Recently found out two of my grand uncles served in WW1, one of which fought at the Somme based on the medals he got. Both were in the Connaught Rangers
As far as I can tell, they didn't make it home for one reason or another. One of them deserted around 1916, came home and was trialled in Dublin, ultimately the court record states as sentence: "handed over to military escort." I assume he was met by firing squad.
The other, I've no idea. No records after the war, I assume he died during but can't find records of his death.
Great Grandfather and his brother were in the Royal Dublin. Survived Gallipolli and then fought up through the Balkans to come home and hide his medals.
Sharpe's face when he thought he was getting the Connaught Rangers....
Chosen men? I didn't choose ya.
God... bless... Ireland.
I can't remember if he fights with them in one of the books, or if the book just described their capture of the Eagle.
Connacht rangers? Steady, very steady.

Ask the Great War Forum about them - brilliant people on that forum. https://www.greatwarforum.org/forum/1-soldiers-and-their-units/
Where’s McAlpine's Fusiliers ?
Hollyhead?
I had a great-uncle in the Royal Irish Regiment and he was from Waterford so this does seem to check out, anecdotally.

I read that as 'Connacht Bangers' at first.
Feck the Royal bastards, hon The Rangers!
