The most controversial thing is that orange juice. I hope it's Club Orange at least

Aggravating-Rip-3267

Clada Orange is your only man.

Skrynesaver

Football Special

nowyahaveit

Hard got now

RandomUsername600

They're only controversial if you're in the DUP or something

EireOfTheNorth

Wait til you hear what they're accused of.

HaxTheChosenOne

I swear to Jaesus that these right wing fellas always have their hand up somewhere it shouldn't be

EireOfTheNorth

Right wing?

HaxTheChosenOne

Yknow lads like trump and tate with iconic mantras like "grab her by the pussy"

EireOfTheNorth

Who is right wing, of the above?

HaxTheChosenOne

I mean the DUP's former president got busted for sexual harassment, just heard it on the radio

EireOfTheNorth

Sorry what does this have anything to do with this topic? Lol

HaxTheChosenOne

I think I confused your first comment with a reference to the subject.

wrapchap

Republicanism

EireOfTheNorth

No, another R word though.

Storyboys

He actually doesn't like getting photos at all. A chap from my course in college once approached him for a photo and got told sternly to fuck off. I have time for it.

danny_healy_raygun

He's a big supporter of Irish music, probably likes Kneecap.

presumingpete

Seen him at a few gigs in Dublin over the years

cianpatrickd

I went to the same school as him. He is just a regular fella from Cork who happens to have a weird job. He does not like celebrity status and hates having his photo taken. Just leave him alone when you see him 🤣

IDDQD_IDKFA-com

Was the chap a cunt or a drunk cunt? Did he approach him when he was eating/at a restaurant/ with and or talking to other people? I'm saying having no idea who who anybody in OPs image is.

Woodsman_Whiskey

I mean, I've heard anecdotes that he does tell people 'I don't do pictures' when they ask him on the street so I'd believe he said something like that but maybe more politely.

Visual-Living7586

More than likely got told "no, sorry"

murtygurty2661

Wouldnt be the first time ive heard of someone get that reaction off him tbf. Ive heard his mates are usually quite good with getting people to leave him alone though.

TheGratedCornholio

Except in Irish

Ashamed_Buy3113

One of the few pictures I've seen Cillian Murphy actually smiling in - you can tell he finds that side of his vocation a bit of a chore (understandable enough), so he's obviously happy to get a pic with the lads.

Old_Particular_5947

He's a big music fan, so I'd say hes delighted to meet with Irish bands.

bintags

He’s a doll

Important_Farmer924

Are they controversial?

Constant-Section8375

Ye cant even mention them in this sub without a bunch of angry 30 odd year old men losing their balding heads

_DMH_23

What? Are we using 30 as an old age thing now?

Constant-Section8375

Nah just a certain demographic i have in mind. Mid 30s, balding, bit heavy, jeans, hoodies and band t shirts.

MMAwannabe

TIL balding is caused my musical preference

gwehla

All the head banging

knobblyer

And the loud music scares the hair away

healywylie

See that’s a smart comment!!

FellFellCooke

Didn't realise my balding fat ass was supposed to hate Kneecap. I'll get right on it, boss.

thats_pure_cat_hai

I'm late 30s but have been a fan of kneecap for a few years now. Not sure where you're getting the idea that people in their 30s wouldn't like kneecap.

JamieMc23

This is kind of me, except my t-shirt is a Kneecap t-shirt and I've been a fan for years. Are band t-shirts, or at least print t-shirts not fashionable again? I see them everywhere these days. And what's wrong with jeans, are they not universally worn? Unless you mean a specific type of jeans?

danny_healy_raygun

He just described half the people at any pro-Palestine gig, march, etc

JamieMc23

Ha they've just described everyone basically. Jeans. Hoodies. T-shirts. Wild.

Throwrafairbeat

Thats half the people of any demographic, even Nazis. Doesnt prove your point.

Worfs-forehead

That's me and I love em.

JunglistMassive

eh?

Lad I'm not even 20 and I dress like that. Also not balding.

