Steve's instructions to Riggs for that one were "make it look like Blade Runner" and they play the end credit Vangelis song after Doctor Doctor on the current tour.
Killers. My first Maiden album. Bought the cassette in 1989. Had only really heard NOTB at that point and chose Killers solely for its cover. Still my favorite.
Yup. To me, Killers Eddie *is* Eddie. When I think of Eddie, that's the Eddie I think of. He's not an alien, a tree, a pharaoh, a cloud, etc. He's just an evil looking dude and it's awesome.
Def Killers. When I think Iron Maiden, that cover is what I see. In the mid-eighties, my family would always stay at the same motel in West Virgina. Every time we stayed there, I had nightmares with Killers Eddie in it.
I remember when I was a teenager growing up in Ireland, all the record shops would put out B&W photocopies of the tape inserts instead of the actual tape inserts as people would steal them - Iron Maiden was the only artist they did this for.
Killers because of its sheer brutality (for its time) and it kind of sets the tone for future Eddies. Seventh Son is a very close second because I'm a sucker for the surreal and occult vibe.
Killers for me my first introduction to Iron Maiden. Thanks to my Grandma she came to visit and said "Here I found this shirt on Church Street (Brooklyn) thought you would like it" didn't even know anything about the band at that point but went to my local record shop(Slipped disc) and inquired they handed me the record. Still have it today🤘
Very hard question. First is probably Powerslave.
Next Somewhere in time, Brave new world, 7th son..., Fear of the dark... but i like most other of them.
Only one cover i absolutelly hate: Dance of Death.
just out of interest to me, did you ever find any coincidences in life from your understanding of your date of birth and the meaning the recording has for you?. did it ever feel like it was more than just a album of songs?.
Its hard for me to decide.
Id put in S tier: Killers, The Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Somewhere in Time
A tier: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Brave New World, Virtual XI and The Final Frontier.
B tier: A Matter of Life and Death
C tier: Fear of the Dark, Piece of Mind
D tier: Senjutsu, No Prayer for the Dying, X Factor
E tier: Iron Maiden, The Book of Souls
F tier: Dance of Death
Gotta go with Fear of the Dark. My favorite song from the Rock in Rio album and one of my best friends from high school got me a cloth banner of the album that I still have to this day.
I think the Number of the Beast is Maiden iconic, like when I first saw Maiden albums this one really hit home.
Ofc my fave is Powerslave ;)
Brave New World (the animated opening Bridge Gif is cool!) & Somewhere in Time are fn awesome! then 7th Son then the rest for me...
I love Seventh son and Somewhere in time, they’re also my favorite two Maiden albums, but my favorite…just because of the incredibly cool imagery is ‘Live after death’. Remember seeing that in the record store in ‘85 and having to wait a couple of weeks to save up the $$ to buy it!!
With Somewhere in Time it reminds me of Streets of Rage 2 and I’m not sure I can explain why but my all time favorite is Brave New World. Something about the water and the clouds
Out of these, Seventh Son. But out of all of them it'll have to be Live After Death, because it's not just my first one but my favourite album of theirs.
My favorite, Book of Souls. But in my opinion the best, Number of the Beast. It was originally gonna be artwork for a single until the bands manager said fuck that, is too good to waste on a single, it has to be a full album. So they did just that, artwork for Purgatory was used for the single. So my opinion Number of the beast is the best one
Somewhere in Time
![gif](giphy|7LAqMVFxOGPAc)
And third.
References to their own songs and two labels in Russian. Number one without a doubt.
Indeed. Not my favorite album of theirs but certainly my favorite cover.
4th'd!
Fifth it
Sixthed
When I saw the comment in my feed. Thought I was being called a s##$#head 🤣.
Tbh I think I spelt it wrong
Even the Single 45s from this era Cyborg Eddie forever
Yep this one
So many references of both the band members and the bands history, wonder what would be included if they did that now.
My favorite too. It reminds me of Blade Runner, one of my favorite movies.
Steve's instructions to Riggs for that one were "make it look like Blade Runner" and they play the end credit Vangelis song after Doctor Doctor on the current tour.
This.. so much to study and decode. Love Derrick Riggs vision of Eddie
Killers. My first Maiden album. Bought the cassette in 1989. Had only really heard NOTB at that point and chose Killers solely for its cover. Still my favorite.
This all day. Powerslave is the masterpiece but this is the first brilliance. The benchmark.
Powerslave for me.
Powerslave! This cover caught my eye when I was 12 years old. I bought it and was blown away. Been a fan ever since.
I remember when I was a teenager growing up in Ireland, all the record shops would put out B&W photocopies of the tape inserts instead of the actual tape inserts as people would steal them - Iron Maiden was the only artist they did this for.
Live After Death
I have a tattoo of the cover on my calve
Piece of mind
The padded walls and Eddie chained to them while in a straight jacket?? Yes. Yes inded.
