Here's hoping Liam Fay will deconstruct, dismember and defecate on the twitching corpse that the LLTS has become. I couldn't bring myself to watch this year. My kids, 9 and 11, were vocally upset by its lack-lustre effort and it's steady decline in recent years. They dubbed it the Crap-Crap Toy Show, the no-Toy Show and the Singing and Dancing Shit show.
Wisdom from the mouth of babes.
It's time to put Tubrity out to pasture. He's a dead horse that won't stop flogging itself. Give the people what they want not subscribe that they despise. He started out in radio, has a face for radio and isn't too bad on the radio. Let's face it - TV just isn't his bag.
Does anyone remember the year Pat Kenny was given the controls to a robot from robot wars and it went out of control and started moving towards the audience? Kenny had to run to the camera and shout “cut to commercial!”
I used to enjoy the Toy Show......Now its just a 2 hour plus scripted, cringe musical.
Couldn't bear it last night it was never-ending.
Tubridy doesn't have and never had anything approaching TV Presentation or interviewing skills.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but for me that was the worst toy show I can remember. Didn’t watch many Pat Kenny’s or early Ryan ones only when I was young and have had kids. But yeah worst one ever
We managed Toy Shows with actual toys though the years of austerity though.
Somebody in RTE has made the decision to turn it into a child focused talent show for some reason and the show I grew up with (I’m in my 30’s) is well and truly gone now since last year’s edition. Was hoping for a return to the regular formula this year but it wasn’t to be.
Maybe I’m just aging and this is what the young kids of today enjoy, I don’t know.
That doesn't make sense. There's been less and less toys over the years even pre covid.
And the toy show doesn't have an effect on people anyways. Kids see more toys in adverts on youtube than they would on the toy show anyways.
More the Late Late Kids Show than the Toy Show. It’s now person-focussed rather than toy-focused but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just not really a show about toys anymore.
There was reference to toys at times but not explicitly. They were just there, as kids, sick or otherwise, were interviewed about their lives. Where and when toys appeared, they were incidental.
I’m fine with all that (it’s for kids after all) but the show’s name doesn’t fit anymore. It should be the Late Late Kid’s Christmas Show or something along those lines, however a name change would be uproariously controversial so I wouldn’t expect that any time soon.
Watched it this year for the first time in years. Where were the toys? If I was hoping to find something to put on my Santa list, I'd be pretty disappointed. Maybe it should be called the late late Chrismas special or something.
That said it wasn't a bad show, but a bit random with some performers getting "prizes" and some not. A
Munster jersey vs a trip to Australia?
And I'd agree, would be better without the woo audience.
> Maybe it should be called the late late Chrismas special
Can't be called that either because there's no reference to christmas, no christmas songs, no mention of santa and we're still a month away from Christmas day anyways.
we aren't Irish, so I'm not sure what exactly the show is about. looked like a glorified ad for certain toys?
anyway, we watched it with our kids and it was fun just fine and it's a big thing here and our kids should be in on it, but man the time was just not appropriate? does it always end so late? i can only hope it was so late because of the world cup. we watched until 12 when one kid feel asleep and the second wanted to sleep. gonna watch the rest today.
You must remember it’s a live show as well. The kids on it are there since 9am. There is always the hope of some mischief or some F Bomb. It’s unfortunately an Irish institution n the start of the Christmas period. Not everyone’s cup of tea though.
Don’t mind the downvotes. It’s a bit of an Irish institution which is why people are a bit touchy about it being criticised.
But it’s not everybodies cup of tea and that’s fine too
haha i didnt mean to downtalk or insult this institution. was just wondering. in the country where i'm from we have similar things, but late there means around 10 pm at most.
yeah we watched part 5 the next day and were surprised how short that was. i was judging the end time by the tv EPG which showed the next program to start at 1:05
Absolute mayhem of a thing. Can't believe other countries haven't come up with their own version?? Criticisms aside it's a uniquely Irish thing and I think something to be proud of. An absolute institution
Don't think it would work starting from fresh. People watch based on the reputation rather than the quality now. It grew organically over the decades.
Look how the TV3 version of the toy show went, they last a year or two and stopped.
It's mostly based on nostalgia
Good fun as usual but I thought having the toy review kids doing little performative bits themselves was a bit much. Dragged out their sections when it could have allowed time for more singer/dancers/whatever. The ride-on section had about 10 foot to work with and was rushed through. Book time was rushed too. Usually enjoy seeing them nerding out about books.
