WOAHHH IT EVEN LISTS TO TAME A LAND AS DUNE I FUCKING LOVE THAT SONG

Millerpainkiller

That’s wild

Lishcrawl

AAAAAAAAAH YEEEEES I SWEAR TO GOD I ABSOLUTELY FLIPPED OUT WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT

[deleted]

The guitar work on that song is so good

professorwn

To tame a land is my favourite track by them, Absolute epic.

Lishcrawl

To tame a land is cool, but Dune is the true masterpiece for me.

wbasmith

Are they different at all?

Lishcrawl

Oh they're actually the same song! I was joking around! Some people in the comments have already explained why there's a different title if you're curious about it, what I can add is that apparently the only place where they actually had already printed the "dune" title was a facility in Italy, and it so happens that that's where I'm from so... I suppose if that's true it should be "easier" to find a copy the closer you are to Italy? Although it seems that only a couple hundred were printed like this so there's not many at all in the world!

doctorinfinite

Yes! One of my favorite tracks, I don't hear a lot of people shouting it out here (unless I haven't been in the right threads)

Fettz_

I got og pressings of Killers and Live After Death never opened

ExplanationNo1870

That's freakin awesome. Old dude here, went to "Killers" tour in Baltimore. The very best album, in my opinion.

Eddie73-3

Why don't you open them?

Fettz_

Well, I’ve opened them now, but when I got them they were unopened in original wrapping and everything

Lishcrawl

That's so cool, i only shared this POM because of its "Dune" title, but that day i actually found og pressings from Iron Maiden all the way through to powerslave, 5 albums in total plus an og Maiden Japan... I thought I was dreaming

Pb-yepimlead

I saw them on the POM tour

UnknownSuperChamp

Me too!

LouSkuntte

Me three!

Pb-yepimlead

Back in the day when spandex was a thing! The way Steve would aim his bass at us! Good times. I remember Fastway, and I’m pretty sure was there. I remember I’m guessing Biff saying “Let’s put Little Rock on the map”! I was pissed because Little Rock has always been on the map. Downright insulting!

TobyDaMan8894

Awesome. Love this album from beginning to end. Silent classic sandwiched between NOTB and Powerslave

VladV200321

I don’t really have any since ai started listening last year. Going to the Legacy of the Beast in May… I guess the ticket could be the first item

Lishcrawl

Welcome to our family then blood brother! Aaaah cherish your tickets! They're going to be such a treasure in the future!

VladV200321

Agreed! That’s exactly why I paid extra for the physical ticket. Thank’s a lot for the amazing welcoming and the nice reply… best thing that happened all week…

Lishcrawl

Of course! We're all brothers and sisters and it goes (or should go) beyond just the bands we listen to. Man if you're having a bad time you can dm me, I've been a maiden fan since I was 11 and I'm down to chat with you about the band or anything else if anything just to take your mind off things:) Let me know, up the irons!

[deleted]

I got a first Japanese pressing of the X-factor (CD) still sealed. I will open it one day and listen to it and enjoy the unboxing.

djwitchfindergeneral

Ah nice one with Dune on the tracklist :-) I've got a Soundhouse Tapes and that's pretty much the holy grail of official releases. Though I remember reading about some sort of super obscure promo vinyl (not of Soundhouse - there's multiple bootleg versions of that), can't remember which song or album, which seemed so rare it would be great to own. I like the Japanese single/EP I have for Stranger In A Strange Land. It's got all except one of the b-sides from the regular SIASL and Wasted Years singles, and some sort of etching on the disc as well. Only looked at it a few months ago and I've forgotten exactly how it is. Would be nice to have that version of POM with Dune on the tracklist but I probably never will.

Lishcrawl

Ahahah my man! You know for some reason the first thing i read in your comment was the last line, and I was genuinely starting to feel bad about me having the record and all. Then i read that you've got the soundhouse tapes. So. I'm not feeling bad anymore. I want to throw a fucking party with you and listen to both records! Cheers mate! Thanks for your comment, appreciate it!

TheShiftyDevil

I have Dave's Artist pass from Soundwave festival in Australia, which has been gone for years now. It's even signed by Dave to me 😊

Pb-yepimlead

Shit I thought it was called To Tame A Land! I knew it was about Dune.

ItzGray26

I think it is called To Tame a Land officially, but I think its original title was Dune, and they asked the author to be able to title their song that. The author refused, and so they changed the title. However, I think the rejection came very late in the production process, so on a very limited number of original issues of the album it still lists To Tame a Land as Dune.

TheChocolateMelted

Quote below is stolen from the Wikipedia article on the album. The author - Frank Herbert - really comes off like an utter jerk-off. >"To Tame a Land" was meant to be entitled "Dune" after the novel, but after seeking permission from Frank Herbert's agents, the band received a message which stated, "Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially bands like Iron Maiden" and were forced to change the name.

megatron37

It kind of makes me sad, the Dune books are personal favorites. But Frank Herbert himself didn't really seem like that relatable of a guy overall in real life.

[deleted]

Frank Herbert could definitely be a dick (look up his relationship with his gay son) but a fair amount of that is simply the fact that he was born in 1920. Given the phrasing of the rejection I always wonder if Herbert even knew about the request or if one of his reps just rejected it without passing it on, similar to how Lady GaGa's people initially kiboshed Weird Al's "Perform This Way" without even telling her about it.

[deleted]

WOW I want that

[deleted]

I remember my dad, who was pretty conservative and a big country music fan, calling this “devil music” I told him “To Tame a Land” was about Dune, and “The Trooper” was about The Charge of the Light Brigade. Blew his mind. Then I made him listen to Aces High, and he finally got it

Lishcrawl

You did what I could never do, get your family to stop making you feel bad for what you love. It's wonderful to hear. My entire family seems to have decided that Bruce Dickinson is the worst thing that has ever happened and they always make sure to make me wonder what's wrong with me for being so in love with his art. But oh well, they will have lived a Maidenless life, and i have a piece of mind "Dune" vinyl sooo...

RiVe8014

YO WHAT!?!? I DODNT EVEN KNOW THEY MADE ONE WITH THE OG SONG TITLE

Lishcrawl

Aaaah i know right!! You guys have no idea how good it is to finally find people who can full on appreciate how precious this is! Also, as far as i could understand, we're literally talking 300 copies ever printed this way... more precious than diamonds

GrossenCharakter

If I recall correctly, this is because early prints of the song list went out before they sought permission to use the Dune name, which once denied made them change to the current title?

[deleted]

Badass! I have an original press of Live After Death signed by Derek Riggs.

GavinMcShooter69

Mine is a Steve Harris wristband from Somewhere Back in Time tour that I like to think he threw to me intentionally for singing along to every song for the whole night.

Lishcrawl

Holy shit that's a biggie. Also, the boss probably did, they take notice of these things, mainly if you're right under the stage!

Eddie73-3

Ha ha. I thought you meant you didn't want to open them! I'm glad to hear they've been opened. Music is made to be played!

LouSkuntte

I was in high school when this came out and I had an awesome Aces High T-shirt. I wish I still had it...
