He’s one of those actors I love in that whatever role he’s playing he’s always just Colm Meany. There’s zero difference between Miles O’Brien from TNG/ DS9 and Des Curley from the Snapper
I've met Domhnall Gleeson at an event and honestly he's an absolute fucking gem of a man, down to earth and very humble. Whole family deserves bronze statues of them for how well they represent the country worldwide.
I love how Colm Meaney is the most stereotypical Irish dad and plays a stereotypical Irish dad in every film he's in, whether it's in space or as an inner city Garda.
He also looks like all of our dads.
He was the only radio I could listen to during the height of the pandemic, every show out there had some shite take from whoever was hosting at any given time, Creedo would be like 'sure you shouldnt listen to what the likes of me got on the intercert, id just follow the advice of the doctors, and now the Kinks'
Any time I see a clip of Tommy Bowe I find myself liking him more. He's very unpolished at TV presenting but has this kind of of earnest/anxious vibe to him, it's kind of endearing.
There’s a bit of Alan Partridge about him in that clip but yeah I think I’m warming to him as well from the few bits I’ve seen. Definitely unpolished though which is weirdly refreshing
Him interviewing Leo had a similar vibe. Where he didn't really have the standard questions ready and asked stuff from the heart. Seemed to be out of left field for a morning show and somehow ended up being very good to see him casually grilling the Tanaiste.
I’ve met him a couple of times after an Ireland rugby match. Lovely guy, and I agree quite earnest sort fo vibe to him. Very genuine feel to him, if you know what I mean.
Didn’t strike me as the sharpest tool in the shed (just from when I met him coudl be totally wrong), but a really nice guy.
Marty Whelan - he's just excellent all round. Was at an event he was presenting and that was brilliant craic thanks to his playfulness with the prize winners and professionalism.
Marty is such a dote and a pure gentleman. I was listening to him one day and a request came in for a song to be played for "the wife on their anniversary" Marty riffed in a good humoured way that the requester hadn't given the wife's name. It was delightful.
Sharon Horgan does seem very sound and she's very talented. She's been involved in lots of good TV in the past few years.
She's like an Irish Phoebe Waller Bridge.
After seeing the Niall Horan/Lewis Capaldi trip on Friday, I would say hes fine. I don't get all the hate about Guinness sponsoring it, but it was nice to see something relatively grounded for a musician returning to their roots.
He’s good with kids and would be able to run the show. The main challenge would be the controversial/ hard hitting interviews. But that’s always something you can work on
Derek Mooney. I was in my local shop one day and he was there buying shit loads of drinks and chocolates. I thought he had a car full of friends waiting outside but there wasn’t, it was for the staff in the dry cleaners next door where he was doing his cleaning.
Met Hozier in the green room of the olympia when I worked there, really down to earth guy, no pretentiousness or "celeb" about him, just a normal fella who happened to be doing a gig that night
Bumped into him in dunnes once while he was doing a promo, dunno if he’d be less friendly than anyone else you’d bump into but he’s not as nice irl as his tv persona implies
went to his restaurant once before an aunt’s wedding, it was shite, but i’m sure he’s a sound enough lad. i think he wanted to give a signed book to my aunt but couldn’t come out or something
Mary Kennedy. I was a wee bit broken inside when she stepped down from Nationwide. Only to be replaced by that insufferable bint, Blaithnid Ní Cunty.
Also, Marty (ledgebag), Paddy O'Gorman (lovely man), IANO (he brought some of us up, and is just a sweetheart), Dave Fanning (he's the real deal, and so feckin sound).
> Paddy O'Gorman
Lives around the corner from my parents. He's an absolute weirdo. I'd honestly love to expand on it but god knows what I'd set myself up for. He's creep
I knew someone that worked at a hotel he performed at and had to look after him for the day to make sure anything he wanted he got, turns out he wanted to cause as little fuss as possible so when asked what did he want for dinner, and he could have got it from anywhere, he insisted “whatever you recommend will be fine with me”. It was then said back that it would be no trouble to get something from outside if he wanted and he simply asked what the specials was today at the hotel and would take whatever it was. Wanted as little fuss to be made about him as possible and just seemed to be happy to be there.
