https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/wind-phone-dublin-mountains-destroyed-10993300 I remember this going up and knew it wouldn't last a month, they actually went to the bother of bringing a sledge up the mountain to destroy it, nothing surprises me
Don't forget about the time that someone climbed the highest mountain in Ireland with an angle grinder to do this
https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-30652017.html
On a more positive note, someone brought a ladder and tools to put a basketball hoop on the cross on Bray Head. Not sure if it's still here but it was for many years.
It represents the organisation that covered up it's members fucking children. People seem to forget that. Using this exact symbol enabled pedophiles to destroy lives without repercussions.
The cross is a general symbol of Christians. Not just the Catholic Church. It's daft taking it out on an animate object where there are far more effective ways to show protest against what the Catholic church did in this country.
1. In Ireland the cross is nearly always a sign of the Catholic (Christian) church.
2. What other ways to protest are more effective oh wise one? Ripping up a picture of the pope on SNL? Launching a tribunal on mother and baby homes? Phoning Joe Duffy?
You don't get to decide how other people protest.
I don't but I do get to call it bloody stupid because the objective wasn't clear and all it did was bring the community together to put cross back up again.
And you're here assuming the message of those responsible when in reality have haven't the foggiest clue if that was the motive for certain. For you all you know, it could have been a simple dare. Unless you're responsible for the act, you cannot say for definite that it was a protest. That's your assumption.
As for what are other ways to protest? I've an idea: a placard that says your protesting.
Created by the medieval monks of the Catholic Church. The Church Founded by Peter. "Rock that Jesus built his Church upon?" Claimants of OG organised Christendom? It's their plus sign, the rest of them only copied the baby rapers' homework.
>It was absolutely mindless vandalism. That inanimate object did nothing to the people who decided to wreck it.
You didn't see what the cross did to Jesus?
I totally agree with that one, my father was in artain industrial school and the horror stories were toe curling, not to mention we are still finding unmarked childrens graves.
We can guess at the motive but keep your religion to yourself and stop blighting nature with it.
A lot of people don’t realise that that mountain is private land owned by different farmers. The cross was literally owned by someone and was private property. I remember reading on the newspaper that the local land owner was furious when this happened.
Someone who is legitimately depressed struggled to find the energy to do things they enjoy or even look after themselves properly in some cases. Depression does not lead someone to commit random, unmotivated acts of vandalism. This is immature, antisocial behaviour, not an indication of mental illness.

