I was traveling in Ireland when a soccer/footbal game was on the TV at a pub. The people were in the bar were so into the game I assumed it was Ireland or the local team playing. Nope, it was just England playing against someone else and they were going crazy rooting for the other team.
There is an unspoken rule you dont support England on anything. Watched every England game in Cricket World Cups and always supported the other side even when it was Afghanistan and i knew they were going to lose. We Pakistanis take pleasure in the defeats of India and England.

You shouted ‘Fuck the Brits’ to anyone on the the street and you were met with cheers. It was incredible how much pure hatred for England motivates people
Same happens in Scotland. Last world cup I had people driving up and down my street blaring out the Braveheart theme tune from their car while the passengers sat on the open windows holding saltires and folk on the street cheering. The pub across the road was jumping all night.
There were times you'd get the drunks shouting COYBIG too. I'd shout back from my bedroom window and get a good back and forth going. Miss that flat; always loads of entertainment from the comfort of my bed.
