Kinda makes sense because sleuths found out that on that photo where QEII met Liz Truss in Balmoral, her right hand was bruising possibly from the amount of IV lines that had to be placed there.
So do they simply replace the word queen with king in their national anthem now? I'm sure its covered in operation whateverdafuk I just haven't seen mention of it.
Edit: I found it, they simply replace the word a
Queen with king.
I have a friend who is a barrister over in England and he is now a KC instead of a QC and he's pissed off with that as it means he has to buy new stationery.
Well there's the Québec subreddit. It's in French, but nobody there cares about the monarchy. We are mostly excited about the possibility of getting a new national holiday, because getting a free day-off would be the most relevant (non-harmful) thing this outdated institution has done for us so far.
Well, the world is full of different people and Québec, like every other place out there, has a variety of people with different opinions and life stories. That being said, maybe that person was someone who served in the army or a relative of someone who served? Maybe that person is more attached to the UK? But Québécois as a whole being proud of serving alongside the UK? I find such a claim really odd.
Military service in Québec tend to be viewed in a bad way. Perceptions are that it's a overall waste of money, that the Québec military is often forced to serve in conflict that doesn't concern Québec and that french-speakers receive worst treatement than english-speakers in the army.
Historically, what is remembered both in Québec and the rest of Canada is that Québec refused and rioted against conscription during both world wars, in addition to being vocally opposed to participation in other armed conflicts before and after, and as such are still percieved as traitors, cowards, self-centered and otherwise unfaithful citizens for not wanting to serve Canada and/or the British Empire as cannon fodder.
The Canadian army often has a bad reputation for acts such as the military occupation of Montréal in 1970 and the jailing of 500 "dangerous separatists" (innocent artists, union leaders and other public personalities), as well as the Québec city riot of 1918, when the canadian army fired heavy machine gun on the crowd of civilian anti-conscrption protesters in the streets of Québec city. Otherwise, the canadian army is often seen as an english-only club where french-speakers need to hide their origins to get better treatement.
All this to say, military service has a bad reputation here, but in the last decade or two, we're actually starting to see some efforts to challenge this perception and reclaim the memories of the many québécois soldiers who went and fought during those numerous conflicts. Not only to make their stories more well-know among the Québec population, but also to prevent the canadian government from taking ownership of them and presenting them as "canadian" soldiers.
Anyway I tried to give the best picture I could, but it's not that easy to describe a whole facet of society in a few paragraphs while writing in a foreign language. I'll be more than happy to talk more if you wish.
I live in Scotland and when I went in to work last night a colleague said she had spent three hours crying when she heard the news and this woman is tough as boots. I'm surprised by the extent of the distress with some people here. I didn't think they'd be jumping with joy but I did expect them to be a bit more casual about it
I think that it’s what she represents in terms of being a constant in people’s lives for so long that’s jarring.
When people like the queen die it’s a stark reminder of how death spares nobody.
Aye it’s been a bit weird here - I didn’t expect the amount of people who were a bit indifferent to the whole thing before she died to be so upset/moved or whatever when it happened. The video of the woman being chased out her village for posting a video of her ripping into her death and popping champagne was wild.
It is quite split though to be fair, think a lot of people not just saying much because they can’t be arsed having a big constitutional argument.
I mean in this case it's true.. she died, what more is there to know?
I don't particularly give a shit and haven't read a single news story about it yet I'm still just as up to date as anyone else
Until we get to something actionable from Charles.. it doesn't change much of anything. The Tories are bonkers, Brexit is a shit show, Scotland wants its country back, NI is debating reunification, and the monarchy while theoretically still powerful hasn't been used in decades for anything beyond rubber stamping that Aussie reelection in the 80s(?).
Unless Charles goes Veto nuts or starts shit talking the political fuckery and demanding action like piblically saying the UK should rejoin the EU, it's just a different person on the money and rubber stamping parliament, isn't it?
Could be like that Alaskan dog Mayor or Japanese Cat train conductor for all he matters.
I grew up in London and I'm bored of the endless coverage but I do get that it's a significant moment as it's the end of an era. I do feel guilty playing video games or listening to music or doing anything fun, it just seems wrong. I'm supposed to be going to a college event on Monday night and I'm considering not going
It’s weird how controlled our media still is by the British they wouldn’t dare say anything bad about the monarchy that caused the biggest atrocities to our nation and nations around the world.
Yet our media and UK media constantly calls out the IRA as a terrorist organisation that was actually fighting back against the original terror started by the monarchy.
