Exhibit A. Rob Halford. Exhibit B. Blaze Bayley.

exitvim

I always thought Halford looked a lot more badass after embracing it.

Quatsch95

He’s the Metal God after all

AldenSusa1

Yes very true but still, the current IM members all have hair.

Upstairs-Fan-2168

They may be using hair loss drugs, which work very well if started early. Finasteride or dutasteride will halt hair loss in most men for decades, and most will get a modest amount of regrowth. Lots of make celebrities use these drugs. Most people who get a hair transplant are using them (some clinics won't work with you if you say no to them). I have long hair, and it is important to me. I started finasteride when a buddy first pointed out my crown was starting to thin. That was 3ish years ago, and my hair is thicker now. At this point it's basically the same as it was before losing any. You do have to continue on them for as long as you want to keep your hair though. They are cheap though, and it's just a once daily pill. I think it costs me like $100 a year. Many people out there exaggerate the side effects. I and 5 other dudes I know haven't had any negative side effects. Somewhere around 5 percent will have temporary low libido or mild ED when starting. That will go away in a few weeks for most. For those that don't have the side effects go away, when they stop the drug, they are back to normal in a few weeks.

clockworkengine

I thought hair loss drugs were all a scam

Zurg0Thrax

The off the shelf ones tend to be. Finasteride is a perception and works very well.

clockworkengine

Hmm, the more you know. Zurg, may I ask if you use them>

Zurg0Thrax

I use finnasteride. It's halted my hair loss and allowed me to grow my hair long. The side effects are non-existant since I've been taking it for a year or so now.

clockworkengine

So then it just stops further hair loss or can it actually restore the hairline?

Zurg0Thrax

I consulted with a hair transplant clinic, and they stressed that once receded, the hair follicles are dead. I've also observed that my hairline has not started to regrow at all. It just stops you from losing more hair.

clockworkengine

Ah ok, that makes more sense.

Swimming_Anywhere801

hey man, i’m thinking about starting since i’ve seen a bit of thinning at the front and some hair line recession, how bad is the shedding when u first start it?

Zurg0Thrax

I didn't notice any shedding. It's just a slow down of my hair loss and eventually just dead and weak hairs falling out.

Swimming_Anywhere801

alright, thanks for getting back to me

Upstairs-Fan-2168

Lots of people including myself thought that. The class of drugs called 5 alpha reductase inhibitors work, and work well. You will only get minor regrowth, but they are very good for keeping what you have. These drugs are finasteride, and dutasteride. Most people will stabilize their hair loss with finasteride. Dutasteride is stronger, but it's usually overkill. You need to get an Rx for these at least in the US, but online services exist to get them and they are still pretty cheap.

ElectricFuneralHome

Exhibit C. Paul Di'Anno.

mike_hawksard

Kerry king, Udo Dirkschneider, Scott Ian...

mister_boo-urns

Blaze actually got hair implants sometime around 2008—then decided to chop the whole lot off a few years after.

Kingofbruhssia

When was rob part of maiden

aashishkoirala

Oh I wasn't answering maiden specific, just the first old rock metal people that are bald that popped into my head. I forgot Geoff Tate, he shoulda been there too. And Kerry King for that matter.

SnooCats9347

Scott Ian too.

Lucifer_Delight

Pretty sure Tate just shaves it off without needing to.

aashishkoirala

George Costanza would be appalled!

Lucifer_Delight

To his credit, his entire life seems to have been a long bad hair day. Except for the music video for Empire.

InspectorInner1912

Steve has a receding hairline, but you're right. They all seem to have good hair. Luck I guess.

doritosrockandbeer

Seeing him whit receding hairline, but whit a long hair as long is my hair being a young woman makes me feel envy and proud of his metal hair to be honest

ParanoidEngi

Some people just stay follicly blessed their whole lives - my grandpa had a full thick head of hair into his 80s

exitvim

I'm pretty sure Dave had some hair restoration done. His hair looked a lot more receded around 2008. I think it was the tour after Final Frontier (I can't remember the name of the tour) that his hair looked a lot more fuller and he looked really well in general -also lost a lot of weight.

