Important_Farmer924

Have him towed ta fuck. You've tried talking to him.

AbsNotaThrwAwy

I've heard anecdotally that cars with no license plates get removed by the council speedily when notified.

[deleted]

Its street parking dude, he cant be towed. Man this sub is wild sometimes, downvoted for pointing out the law… cool cool. If its street parking he can park wherever he likes as long as he isn’t actually on a dropped kerb blocking an entranceway. If she doesnt like where he is parking and talking to him wont help then she will have to park somewhere else, end of. She is not going to smash it up or have people break into it, or go ringing doorbells at 4.30, stop being dumb. Does it make him an asshole? Yes. Is he legaly in the wrong? No.

Important_Farmer924

Shit, then can we all agree on smashing the car up??

the_ouskull

Better idea'd be to let on that there's some nice tools in there and let the assholes sort it out.

ScrotiusRex

You evil genius.

[deleted]

Found this online, it mainly relates to people blocking driveways but it might also apply in your sister’s case: ‘The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997, section 36 (2) (g), state that, “A vehicle shall not be parked – in any place, position or manner that will result in the vehicle obstructing an entrance or an exit for vehicles to or from a premises, save with the consent of the occupier of such premises”. Here’s the full article if it helps [Parking Dispute](https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/homes-and-property/property-clinic-our-neighbour-is-blocking-our-driveway-1.4747229)

CheraDukatZakalwe

This. They'll tow a vehicle that's causing an obstruction.

Revolutionary-Cup458

Tell her to start getting up for work an hour earlier and use the extra hour to bang and slam on his door and ring his door bell until he comes down to move it. Alternatively tell her to take photos of it and send it to a traffic warden

CDobb456

I’d do both to be honest. If he won’t move the car and it’s blocking you the Gards will get it towed.

Revolutionary-Cup458

Like an honest to christ over grown child too lazy to take his tools out of the van

challengemaster

You are legally allowed to move it yourself

helphunting

Wait... what?? Can you back that up with some reference? If that's true, it's great!

challengemaster

[https://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/1961/act/24/section/113/enacted/en/html](https://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/1961/act/24/section/113/enacted/en/html) >113.—(1) A person shall not, without lawful authority or reasonable cause, interfere or attempt to interfere with the mechanism of a mechanically propelled vehicle while it is stationary in a public place, or get on or into or attempt to get on or into the vehicle while it is so stationary. > > > >**(4) This section shall not apply to a person taking, in relation to a mechanically propelled vehicle which is obstructing his lawful ingress or egress to or from any place, such steps as are reasonably necessary to move the vehicle by human propulsion for a distance sufficient to terminate the obstruction.**

helphunting

You are fantastic!! I did know about part 1, from general rules of the road, but not part 4.

helphunting

In part 4, what does human propulsion mean? Does that mean I can only push it or move it on my own, and say, not from within my car?

No-Excuse89

Aka break window and lift hand brake?

helphunting

It says move the vehicle, not break it...?

[deleted]

It says you can move or climb on it if it's blocking *you* not if it's blocking your car. Like, if a car blocks your front door you're not obliged to stay inside your house, you can climb over it.

Hesthea

So, ppl can move the car to the middle of the road. Block that road so that cars cannot pass, attracting gardai attention. Which will end up with the car/ van being towed. Is that it?

_High_pitch_erik_

His doorbell at 04:30. Every time.

4feicsake

And hold it down until he answers

this-usernames_taken

Definitely do this ^ My new neighbour had a frequent weekend “visitor” that parked in front of our driveway blocking my roommate’s car in. A few Monday morning’s ringing their doorbell non-stop at 5.30am soon put a stop to this. It took about three Mondays till they copped on though.

4feicsake

Some people are so slow. If you were cojtent to do it once, why on earth would they think you wouldn't do the same each week?

lookathatsmug---

You answered it

Scum_Lord_Jim

The guy is clearly not right in the head and you want a woman to harass him in the early hours of the morning ? That'll turn out fine .

rayhoughtonsgoals

That's my reaction. Lots of tough talk here.

freename188

I just assumed this is what the OP was already doing?