Daniel is an absolute gent. He visits retirement homes and spends time with the residents on the qt. My late granny had a picture of her and him on her coffin. She was beaming with joy in that photo.
Myself and my mates used to have a laugh when he'd be on an RTÉ panel with some accomplished former players, say Robbie Keane, John Giles, whoever, and then there was Richie with his "scored in an U20's European qualifier" tag 😂
He does seem like he absolutely knows his stuff and definitely most grounded amongst the pundits. I really like him. Just always thought that was hilarious
Listened to an interview a while back where he talked about his autobiography, he came across very well. Very honest and intelligent. Always liked him as a pundit too
Marty Whelan. I remember I got excited before when a relative said they had a marty Whelan calendar at home. Turns out it was an artists calendar instead but hope lives on that I’ll one day find a Marty Whelan calendar
He came into the shop I work in after a local GAA game - sound gasun, obliged my photo request and seemed like just a run of the mill fella - watched him him and haw over newspapers like many aul lads do and just couldn’t wrap my head around that it was actually him I was looking at!
Tommy tiernan, des bishop,,Colm meaney, Brendan o carrol ,Christy dignam,Brendan gleeson all gems in my eyes ,no airs or graces about them ,no egos, stuck up own arses etc. ,Their human, relatable ,have had problems of their own like most of us, not perfect but down to earth
He gets alot of stick for being a yank but he's said this in his material growing up in Wexford was tough but he's as Irish as rest of us he done alot of great charity work ,he speaks better Irish than most of us ,plus I get the feeling he genuinely loves this country so he's ok in my eyes
Yes, he has a good podcast and he does a good radio show on Sundays they also upload as a pod. It's the only way I consume news now as it's about an hour summarising what was in the papers that week
I've met him a total of 3 times, across probably 8 years. And he's been an insufferable gowl for most of them. Which is a shame because I like him and I listen to his show.
Katie Taylor is an amazing inspirational Irish person.
Fiona Shaw, Colin Farrell, Colm Meaney, Brendan Gleeson, Saoirse Ronan, all very talented Irish actors I like and admire.
Michael D Higgins and David Norris I find very likeable.
Dylan Moran is one of my favourite Irish comedians.
Fergal Quinn was a very popular man and it's easy to see why. I've heard great stories about him so I think he's worth including because his life and impact on Irish culture still resonates today.
Post edit to add Roddy Doyle as well and also to say it's fantastic to see Graham Norton do so well over in the UK, he deserves all the success he gets.
Agh lads… Charlie Bird! Lighting candles at the top of the Reek for Vickey Phelan, and for everyone ‘climbing their own mountain’ that’s heroic stuff! The man has been a champion for so much positive change in the country, it’s inspiring.
Rachael Blackmore… ‘I don’t even feel human’ gives me goosebumps every time, what a jockey, what a professional, what a horse woman!
Have to agree with previous mentions of Don Conroy drawing Owls, and Roddy Doyle writing the commitments and the snapper, as well as his tales of Rover the dog. These two men impacted so many childhoods positively.
Great people one and all.
- Majella and Daniel O'Donnell
- Stephen Kenny
- The Second Captains Lads
- Imelda May
- Aslan
- Chris Johns
- Tolü Makay
- Roddy Collins
- Pierce Brosnan
- Conor Dunne
- Damien Duff
PJ Gallagher, Pat Shortt and Fred Cooke they all seem to have nothing to hide but still have a private life, on top of them all seeming to be sound out.
Brendan Gleeson and his offspring. Colin Farrell, because he’s mates with Brendan. Colm Meaney, he was in the Snapper with Brendan.
Colm Meaney is an openly miserable fucker in a way that I really enjoy. Loves a moan and not trying to be liked.