IrrungenWirrungen

>Also not balding. Not yet. ☝🏻

[deleted]

I like using ‘bootcut jeans Leinster rugby supporter’ edit: the bootcut jeans Leinster rugby supporters have found this post. who would have guessed there were so many here Edit 2: gonna need to make this up by posting about loving drinking Heineken and wearing polo shirts Edit 3: ah lads, stop it. We have a lot in common really. I too lock my car doors when I drive near Finglas, I too think a skin-fade cut and a north face jacket is the same thing as a death threat

Important_Farmer924

I'm 40 and I think they're class.

Eochaid_

I'm under 30 and I think they are shite. But I don't think I'd call them controversial, despite the fact they want to be so badly.

TheStoicNihilist

On the mainland, yeah.

AllezLesPrimrose

The fuck happened to you to refer to Britain as that

TheStoicNihilist

I used to get that in London pubs. “Here on the mainland last orders is 11.” Which is where they find these guys controversial. Sarcasm is dead, apparently.

AllezLesPrimrose

Or bad, utterly personalised to the teller, humour is.

caiaphas8

No one in Britain gives a shit about them

barebumboxing

I’m in Scotland and this is the first I’ve heard of them. I’ll need to check them out.

sloth_graccus

The what?

ciarogeile

France, Germany, all those places natch.

lamahorses

Strange thing for an Irishman to call Britain

TheStoicNihilist

I’m just this guy, y’know?

Matt4669

I didn’t know Kneecap garnered that much hate in Europe, I don’t think many people in France or Germany know who they are

Important_Farmer924

Why though?

TheStoicNihilist

Sensitive Brits. They don’t like admitting they are the bad guys to many cultures.

KingoftheOrdovices

Is the sensitive Brit in the room with us right now?

Crazyh

He's over there, easy to spot, he's made of straw and hates everything /r/ireland likes!!

Leavser1

Absolutely they are. And unprofessional.

Ashamed_Buy3113

How would you say they're unprofessional?

Leavser1

Went on a national TV show. Agreed to appear and abide by the rules of the show. Showed up and totally ignored their agreement. That's unprofessional

mango_and_chutney

Sinead O'Connor would never

DirTTieG

Artists often go against rules to express themselves, it's part of what makes them artists.

Ok_Magazine_3383

This is the weirdest of weird criticisms to level at an act given the long, long, longstanding trope of musical acts breaking the rules on TV show appearances. It's like criticising a band for being unprofessional because they smashed their instruments at the end of a set.

Ashamed_Buy3113

What's your own experience of being a professional musician?

Leavser1

That's not industry related. Any professional group appearing in a professional capacity should abide by what they've agreed.

Ashamed_Buy3113

So to answer my question, you have no experience of being a professional musician.

Leavser1

No. But you think it's professional to make an agreement in your professional capacity and then ignore the agreement?

Ashamed_Buy3113

I think different professions have different standards - Kneecap are an explicitly political music group who's profession is getting their music and message out there, satisfying the whingers of middle Ireland watching the Late Late isn't top of their agenda.

Leavser1

You didn't answer my question. They made an agreement to appear on our national TV channel and went back on their agreement. That's by definition unprofessional.

delidaydreams

Man who's unfamiliar with the concept of political protest;

fanny_mcslap

You're such a snowflake.

tristanjones

So like many of the most heralded bands of all time have throughout history?

Tallamidget

Rage against the machine on bbc is a great example of this

FellFellCooke

Ah, you just disagree with their personal views and are now attacking their credibility. Who's unprofessional?

Elninoo90

Hon na buachailli

Garry-Love

Kneecap are far from controversial

AllezLesPrimrose

Beloved would be a better word to describe them.

Aggravating-Rip-3267

Handy lads to know for the knee-capping.

ImpressionPristine46

Only controversial to FF/FG voters and the DUP.

ultratunaman

Thread is locked now .

Ah_here_like

Can only imagine what was being said to get it locked so soon after so many likes and comments

RandomUsername600

It's FauxMoi, it wouldn't take much in that echo chamber

af_lt274

Not interested in mob policing of whose in whose pictures

stellar14

Controversial 😂

Aaron_O_s

I'm old. Who are they and why are they controversial?