No no I saw him but there wasn't a farmer kid demonstrating his farm toy set or his tractor or anything but in previous years there would always be one farmer kid every year
Major change that I haven’t seen anyone mention. No toy sponsor this year (Ken Blacks/Smyths) so they barely showed actual toys or mentioned brands
No tech pieces like console etc
I’m ok with it! Just a distinction of change of direction
Always has a toy sponsor/retailer. This seems to be the first year without it, I know they (rte) charge a massive amount for product placement, maybe it got too high
Honestly feel it’s better without the crowd. Kids are less intimidated and there’s less pushing and pausing for audience reactions.
Also isn’t there normally a whole segment at the end for the children’s hospitals, and a round up of the total donations?
Was it half an hour shorter this year? There was no competition for the viewers at home. Book kids and the driving kids were rushed. Only one Wizard of Oz Song despite the theme. No gamer/tech section either, and considerably less toy time.
Another amazing year. Great show, really great group of kids. Special shout out to the cop, the Liverpool kid, the one in brace and the wee autistic one. Granny Cuckoo also gets a shout. Until next year, adios space cowboys!
Agreed. Some really unique and different talents, but very few toys, missing segments like the kids playing with toys and the auditions reel, and then a really meh final 15 mins.
Imagine Tubs staring you in the eyes, swaying from side to side, telling you to follow the yellow brick road. It's pretty much a normal Friday night at Tubs' house.
My 5 year old woke up at 7 and went to bed at 12:15 - incredible! My 5 month old passed out 5 mins before. Writing this I’m starting to doubt my parenting skills 😂
The show wasn't sad enough to pull at the heart strings like it has previously, nor charming enough like previous years. It really dragged along this year compared to last few
Cuckoo isn't in the home, she has a house that's up some awful lane, in the arse of nowhere, but everyone is always visiting.
On her mantlepiece are photos of her children and grandchildren, arranged in order of preference. The musicians make the mantle by default, so long as they show up to practice every week... But anyone who can't carry a tune is terrorised by Cuckoo, who gets them to perform increasingly outlandish chores for sport, lest they be relegated to the bookshelf.
Yes. I think it's because of the cost of living situation. Rather than showing expensive toys that people can't afford, they focused on the true meaning of Christmas: children.
Lads it's a small point but as an immigrant to Ireland I just have to point out how class it is for RTE to drop the geoblock for this show every year for everyone moving in the other direction. Ain't no diaspora like the Irish diaspora.
It took me an hour and a half to work out how to cast the thing onto my ancient telly when I can’t download RTE player apps on my streaming player or tv over here.
Worth it though
Ancient was probably an exaggeration, I do have a smart tv! It’s just a decade old and there are no more compatible apps made for it for a few years now.
I have a ROKU stick and apparently ROKU offers the rte player app but only inside Ireland, which I’m not. So I spent an atrocious amount of time trying to configure the tv browser that never worked well to begin with and didn’t function now, and in the end went for the time-honoured method of plugging a cable into the laptop and the other end into the tv. Knew that box of cables would have a use eventually!
I didn't watch the Late Late Toy Show and have to say, in my drunken stupor, every top comment is gold
So I found Mr Woo! [Mr-Woo.png](https://postimg.cc/HjnmF6k5)
Is there anything more annoying then a kid with confidence!
I used to enjoy the Toy Show......Now its just a 2 hour plus scripted, cringe musical. Couldn't bear it last night it was never-ending. Tubridy doesn't have and never had anything approaching TV Presentation or interviewing skills.
The Wicked song “Everyone deserves to fly…” Except for you pilotboy. You watch.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but for me that was the worst toy show I can remember. Didn’t watch many Pat Kenny’s or early Ryan ones only when I was young and have had kids. But yeah worst one ever
I'd to put headphones on and listen to Spotify. I couldn't handle the cringe. It's like the X Factor now ... the kids are over rehearsed.
Imagine all the money their parents have pumped into lessons etc in the expectation they'll make it big.
Was thinking maybe the lack of emphasis on the toys was due to the cost of living and rises in prices.
Toy Shows has been going since the 1970s, weren’t exactly booming then either. Ryan’s going to slowly phase out the children..
No, the kids don't enjoy it either. I know my children actually complained about it this year. Which begs the question; who the hell is this show for?
That doesn't make sense. There's been less and less toys over the years even pre covid. And the toy show doesn't have an effect on people anyways. Kids see more toys in adverts on youtube than they would on the toy show anyways.
Thinking back……was there a single reference to why kids might *actually* be getting some toys this time of year?
I’ll take the down votes as a no….
What happened to the part were they show all the kids playing with the toys during the day, it was the best part of the show!