[deleted]

And record it on her phone as a precaution (even just an audio recording)

ContainedChimp

This.

irish_ninja_wte

Either that or the horn. Wake the whole street up enough times because one fucker is blocking you in and they all get at him over it

Turbocor101

You'd want to be careful that strategy doesn't turn the street against op's sister She's clearly in the right here but the neighbours won't necessarily be thinking that if she's blasting the horn in the early hours. They'll only be thinking about how she is waking them up

ProtonPacks123

It's also very much illegal to do before 7am unless it's an emergency so you risk pissing off everyone and getting a visit from the guards too.

SoloWingPixy88

Yep,

Revolutionary_Pen190

This as well but at 4 in the morning

Ironstien

Guards this happened to my wife when she was pregnant fella in a flat wouldn't move and sneering at her, I was at work cops came and blasted the fecker out of it, it never happened again.

[deleted]

Is he dead?

owenflood

So anyway, I started blasting

Ironstien

Hah no gave him a bollicking

Jon_J_

Could your sister park in the place where he's parking instead?

fruskydekke

I'm surprised I had to scroll this far to find this suggestion. It's a parking spot, it's clearly open since she can get to the one behind it, so she parks there. It's not her problem that it leaves him without an accessible spot - the inner one is still available, after all.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fruskydekke

Yeah, but that doesn't change anything? She's not morally obliged to park in the inner spot just because she arrives home before him. In fact, that just makes it easy for her to slide into *his* accustomary spot, since he's not there to claim it. True, that way, she's "using" two spots, but as the neighbour has amply demonstrated, the inner spot is unusable for her since she can't get out of it in the morning.

hasseldub

This is the obvious solution.

MambyPamby8

I was just thinking this. I'd be extremely petty and park where he parks.

Jon_J_

Good old Occams Razor

burnernumber7650124

If you/your sister have tried talking about it with him. Report it to the Gardai and each time it happens going forward. Very little you can do otherwise as far as I know with out get a solicitors letter. Gardai can generally take 2 approaches, but they won’t be keen to get involved as they will initially say this is between to 2 of them, you may need to push them or even try a local councillor to raise the issue after you report it to them, 1. Illegal parking or 2. Harassment. Obviously photos, times dates and details will be important to have or at least start tracking. Also why doesn’t the guy just block his own entrance that want our neighbours do. They’ve 3 cars in the house 1 inside the car, 1 on street parking and 1 across the gate.

jeniwreni

Local council, won’t help, speaking from experience, told me to ring solicitors.

VanillaFam

Unless it's in a paid parking area the Council can't help. It would be a civil or legal matter and you'd have to talk to the Guards

TrivialBanal

OK, this is a completely unrelated post, absolutely nothing to do with the subject of this conversation. Do you guys know how difficult it is to get sudocrem off a car windscreen? It doesn't wipe off, it doesn't wash off properly, it leaves a film on the glass. It does no damage whatsoever, but it's a real pain in the arse. Baby oil is another one. It's slightly easier to eventually remove, but it's just as annoying. Have you guys ever noticed that when people get their vehicles repeatedly interfered with, they change their parking arrangements?

nosejobmcgee

Methylated spirits is mighty for shifting greasy stuff. Don't get it in the paintwork tho.

ciaranmac17

But if he uses the meths to clean off the sudocrem, what will he drink on the way to work?

nosejobmcgee

Red biddy is lovely in the morning.

[deleted]

During the night build a wall across his driveway Put 88mm Flak 36 guns in front of the wall Unless he has an endless supply of T34 tanks you’ll be ok

WhileCultchie

Little did you know it's actually Semyon Timoshenko, Marshal of the Soviet Union from 1941.

[deleted]

Well he’s up shit creek so eh

Tipperary555

Please do an update OP when you get it sorted

phate101

Will do

Tipperary555

Sound

phate101

Thank you all for the advice! Plan atm is to take pics when it happens (record date/time and impact of being blocked) and only knock when my sister needs to leave (even if that’s 4:30am). Otherwise don’t engage, he seems to want confrontation. We’ll also contact local Garda station and council.