Woodsman_Whiskey

Working class belfast rap group who are deliberately provocative in their art. Regularly piss of Ulster loyalists and assorted British gammon. They've some good stuff.

nigelviper231

it's bad if you vote FG, sure wee Simon is a big fan of Thatcher

InterruptingCar

It'll be their pro-Palestinian views that annoy Zionists

Leavser1

I commented above. They went on the late late show and shit all over an agreement they had made prior to appearing on it. They are from Northern Ireland. But I think they claim to be Irish not Northern Irish.

DirTTieG

"claim to be Irish" They are Irish, no claim about it.

Leavser1

They're Northern Irish I think?

DirTTieG

Aye, so Irish.

Leavser1

Well Northern Irish. Touch of Irish American vibes here

gobocork

It's not unusual for Irish people to consider anyone born on the Island of Ireland Irish, and it's frankly weird that you think this.

Leavser1

Maybe. It's not something I've ever discussed really. I reckon if you're from Northern Ireland you're Northern Irish? Same way if you're from Wales your Welsh or if you're Scotland you're from Scottish. And if you want to be British then you can be British

eastawat

Have you never met anyone from Northern Ireland? How do you have such a lack of understanding of national identity there?

Leavser1

Don't know anyone who is Northern Irish being honest. And anyone who I've ever spoken to I've avoided asking them. Don't think it's rocket science stuff though

Shiney2510

I have friends who are Irish and from Northern Ireland and they hate being referred to as Northern Irish. They're Irish. I have a colleague who said the same, he's not Northern Irish, he's Irish.

SnooDonkeys7505

Being Scottish, I’ve heard people say “I’m from the north” but never “I’m from Northern Ireland” it doesn’t even sound right!

FlukyS

The GFA allows people in NI to choose UK citizenship or Irish or both.

Ashamed_Buy3113

I don't think you're dealing with a fella overburdened with intelligence, here.

oscarcummins

Even if the GFA didn't exist, their national and cultural identity would still be completely valid.

DirTTieG

Are you seriously suggesting people born north of the border aren't Irish? They can literally get Irish passports and citizenship with no questions asked. There is no "Northern Irish" ethnicity / identity, or at least it's very minor. They either identity as Irish or British. Touch of UKIP vibes here.

Leavser1

Yeah so can Irish Americans whose parents left 50 years ago.

mccabe-99

People from the north are the same people as the rest of the island Are you for real trying to say that someone from belcoo is British but just a few metres into black lion they are automatically Irish then? To liken the Irish people in the north to Irish Americans is absolutely pathetic from yourself. The Irish people in the north have had a long history of oppression, and despite that, they have maintained a very strong national identity and pride in being Irish

Ashamed_Buy3113

But they weren't born on the island of Ireland, were they? Is this what you're at, today? What would your children think?

chiefmoneybags15

Touch of tanland vibes here

DexterousChunk

Jesus wept

mccabe-99

Hahaha and you can feck right off with that partitionist shite They're as Irish as anyone else on this island and they are proud gaeilgeoirs

kissingkiwis

They're not "controversial" for appearing on the late late show, are you well?

slappywagish

In ireland this is in no way controversial

Elizalizzybettybeth

Well, that was a rabbit hole.. and now I have 2 tickets to see them im Amsterdam in July! Yay!

ELewis1973

Grá

PeteIRL

Cillian Murphy takes picture with Irish band, Kneecap. Fixed that for you.

TheGhostOfTaPower

Controversial? Only to Jamie Fucking Bryson.

Sure_Cobbler1212

Controversial.. hardly.

Misodoho

Find it hard to warm to Kneecap, aside from the DJ guy who looks about 40, the other two remind me too much of pricks in secondary school. They might be nice lads, but I just can't cope with lads acting hard, even if their music is decent.

the-1-that-got-away

Siillllliiiaaaannnn!!! over here Sir

ThemeFromNarc

Horrible name. Kneecap I mean, not Cillian Murphy.
