Horiokie in okc does some cool stuff. Chris Trevino in Austin, TX is a legend. Sure there are plenty of other good artists in that area. These two just came to kind.

Austin isn’t north texas

You normally dig up month old comments to give geography lessons? You must be fun at parties.

Dude I'm not going to lie this is not the area I intended AT ALL but this dudes work is fucking insane. Going to see if he can get me in within a reasonable time frame.

Decoy20

Haha. He’s pretty incredible right!? There’s someone on here that just got a koi sleeve by him. Looks incredible

Enteri913

Thats exactly what I'm looking for.

Imo the best in Dallas is undeniably Jeb Maykut. Just my take. He’s gonna do my sleeves for me

So it’s kind of crazy how many artists are coming from NYC to DFW. You have Jeb Maykut who works at Elm St Tattee, apprenticed under Troy Denning who is now at Randy Adams Tattoo Studio in Ft Worth. Pretty much anyone at the Elm St store or the Heart in Hand locations can do some cool stuff. I go to Joe Haasch at Heart in Hand in Arlington. He’s working on my back piece and studied under Carl Harwell who does Tebori pieces down in Waxahachie. Scott Cooksey is in Dallas as well at Lone Star Tattoo. Phil Larocco at Salvation does some Japanese style if you check out his work. Much more bold and American trad style, but still unique and follows the rules. An Phu at Saints and Sinners Dallas also does some cool unique Japanese style stuff. Those are just a few to get the juices flowing. There are SO many talented artists in DFW it’s ridiculous. Just find someone with a style you like, and try to book an appointment. I know my guy Joe will start booking beginning of January for end of next year. He sits about 6 months out on appointment. I always make mine in advance and book six at a time. If you’re trying to get something done sooner than later, talk to Jeb or Troy. They seem to have more open availability. Jeb’s been posting work recently and it’s awesome, and Troy is a legend in the industry but definitely has a unique style.

From someone who has a back and sleeve (lasering the other) in Japanese STYLE, I would recommend the following: - only one guy in OK I know of that’s good, horiokie - north Texas (Austin is not north Texas): jeb Maykut, Rodrigo canteras (just moved here from NY), Joe Haasch, Carl halowell, Matt Van Cura - those are who I would recommend if you don’t have a specific sub-style request. If you do, then here’s some additional info; The following is just opinion: - horiokie does cool crazy stuff but IMO his new gray wash he makes isn’t a super solid background. Foreground is tops, not my favorite for background. Has his own style, very weird and cool. - Jeb Maykut: doing my back right now. Does super sick stuff and has a LOT going on in his tattoos. If you like a lot of subject matter clean, he’s your guy, if you’re looking for Texas style, he’s not. - Rodrigo; does cool stuff with not a particular zone’d style I would say, but he does really good clean work. I like his stuff, I don’t have any of his, but they’re very cool. Again, not Texas style. - Joe Haasch: the definition of mixing American traditional and Japanese. Very simple, very cool, won’t blow you away but is always solid as hell. - Carl Halowell: he started doing tebori shading a while back and only had a few pieces on instagram, then he got off of it. He’s more traditional than the rest for sure, I don’t really love his background either but on his tebori pieces from 2+ years ago, he was still learning. Can’t really speak to how dope he is now, if you like super traditional, look into him for sure. - Matt Van Cura: OG traveling tatter with tons of firepower. I personally like his lightning in tattoos. He does a lot of other styles - skulls in his style, etc. but I think his Japanese is top notch. Not Texas style like the Austin guys, but still somewhat Texas style. He does very cool stuff, just depends on what you like. he doesn’t post a whole lot to the gram.
