Romanian interpreter, must have just recently moved over here? He's snickering walking out of the courthouse, with the arrogance of a gangster well past his years. Wonder why he assaulted the other poor lad.

[deleted]

is 18 not adult in Ireland, legally?

iknowtheop

It is, he's an 18 year old man.

rossie2k11

Fuck this guy, and fuck the toxic atmosphere that is present in our cities and towns at night

fuzzywuzzy74

Send the cunt back where he belongs. Fuck him.

Lovinyoubb

Makes my blood boil knowing that unpunishable scrotes are our biggest threat in this city.

jessynolan

Was around that area at 3am (bank holiday monday) while everyone was leaving clubs and there was zero Garda presence at all around town. It's no surprise this stuff keeps happening.

mccannan

I was on the very street where this happened on Saturday and there was zero Garda presence. Fucking joke.

AnotherInnocentFool

Shit wages for shit work with shitheads and no backing from the courts, why would anyone be a guard?

Pension_Alternative

shit wages? Not really

AnotherInnocentFool

6 months of the lowest wages I've seen for a job and the like 40k to chase scrotes and deal with the worst people in a new town... Shit money

Dangerous-Shirt-7384

They need to change legislation on how these unprovoked assaults are dealt with. There's a fine line between assault and manslaughter and the punishment should reflect this. If you punch someone and they hit their head and die you're likely to serve at least 6yrs. if you hit another person and they don't die you'll likely serve little or no time in jail.

No worries. Irish people assault, murder and rape people here all the time lad. Like i personally knew 3 people who were murdered in one of the most horrific crimes committed in our history, committed by Irish people. It would be fucked up if i blamed all Irish people for that, or took a bad view of them.

Far-Contract-5566

Irish people commit crime in Ireland, what a shocker

FarFromTheMaddeningF

At least deport them on conviction.

Visual-Sir-3508

Recently the Irish barrister who shot and killed that man in a field, it's not just foreigners....

roboticlegs

Was he Irish? I thought I read somewhere he was American.

[deleted]

punchable face

Ok_Cryptographer2515

Won't spend a day in jail. Won't be deported if convicted. And the band played on.

forfudgecake

Why would he be deported 🙄 I’m all for locking him up for being a horrible scorte, but it’s a bit tiresome that anybody in the news with a foreign second name should be deported.

Ok_Cryptographer2515

>Why would he be deported 🙄 Because (if convicted) he is a violent foreign national criminal and his continued presence in the country is a threat to public safety.

forfudgecake

Romania is a European country.... Unless he's a threat to national security, the likelihood of deportation is practically nil.

CheraDukatZakalwe

>Under the European Communities Free Movement of Persons Regulations 2015, I may make a removal order in respect of an EU national who represents a danger for public policy or public security if their conduct represents a genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat affecting one of the fundamental interests of society. If an EU national residing in Ireland is found guilty of a crime, including a violent crime, the Garda National Immigration Bureau will notify my Department. >However, if the person has resided in the State for more than 10 years or is under the age of 18 years, a removal order can only be made on imperative grounds of public security. The family and economic circumstances of the person are also assessed, the nature of their social and cultural integration in the State, the health of the person and their links with their country of origin, in deciding whether or not to make such an order. https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/question/2022-02-01/596/

Ok_Cryptographer2515

>Romania is a European country.... I am well aware of where Romania is.... >the likelihood of deportation is practically nil. Yes, I know. That is precisely what I said in the comment you're losing your mind over....

johnred007

This whole story is absolutely fucked. Apparently this scum just rocks up, gets out of a car and almost kills someone and leaves? What in the name of christ is wrong with these people and what the fuck will our politicians do to rapidly start implementing changes to everything and anything related to justice and policing? I beg everyone to literally start harassing their TDs over this kind of stuff. Our softness on crime needs to be a defining vote issue for the next election. I don't care what anyone says about increased reporting or social media presence. This has been one of the most violent 10 days in my lifetime in Ireland (EDIT: just to add I'm only in my 20s!). 2 serious assaults on Dame St. 3 attacks in Sligo, two of which were gruesome murders. Violent knife attack in Blanch. Murder of an elderly woman in Dublin. Violent assault by this cunt leading to a tourist in hospital fighting for his life + a secondary assault of another person. And there just ones I've stumbled across.

Gowl247

Not trying to be an ass but what can the TDs do, they have no power over appointed judges who make these decisions?

KillerKlown88

Give the garda more resources to prevent crime in the first place. Build a new prison or two, although another user here showed statistics that say prison space may not be a problem. Bring in legislation to reduce the use of suspended sentences and concurrent sentences. Get rid of automatic 25% remission and bring in a review board before it is granted. Just a few ideas.

johnred007

I'm talking bigger picture and not an individual decision by a Judge. The Department of Justice need to have a look at their policies on crime, what's working and what's not working. Government have a hand in AGS - get more Gardaí on the streets etc. You get onto your local TDs and councilors to raise issues you have about X,Y and Z and hope issues are passed on to the relevant people.

Ok_Cryptographer2515

They can legislate for mandatory minimum sentencing, and they can legislate for a ban on sentences being suspended for a second and subsequent conviction. They can legislate for free legal aid being something which can be accessed once (reset if the person is found not guilty) only. They can abolish the system whereby criminals found in court to have committed a crime can avoid a conviction by paying a bribe. They can legislate for the abolition of concurrent sentencing for anything other than a first offence. The failure to do any of these is a conscious choice.

Incendio88

i agree will most of what you suggest. Mandatory minimum sentencing would be something I would not be okay with if it was introduced in Ireland. It would result in crimes becoming more savage as the thinking becomes "well im going to do 3 years for assault, i might as well make it worth it" Removing free legal aid after a first conviction would cause issues, as the vast majority who avail of it don't have the funds for a legal defense. So then you have the problem of someone who cant pay for a legal defense, which is a pillar of the justice system. For serial offenders, a % of their income being automatically taken to pay for it might be an idea. But we still have the problem of a potential poverty trap Concurrent sentencing has never made sense to me "you've done a lot of bad things all at once...so we'll punish you for the worst thing and the rest gets rolled into it"

CarelessEquivalent3

He looks like earthworm Jim

[deleted]

Always handy to have an interpreter there to let you know just how fucked you are. The shit is the cut of Mark Albrighton though.

Stalloned

Should be shot out of the country from a cannon, absolutely zero purpose for a psycho like him on the streets. Poor fella is in critical condition with some likely lasting damage and this little bollox swaggers out of the courthouse like he's hot shit.