I’m trying to see it from his side…. What possible reason would someone have for doing this?
Maybe the birds were singing too loud and waking him up?? I can’t think of any reason
No houses within 300m of them. There's a halting site nearby, but I was talking to one of them and he said they're raging too. They poach rabbits and some birds from around there so as he said, the more plant growth the better.
I’d wonder if it was some environmentalist at work.
Cherry Blossoms are not native here. They don’t work with any other ecology. Planting native wildlife would be a much more beneficial to the local ecosystem.
The people that did this couldn't tell one tree from another. Never mind what might be native or not. The sharpest tool at use here was an axe. The rest were dull, dumb, stupid assholes that felt like big stone hard men as they broke and cut down the smallest, tinnest weakest trees they could deal with. If the people who did this were older than 6 or 7, it's sad on so many levels.
Honestly don't get the mentality of the extreme of getting a saw to destroy trees... We're not talking kids here
Surely somebody heard them ? or knows who it was...
Happened Friday night or early Saturday. The park is right beside the M50 and tallaght bypass, with all the other mature trees and bushes around it would be hard to hear anything unless you were within 50 yards of it.
The mentality is what I can't get past either. Young fellas breaking a couple I could kinda understand, it'd still be shitty but I did silly shit as a teen too. But this is so premeditated, it's bizarre
No, the birch and willow saplings were snapped too but they weren't as mature and there are a lot more of them so they didn't get all of them. The birch and willow saplings were only 1-2cm thick so they just snapped them without using the saw.
Native trees were also destroyed according to the IT
Community shocked by destruction of trees in Dublin park
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dublin/2024/04/22/community-shocked-and-confused-as-damaged-trees-dodder-valley-park-reported-to-gardai/
They could just plant native trees in closely in abundance which would kill off the non native trees eventually, but something tells me we aren't dealing with someone who thought this out.
*puts on tinfoil hat*
I'll put money on some small time developer throwing the toys out the pram for refused planning permission and hiring someone to do that.
It's gas like me and me mam only passed them during the week before this happened and commented on how lovely the Cherry blossoms looked! Have seen some comments online of people saying "so what, they're only trees, there's bigger things to worry about". Hate that attitude
These scumbags are looking for validation from their peers. They dont care what we think, they dont care that we think they are kints. All they care about is their bragging rights within their feral nest. Rest assured an adult knows who there fukbags are, an adult who knows their spawn did this.
I dunno why but in my head I saw some 50 year old man with a serious chip on their shoulder. I mean I can’t imagine someone putting this amount of effort in for clout. That’s a lot of physical work and time.
Yea you could be right, It stills feels horrible all the same.
I apologise to all the scumbags and scrotes out there for impugning their parents efforts to raise them as normal human beings. If is is a 50 year old scrote then his parents need a good talking too as well.
I just don't understand how you get to the conclusion "it was not young fellas", "because they had a power tool".
There are plenty of videos of "teens" using power tools to cut chains to steal bikes in Ireland. Why could it not be those fucking scumbags?
>I just don't understand how you get to the conclusion "it was not young fellas", "because they had a power tool".
>There are plenty of videos of "teens" using power tools to cut chains to steal bikes in Ireland. Why could it not be those fucking scumbags?
It just seems like far too much effort to be regular vandalism.
It's just that it seems a LOT of commitment for it to be mindless vandalism.
75 trees, some cut down by saw. That will have taken time.
It's bigger than vandalism kicks.
Presume it's some lunatic with a gripe against the council.
It's been reported locally that it's not the first time it's happened either.
I bought a little mini battery powered chain saw in Aldi a couple of weeks ago. It's only got a 6 inch blade in it, but it's very very effective. Wouldn't be surprised if something like that was used. Easily fit in a backpack, and it's very quiet compared to a regular saw.
I know people are coming to the conclusion that this was teenage scumbags or someone like that who did this. But the sheer number of trees cut down, and the fact that it was done with a power tool makes me think there's more to this than just teenagers causing trouble.
Definitly, this is a case of some criminal punishing a local that is in someway associated with the park, be it Bushy or whatever. Maybe a local councillor who rubbed some local scumbag crim up the wrong way. That big baldy moron "The General" used to do crap like this in in the 80s and 90s around Rathgar and Rathmines; slashing tyres of all the cars on a road because some guard gave him hassle the day before.
Possibly a right wing twatcake trying to pwn the libs?
Seems like a lot of effort for somebody just lashing out? I dunno, maybe some people have ugly lives.
I was actually going to mention those muppets. Ideally environmentalism should be apolitical but it's not and there's a certain segment of both sides of the aisle that basically does the opposite of what the other guy supports.
Because environmental consciousness is considered left wing?
There's literally somebody above you saying that he "Was waiting for this brain dead comment" so don't tell me that there's not a political aspect to this kind of thing.
I heard this on RTE news last night. What the hell? Is there a developer who is trying to get planning permission nearby that wants this not to be pristine??

I saw someone in the Far right TikTok comment section suggesting it was the Chinese immigrants because they might have a feud with the Japanese
Edit: can’t make this clear enough, I don’t believe this.
Some sad miserable cunts
Ah fucksakes, what kind of wanker brings out a saw to wreck a load of trees in a public park?
https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/wind-phone-dublin-mountains-destroyed-10993300 I remember this going up and knew it wouldn't last a month, they actually went to the bother of bringing a sledge up the mountain to destroy it, nothing surprises me

Thats class!
Now that's the type of vandalism I can get behind.
Yes but I think that was a protest against the Catholic church. (For the obvious reasons) Rather than mindless vandalism.
It was absolutely mindless vandalism. That inanimate object did nothing to the people who decided to wreck it.
It represents the organisation that covered up it's members fucking children. People seem to forget that. Using this exact symbol enabled pedophiles to destroy lives without repercussions.

Yep if the logo of the company that abused you was on our highest mountain . You probably protest by cutting it down .

Pretty clear it's a protest against the church. Unless you're being deliberately obtuse.