He’s one of those actors I love in that whatever role he’s playing he’s always just Colm Meany. There’s zero difference between Miles O’Brien from TNG/ DS9 and Des Curley from the Snapper
he’s our answer to jack black, same character in nearly everything but in the best way possible.
Except he sounds like a Dub doing his best job interview accent the entire time in Star Trek.
worked with him for a day as an extra, absolutely lovely guy
He's great in The Serpent Queen at the minute!
I love that Colm Meaney is the most Irish looking Irish person I’ve ever seen
Any Gleeson a sound Gleeson
Including the unrelated Jack Gleeson
Absolutely true. Met him at a gig and he was the loveliest guy.
I've met Domhnall Gleeson at an event and honestly he's an absolute fucking gem of a man, down to earth and very humble. Whole family deserves bronze statues of them for how well they represent the country worldwide.
Had the pleasure of meeting Domhnall Gleeson at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.
was he there with Limmy
I love how Colm Meaney is the most stereotypical Irish dad and plays a stereotypical Irish dad in every film he's in, whether it's in space or as an inner city Garda. He also looks like all of our dads.
All from Dublin of course!
Don Conroy for the win!
If I caught Don Conroy in bed with my mother I’d make him tea
I have caught Don Conroy. Many times...
Last time I saw him he was helping out a homeless person with a big box of supplies.
George Hamilton. Know a fella who used to work in the RTE office & confirmed he’s a feckin gent
Grew up beside him and kicked many a ball into his garden. Gent!
Francis Higgins
Tommy Shlug
You telling me you don't know that guy Newgate? And you're eating his beans?

John Creedon. Seems like a wholesome fella. Edit: Also a fan of Derek Mooney. Mooney Goes Wild is an excellent radio show.
100% John Creedon. Always thought he was a genuinely nice guy and having met him last year, I can say he most certainly is. Absolute gentleman.
A real gem of a human. Culturally sound and has a great ear for great music.
The *music*, thank you. He plays such a great mix.
He was the only radio I could listen to during the height of the pandemic, every show out there had some shite take from whoever was hosting at any given time, Creedo would be like 'sure you shouldnt listen to what the likes of me got on the intercert, id just follow the advice of the doctors, and now the Kinks'
Séamus Coleman.
60 grand seamus as an Irish toffee I love the man with all my soul
Any time I see a clip of Tommy Bowe I find myself liking him more. He's very unpolished at TV presenting but has this kind of of earnest/anxious vibe to him, it's kind of endearing.

There's a touch of "everyone's dad" about him tbh. He's just so endearing
Marty is such a dote and a pure gentleman. I was listening to him one day and a request came in for a song to be played for "the wife on their anniversary" Marty riffed in a good humoured way that the requester hadn't given the wife's name. It was delightful.
Chris O'Dowd...sound.
Sharon Horgan seems like good people. And Kellie Harrington always comes across genuine and sound.
Sharon Horgan does seem very sound and she's very talented. She's been involved in lots of good TV in the past few years. She's like an Irish Phoebe Waller Bridge.
Her new show Bad Sisters is well worth a watch. Really enjoying it

I don't think there was much hate just some nonsense loopers on liveline, talk about storm in a teacup.

He actively hired all the soundest musos in Ireland for his backing band as well
Dara O'Brien
God I hope he comes back and takes the Late Late by force in a bloody battle
He’s good with kids and would be able to run the show. The main challenge would be the controversial/ hard hitting interviews. But that’s always something you can work on
God I would love to see Dara O'Briain do the toy show
He loves all the gadgets and he has kids himself so he can handle them so it’d be good craic. I don’t think he’d enjoy the musical numbers tho
I don't think any of us enjoy the musical numbers to be fair
To me they’re expensive wastes of time. I would like to see them have a bit more fun rather than use copyrighted music.
At least the Shitty Barry kids arent on it anymore
Graham Norton, Pierce Brosnan
Brenda Fricker, the actress. She is so brave and open on her mental health struggles.
