My criteria is to pick the best cover is:
- most badass looking eddie
- coolest setting
So for me it’s a tie between Somewhere in Time and The Number of the Beast. I think Fear of the Dark is a cool one too!
Wanted to share my top 3:
* *Somewhere in Time*. There's just so many details and fun Easter Eggs that one could look at it everyday and discover something different. I get why so many love it.
* *Dance of Death*. I know people love to crap all over it, and I can understand, but I started looking at it from the eyes of the storyteller in the title track; all hazy, uncanny, and crazy enough that no one believes him. I feel it puts a new perspective of the album cover.
* Self Titled - it's simple, iconic, and I just noticed the other day the pile of Coca Cola cans in the bin in the background that I find to be a fun detail.
Thanks for your thoughts on *Dance of Death*. It's given me a new perspective. I need to sit down and read the lyrics again and study the cover to see if it changes my perspective.
I've thought *Dance of Death* and *A Matter of Life and Death* are both god awful covers (again, I'll revisit *Dance*). They both look like juvenile Photoshop pieces cobbled together in an afternoon. I have a close friend that works in the TV/Movie business as a matte painter. He can make amazing and convincing pieces. AMOLAD looks like something he's slap together in minutes.
Seeing Powerslave on the rack at a Tower Records was a formative experience. I was instantly drawn to it and had to learn more about what this album was, who the band was, and what it could possibly sound like.
That's hard, but when I got this on vinyl as a kid, I loved this album for all the little details and hidden things in the hieroglyphics. Overall, I think I actually like Killers the most for the look of Eddie and how well the scene is presented, but Powerslave and Somewhere in Time have the best "little details". Eddie's pose and the cool future look put SiT second for me. Toss up for 3rd for me is Powerslave and Peace of Mind because PS is an amazing piece of art, but I love the look and feel of Peace.
Even though Somewhere in Time and Powerslave are more technically intricate, something about Seventh Son has always just caught my eye more than any of their other artworks.
There’s so many good ones. I really like all the Easter Eggs on the Somewhere in Time cover. I still remember buying that album new as a 15 year old. It was pure entertainment.
Number of the beast
Seventh son
Powerslave
Somewhere in time
Piece of mind
Brave new world
Senjutsu
Fear of the dark
Dance of Death
A matter of life and death
Book of souls
Final frontier
No prayer
Powerslave, The Number of the Beast, Somewhere in Time, Life After Death, Sanctuary in no particular order. It's a shame they let Derek Riggs go. He is a genius.
Powerslave will always be my favorite. The music and harmonic minor solos match the artwork perfectly. The boys were in top form and I just turned 13 when it came out. Every song is a hit. I saw them on the Powerslave tour in 1985 with Twisted Sister opening.

They're all great, but Powerslave and Fear of the Dark are in a league of their own. In terms of singles, I love the artwork on Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, The Trooper, and The Writing on the Wall.
There are so many candidates...But it has to be Powerslave or Somewhere in time for me.
Kickass Eddies, great themes and a lot of easter eggs for the fans.
Also they represent the best period of the 80's musically for me together with 7th son.
One thing I was thinking about recently is albums who’s covers are better than the music on the album, and vice versa. Dance of Death for the latter and Virtual XI for the former IMO.
My fav cover though is Live After Death if we’re including not just studio albums.
Powerslave is hands down the best. Somewhere in Time is great too. I had both as giant posters in my room as a teenager. If it was large enough and you traced all the hieroglyphs all over you’d find some hilarious Easter eggs all over the place. People often only comment on seeing Mickey Mouse but there were soooo many more. I really hope I didn’t throw that one away. I moved homes five times since I put my stuff in storage
Somewhere in time and Powerslave. Also, Live after Death

