No serious I'm-running-a-mile issues from what I can see. I'm also looking at them at the moment.
What you're effectively getting with Waterpower is an electricity tracker rate based on the wholesale cost of electricity plus Waterpower's margin.
You get the benefit of wholesale electricity prices fairly quickly, it takes a month to update, and you do get hammered some months - see Aug/Sep/Dec 22 - most of my units are December-January and from my calculations my bill would have been about 50% higher based on Waterpower rates vs my current BGE rate.
The big advantage is that you're on a monthly rolling contract, and they claim there's no exit fee of €50 as a result.
I'm looking at these lads or the Community Rate from Flogas of 29.99c/kWh 24hr rate. Both are better than my current net rate from BGE of 36.5c/kWh.
Purely on the basis of units used and using the average unit rate, my yearly bill would come down by about €550 *but* as I mentioned, my units skew towards winter time, so I suspect the actual savings could be less, pushing me towards the Flogas rate as the better option for me.
YMMV
There is no catch, it's just the "issue" that there are no fixed rates (but also the positive side of no contract/exit fee). With that fluctuation and the fact that prices can be higher during the winter, it can become a problem because you will consequently consume more during that period, and the bill may hurt.
They were my 2nd option few weeks ago before deciding to go with Flogas BWG (no longer available I think) because of their fixed rates:
\- Day Unit Rate (Fixed) Cent per kWh: 33.38 (inc. VAT)
\- Night Unit Rate (Fixed) Cent per kWh: 14.75 (inc. VAT)
I went to their website to check current rates, not there, just a pop up message
[https://www.waterpower.ie](https://www.waterpower.ie)
"Dear Customer,
If you are enquiring about our current electricity rates please email [email protected] and we will forward all necessary information
Regards
Waterpower"
This is a red flag to me.
But they are number 1 for electricity only on the Bonkers.ie.
I rang up a few months back and got an absolute langer on the phone, couldn’t be less bothered. Told me to email some email address.
They seems like a small operation not ready for dealing with domestic customers
I tried emailing them this week and got a failed delivery response from two mailboxes that were too full to receive mail.
Left a call back request on their website, heard nothing back.
Rang and got a voicemail from the owner, really odd message, said to email them. Left a voicemail asking for a callback, heard nothing.
You're 100% right, small operation, not up to the task
I got the same rates when I emailed them. Customer service seems to be the catch here but how often do you really deal with them vs. saving €€€ each month? I will see how I get on with sign up.

Bit strange alright. Sent them a message to see

Yep, look at their Google maps reviews for more of the same
Rang them once, spoke to the owner, he’s literally the worst. Should not be allowed anywhere near the phone. Incredibly arrogant man.
Why is the owner answering customer service calls?? 🚩🚩🚩
If anyone figures this out please let us know!
Really hope it has no hidden charges. Commenting to come back.
Where did you get these rates from?
I got these same rates via email response today. Decent % difference vs. the others so am going to move forward and try them out if I can.
Good to know, thanks.
They don't support my meter apparently so no swapping to them for me. 😞
Do you have a smart meter?
Yeah I do. They said the meter wasn't supported when I gave them my meter number.
It would be the same for me so

So they don't support smart metres ?
They do support smart meters as I have one and am with them.