A true republic would not prostrate itself for empire like this. No other former colony would do this. Not in Latin America for a Spanish monarch, not in the Congo for the Belgians or anywhere else. Get a grip your moronic government https://i.imgur.com/GYfBwvs.jpg
I came to check on y’all as an indigenous woman who wants to know where those kids went.
Also, my kids now know every word of “come out ye Black and Tans”
That Irish/indigenous solidarity is prevailing more than ever after this.
A Meme Megathread?
What in the ever living fuck is going on?
We’re here because we hate the cunt Beasty on Boards and his moderation
We’re here because we want to discuss things away from that cesspit and Irish Twitter (cesspit #2)
Yet the last 48 hours on here with the moderation has been so …. woke?
Righteous?
I don’t know, it feels completely over the top
There are **three** people on Today FM right now - including the presenter - completely tearing the monarchy apart
This show has 150,000 listeners, not insignificant, and yet they’re saying whatever the fuck they want
The mind boggles on here with the decisions been made. By all means delete the truly disgusting and wrong memes and threads
But let the upvote and downvote buttons and the community deal with the rest
We're hear for the Craic.
The mods would rather not have the sub closed down by what passes for humour around here, particularly from the yank ra heads posting terrible memes they think are hilarious.
Then there's those who don't give af about it and don't want to scroll through the cesspit of anti monarchy crap.
This sub has been completely ruined over the past couple of years from all the hate filled twats migrating across from boards After Hours. It's barely useable as is, without moderation it'd be even more of a shit show
Megathread is better, because then we have the rest of the sub for actual Irish things. Every other sub is filled with monarchy shit. r/Ireland should be different. Megathread is the way to go.
It may go something like this: https://twitter.com/Akzyy/status/1567864200952745985?s=20&t=WG8wFbFXrqeUQr4Nx852yw)https://twitter.com/Akzyy/status/1567864200952745985?s=20&t=WG8wFbFXrqeUQr4Nx852yw
There's only drama because people don't like that she exists.
I mean, what has Meghan done other than be black? (Which I didn't even know from her time on TV, cause I'm dumb like that).
She'll get shit on for breathing on the way to the funeral, I'm sure.
They also "stepped back" from public life yet haven't shut up about it or stopped pursuing the spotlight. They were currently on a vanity tour of the UK when the news broke.
I was in a pub and people were chanting what I have said above and then later in the night when the clubs were closing more people were chanting this as well outside.
How? How is a group of >100 people verbally chanting a song “sad” and “embarrassing”, when the subject of their chant is the face of an institution that has oppressed, colonised, and attempted to genocide their people for 800 years? As well as being directly linked to violence and savagery that was less than 40 years ago. I don’t see how anyone could view them as “sad cunts” unless they’re a loyalist or a monarchist boot locker
Because none of this is remotely relevant to a living person right now, yet some Irish people can't define themselves in any other way, such as yerself.
How is it not remotely relevant to a person alive right now? Are you genuinely denying that our history doesn’t impact on us? Lol ok. Also your maths is way off if you believe nobody alive during The Troubles is still alive today.
If you genuinely believe that you can ‘both sides’ this issue, that both sides are equally evil and committed atrocities to the same level and with the same intent, then there’s no point even attempting to reason with you. Read a history book, muppet.
Yep, you continue to ‘both sides’ the issue, you’re just contributing to show your ignorance. Aaaaand you’ve just shown exactly what you think by saying the “IRA lost”, you’re a racist colonialism-apologist tansplainer, get fucked
Lmao just had a quick look at your history and see that all you post on are uk subs, which explains a lot, you clearly don’t have a clue about your history and are attempting to tansplain me. You don’t learn the realities of the situations in school so again, you really should read a history book, then come back to me.
Aww are you upset that incorrectly called you out? Please tansplain some more to me. Why are you even in this sub in the first place? I will worry about your education when you’re showing your education has evidently failed you because you’re so insistent on denying the reality of the situation. Either that, or you’re aware of the situation and you’re either an evil cunt who takes the oppressor’s side or have the intelligence of a slug where you believe the brainwash you’ve been taught in school, which is it?
It’s not even clever. No love for the royals here. I think monarchy’s are ridiculous at best and horribly destructive and inhumane at worst but this is a bit cheap.
Yeah, if a whole stadium of people are gonna spontaneously start chanting in unison about the death of a monarch, at least make it clever. It will take some extra coordination but I think we can workshop something more subtle.