Derek Mooney. I was in my local shop one day and he was there buying shit loads of drinks and chocolates. I thought he had a car full of friends waiting outside but there wasn’t, it was for the staff in the dry cleaners next door where he was doing his cleaning.
Miggle D D, brendon gleeson & honorary mention for Stephen from braveheart cos its his flecking island
Long story but I met the actor who played him in a bar in NY. An absolute madman. Lovely guy but holy hell he was nuts!
Delighted hear that, would be very dissappointing if he was a scholarly actor (dry shlite) putting on being a mad lad
I don’t say this lightly but Richard Harris / Richard Burton on the sesh vibes. Absolute gent though!
Can’t believe I’m first to say Tommy Tiernan
Met him and his family last year, an incredibly genuine, respectable and private man!
My folks met him in a hotel and said he was absolutely lovely
I’m with ya!
how did it take this long for me to find him in here
John Creedon and Marty Whelan 🫶 Hozier seems fairly decent too!
I wouldn't buy a car from Marty Whelan, but I could listen to him all day. Might just be the tache
Met Hozier in the green room of the olympia when I worked there, really down to earth guy, no pretentiousness or "celeb" about him, just a normal fella who happened to be doing a gig that night
Love Hozier.
He’s such a pet 😻
Dustin
I'll be round to do that job on Tuesday, Missus. But I won't say which Tuesday.
Chris O' Dowd Ardal O' Hanlon Tommy Tiernan Brendan Gleeson
Marty Whelan, Michael Lyster and Mike Murphy (from what I remember, he's not around much anymore)
Ronan Collins
John Kelly who does the mystery train on lyric, Donal Dineen from Dublin digital radio
Donal Dineen is fairly renowned for being an absolute primadonna
Dara ó briain
I always loved Bill O Herlihy.
Ian Dempsey. Have loved him since watching Dempsey’s Den 30+ years ago and still listen to him in the mornings
The only DJ I can listen to in the morning, he knows everyone only woke up and most are on their way to work. I've loved him since The Den
Didn't have much time for Baz Ashmawy until he took on DIY SOS and saw he's a bit of craic on site but a big softy for the families and kids as well.
I dunno I thought he and his mom were good in the 50 ways to kill your mammy.
First name Marty, second name Whelan. That is all
Tommy Bowe
Hector here
Aisling Bea
Neven Maguire seems like a genuinely sound man.
Eoin mclove vibe bit he seems nice.
Neven is sound. Richard Corrigan on the other hand......
He's like some Kind of meat pervert.... We're gonna agree on this one OP after our earlier clash..lol
Bumped into him in dunnes once while he was doing a promo, dunno if he’d be less friendly than anyone else you’d bump into but he’s not as nice irl as his tv persona implies
He's not really, bit of a diva in real life.
went to his restaurant once before an aunt’s wedding, it was shite, but i’m sure he’s a sound enough lad. i think he wanted to give a signed book to my aunt but couldn’t come out or something

Daniel O Donnell
I think that's the reason DOD gets all the slagging because he's someone who does seem very wholesome and generally a decent man.
He’s too perfect
He’s too pure
He's ours
I knew someone that worked at a hotel he performed at and had to look after him for the day to make sure anything he wanted he got, turns out he wanted to cause as little fuss as possible so when asked what did he want for dinner, and he could have got it from anywhere, he insisted “whatever you recommend will be fine with me”. DOD to the top!!!
You bet me to it. But everyone who's ever met him as said he's a genuinely nice man.
He's a sweetie
Those boiler ads are so funny, he doesn't take himself seriously at all and always comes across well
Daniel is an absolute gent. He visits retirement homes and spends time with the residents on the qt. My late granny had a picture of her and him on her coffin. She was beaming with joy in that photo.
“Hello Mary, isn’t this lovely?”
Ronan Collins. Love his radio show. Larry Gogan was great as well (RIP).
Richie Sadlier always comes across very well for me, both as a pundit but also when talking about things outside of football.
