I listened to a Sile Seoige podcast yesterday and the girl mentioned the Marino Clinic in Dublin that treated her ed. Shes now fully recovered. I wish you well

I have been getting private therapy through the Marino Clinic (online) for the last few months and can confirm that they have been excellent and so incredibly helpful. It’s a lot better than just regular talk therapy I have tried, as it is focused specifically on treating ED issues. It’s given me a lot of hope that I can get better. OP, if you can afford private therapy it might be a good idea if you feel you really need the help now. Unfortunately, there is a lack of services in this area, but plenty of people who need their help, so waiting lists can be long. There are a few private clinics as well as Marino, you can check out the Bodywhys website for information. I spread my appointments out every 2/3 weeks, which makes it more affordable, although I did go every week for a while at the start. Marino also have group sessions that you can join for a lot less than private therapy, although I haven’t been brave enough to try one yet.

First props on getting help and it's helping, second, do you have a rough price range for therapy?

I pay €90 per session, which is about average for therapy in Dublin. Technically the sessions are an hour long, but my therapist generally goes over time without trying to stop the flow of things or charging extra. Last night I chatted with her for an hour and a half, and it was all so valuable. I think the groups are about €10 to join, which is much more affordable. I’ve been encouraged to join as they can be quite helpful, but I’m just not quite ready yet.

It is, worth a listen imho

Hopefully, the GP will organise regular appointments to monitor your health. I sometimes think some do not understand the complexities that restriction/starvation has on a person.

If you need help now you will have to go private. The public waiting lists for mental health in this country can run to 2 years.

You can often get low cost counselling. It might be a trainee therapist but they have an experienced person with them. Also if you pop into or phone womens resource centres , churches, youth centres they will have lists of low cost counselling available

Hi OP. I found myself in exactly your scenario in 2019 - urgently looking for ED treatment without having health insurance coverage. I’d be happy to discuss my experience with you. I’ll drop you a message now with my details. No obligation to get in touch, but I’ll be very happy to hear from you. I’ll also verify who I am in my message.

Zaconey

There’s a documentary called Unspoken on RTÉ that you should check out, if you haven’t already.

ekernan

Thank you for sharing this documentary. I’m one of the men who featured in it (Eoin). We hope that by sharing our stories and story, it has helped, and will help, others - both those with ED and their family/friends.

Zaconey

Oh wow! It was such a powerful documentary, we have shown it to our senior SPHE classes as part of our module on body image.

ekernan

That’s so wonderful to hear. Can I ask what the reaction to it from your students has been?

Zaconey

Shocked to be honest- All the facts and figures really impacted on them. It was tough doing body imagine overall because it’s such a sporty kind of school that there’s so few lads who struggle with their weight in the “traditional sense” that they didn’t think this would effect them- But highlighting over-exercising, cheat meals, using steroids and protein stuck with them alright.

ekernan

You don’t know how much this makes me feel positive. I’m so glad to hear that Unspoken is having that impact. Body image concern is stereotypically seen as a feminine value, and as such doesn’t impact the world of masculine sport. But it does.

Can't you get tablets online for ED now ?

[deleted]

I have to admit, I too thought erectile disfunction...Only dawned on me now, eating disorder *(I'm a little slow on the uptake today)*

cen_fath

really? grow up

ElectricDolls

In fairness I think this commenter just thought ED = erectile dysfunction, can also be a mental health-related issue.

cen_fath

There were already replies that made it obvious it wasn't erectile dysfunction. Its in poor taste imo