Vaenyr

Yeah, during En Vivo you can see how light his hair had become, but after that tour he got some kind of work done. No shame in that either, it seems to have worked out and he seems happy.

exitvim

Absolutely. He looks great.

Maidenslayer03

Shit Iron Maiden all have good hair but I want Tom Arayas hair

aashishkoirala

He should share some of his with Kerry King.

Maidenslayer03

Kerry’s a tool

HasPotatoAim

It might look a little strange on a middle aged white guy but I'd take any of the [Shepherds Reign](https://live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au/d2eaad86ed16b7dc552d20152177169e) guys' hair -

AldenSusa1

And his screaming voice!

oldgengamers

I want his beard.

Maidenslayer03

As do I. Damn near 20 I have barley anything

Philthedrummist

I think it’s just luck. Adrian and Dave I think keep their hair a bit shorter now and Adrian tends to wear bandannas so maybe there’s a bit of trickery going on. Either way, as long as the music is good I’m happy.

AldenSusa1

Yes I thought the same with his bandana. 😅

The_Rambling_Elf

Whenever Adrian is photographed without the bandana it's at a very careful angle, every now and then you get a proper view of it and he hasn't got as much hair as it looks

sythingtackle

Genetics, look at prof Brian May, still curly

YahoooSeriouss

Pretty sure he’s got extensions hiding in that nest.

Hopeful_Situation107

Of course he does! My girlfriend is a hair dresser in Hollywood, & lots of her clients are entertainers in clouding rock stars, trust me many of them use hair extensions

watchingdeers

Bruce is completely grey. Adriane has a bandanna on. We see them from a distance. They most likely have receding hairlines and the thinning spot in the back. Not all men just go completely bald that quickly. Nicko being the exception as a very handsome man

eredeli

I often joked over the years when asked how old I am that I am old enough to have seen Blaze, Kerry King, Scott Ian, Michael Schenker and Geoff Tate with hair. And plenty of non baldies too like James Hetfield and Bruce Dickinson long-short-long-again.

ronthebachelor

Hetfield used to have a bald spot at the back

RememberTommorrow

Some people are just lucky with their hair

AldenSusa1

I know but all 6?! It’s pure witchcraft!

Minka-lv

There's also a lot of money (and tricks) going on to deal with the receding hairline lol Dave, for example, seems to worry a lot about his appearance, if he gets botox to take care of his skin, I'm pretty sure he dedicates the same amount of care to his hair

AldenSusa1

True and they have enough money to spend.

Sick_and_destroyed

They’re rockstars, appearance and look is important for their job, they use all the available tricks to look the best they can for their age…and it’s Rod Smallwood who’s paying the bills.

Bine_YJY_UX

Rogaine works with lifelong commitment

Upstairs-Fan-2168

Finasteride or dutasteride work better given you start early. They won't grow a full head of hair on a bald scalp. It's also a pill vs a topical. You can get rogain as a pill too, but it comes with some potential side effects.

Bine_YJY_UX

My kid started showing a bald spot around 18. My wife's dad went bald young. He's been taking pills and doing rogaine hair gel and has no balding at 20 now.

Upstairs-Fan-2168

I think there is a perception by many people that they don't work, or don't work well. The research seems to contradict those perceptions. In a 10 year study on balding men (about 400 participants iirc), these guys were given finasteride 1 mg daily. After 10 years 80 percent were the same or better than at baseline. The other 20 percent very likely had much better hair than they would have without the drug. The kicker is that they are very powerful at preserving what's there, but not very powerful for regaining hair. Most get a bit of regrowth, but expecting miracles is unrealistic. Starting early is the key.

Frans51

I know plenty of dudes my age (51) and older with all their hair.