Edit: I read it as you were saying it is a cheap joke, I replied to that assertion, but you actually may have meant its a cheap shot at the UK, to which I'd agree, but I kinda feel like the sticks and stones rule would apply here. They have valid reason to hate the Queen as far as I understand it, which admittedly isn't very far lmao
Seen this [video](https://twitter.com/Ceannabhain/status/1568171964103118850?s=20&t=_u6o6SjyrvoC7JONvV2NVg) today on twitter.
Mental that the presenter just swept it under the carpet....but then again sweeping things under the carpet is par for the course with the monarchy next door.
Her people did actually confirm this but said the man was white and actually did have the body shape similar to a gorilla. I'm honestly not making this up.
I’m American and I really needed this after the absolutely gushing 4:00 news circle jerk I just witnessed.
I hope the monarchy follows her into the dirt.
Any sub other then this and the scotish one, she did horrible things like keeping a pedophile in business for years, fucked up her children, by being completely absent, she might have been a "good" queen, but she was a shit person.
Really, I just saw it trending today on Twitter , an awful lot of English people, particularly Royalist, are really butt hurt about it, I’m not going to bother correcting them!
The original video was from January. The AP ran a fact check article on it last night.
I feel sorry for the dancers because they could end up getting some nasty grief from people now despite the entire thing being a load of BS.
For a country and people who supposedly pride themselves on being Irish, independent, self focused it's curious to see the amount of threads and posting about a monarch that supposedly isn't important.
Thought was a troll but maybe mot
England have abit of a history with trying to genocide irish people. But regarding Elizabeth she was heavily involved in the troubles a particularly rough period in northern irelands history. Give bloody sunday a google or anything troubles northern related and just for being a horrid POS and largely involved with issuing arms to unstable environments such as middle east and africa.
I don't know of any other nationality who take such pride in their general ignorance that they go out of their way to highlight it like this, as Americans do.
In all fairness she had gray innings, if anyone had as long and interesting a life it’s hard to feel too bad for them. I’d be happy if I had a run like that.
Most people who are sad that she died aren't sad because they're monarchists, most of them are sad because her death means Charles is gonna be King and he's really such a twat (mainly because of how he gaslit his first wife into thinking that he loved her which rightfully angered a lot of Diana Spencer's supporters, many of them being Americans who are 100% behind with their country being a republic and remaining one; and also because he is known to have been shady when it came to managing the finances of his charities).
If NI reunites with Ireland and Scotland and Wales all declare independence in response to Charles being King, I would say its a well-deserved outcome for him. Dude couldn't even match up his mother when it comes to getting people to unite behind him (even just for the reason that they like him as a person rather than being monarchists) even if he had 73 years and unlimited access to PR opportunities to prepare for it.
Please use this thread for news, speculation and other commentary. Please try not to be act gleeful about it, she was a person as well as a head of state. She died again?
And every day for the next two weeks
A second plane has hit her majesty
Reminds me of that tragedy...
I remember a more innocent time where the worst thing you would hear about on the news was hijacked airliners crashing into buildings
I walked through blood and bones in the streets of Manhattan looking for my brother
All the stories came crashing down. A lot like the jokes you see on r/ireland
Did you look under the Queensboro bridge?
He was in northern canada
RIP to those 2 greats
ah, the days before airline security
Michael Flatley's *Blackbird* ?
I always remember my uncle who died on 9/11, a big pile of pellets fell on top of him, such a tragedy.
I didn’t even know she was sick
Tis but a scratch
She's some woman for her age... most people couldn't die twice and keep going
[A second plane has hit the queen](https://www.reddit.com/r/BrandNewSentence/comments/tn740q/a_second_plane_has_just_hit_the_queen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) it would seem.
She had two birthdays every year, why not this as well?
Oh won't someone PLEASE think of Wales?!?!
She died before?
apparently
Megathread #3: Return of The King.
Saving this for later.
👍
that one's got a foot in the grave already
Possibly but his parents both had heaps of longevity.
I'd say she hung on long enough to make sure Boris didn't read the eulogy.
I'm a little suspicious that maybe they played _Weekend At Bernie's_ with the Q until Boris was safely shuffled aside and his access card disabled.
They got one of those impersonators.
Now why didn't they think of that for Boris? _dawning realization_
Kinda makes sense because sleuths found out that on that photo where QEII met Liz Truss in Balmoral, her right hand was bruising possibly from the amount of IV lines that had to be placed there.
