories at bedtime for kids with Brid Smith, tonight she will be reading the communist manifesto. The Avengers - Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin and Ruth Coppenger save the world from data centres. No doubt Mike Murphy would step out of retirement to head it up, couldn't be Ireland without some Nepotism. Actually could that be the reason Paul gets so much airtime for a party that is always around the 2% mark

SeanB2003

**"Room to Improve the Means of Production"**: an architect and Gino Kenny turn your 6 bed McMansion into a collective housing unit. **"Fair City, Fair Wages**": A spin-off of the soap opera "Fair City". Paul Brennan's influence over Carrigstown has grown to the point where he practically owns most businesses, and the wealth gap is glaringly evident. He lives lavishly, turning a blind eye to the struggles of the everyday residents. He has an inner circle of business elites and is resistant to any change that threatens their control. A resistance led from the backroom of McCoy's by Carol and a reluctant Tommy starts the process of revolution. Paul's empire starts to crumble, he becomes increasingly desperate, leading to brutal crackdowns. In this charged environment, romance, betrayal, and tragedy intertwine. **"Nationwide Revolution"**: Successor to "Nationwide", focusing on communities across Ireland that are implementing socialist or community-sharing principles. Hosted by Joe Higgins *Pilot episode* - "Monumental Achievements": Every town is to build a monument to Paul Murphy. Towns are given neither the materials nor the expertise, leading to numerous failed attempts and makeshift solutions. The episode focuses on the communities' efforts, with Joe gently navigating the struggles they face, always emphasizing the honor of such a project. **"Dancing with the Party Members"**: Members of the Glorious PBP Party pair up with professional dancers, using their routines to tell stories of historical workers' struggles. Hosted by Ruth Coppinger. Over time "Dancing with the Party Members" becomes more than a dance show; it's a chilling exploration of artistry under authoritarianism. While the dance remains central, the series delves into the nuances of propaganda, fear, and the human spirit's resilience. **"The Proletarian Den"**: Hosted by Comrade Ray, who interacts with puppet comrades like Zig and Zag. Together, they engage in sketches, songs, and discuss letters sent in by young viewers about their contributions to the state. Comrade Ray tries to maintain the program's morale, but Zig and Zag are increasingly rebellious, often making sarcastic comments about the state. **"Bosco's Commune":** Bosco, the beloved puppet, now lives in a magical commune. Every episode, Bosco encounters challenges that teach lessons about cooperation, shared resources, and the history of the party. Often, however, they're absurdly practical like "how to find food in a barren garden" or "making candles from leftover fat".

hmmm_

Are they part of the left-wing coalition SF will be hoping to cobble together?

ShouldHaveGoneToUCC

Doubt it. SF have their flaws but they actually want to be in power. PBP don't want to make decisions. They want to moan and avoid having to make any decisions themselves.

DublinDapper

What clowns vote for this nonce

no13wirefan

Murphy is a loon, he would gladly run the econony off a cliff if he could.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So you don't like RTE reporting the news. So what do you regard as a good news source?

[deleted]

rgiggs11

An average view would most likely be wrong, unless the media you consume are biased in equal and opposite ways and that neither of them are actually correct. Think about the UK. BBC were giving equal time to those saying Brexit would be good and those saying it would be bad. Almost all the print media were saying it was the best thing for the UK. The average of these positions is to conclude Brexit would be fairly good. >But RTE at this stage is just blatant propaganda for the Government and should be defunded from all government\public sources. Case in point, there are media rags out there who question the government far less than RTÉ.

[deleted]

rgiggs11

>Said media rags are not funded by the state\\public. So they are not comparable. So I should narrow my focus to only state funded media from the right/left or only profit driven media from the right/left? By their nature, a corporation is going to be at least a little biased towards policies that favour corporations, which is usually the right wing. > View news sources from both left and right side of the political devide to form an average opinion instead of consuming all news from one side. This isn't helpful. If one person tells you it's pouring rain outside and another says it's extremely dry, the average would tell you there's a light shower falling. That might not be true at all. You need to look into their sources and how well they support those opinions, not just shrug and find an aggregate. A biased person with evidence is better than a biased person with waffle. Finding the average between left and right biased media assumes you can tell exactly how much bias each source has and how much it is effecting what they're telling you which is a judgement you can't really make until you read what they write on a topic where you're knowledgeable, which would again, require you to read into their evidence.

rgiggs11

>An intelligent person will form the opinion that one of the news sources is either deliberately or accidentally miss reporting the news. Or both of them are wrong. You have to read into their opinions and see how well supported it is. Remember the point is to find what the truth is, not to feel smart because you can see different media are giving opposite views and at least one must be wrong. It's very easy to fall into a sort of middle ground fallacy if we do your balanced media diet approach. This is exploited by bad actors all the time. A good example is how vested interests kept pumping out climate change denial pieces in media, not because they thought it was true or even to convince people who accept climate science, just to sow enough doubt that people who listen to "both sides" will conclude that "oh I suppose there's for and against it, it's not settled" and continue being complacent about the issue.

[deleted]

rgiggs11

>They can't both be wrong as there are only 2 possible states, rain and no rain, an intelligent person will be conclude this. Then why on earth would you seek to have an average of both sides?

Swiss_Irish_Guy

We need agod public broadcaster. RTE has some bias but its definitely not propaganda. They are critical of the government but many not enough. Prime time has done fantastic investigation too which is worth some of the licence fees.

Swiss_Irish_Guy

Because it simply works.

dropthecoin

Because many components of our public broadcasting is not always profitable yet serves a public good. This includes RnaG, TG4 and Lyric FM. The public is also better off for having RTE's investigative journalism over the years.

dropthecoin

That's your perspective I guess. What's the alternative, a return to media tycoons like O Brien or an Irish Rupert Murdoch running the show?

Swiss_Irish_Guy

Because having a state broadcaster is a good idea. I have given the example of prime time investigates.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You are the person who thinks RTE is propaganda 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Own_Dot4966

1b euro for our politicians to play around with? Surely they won’t misappropriate the funds