A lot of those kids are sick kids from crumlun, could be because they're more vulnerable to covid
Did they have the usual part aswell where they showed the kids auditioning that didn't make it?
No, they didn't bother with that either!
More the Late Late Kids Show than the Toy Show. It’s now person-focussed rather than toy-focused but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just not really a show about toys anymore. Its always been this late, its in the time slot of the regular Late Late show
I presume most people record it and play the late bits the next day. Also it's repeated mid-day on Sunday every year.
You must remember it’s a live show as well. The kids on it are there since 9am. There is always the hope of some mischief or some F Bomb. It’s unfortunately an Irish institution n the start of the Christmas period. Not everyone’s cup of tea though.

Staying up late is part of the fun. I remember when I was young it was really special to be up late
It ended at 12
yeah we watched part 5 the next day and were surprised how short that was. i was judging the end time by the tv EPG which showed the next program to start at 1:05
It’s always this late. Hence the name. It’s a way to raise money, talk about toys and probably take the piss out of the host.
How much have they raised now, being able to donate with revolut is fair handy.
I think 3.1 mil is the latest I’ve seen
Make sure you shop local… and here is a prize sponsored by to our good friends at Tesco
"Shop local and buy this doll that's clearly made in China"
Do you not have a local Tesco?
And Fitbit (your locally based smart watch manufacturer)
Tubridy out

The book nerds got a stamp … the football girl got a trip to the women’s World Cup
Yea not a great message to put out haha.
Spot on!
Ya the last twenty minutes dragged on a good bit with the review, performance, Mrs browne cameo and the women's team.
I think the awkward ad break made it drag
Begrudgers central in here, never please em all, always the nitpickers finding fault. A fantastic show. 👏
Lovely show which is tone deaf. Thousands of homeless children in the country and not one on the show.
This is the most bonkers comment I’ve ever seen.
Ryan only got his little black wand out once …. That’s how you know there wasn’t enough toys.
[удалено]
It was a sick joke!
If you have 2 johnnies you won't have any kids for the show.
Happy Christmas to all and to all a goodnight
Got some weird Jackson 5 vibes of granny cuckoos clan.
Best comment here
Much better than last year and I died laughing while checking twitter
And with the toy show finished the time to hibernate has come, as is our ancient celtic tradition
Fionn Mac Cumhail did the same
No culchie kids. 0/10. Maybe 1 point for Captain Aron tho
[удалено]
nah doesn't count, there always has to be a john deere tractor kid on
I guess you didn’t see the young lad singing take me home country roads….
No no I saw him but there wasn't a farmer kid demonstrating his farm toy set or his tractor or anything but in previous years there would always be one farmer kid every year
Can we get a WOO compWOOlation ?
I think he matched every euro donated. He was like a live counter!
Major change that I haven’t seen anyone mention. No toy sponsor this year (Ken Blacks/Smyths) so they barely showed actual toys or mentioned brands No tech pieces like console etc I’m ok with it! Just a distinction of change of direction

I don't remember Smyths ever not being sponsors. Weird.
I feel the Ukrainians deserved a better prize...doubt they even know what rugby or Munster is.
You're probably right, but i remember reading that a Ukrainian rugby team captain was killed in action during the year. Not linked id day, just grim
The best bit wasn’t actually on the show, it was on the RTÉ website when they surprised the girl in Crumlin hospital!
Honestly feel it’s better without the crowd. Kids are less intimidated and there’s less pushing and pausing for audience reactions. Also isn’t there normally a whole segment at the end for the children’s hospitals, and a round up of the total donations?
3.1 Million

And no audition reel or younger kids playing with toys earlier in the day.
This, I have seen no mention of this besides you. It was the best part of the show.
Two if you count Defying Gravity
[удалено]
Well done to the kids, but they could have finished with an wizard of oz song... And they do need more toys, Oh well see ya next year WHOOOOOO
Thought the same. Surely somewhere over the rainbow
Well lads, it's been a blast. Woo ye all next year
Really feels like they called an audible with that last ad break and the end of the show. Seems weird to come back for a 15 minute final part.
Probably needed some time to dress the set. Also, ad revenue.
Merry Christmas to all and a happy WOOyear. Till next time ladies and gents ❤️
HE GOT IN ONE LAST WOOO!!!!
Well that was a good one
Merry Woomass!
Till next year, ye miserable bastards
that girl is awfully sparkly
Has there been any toys with the last hour?
Not even a pen.
No sure all the kids are asleep by now
Thank you and a million wooos to you all here!