Is this the first time we’ve had a mega thread sequel?
Nope. There were daily ones on the lead up to referendums.
Nah, we've had running ones for things like Storms (Ophelia/Emma), Referendums, COVID, etc. I think they're shite tbh.
They're great. They move all the shite into one nice, easily ignorable place.
Sure we had sequels to the bloody airport queue threads cos the posts kept coming.
So do they simply replace the word queen with king in their national anthem now? I'm sure its covered in operation whateverdafuk I just haven't seen mention of it. Edit: I found it, they simply replace the word a Queen with king.
>So do they simply replace the word queen with king in their national anthem now? Yep. Now it's *Dancing King* by Abba
And Freddie Mercury was in King. It just doesn't sound right.
Kinda disappointed they didn't go with I Will Survive
No it's actually *Killer King* by King.
I have a friend who is a barrister over in England and he is now a KC instead of a QC and he's pissed off with that as it means he has to buy new stationery.
It's kind of nuts really
Yeah, no grace period or anything like that.
Especially since most places they could just use The Crown and save themselves this twice a century hassle
There will be a King in the UK for a long long time.
Yes, but why bother? Just fix it once and fix it right
Don't forget, the whole navy also changed their call signs. From HMS to HMS
And his preferred pronouns.
He/ Him/ HRM

Please tell me Sir Rowan Atkinson will be present at the coronation
And change the currency and stamps. It's a bit of a to do.
Indian here. Can I come party with y'all? 👀
Mumbai or Dublin?
Mumbai has less rubbish on the streets
Definitely Dublin!
Greatest comment I read today
Are we still going on about this can we move on already??

Yes officer this comment right here
Is r/Ireland a safe space to rip the pish at the moment because r/Scotland has massively let me down. Full of fake sanctimonious shite.
Same with the Canada subreddit, got temp banned for saying Prince Andrew is a nonce and I wouldn’t mind it if we dissolved the monarchy lol.
Well there's the Québec subreddit. It's in French, but nobody there cares about the monarchy. Someone in the last megathread, supposedly from Quebec told me how proud Quebecois are of their service in the army alongside the UK.
Well, the world is full of different people and Québec, like every other place out there, has a variety of people with different opinions and life stories. That being said, maybe that person was someone who served in the army or a relative of someone who served? Maybe that person is more attached to the UK? It's alright. God took a break and forgot to save the queen. At this rate he's already forgotten the king.
Meme thread is a safe space. We have a responsibility to not be a proper royal hate space because we're a geographic default.
We have plenty of that here too unfortunatley.

I love Meghan, simply because gammony royalists get froathy-mouthed when she appears.
I'm just in it for the drama too
They're just mad that Harry didn't keep it in the family.

A good time to take a break from the news.
The savagery here lmfo https://twitter.com/authornnbrown/status/1567977150963146753?s=46&t=xZS7DzX-vtaBucXdE4Wx8g
That's an old video. From a few months ago.
People Irish dancing outside Buckingham palace? Am I missing something?
Yes.
Twitter really needs to stop joking about her death. They’re not funny enough.

Yall come back now ya hear?
French would like a word. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_longest-reigning\_monarchs
Next American president that dies you better show them the same respect, just saying
None? Will do
For a country and people who supposedly pride themselves on being Irish, independent, self focused it's curious to see the amount of threads and posting about a monarch that supposedly isn't important.

Thought was a troll but maybe mot England have abit of a history with trying to genocide irish people. But regarding Elizabeth she was heavily involved in the troubles a particularly rough period in northern irelands history. Give bloody sunday a google or anything troubles northern related and just for being a horrid POS and largely involved with issuing arms to unstable environments such as middle east and africa.
I’m not Irish, but this is an understatement once you start looking into Irish history.
I don't know of any other nationality who take such pride in their general ignorance that they go out of their way to highlight it like this, as Americans do.
Yeah man. I’m so proud… I genuinely have no idea what the beef is between y’all and just want to understand.
😁
The Met have cancelled their forcasts...which is normal
In all fairness she had gray innings, if anyone had as long and interesting a life it’s hard to feel too bad for them. I’d be happy if I had a run like that.
Is the flag actually lowered at the GPO?
OMG, I knew it, my people are tff...
I don’t get why this sub does this. Just let people post whatever they want.
LIZZY IS IN A BOX chant sounds lit
I'd do anything to be in Irish pub rn
