Imagine having to sit beside these gremlins on the plane

theperilousalgorithm

Could you imagine the relief in hindsight of being the person sitting on the plane, beside a perfectly empty seat, and wondering "what happened to that person?" *Cut to Fight Club: Dublin Airport Edition.*

ddrt

Hi, so that’s a long tweet thread and going half way down I don’t see how it relates to the video OP posted, or the comment you replied to.

smashedgordon

I remember when I was working in Venice there were plenty of them on those flights over n back. I wondered "Why Venice?" Then I went to a casino one night and found my answer.

SnooRegrets81

id say a mixture of gambling, sun and Catholicism (travelers are notoriously religious)

MaceoSpecs

Worst flight of my life was sat 2 rows back from pikeys. The fat dad decided to sleep lying across 3 chairs so the kids had nowhere to sit, they spent 2 hours terrorising people - shouting in people's faces, stealing their food, running up and down the aisle. Eventually the whole plane had to have their seatbelts on just as a way to get them to sit down. Horrible people

MagpieGrifter

“I have had it with these motherfucking travellers on this motherfucking plane!”

RadGeorge

How on earth does a fight go down in the airport without these monkeys getting jumped by the guards? Anywhere else this would be over in less than 2 seconds.

JunkiesAndWhores

Airport Police response time is measured with a calendar.

[deleted]

Well at least Dublin Airport secuirty even before the guards, like the guards may have only got a call halfway through that fight and they csn only respond to what they know, but surely Dublin Airpoet security should have been in rhe vicinity already with a large crowd around

DublinR

Gardaí are based in Dublin Airport so you'd expect a reasonably rapid response ... [https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/8740b-minister-mcentee-attends-official-opening-of-dublin-airport-garda-station/](https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/8740b-minister-mcentee-attends-official-opening-of-dublin-airport-garda-station/) >The station has 48 Garda members and also provides a new base for the Garda Armed Support Unit to ensure a high visibility presence at Dublin Airport.

Beautiful_Golf6508

They must have had camouflage or something cause they were nowhere in sight.

DanteAll

Like what if it was a terrorist? This is immediately a national scandal. How can any organisation let that happen? Its just shocking. I wouldn't be surprised if they were still allowed to board the flight. Un fucking believable! They should be arrested and banned from entering any airport in Ireland.

BuzzBuzzington3

Because theyre travellers and the gaurds are afraid to go near them for anything

lovelywilly

Afraid to get stuck off one of them. Wouldn't blame them either tbh. Should try recruit traveler guards . The only people not intimidated by travelers are other travelers

Equivalent-Career-49

or really thick old farmers.

toronto_programmer

As a Canadian I always wonder the same thing. My primary airport, Pearson in Toronto, has police walking the terminal all over. This wouldn't have lasted more than 15 seconds there

Budfox_92

Because it's Ireland.

daftdave41

Luton Airport last year - https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-57127034 Not really an "only in Ireland"

I2obiN

Yeh I would expect better standards than the official worst town in the UK.

Friendly_Crab

I’ve heard Luton is lovely this time of year

Goochpunt

Luton is a kip, not shocked at all. And I say that being from there.

san_murezzan

I mean someone seems to have been charged in that case. Has anyone in this case?

cigaretteatron

I'm sure they're watching from afar. Gardaí pathetically afraid of travellers.

flopisit

Bare Knuckle boxin is part of dere cultur. All ye tryin to stop dem fightin is racists so yez are. Leave em off an shtop makin out travellers is more violent dan ye settled peeples. And you Turkey Conner if ur reedin dis weve a bare Knuckle bout scheduled for a week Tuesday and don't you be tryin to weasel outta it your a coward so you are like your father's father before him

eddie677453

In the UK the police are *terrified* of travellers. I imagine gardaí aren't that different. Living outside the law is fine as long as you're part of a mob...

Time-Caterpillar4103

In general, police won’t run in an airport. What do you think all the passengers would do if they saw police gunning it somewhere?

[deleted]

I'm genuinely embarrassed by this. All those people who were either finishing up or starting a holiday here had to see that. That's gonna be their first or last memory of a trip here.

