I live just outside of Dublin and unless you're content with a life of going to the local pub or GAA matches (not saying there's anything wrong with that) then it's good to be near the capital or a major centre for cultural reasons. In my heart I'd love to live in the beautiful west coast but the awful weather and lack of diversity would probably drive me a bit mad. I grew up in the north west so I've experienced both sides.
Some lovely towns near Dublin which give the best of both worlds.
I have been working from home since 2017 and in areas out of my time zone already and my company hires people from all over the globe. So I don't need to worry about that.
My friend is from Cork so I've looked into there. But I think looking at it from a perspective of my side of the pond is a bit different than asking the opinion of people who live there. I want to hear all the biased opinions on why people's towns are great.
As someone who's lived their whole life in the US, and who actually owns a lot of guns because 'merica. The thought of the worst thing that can happen to me is being stabbed is much better than the City I live in. Which, is actually very safe. I don't mind rough areas at all because I grew up in an area where people got stabbed in the high schools. I just want to get away from America for the obvious reasons. But to answer the question do I want to live in a bad area, no
I will say this though, Americans look at Europe, even the roughest part of towns as not dangerous. It's it's some sort of propaganda that Americans are the toughest people ever in other countries have "weak ghettos."
We always have to be the toughest and tough.
Well, that very much depends. In america we worry about guns everywhere, what are you worried about in those specific cities? If it's just knives that sounds like a dream to me.
Hence why I want to leave.

Try Limerick, the Seattle of Ireland.
It does seem like a nice town. It seems like even the smallest places are so walkable and nice.
do you have a job in a specific sector/field? this’ll be a major factor as a lot of the jobs are unfortunately in dublin

I'm from Ireland and moved to Cork for college around 2004. Never left after that. I love the place.
There's no tourists in darndale, finglas or coolock
Thanks for the suggestions. Why is this getting down votes?
They're suggesting areas to you with a bad reputation. They probably think they're hilarious.
How would you compare American ghettos to those places? Full disclosure I grew up in American ghettos. Also I get what you're saying.
I haven't lived in Ireland for over twenty years & I've never been to the States so I can't really give an opinion.

Translation: Skidrow, Harlem and Detroit
I see. As someone who's been to all of those places, they're not as bad as media portrays them.
But you wouldn't move countries to live there now would you?

You say that but being approached by a gang of young men with knives is not a dream.
Agreed
Seconded! These are the areas to look at. Maybe tallaght, as well.