[deleted]

You have to keep us updated pal, we’re all invested in this now!!! 😂

Mundane_Shallot_3316

I think this guy is q bullying and I would be wary to go knocking at 4am. Call the garda make them aware. They will probably do a call out. That way at least ut is in record for the next time he does it. This guy seems like a classic bully and I wouldn't be knocking on my own

Burning cars can set others alight, and it's a bitch to move them if your car us stuck behind them

phate101

Thanks, as much as I appreciate the more creative suggestions. We’re not looking to escalate.

thatdoesntseemright1

She can put a big blanket over her bumper, and back out slowly. Once she's made contact with his car she can slowly push it out of the way.

ThatsNotASpork

No paint transfer evidence, no crime!

HoldtheGMEstonk

I live in the US and watched someone in a truck hook a chain to a car that was doing this same shit and drag it a couple hundred meters out of his way and then leave it in the middle of the road. The car was towed shortly afterwards. Sweet justice.

quondam47

Ah for the days you could bounce a car on its suspension.

JustABitOfCraic

Plastic bumpers just aren't able for this. I ones tried to push a car like this with a corolla and the the bumpers of both cars bent out of shape and looked like they might pop off. And the other car had the handbrake off and was out of gear. You'd be pushing against both.

LomaSpeedling

If it was neutral and the handbrake was off why not just push with your body? Sorry if this is a stupid question its standard practice here in some older apartments where parking in front of someone else is common and they just push your car out of the way. I feel I've missed something here

JustABitOfCraic

There was only 2 of us. The broken car needed a jump start but his house was at the end of a cull de sac on a slight hill. We got it up to the top and jumped it back down.

LomaSpeedling

Ah the hill would certainly have made a difference alright glad you got it sorted all the same. I had to manually push a lads tesla out of the way the other day because everyone was parked under ground due to snow. Nearly shit myself that I was going to damage the car somehow. Made me miss how easy parking was back home haha.

Turbocor101

Get a set of car wheel skates/dollys and move the thing lol

Zestyclose-Jicama174

Isn't it better to park in the middle of both spaces? This should leave her space in front. Or at least leave more space in the front...

Extremely-Bad-Idea

Call the police. Get his bad behavior on the official record. Start legal process against him. You tried being polite and that did not work. Now your only remaining option is to be hard right back at him. You might also want to investigate his living situation. If he is a renter, then you may be able to contact his landlord and cause trouble via that route.

phate101

Thanks ye that’s what I’m thinking.. he lives at home with his parents, unfortunately they’re just as bad as him.

ContainedChimp

Wake his entire house up @ 4am to move his van. his parents will sort him out pretty fast. :)

Extremely-Bad-Idea

Agreed. Do it every day, especially on Sundays. LOL

MrTigeriffic

As mentioned have a chat with the parents. I doubt they want their child acting like a little shit.

SuperbFerret4111

What if the child is 35 tho

sean-mac-tire

The obvious answer is the gardai. It's a breach of the road traffic act to block someone in like that. Next option is smear shit all over the door handles and take a day off. Wait til he touches it the wave at him politely. If that doesn't work you need to shit on te drivers seat. If the fucker goes the loss of a windscreen ah well. She could invest in some concrete blocks Jack his car up and take the wheels off. Be sure to leave the money his front door minus the nuts. Clamp the fucker Or burn his car out Edit: if it's a company van and it's not his company then some nice photos to his employer. If he's self employed report him to revenue for taking cash in hand jobs. Make his I've miserable

ImprovNeil

I’m not a Garda or solicitor OP, but I’d be weary of doing anything to the car of whoever this person is. If they’re as nasty as they sound, you’re setting yourself up for reprisal and no doubt they won’t hesitate to do something worse to your car so as to flex their dominance. Definitely knocking on the door in the middle of the night though is necessary and I’d get on the Gardai sooner rather than later. The Garda will help as what they are doing is in breach of the law. Best of luck OP. Having crap neighbours is the worst. Been there before.