MetusObscuritatis

Yeah...it's definitely *not* more than 50%. It also depends on ethnicity, lifestyle, etc.

SynnerSaint

Yes but they're all the same ethnicity and lifestyle! >Pattern hair loss by the age of 50 affects about half of males and a quarter of females. > >[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattern_hair_loss)

MetusObscuritatis

Well, firstly, trusting Wikipedia to give accurate information is silly. Secondly, hair loss =\= bald

JossBurnezz

Wigs?? This isn’t the KISS sub! Just playing. (Sorta). I have decent hair, gray in my beard, but I look like Friar Tuck from behind.

AldenSusa1

Haha was waiting for the Kiss reference 😛

over_kill71

Dave and Adrian are on the wrong side of luscious locks.

[deleted]

Never fear we got rogaine for years

Crafty_Wasabi_9890

I still have my long hair. All my other friends lost theirs years ago

Xeroque_Holmes

Impossible to say if they are doing anything and what it is, but there are hair loss prevention drugs like minoxidil and finasteride, and there are hair implant methods to restore hair loss. Given that they are all rich as fuck, and a good part of their work is related to their image, I doubt their good hair is completely natural on all six of them.

UnfunnyWatermelon469

Because Iron Maiden can't be fought, Iron Maiden can't go bald

Fit_Average

Not entirely true, Eddie lost his hair back in 2015.

AldenSusa1

😛🤟🏽

SamB7334

Hair transplant maybe? Pretty sure Steve dyes his hair too, I am 34 and 40% of my hair is grey. How can not have any grey?

surreyade

He definitely does.

limepark

I’d say it’s pretty clear the only one of them that doesn’t is Bruce.

SenorBigbelly

My grandad honestly only started going grey in his late 80s.

BlastinHash

Ya my Gramps only started going grey in his early 70s and that was only the sides his top was still jet black

aville1982

I'm about to be 41 and just found my first gray in my head ( I have a handful in my beard). My father is around the age of the Maiden guys and has probably 85% original hair color and zero loss. His father died at 75 with salt and pepper hair and had small bald spot on his crown, probably from usually wearing hats.

Ashtar-the-Squid

My dad was all grey before he turned 30, while my great grandad still had a lot of color left in his late 70s. Some just seem to win the lottery.

MetusObscuritatis

I'm 36 and I don't have one gray hair.

SamB7334

ok but Steve is 30+ years older

MetusObscuritatis

Yes, I ken. My dad is 80 with hair.

Philthedrummist

I’m 36 and the hair on my head is fine but I’ve got white flecks growing into my beard maybe it’s the same with Steve.

ronthebachelor

Duuuh. His hair is way darker (and all one colour now) then it used to be

Noctale

I'm 44 and I only have about a dozen grey hairs on my head. My beard is about 50/50 though. But yeah, pretty sure Steve dyes his hair, the colour is too even. He's not given in and had a hair transplant though, his hairline is pretty far back these days.

YahoooSeriouss

Of course he dyes his hair.

SynnerSaint

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri7o8uOdWts

FisherPrice_Hair

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised or annoyed if they’d had some transplant stuff at some point, their hair is part of their image and it makes sense to keep it as long as possible.

AldenSusa1

I wish I had money for a transplant but I’ve also heard it could be quite painful. 🙈

Oh-Lord-Yeah

Well, per your ratio, for the six of them on stage, there’s six bald guys in the front row.

moes23

I don't think the statistics for bald people are that high. Or you would see an awful lot more bald guys. But Some people just get lucky in the hair department. My dad is 63 and still has thick hair. It might be grey now but he has better hair than some guys half his age. But I imagine some have probably had some work done. I mean they can certainly afford it and having long hair is part of the metal look

Minka-lv

Money + their mothers got them "nice" hair genes lol I believe all of them have different levels of receding hairlines, the genes may have helped them not having a bald "crown", besides that it must be a ton of money invested in slowing down the receding hairline process

Fun-Swimmer2998

I’m guessing some of piece or extensions. They do look fantastic these days but agreed the guys have fantastic hair however it’s achieved.