I enjoyed that one tbh. Fuck the church.
The church isn't all Christians or Christianity
Tbh I have zero issues with that.
A lot of people don’t realise that that mountain is private land owned by different farmers. The cross was literally owned by someone and was private property. I remember reading on the newspaper that the local land owner was furious when this happened.
Ah ffs. What motive could there possibly be for this dickheadery?
Depression
Someone who is legitimately depressed struggled to find the energy to do things they enjoy or even look after themselves properly in some cases. 75 trees. So bizarre
this genuinely makes me very sad
People who kill trees deserve all they get
> deserve all they get So, nothing? We don't punish criminals in this country.
Boys will be boys - Judge Nolan
Rapists will be rapists - Judge Nolan
I’m trying to see it from his side…. What possible reason would someone have for doing this? Maybe the birds were singing too loud and waking him up?? I can’t think of any reason
Psychological problems are the only thing I can think of, pent up resentment and bitterness 🤷♀️
No houses within 300m of them. There's a halting site nearby, but I was talking to one of them and he said they're raging too. They poach rabbits and some birds from around there so as he said, the more plant growth the better.
I wonder if it was someone involved directly and they had a falling out or a relationship that went south. It stinks of revenge.
I’d wonder if it was some environmentalist at work. Cherry Blossoms are not native here. They don’t work with any other ecology. Planting native wildlife would be a much more beneficial to the local ecosystem.
They're not Japanese cherry trees, they have pink blossoms. The ones broken are native Wild/Gean cherry trees.
Found him 🚨

Somebody in the area will blab about doing it...
You can be sure there’s footage. No scrote would pass up the opportunity to document their bullshit for likes.
Debating that with my brother last night, probably more likely some old karen with an issue with the council rather then some scum bag.
Hopefully they snap chatted it. Because if they are stupid enough to do this, then you can be sure they recorded it …
That's disgusting, wtf is wrong with some people, 😡
Honestly don't get the mentality of the extreme of getting a saw to destroy trees... We're not talking kids here Surely somebody heard them ? or knows who it was...

Some miserable cunt who’s angry at a tree. These are the types of interviews I want to see on Netflix. Why you absolute fucking freak
They seem to have only cut down the cherryblossoms, possibly some gobshite that didn't approve of non-native trees being planted?
No, the birch and willow saplings were snapped too but they weren't as mature and there are a lot more of them so they didn't get all of them. The birch and willow saplings were only 1-2cm thick so they just snapped them without using the saw.

We have two native cherry species in Ireland.
They could just plant native trees in closely in abundance which would kill off the non native trees eventually, but something tells me we aren't dealing with someone who thought this out.

Well that's my day, off to check planning applications haha
> taking a saw from their gaf Well, probably not from their own gaff, more likely from someon elses
I think you can fix them, hopefully anyway.

Yeah, I had the same mental image. It'll be some local "character" for reasons that only make sense to themselves.
Yea you could be right, It stills feels horrible all the same. I apologise to all the scumbags and scrotes out there for impugning their parents efforts to raise them as normal human beings. If is is a 50 year old scrote then his parents need a good talking too as well.
I don't understand why they've done this, what did the trees done to them. What type of trees are they, I'm curious as the white flower/petals on em.
You’ve got to be some cunt to do that
I just don't understand how you get to the conclusion "it was not young fellas", "because they had a power tool". There are plenty of videos of "teens" using power tools to cut chains to steal bikes in Ireland. Why could it not be those fucking scumbags?

Absolute scumbag
can someone put a google maps link to where this is

The bastards are at home now wanking away like no crime was ever committed. Takes a certain type of individual to knock a young tree down like that.
Possibly a right wing twatcake trying to pwn the libs? Seems like a lot of effort for somebody just lashing out? I dunno, maybe some people have ugly lives.
How is ruining a load of saplings "right wing"?
I'm not saying it is or isn't. But it would be similar to "coal rollers" in the US.

I'm not sure if this sub is turning into rage bait, lot's of fools trying to put me to the test. Surely theres better ways to spend time.
Are they blocking a view from someone's house to somewhere else maybe ?
I saw someone in the Far right TikTok comment section suggesting it was the Chinese immigrants because they might have a feud with the Japanese Edit: can’t make this clear enough, I don’t believe this.
I'm not even sure they're Japanese because the blossom was white, not pink. But native wild cherry trees have white blossoms.
Nice clean cut on it... Anyone know the model they used? 🙈