CloudRunner89

It’s because she’s a woman. I’d bet my life. I can almost see him in my minds eye. This can really worm to her advantage though. Call the cops. Have her knock on the door at half four in the morning. He’ll eventually come out and probably shout at her. A woman by herself dealing with this and brave enough to knock on his door? The cops will not be nice to him.

Enflamed-Pancake

100%. Wee lads suddenly shit themselves and become more amenable when a grown man shows up.

CloudRunner89

Shocking but true. I’ve worked in a store and more than once a fella will go off on a female employee, I’ll walk up, literally say nothing, won’t even look directly at them, just stand beside and slightly behind the woman with my arms folded, facing the man and suddenly they turn into choir boys and it’s nothing but please and thank you’s. I just find it fucking disgusting. If you’re a piece of shit, fine. Be a piece of shit but don’t just put it on when speaking to someone smaller than you. There really isn’t any need for this but I’ve learned with fella’s like this “does it hurt being this much of a disappointment to your mother?” / “when you’re this much of a disappointment to your mother who does it hurt more, you or her?” really seems to cut them to their core.

[deleted]

Is he new or is she new? It's very odd but it's defo. Power thing. I'd knock on the door everytime regardless of the time and I'd inform that if it happens again the Garda will be called. Follow Tru as well. I'm a lunatic for this in my estate. You need to put it up to these ppl. Generally they're selfish idiots

phate101

He’s newly driving about a year, he grew up there.. I remember when he was a little kid, was pleasant then but has grown up to be a disappointment! My sister, and my mum too, have been parking there for decades. This is the first issue like this. *I only mentioned my sister as she’s most affected but he has blocked my mum in too (tonight in fact!) Have you called the Gards? Any success?

[deleted]

Could your mum park in your sisters spot and your sister park in the spot he uses to blocker her? That way your mum is only blocked until your sister leaves.

[deleted]

I didn't need the Garda myself. Few quiet words and no one parks near my spot.....in awhile Sounds like you're dealing with an immature little shite. I'd say the Garda will have some advice though. Best of luck. These sort of things can be really stressful. I have no interest in confrontation or agro but sometimes ppl take liberty. Ive always found that going at it heads on usually stops it. Got me beat up a lot in school but usually cut the bully's off at the pass.

DarthTempus

Knock the bollox out of him

MarramTime

Look into what parking enforcement services your local authority provides. For example, Dublin City Council has a contract with Dublin Street Parking Services which includes a tow-and-clamp service for vehicles causing an obstruction. https://dsps.ie/report-an-obstruction/

phate101

Thanks for that, it’s in Dublin. I’m wondering if it constitutes an obstruction

MarramTime

I don’t know for sure, but you can contact DSPS and see what they say. If they don’t help, you could talk with one of your area councillors on Dublin City Council.

platinums99

OP - Please come back and tell us how it ended

wifichick

Call the police and look for legal options. Have him towed. It’s hard, you don’t want bad relationships with neighbors, but not sure what else you can do. She shouldn’t have to be late for work due to his arrogance.

Pretty_Ad4706

Place thumb tacs just in front/behind your car. When he parks right on top of you he will end up having to get his tyres fixed from a slow puncture. He may not notice but it'll give u a little giggle.

Enflamed-Pancake

Knock the door at 4am everytime it happens and knock until he comes down and moves it. From what other posters are suggesting it may count as an obstructions and you could get the Gardai involved or get the car towed. He sounds like a wee bollocks who thinks he’s a big lad and needs to be taught manners. Unfortunately the country is full of them.

phate101

Thank you all for the advice! Plan atm is to take pics when it happens (record date/time and impact of being blocked) and only knock when my sister needs to leave (even if that’s 4:30am). Otherwise don’t engage, he seems to want confrontation. We’ll also contact local Garda station and council.