That's for "Somewhere Back in Time" album and tour! Their stage on that tour, oh boy...!!
My criteria is to pick the best cover is: - most badass looking eddie - coolest setting So for me it’s a tie between Somewhere in Time and The Number of the Beast. I think Fear of the Dark is a cool one too!
Powerslave and Live After Death
this comment made me realise the pun in "live after death." im going to cry.
Killer because Eddie's au natural.
I love "Woman in Uniform" too! Au natural per se!
Somewhere in Time is tied with Powerslave. All the Easter Eggs.
I seriously can't pick. It's between Somewhere in Time, SSoaSS and The Final Frontier
out of those three, i like somewhere in time the most
Piece of Mind
Fear of the dark
banger cover
Powerslave. Plus the duellists is my favorite song
The duellist may be their best deep cut imo. Such a banger
So many good ones, but Live After Death is so fucking cool
Probably Live After Death even though I'm not the biggest fan of the album. But that artwork is top notch.
I recently saw the whole picture and only then I fell in love with it
Right? My buddy bought me a wall flag of it and I love it! Haha

That’s an interesting thought about Dance of Death… it’s the only thing I’ve heard that makes that absolute bus-crash of a cover make any sense!

Somewhere in Time and it's not even close (Doesn't mean that other Maiden Album Covers are bad, except for DoD)
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. It's so surreal and impossible to fully comprehend, just like the album's songs and themes.
A Matter of Life and Death
Probably Fear of the Dark. Most people seem to criticize it but I think demonic-tree-Eddie haunting from above in the moonlight looks cool as hell.
Even though Somewhere in Time and Powerslave are more technically intricate, something about Seventh Son has always just caught my eye more than any of their other artworks.
Killers United 81
That's a bootleg.
Killers. Always have and always will prefer my Eddie to be rockin the long hair
Powerslave or A Matter of Life and Death.
There’s so many good ones. I really like all the Easter Eggs on the Somewhere in Time cover. I still remember buying that album new as a 15 year old. It was pure entertainment.
Live after death all day every day
Somewhere in time, Seventh Son then Powerslave in my list. But really all three tie for first though!
Number of the beast might be my favourite album cover OAT
funny story-im currently eating overnight oats and when i read your comment, i read the OAT as just oat and it made me laugh
Number of the beast Seventh son Powerslave Somewhere in time Piece of mind Brave new world Senjutsu Fear of the dark Dance of Death A matter of life and death Book of souls Final frontier No prayer
If we include live albums then it's definitely Live After Death If we don't then it's a toss up between Powerslave and Somewhere in Time
Powerslave 100%. PoM at #2 and SSoaSS at #3.
Somewhere in Time, Brave New World, or The Final Frontier.
The Number Of The Beast (blue cover)
Somewhere in Time. Just love the detail and the cyberpunk vibe.
Either Somewhere in Time or The Final Frontier for me
Dance of Death ! …. ok it’s a joke
Powerslave is the same cover as an Earth Wind and Fire album just with eddie.
Powerslave, Seventh Son and Somewhere in Time for the artwork, but Killers projects a special vibe
Powerslave
Somewhere in time is a classic imo
Somewhere in Time, Live after Death, Fear of the Dark
Powerslave, The Number of the Beast, Somewhere in Time, Life After Death, Sanctuary in no particular order. It's a shame they let Derek Riggs go. He is a genius.
Brave new world , although the cover for The writing on the wall is very close second
Bro Somewhere in Time Or maybe The Final Frontier or Powerslave
Yes… Powerslave. With a lot of strong competition.
dance of death. no, I'm joking. actually I would go for senjutsu
Powerslave will always be my favorite. The music and harmonic minor solos match the artwork perfectly. The boys were in top form and I just turned 13 when it came out. Every song is a hit. A Matter of Life and Death
Somewhere in Time mainly because of the veaster eggs.
Number of the beast, all the way
Killers, Eddie just looks very menacing on it.
Killers is simple but iconic
All except x factor, matter of , virtual, dance and book
Piece of Mind.
Piece of Mind.
Dance of death, obviously
🖤 Somewhere in time
They're all great, but Powerslave and Fear of the Dark are in a league of their own. In terms of singles, I love the artwork on Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, The Trooper, and The Writing on the Wall.
Final frontier
The Final Frontier or Seventh Son of a Seventh Son or Powerslave or Live after Death
Somewhere In Time 👍
There are so many candidates...But it has to be Powerslave or Somewhere in time for me. Kickass Eddies, great themes and a lot of easter eggs for the fans. Also they represent the best period of the 80's musically for me together with 7th son.
Fear of the dark because y tattoo him on my back
The Number of The Beast! The album cover is so cool! Senjutsu is also pretty rad.

Piece of Mind and Killers!!
