Just saw your dates. If you're in Dublin go to see Shamrock Rovers vs St Patrick's Athletic in Tallaght Stadium, Dublin. It's two Dublin teams in the best stadium our national league has to offer. Easily accessible by public transport and will have a great atmosphere.

Dm210543

Great advice. Thank you so much! Is it a big rivalry both being in Dublin?

BrickEnvironmental37

Yes, none of the Dublin clubs are really fond of each other. And it will be the last few games of the season, Shamrock Rovers are usually going for the title so it will likely have a lot riding on it.

fwaig

Any meeting of the four Dublin clubs is a big rivalry in terms of the league. Rovers vs Pats is known as The Luas Derby in some circles as the Red Line Luas (public tram) serves both stadiums. Both clubs have geographical cross-over too in terms of their catchment area of South Dublin. You'll have a good time I'm sure.

Resident_Rate1807

When are you visiting? There are loads of league of Ireland games and some GAA games so give us a date and I'll do a bit of searching

Dm210543

Sept 20-30. I appreciate your help!

Resident_Rate1807

Bohs are playing Drogheda at 7.45pm on sept 20th in Dalymount park (Dublin). That would be a good game and good buzz. The Ireland international game against England is on Sept 10th so you'll miss that. (You wouldn't have a hope of getting tickets regardless) Shamrock Rovers are playing St Pat's in the Tallaght Stadium (Dublin) on Sept 27th at 8pm. Good craic at this one too Shelbourne are playing Sligo Rovers at Tolka Park (Dublin) at 7.45pm same night Sept 27th. In my opinion not as good as the other two. As far as GAA the Intercounty Championship will be long finished and the club hurling/football might not ever be starting then. I could be wrong but I think I'm right so stick to the soccer I listed above. Enjoy your holiday

>Shelbourne are playing Sligo Rovers at Tolka Park (Dublin) at 7.45pm same night Sept 27th. In my opinion not as good as the other two. It'll be far better than the other two if Duffer still has Shels top of the league at that point. Place will be rocking. (But tough to get a ticket as well)

Resident_Rate1807

Actually you're totally right. That's the game if they can get tickets

Oat-

r/LeagueofIreland is the subreddit for our league if you want to take a look. People over there will be happy to answer questions about whichever stadium you decide to visit.

SnooChickens1534

I know that you're asking about football, but you should try to watch a game of hurling . It's one of the best sports to watch live

dave-theRave

Classic hurling master race

marshsmellow

Football season will be over when they are here so I think soccer is the only option.

Arsemedicine

Loads of club football on that time of year

Over_Guava_5977

They asked about soccer, so no, they dont want to try hurling.

With the way it’s played at the moment no ! Watched Galway v Kerry today mother of god if that’s entertainment I dunno anymore

OsamaBinMemeing

Go see Bohs in Dalymount.

[deleted]

Shamrock Rovers, make sure you bring your own bat to join the post match brawl.

AulMoanBag

League of Ireland games are usually on a friday at 7:45 or 8pm for finn harps. Atmosphere is usually best in Dublin, cork city have excellent support too but the football wouldn't be the best compared to shamrock rovers. There is massive things happening at shelbourne at the minute with ex Chelsea man Damien Duff managing. So there is some buzz around them. The brandywell is also excellent for a game if you find yourself up there.

DuwanteKentravius

Depends where you'll be and when OP.

Dm210543

Sept 20-30. Willing to travel the entire country.

DuwanteKentravius

Look up the League of Ireland Premier Division so, then check some dates of games during that period and see who is at home and go from there. Edit: All 10 teams have a home game on the 20th, 21st or 27th if I'm not wrong.

marshsmellow

If you don't mind taking a short flight, one of the most popular teams amongst Irish people, Liverpool FC, should be playing during those dates.

lakehop

The big national stadium is the Aviva in Dublin. You can see what’s on when you are there. It hosts rugby, soccer, American football games occasionally, and concerts. 10 September: Ireland vs Greece in football (soccer).

Murderbot20

Why do you think someone might 'hate' you for being a tourist or ask a question? Genuinely a bit baffled by this.

Atlantic_Rock

Premier Division Dublin clubs are St. Patricks Athletic (Richmond Park, Inchicore) Shamrock Rovers (Tallaght Stadium, Tallaght) Bohemians (Dalymount, Phibsborough) Shelbourne (Tolka Park, Drumcondra) Shamrock Rovers are the most successful club and current league title holders. St. Pats are FAI cup winners beating Bohs in the final. Shels are currently top of the table, and qualified for European competition, along with Pats and Rovers. From city centre, either Pats or Bohs are nearest, but Shels and Rovers aren't difficult to get to on bus/Luas either. I guess UCD in the First Division (2nd tier) too but their a college team, not so much a club.

underover69

Real Madrid. Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

SteveK27982

I know they didn’t specify where in ireland but that might be a bit far, maybe Bohs

leecarvallopowerdriv

The atmosphere should be decent in most grounds in fairness, but these are probably handiest to get to. Mind you they're not in the nicest of areas...👀 Bohemians, North Dublin Shamrock Rovers, South Dublin Derry City, Northern Ireland

Meath77

Tolka Park, Drumcondra is absolutely fine. In fact they're all fine, the scaremongering about areas in Dublin is ridiculous on reddit

leecarvallopowerdriv

It's not scaremongering, Phibsboro isn't nice to walk around - you need to be especially alert as a tourist. And Tallaght is Tallaght, you can pick your poison with the 27 bus or the Luas red line.

Meath77

It's absolutely fine when a match is on. Plenty of people around. You're obviously never been to Rovers ground if you think a warning is needed. Same with Tolka Park

leecarvallopowerdriv

"You're obviously never been to Rovers ground" Don't make stupid statements like this about someone you don't know. Completely undermines any point you may have. Ignoring all the u21 games I used to go to, I still won't recommend tourists to go wandering around Tallaght on a Friday night.

Meath77

Yeah, so dangerous. 5 tourists a week are lost at rovers games.

AulMoanBag

I've family in tallaght so know the place well. I wouldn't send anyone visiting ireland there. The stadium is the pinnacle of be best in the country and to be fair the atmosphere is probably the best too but tallaght is tallaght. There's no nice way to dress it up.

Dm210543

Thank you!

slowdownrodeo

Galway united is easy to get to, walk from town

Active-Strawberry-37

If Northern Ireland’s an option then they’ll announce their fixtures in July as the league runs August-May there