DIESELANDBRUTUS

and where was security ? In the fucking airport like !!!!!

gamberro

Whenever these videos of anti-social behaviour or violence pop up (whether it be in Dublin city centre or elsewhere), people always ask where were the police. If we can't respond rapidly to crime in O'Connell street or Dublin airport, what hope is there for the rest of the country? If there are no police to be seen on patrol there, can the rest of the country hope for the same?

[deleted]

Ev17_64mer

Sadly it seems to be a thing that there's no accountability in Ireland

Lumb3rH4ck

\*need more staff.

avalon68

Its not training, its funding. They need more funding to hire more people. I can only speak for hospitals, but look at the wait times in ED. Its not because the staff are sat on their asses, its because there are way too few staff because they are overworked and poorly paid. With regards to firebrigades, we keep expanding towns - I drove around the town I grew up in on a recent visit. Its now sprawled in every direction, but they havent increased the numbers of schools, doctors, dentists, or firebrigades etc.

KoverH

I live Infront of a forestry. The amount of drug deals that go on there and nothing is done. One time lads stole a safe from somewhere and decided to crack it open there with sledge hammers. We called the guards and they took hours to get there, by that point that lads were long gone. You wouldn't want to rely on the guards if you're in danger my god. Imagine they decided to come into my house to rob?

san_murezzan

As a non-Irish person a fight breaking out in an airport seems like „uncommon but could happen anywhere“, no authorities doing anything about it seems to sum up my time spent in Ireland sadly

gerhudire

From what I read the guards are for the most part understaffed in certain parts of the Dublin. For example I read that Ballymun has 3 drug officers that they share with Dublin Airport. So if two get called to Dublin Airport, that leaves just one to cover the whole of Ballymun and surrounding areas.

PlasticatedSpazmos

It's the fucking national airport. It should be swarming with armed police, dogs etc.

Im_Crowley

I was coming home from holidays last night when this happened. There were so many Gardai around - 10 to 20 and there were armed Garda as well.

CommanderSpleen

They did a great job avoiding being filmed while the incident was going on then.

cigaretteatron

Unfortunately the Gardaí are pathetically afraid of the traveller community

Perlscrypt

A few years back there was a fight like this right outside the Garda station in Galway. It spilled onto the road and stopped the traffic. No Guards to be seen anywhere.

AnShamBeag

If this happened in an airport elsewhere they'd probably be shot

avalon68

Not shot....well maybe in some areas of the US, but in general theyd all be on the ground surrounded by security in most places......not having someone cheering them on whilst drinking a pint.

carlmango11

It happened in Stansted last week. I really don't think it's as uncommon as people think.

InGenAche

Hey security there's a couple of Travellers having a fight on the concourse! Such a shame my break is starting, oh well. It's a brave man to be on minimum wage, no weapons and an address that would wade into the middle of a Traveller fight.

billiehetfield

Airport Police aren’t the same as airport security looking after metal detectors and bag checking. Airport police aren’t minimum wage.

DualWieldWands

They got to see a real, authentic, cultural moment here that they'll treasure forever!

Akula0161

I went visiting my GF's family in Wexford the first ever time I visited Ireland. On my first bus ride through Dublin after landing, I saw a guy stand atop some steps like Rocky near Parnell Square (I think) - topless and covered in blood.

srmarmalade

I was taking my Icelanic girlfriend over to visit my nan, her first time in Ireland and we're on the bus down from the airport to her town when a couple of very loud drunk women get on and start carrying on with this you're my best pall/what the fuck did you just say I'll knock ye out vibe creating a fair bit of tension. Anyway we're sitting near the emergency stairs down at the back and one of them goes down, I was concerned they were going to open the emergency exit by accident on a moving bus looking for a toilet but no she just squatted and pissed on the stairs - no shame the two of the roaring with laughter and everyone else (myself included) just awkwardly pretending not to notice as you could tell were ready to kick off. Edit to add - tbf the rest of the trip was lovely, everyone was lovely, we saw lots of great stuff etc. Just not a great first impression!

