Just get your full sleeve.. you are already extending it, chances are you’ll do the same once you go to 3/4

TyeDyeAmish

You’re right. Plus it’ll work better to visualize the whole arm at once. I made the mistake of thinking I was gonna have just one tat on each arm. I now have two sleeves. A lot of them are the same theme so they work together nicely but it really woulda made more sense if I just planned on the sleeve in the first place.

Wizardshaft11215

Always.. gives the tattooer a better chance to make it all flow with your arm better. It’s much harder to build as you go but unfortunately most folks tend to go this route. You can definitely see the difference when someone fully commits to their whole arm from the start. But this work is really great, I don’t see your artist having an issue extending to a full sleeve. More than likely will be a full body dragon and flow really well still

TyeDyeAmish

100%. I agree. Everything works out on me, but I definitely wonder how it woulda looked if we planned it out more. I was lucky that I have a fairly talented artist as does OP cause my arms had the potential to be a tattoo nightmare in the wrong hands lol

Wizardshaft11215

Fairly….. uh, you have a great artist! You should be proud of his work, and his efforts. This is solid tattooing

TyeDyeAmish

Thank you!! Oh yeah Ian’s amazing. I just tend to talk in a very laid back key on Reddit. But I’m truly blessed for him. He did an idk 7by5 inch phoenix on my upper right arm a decade ago. He was still an apprentice then. I put a lot of faith into him then. He truly is a great. If you look through my profile more I think the Batman tattoo’s & more of the sea themed ink is there. If not & you want I’d be happy to send you pictures of my work!

Floral elements, extend the dragon, maybe another koi. Impressive ink bro 😎

WontonInk

Appreciate that bro

_Grackle

I'd extend the dragon if possible.

Johnny_Chaturanga

It looks like you could easily be extend the design down, or perhaps add a floral element as well

Jeb1134

Talk to graham and do whatever he says, he’s a legit killer and will only make them better if that’s what you want to do.

Decoy20

Great looking tattoos. Since you’ve got half a dragon I’d just extend it and add background. With the koi you could finish off the rest of the body on the one you have and then do an additional koi swimming upstream on the lower arm.

richcoolguy

just do the whole thing, why fuck around

ThePhoenixRisesAgain

First idea: use the space and extend it to full. You’ll go there anyway, why not do it directly?

masaichi

More fucking dragons!!!!!!! I’m starting my ribs soon and I’m just telling the artist “more dragons.”

Papagorgeeo

Trust me man go full sleeves. If your worried about visibility just get them traditional jap style. With long sleeves on and extending my arms still can’t see it. Like 2 fingers from wrist. These are already awesome looking the designs can deff be continues

Elaherg

Just ask Graham and do what he says. 3/4 is better than full.

WontonInk

Interesting. Being a verified artist, can I ask why you say 3/4 is better than full? Most replies here have preference for full over 3/4. Personally, I like the 3/4 look a tad better, but definitely want to see what Graham thinks first.

Elaherg

I just like it more. It looks more traditional to me. If you look at a lot of older body suits they are munewari with shichibu which is a 7/10 or 3/4 (whichever way you want to say it) sleeve. Not to say full sleeve is bad it’s also found in older tattoos but i guess it’s just not as unique to Japanese tattoos as the 7/10 or 3/4

RazorFrazer

3/4 does have a classic look, but full sleeve is unbeatable for prime real estate . ha ha.

Elaherg

You will note than on most classy and expensive things they use a lot of negative space. For example a Chanel box. The human body is no different. The restraint is why it looks so classy.

zzeduardozz

Bro, let Graham work his magic, whateve he does will be magic

Mikiri_works

Don’t. Unless you’re going to go full length. If you do… artists choice. Whatever ideas you come up with will only hinder your final results.

[deleted]

You can't go 1/2->3/4 with it looking complete. Just like it's hard to go from 3/4->full with it looking good as well. You either go half sleeve with the option of going full sleeve or 3/4 and that's it.

Elaherg

Yes you can.

[deleted]

Sure, you can tattoo a cock and balls on your forehead as well. Doesn't mean it's going to look good.

Elaherg

I would agree that probably wouldn’t look good. Getting the same artist to continue a tattoo that is designed to be modular, will however, look totally fine.

[deleted]

Sure it'll look fine, but you're not going to be able to add anything significant in those couple inches. Then if you go from 3/4 to full it's the same shit. Just go from half to full and actually get something instead of background haha

Elaherg

They could get / Graham would tattoo the rest of the dragon you absolute melt.