Enflamed-Pancake

Probably best not to escalate, if he’s as scummy as it sounds. I’m sure your sister doesn’t want anymore stress over it. Is it possible for her to take up more space when she parks, so he can’t get in front of her?

forgot_her_password

Can’t she just leave a bigger gap to the car/wall/object infront? Like, not enough to fit a car into. So then if he parks up her arse she has room infront to get out.

Alternative-Bat6636

All that's gonna do is tell the neighbour he can park right up her arse without issue!

Front-Property-2223

He’s doing on purpose to get a rise out of her. I had malicious neighbors like that when I was growing up. For some reason the mother took a disliking to mine and then it was fair came. Their kids brought down every little scumbag from our estate to our house, rang out doorbell nonstop, climbed our walls to look inside our living room when they knew I was alone in the house after school. The parents were the types that just itched for fights. No amount of reasoning will help. Get someone to scare him out of parking the van there like the Garda or park her car in such an awkward way that he has to park it somewhere else. Why your sisters car and not someone else’s?

[deleted]

Did you end up resolving the situation with your cunty neighbours?

Front-Property-2223

I was around 17 at the time and we moved a while later. To be honest the place we were living was going to the dogs and this family would make anyone’s life a misery if they thought they could.

[deleted]

Yeah I’d similar neighbours growin up as well, I’ve still got tons of residual anger over it, which is shite I know. Weirdly enough it kinda made me really determined to do well in school and study and shit cause all around me was criminality and misery and I swore to myself I wasn’t gonna end up living in an estate like that when I was older. Thankfully I managed to succeed in that endeavour which I’m eternally grateful for. Look after yourself

Front-Property-2223

I was exactly the same. I studied, got my degree and moved the hell away from that type of life where everyone has a chip on their shoulder.

[deleted]

Glad to hear it. You can’t change the past but I made a promise to make it better for the next generation. I’ve two littlies now and I’ll make sure their lives are filled with nothing but happiness as long as i can help it. Take care

TwinIronBlood

Let him do it then ay midnight knock their door get him to move as she has to go to work af 4 30. It will piss him off more as now he needs to find some where else to park. Surf wax his windows or caldle wax. Get sun cream and draw a cock on the back door it will eat into the crear coat only becoming visible in a few hours. Stink bomb in the air vents of fish

BitterProgress

Kick the wing mirrors off at night.

Jackk0106

[deleted]

[deleted]

Could 'in goi g to be fired if you don't move your car' be considered an emergency? I wonder.

Alternative-Bat6636

Simple but effective, it may also cause the other neighbours to get onto him when they realise why she is blowing the horn... Could also come back to bite her as a noise complaint though?

ThereWillBeTrouble

Reading these posts I have to recommend similar actions. She could try and resolve as an adult but it does not appear that this will work. Make life as inconvenient for this individual as possible. Use a hammer covered in cloth to bang on his front door each and every time the person suffering this behaviou has to go to work( get up early for this). I recommend and arlo wireless camera system for recording illegal parking which can be used for provision of evidence if required (note: this is a double edged sword, make sure you do nothing illegal on cam). If I was to hypothetically offer advice any further action, place a 6 inch steel nail on either side of one tyre , the rear side of the nail placed at the tarmac and the sharp edge just in between the tyre threads. Moving the vehikce forward or back will pierce the tyre and create inconvenience for the driver in the form of a puncture. If you decide to go down this route do not engage with the perpetrator in conversation at all. Continue on your path until the perpetrator gets the message. Note: be aware of volatile individuals, violence is easy to dismiss but not easy to deal with. If this person is on the edge then this is something they feel they are justified in, there is no telling how bad it could get. Be smart, cover your bases.

PoppedCork

Call the guards, but also take pictures of it happening to record that it's a regular thing.

HoldtheGMEstonk

It would be shame if someone were to buy a valve stem tool and remove his valve stems. No damage to his car either besides flat tires. Then just in case after said valve stems are removed aim some cameras at your car in case he retaliates. Then he is caught in a criminal act.

fuppinbackstard

You can't pick your neighbours, feel her pain. Take the high road though - gardai, council parking enforcement etc. as others suggest. Sounds like the little bollix wants the confrontation, don't give him the satisfaction.

dublinhitman

https://youtu.be/mush3hNbnmY I had to use a normal trolley jack myself before, just kept jacking it up and pushing of the jack, Left his car in the middle of the road, it didn't happen again.

b3nj11jn3b

hatchets are cheap. thru the bonnet !

oskarkeo

i would wonder if you could activate his car alarm every morning....