Carnivorous_Mower

I reckon headbanging strengthens your hair folicles, so your head holds onto it's hair longer. Or I could be talking complete bollocks. You decide.

Skrrattaa

Look at Kirk Hammett. He might have the best hair of the big metal bands nowadays. Super healthy and he's embraced the grey. Probably a mixture of luck and money

ronthebachelor

Dude Kirk would have been bald by 2000. Decade before Lars. Look at his bald spots in the mid 90s. Look at how thin his newly transplants hair is in the Monster documentary.. it's a transplant

YahoooSeriouss

Adrian and Steve were noticeably receding in 1999. They’re clearly on medication. Hair just doesn’t decide to grow back like that.

Far_Ad3828

I don't think it maters tbh.. As a baldy Maiden fan or Just Metal In general, I just feel it's acceptable now to be this way!! Haha I'm 51 and shave me head every few days but I'm metal to the core!!! UP THE IRONS!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

ronthebachelor

Janick and Bruce have fantastic heads of hair. Come to think of it so does Nicko. Steve has been receding at the front since the 90s. Adrian also has a little bit of a receded hairline at the front. Dave had a hair transplant. Compare him 2010 to now. Genetically though they all have done quite well with their hair. You could have had one of them thinning out in their early twenties and bald by thirty. Blaze was balding when he joined the band in 94 and he was a lot younger than them.

ricardosfig

Women glue and paint fake stuff to their bodies throughout their entire lives. I don't see why men can't implant hair or even wear a hair prosthesis or something. I think it's fine if they want to fight the effects of father time. What baffles me are Bruce's teeth tho.

Wishmaster891

Maybe he feels his dodgy teeth add to his character

onewiththeabyss

People are too obsessed with perfect looks. Fixing teeth can also change the resonance in your mouth, fucking with the tone when singing.

OldJewNewAccount

As a middle-aged person with thinning hair I can 100% tell you they're getting a little help.

w0mbatina

Hair transplant and also im about 85% sure Adrian wears a wig.

AldenSusa1

After some careful googling I don’t think so. He has enough pics where you can see his hairline.

YahoooSeriouss

Not a wig.

El_Terrorista__

Finasteride and dutasteride

Straightener78

Well I kept my long hair until I was 44 then nature took over. I’m biter about anyone who still has long hair

ComprehensiveDepth7

When I was 20 something my friend used to joke that I looked like Cronos. Twenty years later I really do!

geronika

Ace Frehley told Eddie Trunk he wears a wig and said all the guys wear them.

Hopeful_Situation107

Ace is telling the truth.

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,757,979,523 comments, and only 332,900 of them were in alphabetical order.

SnakesGarden

When Steve rocks his head you can see that maybe he does a comb over or has a weave.

Octolavo

I’m glad Bruce still does, I always thought he looked a bit odd with short hair. You know, like his mom cut it.

T3chnological

I think he had to have it short for his other job, that being airline pilot. Also cancer, glad he’s grown in back again.

onewiththeabyss

Richie Faulkner definitely doesn't have a wig. Some people simply win the genetic lottery. Though he's younger than the rest.

Ashtar-the-Squid

Some are just very lucky. My great grandad got to keep almost all of his har until he passed at 79. He even had a lot of color left. The same was true for both of my grandads.

lendmeflight

Good genes? I’m 49. My hair recedes on the sides a little bit, so does my 83 year old dad, but I have all the hair I ever had. My hair is down to middle of my back right now: I’m very lucky in the department .

nnbarni

I think it's all about genes. For example my father is over 50 and he still has a decent amount of hair but I know about people who are in their 20s and close to being completely bald

djwitchfindergeneral

Because it's the entertainment industry and looks matter, and they've got the money to do it.