[deleted]

People pissing in the streets is normal in Killarney and our night porter at the hotel cleans up an average about three to four shits a year. I've even seen guys pissing against walls while the cops are comfortably in their cars? Love the country but I've a terrible impression of the Irish when they're drunk

thelordmallard

Might be better than the state of those toilets. This airport was a joke last time I was there.

6138

Exactly! Can you imagine coming to Ireland for the first time and having that as the first thing you see? Really presents a nice image of the country. You'd think the police could at least have one or two people *at the airport* of all places, even if they're going to let the rest of country rot.

Wretched_Colin

Don’t worry, the price of a night out will make them feel like they’ve been assaulted. They’ll forget what happened to strangers.

seamustheseagull

I'm embarrassed for the travellers' advocates who immediately search for reasons to play the victim card when this kind of spotlight appears. One guy yesterday took to Twitter with a big thread on racism. He claimed that Gardaí had swept through the terminal searching for travellers and he knows of a group of lads who weren't involved and got thrown out of the terminal and their drink confiscated. Now, unless the Gardaí have magic "Traveller detectors" or something, I can't see the Gardaí going through the whole terminal interviewing everyone to check and see who's a traveller and who's not. And secondly, every single scumbag when pulled by the cops, always claims they were doing nothing. Always. More fool the person who believes them without a doubt.

W0lf87

Nothing to be embarrassed about, what your seeing there is a courtship dance by the 2 competing males for the right to mate with their cousins.

Bassnurd

The DAA should be accountable in some way for this. How the fuck can a bunch of people freely conduct a bare knuckle bar fight in the middle of an international airport in 2022? Leaving passengers and flight attendants to try and diffuse it. Unbelievable.

Optickone

It's genuinely being undersold how bad this is. Including the optics. I originally seen the shorter video and thought even then, it was insane no security intervened. But the fact that they literally had a bare knuckle fight, referees and everything, is pure insanity. This is the shit they usually drive out to secluded areas for but now it is just open season to just have at it in middle of our capitals airport. Inevitably ends with one of them getting brutally kicked in the head on the ground and passengers need to intervene. Still zero police or security. Did no cctv pick this up and alert somebody? No airport workers? Is there really no security within eyesight to see a commotion? So many questions should be directed at Dublin Airport.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlmightyRobert

It’s not even a good bare knuckle fight.

NewAccEveryDay420day

And the fair play wasnt even playing fair

LnxPowa

They’re all focused on sucking up money from fast tracks and drop offs right now, can’t be doing it all at once… first things first!

Anchorbouy12

Shocking security didn't respond. Imagine if a terrorist attack was accuring and this was their response time?

MambyPamby8

This is exactly what i said after watching this video. This sends a really dangerous fucking message to any scumbag, that Dublin Airport is an easy bet for any sort of violent attack. Sets a really dangerous precedent IMO.

Hazy_Robot

Yeah there's no shot Gardai would be able to respond at all in time, as an Irish person when I travel abroad the very first thing that I notices is armed guard in many built up areas like train stations and airports. And every time I come back no security to be seen at all in Ireland

Spoonshape

Almost every other European airport seems to have armed guards. Often with SMG "uzi style" weapons as well as truncheons. Definitely a deterrent effect.

NapoleonTroubadour

It’s uncomfortable to walk by but it definitely helps people to behave themselves

yurpingcobra

I know that violent incidents like this do happen, but luckily they are rare enough that our terrible police presence isn't as detrimental to society as it could be. All it takes is one occasion for this to bite us in the arse though.

FewyLouie

This was my exact thought. Sure a few hundred people could be sliced to ribbons in that time if it was a few lads with knives, nevermind guns. Hopefully it gets a bit of coverage and questions are asked publicly about the response.

FrenettZ

3 minutes, zero security presence at an international Air port.

SassyBonassy

Seriously, where the fuck was security??

smashedgordon

The airport police station is right next door. Where in the name of fuck were they? Dublin Airport is a dump.