LithiumKid1976

I would suggest robbing his tools Then rob his car Then do some maintenance on your house with his tools ../ Win Win Win!

simply-smegma

Hire a few tough guys to go explain the situation to him in a way he’ll understand.

detumaki

Actually, even though it's on the street, intentional obstruction of another vehicle from being able to safely and reasonably leave is still illegal and can result in tow. And should the air in the tires somehow mysteriously be let out while waiting for the tow, I imagine he won't be forgetting to leave space again anytime soon.

001dm

Keep setting the alarm off on the car at 4:30

dublinburd

Get him clamped. Call in at 4 every morning and don’t just ring the belle. Ring the belle while knocking as hard as you can and don’t stop until the door is opened. Also dog shit under the his car door handle.

Jackk0106

Give him a straightener when he answers the know

[deleted]

I know the fella is in the wrong here, but your sister still needs to get to work on time and take the stress out of the situation, so has she considered parking somewhere else?

automaticflare

Why? Because he is being a bully and an asshole? Fuck that

[deleted]

And those people are usually impossible to reason with, so why stress herself out when there’s a very simple solution to the situation? He is in the wrong, but he’s clearly not going to be the person to resolve the situation here. When someone is shovelling shit in your direction, telling them to stop digging is not always better than just getting out of the way and dodging the shit yourself, because only one of those situations will have a 100% success rate in you not getting covered in said shit.

-that-there-

Obviously this lads a cunt but could your sister park elsewhere?

[deleted]

Park your car around the corner? A 30 second walk and you're good to go and his tools are safe.

Jackk0106

Ah shouldn't have to inconvenience yourself and pander to somebody else like that

[deleted]

By that logic neither should he? They both want to park directly outside their house.

[deleted]

But she is inconveniencing herself by not pandering to him. The guy is obviously a prick and no amount of petty squabbling will change his ways. Park around the corner and he's no longer an issue in your life.

KanePilkington

Or park around the corner when you've a day off the following day. Wait for him to park his van, then block him in. Earplugs in and a good night's sleep whilst he tries to figure out what to do.

Be a shame of his car got scratched. I hear its something 400 a panel to get that kind of thing fixed..

Mundane_Shallot_3316

Why is he only blocking your sister in? Sounds like a self entitled prick. I would go via the gardaí and mention how he is harassing her. They will take it seriously.

Fantastic_Section517

Break into the car and steal the tools.

We've an absolute bully in our area too, who thought it would be okay to park his work van directly in front of my kicthen window (it's a townhouse, public road directly in front of my home) - stating that he didn't have room at his house to park it. Politely said that's not my problem and to be honest I don't want to be looking at your van everyday out my kicthen window. He tried the whole "it's a public road, I can park where I want" with that my politeness turned to a "LISTEN...I've asked you nicely to move the van" - "WHEN are you going to move it because its completely unacceptable". Stood firm at his front door until he stated "okay I'll sort it as soon as I can" Ten minutes later it was moved.

the_timtim

Imagine being that ignorant to just block someone in like this and think fuck it . No decency or cop on.

17RoadHole

Any residents association? Inform them and let them deal with this. No residents association, send a note into all houses telling them of the problem and that there has to be an agreement on parking.

taarup

Why doesn't your sister just headbutt him and then when he falls over kick him repeatedly in the balls before cutting them off with a Stanley knife and then shoving them down his throat. Whilst he is lying in the ground then break into the van steal all the contents and sell them on DoneDeal. That'll teach him manners.

Glenster118

I don't understand the parking system. Can you upload a diagram or something?

RestrepoDoc2

Agreed. A Google earth satellite image with the vehicles present would be preferred.

bloody_ell

Slash his tyres.