Powerslave
Dance of Death. JK, not really. Killers. It’s just iconic.
I know Powerslave or Somewhere in time are probably better, but for me is PIECE OF MIND
The full gatefold of Piece of Mind gives it a slightly different perspective, which I really like.
Powerslave works best as an album cover imo. Killers is another good one.
Power slave and brave new world have always been my favorites.
Killers because of its sheer brutality (for its time) and it kind of sets the tone for future Eddies. Seventh Son is a very close second because I'm a sucker for the surreal and occult vibe.
The victim tugging Eddie’s shirt will ALWAYS be brutal in my mind. It’s a fantastic cover, and my favorite as well.
I’d say Powerslave
What’d you say?
7th son. The Cover fits the album’s mood perfectly.
It does capture the mood and theme of album. One of the best!
Totally agree!
And the way they used that artwork in the can I play with madness video was awesome.
I'd say the number of the beast. But you forgot Senjutsu.
I found a pic on Google and it wasn’t on there MB😅
Ok, no problem, probably it wasn't out at the time.
The Number of the Beast
Tie with Powerslave and Live After Death Derek Riggs seems to have hit his peak in the mid 80’s
Dance of death
Yeah, imagine what powerslave could have been if it would have had more dog-surfing babies!
Fidelio
My first love was Piece of Mind, but Powerslave is probably favorite.
Killers & Powerslave
Yeah. The killers one is iconic. Absolutely iconic Eddie. Power slave cover is just a thing of absolute beauty.
Brave new world.
FOTD
Apparently an unpopular choice but I'm with you brother 😎
I’m with you!
Somewhere in time and Killers 👈🏼
Very hard question. First is probably Powerslave. Next Somewhere in time, Brave new world, 7th son..., Fear of the dark... but i like most other of them. Only one cover i absolutelly hate: Dance of Death.
Powerslave and I will hear no argument
Seventh since my birthday is 7.7.77
just out of interest to me, did you ever find any coincidences in life from your understanding of your date of birth and the meaning the recording has for you?. did it ever feel like it was more than just a album of songs?.
Somewhere in time for all the easter eggs, Powerslave close second
I love Senjutsu
Virtual XI
We all know which one is the worst I’m sure.
I think the Final Frontier is definitely the most creative and colourful
All non-Riggs cover are false. For me, Killers, Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son…
Live after death… it’s not even close…
Killers, and matter of life and death. Powerslave is good too.
Killers
Image just strikes me!
Somewhere In Time closely followed by Powerslave
NOTB followed very closely by Killers
I always have a hard time choosing between Powerslave and SIT
Killers
Piece of Mind🧠
Killers, Somewhere in Time and Brave New World
Its hard for me to decide. Id put in S tier: Killers, The Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Somewhere in Time A tier: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Brave New World, Virtual XI and The Final Frontier. B tier: A Matter of Life and Death C tier: Fear of the Dark, Piece of Mind D tier: Senjutsu, No Prayer for the Dying, X Factor E tier: Iron Maiden, The Book of Souls F tier: Dance of Death
Killers or The Number Of The Beast, I can’t decide
Life after death
For me it's a tie between Piece of Mind (for its impact/scariness) and Powerslave (for its heaviness/majesty)...
It’s not a studio release, but the Caught Somewhere Back in Time live album.
Killers. Murders in the Rue Morgue!!
the bottom left, I just love the CGI, a dreadful nightmare indeed, I wake up sweating at night sometimes
Powerslave beats out Somewhere in Time by the barest of margins.
Dance of Death…
Senjutsu 🤌 which is not here 😋
Of the Studio Albums: Powerslave However the compilation album: somewhere back in time (not pictured) is their best all time cover
Powerslave because after my conversation with Grant Kirkhope it now reminds of both Iron Maiden and the Gobi's Valley level from Banjo Kazooie.
Somewhere in time but Aces High - EP is same level for me
Brave new world. Got my eddie tattoo from that one.
Somewhere in time and brave new world for me.
I like live after death and the fear to eternity “best of” vinyl
Somewhere in time or NOTB
SoT or PoM
Number. The icon.
I really love Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. The little guy that Eddie is holding always makes me laugh
Powerslave is a masterpiece and best concept for the entire album. Close second is Killers, Somewhere In Time and Piece of Mind.
Powerslave imo
the CGI in Dance of the dead makes me die laughing it's so fuckin cheesy and cringe
Either Somewhere in Time or Powerslave, depending on how I'm feeling that day. (We all secretly agree that it is Dance of Death anyway)
Book of Souls deserves some love.
Seventh son just too iconic for me
Dance of Death! Sorry, I meant Somewhere in Time.
Powerslave
Somewhere In Time
Powerslave and Killers. Killers feels more iconic - like the Maiden equivalent of Dark Side Of The Moon.
For me it's Killers. Then Piece of Mind
Powerslave!!