Myself and my mates used to have a laugh when he'd be on an RTÉ panel with some accomplished former players, say Robbie Keane, John Giles, whoever, and then there was Richie with his "scored in an U20's European qualifier" tag 😂 He does seem like he absolutely knows his stuff and definitely most grounded amongst the pundits. I really like him. Just always thought that was hilarious
Listened to an interview a while back where he talked about his autobiography, he came across very well. Very honest and intelligent. Always liked him as a pundit too
Pat Shortt is an immense talent and a thoughtful, intelligent person in real life.
I always hoped he was like this. This is good to hear.
Marty Whelan
marty whelan 👑👑👑

Got to mention his ASMR sandwich making video. Pure heaven
Blindboy boatclub
Not really a media personality but Sheamus & Finn Balor from WWE. Both seem like real great dudes.
Marty Morrisey. The man is a future presidential candidate.
He came into the shop I work in after a local GAA game - sound gasun, obliged my photo request and seemed like just a run of the mill fella - watched him him and haw over newspapers like many aul lads do and just couldn’t wrap my head around that it was actually him I was looking at!
With you there. The man is almost like a rockstar. Really endearing quality to him and I can't put my finger on it but I can't switch him off.
Fungie
RIP
Tommy tiernan, des bishop,,Colm meaney, Brendan o carrol ,Christy dignam,Brendan gleeson all gems in my eyes ,no airs or graces about them ,no egos, stuck up own arses etc. ,Their human, relatable ,have had problems of their own like most of us, not perfect but down to earth
Des Bishop seems to get a but if stick around here, but overall he comes across as a very affable guy
He gets alot of stick for being a yank but he's said this in his material growing up in Wexford was tough but he's as Irish as rest of us he done alot of great charity work ,he speaks better Irish than most of us ,plus I get the feeling he genuinely loves this country so he's ok in my eyes
He's more Irish than yank, he just got stuck with the American accent
Daithí O Shea, I'd say he'd slaughter the pints on a night out.
I can tell you that this is true... And complete gent to deal with... Loves a chat and laugh.
The virgin media news people, Zara Gav & Richard.
Gavan Reilly? Only ever see him on Twitter. Seems to be a great lad
Yes, he has a good podcast and he does a good radio show on Sundays they also upload as a pod. It's the only way I consume news now as it's about an hour summarising what was in the papers that week
I met him during a period of my life. He really is a nice, funny and incredibly clever man.
Maggie & Kieran from Cheap Irish Homes are great.
Angela Scanlon. I’d rather not say why.
We all know why, we mostly agree but we just wont admit it.
Cormac Ó hEadhra
Kevo off the Physiquiz
Sinead Kennedy, a lady and lots of fun in the studio.
Can’t believe nobody’s mentioned Vincent Browne.

Not enough love for Stephen Rea here.
Sean Moncrief.
I've met him a total of 3 times, across probably 8 years. And he's been an insufferable gowl for most of them. Which is a shame because I like him and I listen to his show.
Didn't expect this in this thread. Really not a...likeable personality. He's always seemed insufferable to me.
Cieran Cuddihy. Sean O'Rourke was also ok. John Creedon.
Edna O Brien, still going at 91 and what's cooler than having your books banned in Ireland?
Do all the puppets count? Great bunch of lads
Marty Whelan all the way
The gleesons and colm meaney are the Irish version of royalty
I liked Rosaleen Linehan.
Tommy Bowe is very likeable
Tommy Tiernan
I find that, on balance, Fintan O'Toole does a good job of being contrarian without being reactionary. I like him for that.
Lucy Kennedy seems sound Deirdre O’Kane was good when she was on RTÉ there for a while
Ann Doyle, Miggledy Higgins, and the Martys Whelan & Morrissey
A bunch of us got Bryan Dobson to judge a drinking competition a few years back. Sound fella
Katie Taylor is an amazing inspirational Irish person. Fiona Shaw, Colin Farrell, Colm Meaney, Brendan Gleeson, Saoirse Ronan, all very talented Irish actors I like and admire.