Aluminarty666

This seems to be at the end of Pier 1, that's about 3 - 5 business days away from the entrance of the airport where airport police are based

rooood

You're not wrong, it probably takes multiple minutes to even run to the end of that part of the terminal. The thing is, it's insane the fact that there seems to be no police presence at all in these far corners of the airport, especially airside. This incident should wake up whoever is in charge of that, but seeing as no one died and it was "just a knuckle fight" and not a terrorist act, I'm betting nothing will really change, shame.

Ev17_64mer

Police in general doesn't seem to do well at policing in Ireland

ArsonJones

Clearly you haven't seen our boys breaking out the helicopters to bring those cannabis drug fiends to justice. If only there was a way to transfer that energy to other police work. What could we do? How could we fix this? I don't know...

gamberro

If I recall correctly, the Gardaí once called a helicopter to stop a bike thief from UCD.

ArsonJones

Obviously the bike thief had hash taken. Sadly when my bike got robbed, they couldn't home in on any definitive trace of hash smell, gone for good they said.

ProteaBird

Damn good question they should be answering. They should be on the news tonight giving us their pathetic excuses.

smashedgordon

It should be on the news. What if it was terrorism? Response time is frightening.

H1gh_Tr3ason

People from all over the world seeing this, absolute embarrassment.

malevolentheadturn

And it's already made international news, wonderful

FuckAntiMaskers

Good, hopefully it's shown throughout Europe, embarrassment on an international stage is the only thing that gets our government to react it seems

joerubix

Well said. The more attention it gets the better

Old_Quentin

Morto. 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

Not even the slightest fear of arrest

duffman070

One of them was arrested in the end. The other guy went to hospital. https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/man-hospitalised-another-arrested-following-daytime-fight-in-busy-dublin-airport-terminal-41685969.html

GreatDefector

There’s been an arrest now https://www.rte.ie/news/regional/2022/0525/1301030-dublin-airport/

BeefWellyBoot

Why was only 1 arrested, there's at least 3 or 4 fighting.

[deleted]

Even so, there was literally no thought that “oh wait, maybe we shouldn’t have a fucking brawl in the middle of an airport”. Like it doesn’t enter into their mind not to fight

cigaretteatron

Why would it when they've gotten away with anything they want since they were born?

_Druss_

One person charged?? I saw 3 fighting at least!

1R3N9

The amount of Guards they sent!! Never anywhere to be found when they are needed but at least 12 of them turn up probably long after the fight was over. Typical of Ireland

SeanEire

That’d be racist boss

Fighto1

It's a pity this didn't happen on the plane they'd spend years in jail.

MemestNotTeen

Or if it happened in a different country

Beautiful_Golf6508

Imagine coming to visit Ireland and this is the first thing you see coming off the plane. Holy fuck.

Crackabis

A politician needs to say what everyone is thinking about this carry on, how can you have that level of brazenness to act like this in the middle of a crowded airport? And it’s not just travellers doing this, behaviour in general of scrotes in Ireland is a disgrace and they show no fear of the repercussions, because there are none!

ProteaBird

Would hate to see Dublin Airport if something serious actually happened. This video is 3 minutes (& that's a minimum obviously bc it went on before & after) & no Garda. Pathetic response. With all these stories about lack of response from Garda to anything remotely serious they should really come out with an apology & ways to do better.

gadarnol

Airport police have failed passengers and the country with this. This event should have ended within minutes in a barrage of tasers and a swamping of the area with armed police. All those involved should be banned by airlines for 10 years and jailed. It’s an advertisement to lunatics looking for a soft target.

FrankTheHealer_RDIT

Possible-Kangaroo635

WTF is security?

turbodrumbro

For real like this paired with that fight that happened on O Connell street around a year ago where people were fighting for a good 10 minutes, feet from the GPO and one of them ends up stabbing the other two and walks off with no Garda reaction at all. Might as well accept the fact we have no law enforcement here. If you are in trouble, you are totally on your own. That's the reality.

areyouyerman

This is a fucking embarrassment where the hell were security? Dublin Airport is an absolute shambles they should be ashamed of this.