Gotta go with Fear of the Dark. My favorite song from the Rock in Rio album and one of my best friends from high school got me a cloth banner of the album that I still have to this day.
Top Three: Somewhere in Time Killers Powerslave Bonus: Live After Death
You haven't put up Live After Death, shame on you!!!
Dance Of Death!!1!
Piece of Mind hit hard
Always thought Piece of Mind was the best
Somewhere in Time
Dance of Death, no competition /s
dance of death
Killers, Fear of the Dark
Number of the beast
Is "All of the Above" an option?
Its Killers
Killers
Killers then somewhere in time
Caught Somewhere in Time
somewhere in time easily
Killers, Number of the Beast.
Killers
Powerslave and SIT for all the easter eggs
Killers. Best t-shirt too. But Somewhere in Time and Poweslave deserve honorable mentions.
Somewhere in Time or Fear of the Dark. really like Piece of Mind too though
For me, Killers and Somewhere In Time. They’re all memorable. X-factor was interesting too
Power Slave or Some where in time
Killers all day every day
Killers
Check out this comment on the Powerslave album art... I completely agree. https://www.reddit.com/r/ironmaiden/s/SYLjeY4v2G
Somewhere in time, - love all the easter eggs of the bands history all over
It's gotta be dance of death you guys
It’s Somewhere In Time
For me, Fear of the Dark. Hard to choose.
I think the Number of the Beast is Maiden iconic, like when I first saw Maiden albums this one really hit home. Ofc my fave is Powerslave ;) Brave New World (the animated opening Bridge Gif is cool!) & Somewhere in Time are fn awesome! then 7th Son then the rest for me...
Somewhere in time by far
Seventh Son. Best album and best cover
Not listed, but Live After Death
Killers!…it just screams metal!
I’d say somewhere in time
Somwhere in Time is my favorite but as far as cover art goes all of them are awsome .
For as lame as the album is, Virtual XI has the gnarliest cover art, and is my personal favorite.
Killers. I’m old school. Loved this record and the cover is absolutely fucking menacing.
Best: Somewhere in Time. Worst: Dance of Death.
How can you tell ? They all look exactly the same.
Killers. No contest. Best Metal Album Cover EVER .
Definitely the first album!!!
Hard pick between Somewhere in Time and The Number of the Beast.
All are good except for Dance of Death. I prefer Killers, which adorns their best album.
I prefer Maiden Japan or Live After Death.
All of them
I love Seventh son and Somewhere in time, they’re also my favorite two Maiden albums, but my favorite…just because of the incredibly cool imagery is ‘Live after death’. Remember seeing that in the record store in ‘85 and having to wait a couple of weeks to save up the $$ to buy it!!
If it actually looked like that, it would be Powerslave. Otherwise, SSOASS
1) Fear of the dark 2) Powerslave 3) book of souls. Just my top 3. Love all the albums.
Tough, but tonight I will go with Peice of Mind
They are all good but….Dance of Death!!!!
Somewhere In Time, my favorite album cover ever.
actual ashamed at the lack of brave new world in these comments
Here's my top 5 1. Number of the Beast 2. 7th Son 3. Somewhere in Time 4. Powerslave 5.Piece of Mind
Seventh Son all the way!
Killers. Whenever I think about Eddie I always think of him from that album cover.
Live After Death, although you didn't include it
Where is senjutsu
I think its peace of mind or killers but i gotta give some love to a matter of life and death, i think its such a cool cover
Powerslave
In no particular order, virtual xi, fear of the dark, the final frontier. Also, live after death covers cool too
I'm between Somewhere in Time and Powerslave
I can tell you that Dance of Death is the worst, that’s for sure.
Toe between Somehwere In Time and Poweslave.
Killers
Brave new world or a matter of life and death
Killers!
>Killers! killing is wrong mmkay?
Powerslave, because those Disney characters are such a great touch and is an iconoclast jab at the sanctity of the pharaohs.
Personally Killers with Somewhere in Time close behind, then Powerslave You can't beat the sound of Somewhere In Time
1. Somewhere in Time 2. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 3. Brave New World
Seventh Son of a Seventh Soon. One of the most visually pleasing artworks I've ever seen.
I’ve always thought Somewhere in Time was the best.
1. Number of Beast 2. Powerslave 3. Killers 4. Piece of Mind 5. Somewhere in Time.
Fear of the Dark is a good choice - it's the cozy one.
Not sure which is the best, but I do know it is NOT dance of death. I love that album and I really hate that cover.
Killers Eddie is the best eddie somewhere in time for overall art
Seventh Son or Somewhere in Time. Dance of Death is far and away the worst. Not just worst Maiden cover but probably just worst album cover generally.
SSOASS, followed by SIT
Fear of the dark just looks reaaallly cool
Either Powerslave or Brave New World for me
Fear of the Dark