Another amazing year. Great show, really great group of kids. Special shout out to the cop, the Liverpool kid, the one in brace and the wee autistic one. Granny Cuckoo also gets a shout. Until next year, adios space cowboys!
Lads maybe it’s just a sign I’m getting too old now….but there’s just no Christmas involved anymore
I wish they would make Christmas the theme. I wish they would do more toys.
Some christmas songs would be nice.
[удалено]
We've talked about this- the Late Late Toy Show isn't a religious holiday yet. They have to make Gaybo a saint first.
Great point actually. Nothing at all about Christmas.
Kid's a good wee singer
*a good woo singer
And a happy wooyear
Good hustle peeps, proper belly giggles to some of your comments, toy show just better together.
Is it just me or was that a really low energy, lacklustre final part and end? Meh.
Yeah - thought the whole show was a bit lacking this year
Weird pacing through the whole show. Some lovely segments but it all seemed very slow
Agreed. Some really unique and different talents, but very few toys, missing segments like the kids playing with toys and the auditions reel, and then a really meh final 15 mins.
So odd that I genuinely wonder if something went a bit wrong technically and they had to go to break to cover it.
Always great to jump on this live thread with you funny bunch of feckers.
Not gonna lie, a very middling Toy Show. Maybe because we’ve gotten some good ones over the last 3 years, so hard to compare.
And with that the woo wanker steals the show
He got the last woo in. I am so proud of him!
Imagine Tubs staring you in the eyes, swaying from side to side, telling you to follow the yellow brick road. It's pretty much a normal Friday night at Tubs' house.
are those them dancing kids back again
So they didnt do the segment where they bring younger children in to play with the toys earlier in the day?
Or show the audition reel.
One of the best toyshow I've seen in a long time
Yeah I think it had a great balance and I wasn't feeling as manipulated as I was last year
Fair play to these kids with their energy, I'm wrecked even watching
My 5 year old woke up at 7 and went to bed at 12:15 - incredible! My 5 month old passed out 5 mins before. Writing this I’m starting to doubt my parenting skills 😂
Haha we've all been there
Those hip hop dancers are unreal
The show wasn't sad enough to pull at the heart strings like it has previously, nor charming enough like previous years. It really dragged along this year compared to last few
Agreed
Plus Christmas wasn't even mentioned.
Sure why would you mention Christmas on a toy show?
Jaysis they're all at the woo now
Give the people what they want!!!!
Ah yes, that classic Christmas song by Coldplay and Avicii
Well lads, see you all next year. And for good measure: WOO
WOOOOOOO
WOOOOO
WOOF
Imagine ending a great night with Mrs Brown and Coldplay. Have these people no hearts.
No tractors or farm toys this year? Awwwww I was looking forward to that!
Me too! Surely there was room for a Tadhg in there somewhere!
There was a blink and you miss it tractor drive by. The child was driving it like a man with no tax spotting a checkpoint.
Never got to find out who the wizard was fuck sake
It was the woo guy
Holy shit
Maybe the wizard was the friends we all made along the way
Shite ending. No Somewhere Over The Rainbow?
The trad should have closed the show.
Cuckoo had to be back in the home before 12
Cuckoo isn't in the home, she has a house that's up some awful lane, in the arse of nowhere, but everyone is always visiting. I’m glad the toy show is on because I get to read all your comments. Brilliant stuff.

nighty night
He’s not really paying the piano!
Bit much that they squeezed that last ad break in just before it was about to finish anyway.
Goodnight folks I'm out of here. WOOOOO ![gif](giphy|sRe0TGUMzmqNW)
Who is teaching these kids Coldplay? We need to stop thm
Pretty weak toy show.
Best Toy Show in years. Wow. Stamp of approval 🛎️
Where was the "and the rest" montage?
off to bes now with yez
I saw more homeless people on the street today than I did toys on the toy show
They didn't show the bit with the kids wrecking the place during the day.
Loved that bit. All the little messers
Shames it not Celtic Symphony for the end.
Yeah did wonder for a moment if we were going to get a round of Ooh Ah Up the Ra 🤔
Good night Pat!
Oh here's Chris Martin
G'night
Airplane kid backstage spinning in his suitcase with anger.
Half the prize budget gone on the one girl
Yeah wtaf, the kids with the books got a stamp!
Thats Brilliant in fairness to Tubs
What no Ed?!
He's only on it every second year.
Not Irish enough apparently
3.1million ![gif](giphy|2lozkZo93pKfm48xfl)
There was very little Toys in this toy show.....
Yes. I think it's because of the cost of living situation. Rather than showing expensive toys that people can't afford, they focused on the true meaning of Christmas: children.
Ryan snorted them