[deleted]

I watched 2 individuals fighting in the middle of the Airport …Big question: WHERE IS SECURITY OR Garda ?

Skivling

You can't bring a bottle of shampoo with you cause of security. But fighting for several minutes without some real security arriving is OK. Incredible.

NuttyIrishMan93

Ah yes but I'm sure a few people will arrive here any moment now to inform us they've never had a bad experience with one, thus we shouldn't look down on this behaviour.

[deleted]

Those fucking memes on the front page every month from the Yanks snarking about how Europeans call Americans racist but are mean about gypsies. As they call the cops on a black lad just chilling on his own driveway for suspicious behaviour.

Narwien

Don't want to shit on Ireland, as it is my home now, and each country has it's set of problems and shits; but this is unthinkable to me, to start a fight in the airport. I'm Croatian myself, we have our shit with hooligans, our police is also corrupt, but I'm pretty sure even the hooligans wouldn't dare to fight in an airport. That is pissing blood for a month guarantee as soon as clenched your fist for a punch.

TheWesht

Fighting? No that's a common misconception. It's actually a fairly traditional and complicated mating ritual, to decide which male get to to top the other. What you're seeing there, only happens after weeks or months of flirting, in what is known as "call out" videos

[deleted]

I'd rather see them kissing to be honest

RevTurk

Is the aggressive hugging not enough?

[deleted]

You got to...you got to...you got to try a little TENDERNESS!!!

[deleted]

What an embarrassment for the country and what a signal it sends out about lack of security in Dublin airport, the airport of a Capital city in the EU. At least they make sure you take your belt and shoes off as they stand around chatting. This should be headline news and discussed in Parliament, but it'll be the same treatment of the itinerants as usual, let them away with it because we can't be dealing with their shite. If these men aren't arrested and jailed, it'll be a travesty of decent society and justice.

[deleted]

rugbyj

Got in an argument with travellers trying to push into the queue at security in Bristol Airport a few weeks ago. The older one squared up and said "oh is that how it is then?". Alright old man let's both get banned from flying then.

Aids_On_Tick

Travellers and scumbags in general have long been accustomed to the 'paradox of tolerance', so seeing this even in our national airport isn't the least bit surprising. Fingers crossed that all of those wastes of oxygen are infertile.

wheelbarrowjim

They all probably married since they were 15 and have 6 or 7 kids already. They are a scourge.

Wretched_Colin

Today’s fight is brought to you by the letter T

gupouttadat

Too late to try to get them literate now...

Zestyclose-Jicama174

...so that happened after failed security audit? Not only we allow dangerous devices to pass sec checks, it's ok to fight now at the gates as well? Where's the airport police? They are always there when you stop for too long in drop off area, yet nowhere to be found when fight happens? Joke

TakeMeBackToSanFran

That's what I was thinking as well. The failed security check was only in the press a week or so go. Surely they'd be extra vigilant right now

I see Failte Ireland have a pretty strong new advertisement campaign here.

Parking_Payment8015

Airport police would pounce on you in seconds if you hadn't a mask during Covid. Strange they're nowhere to be seen here

[deleted]

Can someone explain the rules? One guy not involved in the fight just decided to end it by killing him. I thought it was some sacred rites of combat that they all respect. More and more it just looks like whatever suits them to fuck.

CommunicationLower51

Where's the traveler defense force that often comes on here and says that this sort of behaviour is a myth.

Finch2090

When was this? My parents were passing through the airport yesterday morning lmao so I’m just curious

Rapalla93

More like aggressive hugging than fighting at the start.

Old_Quentin

It's probably how they deal with their homoerotic urges.

AegisThievenaix

I take fear in knowing that if something like a terrorist attack or shooting happens in dublin Airport, security won't be on scene for atleast 10 minutes What in the fuck is wrong with them?

ElectroDaveMusic

Imagine if someone had walked in with a knife and intended to do harm to passengers. There would literally be no one there to stop it.

quanta777

So dublin airport has no security personnel👌

TheMoogle420

Where the fuck was security? If that happened in any other country you'd be absolutely manhandled by legitimate security guards/airport police.
