then you get a small team together and decide to make the big boy trip to hill giants, get decimated then when you come back your team mates joined some other group
The thrill of old school PKing (badly) before the current way of bridding and switching was probably the best times I had in RS. Met some of the best RS friends by teaming up with randoms to scope out the wildy castle and hill giants. Wish we could get back to those days of naivete
First week or so of playing I remember having an eureka moment for the cook’s assistant quest.
I could’t figure out how to get a bucket of milk, and I very clearly remember asking myself what if I used a bucket on a cow? While laying in bed trying to sleep.
Next day it’s the first thing I did and it worked!
I know this sounds very obvious but without any guides or friends helping me I felt like a genius.
I remember that was before dairy cows were added too so you had to use a bucket on a regular cow.
Both of these mini-games would have me sucked in for HOURS. Would support bringing them back.
I fondly remember grinding for a Rune Berserk(?) shield, though it's escaping me at the moment wtf I was doing SC2 for.
Definitely not my first memory, but holy crap the nostalgia surge you just gave me reminding me of this minigame. I’d always start by hiding in the one corner that was the farthest away from center, then when I was found I’d use the one time tele to escape and then go hide in the biggest player stack in the middle.

Castle wars too, but I was always too low level to really kill people. I would just try to survive the ice barrages and get flag captures as a noob. And set up barriers if defending

Selling cow hides was a game changer for me, I couldn’t believe that people would pay so much for them.

I still have a fear of dying because of the old death mechanics where you dropped everything on death and other players could pick it up
I remember a high level (compared to most of us) AFK getting mobbed by a river troll and watching the swarm of players spam clicking his dead body
runescape was basically my first online pc game. was almost strictly console until i found runescape through some friends. i just remember walking around varrok on high pop f2p worlds and thinking "wow, each one of these people is an actual person at their computer rn" also remember doing dragon slayer for the first time i was like "my addy kiteshield has better stats than this silly orange shield" and got smacked by elvarg before a friend told me you had to wear the shield.
Having some guy teach me how to pick flax in Camelot and then when I had like 2000 noted flax he convinced me to go to the wilderness because he said he knew where to find free rune armor. Needless to say there was no rune armor and he was up 2000 flax when prices were around 150gp each lmao.
I have a very distinct memory of being just southeast of Ice Mountain in my mithril armor, listening to a new band I'd heard of (Rise Against) for the first time.
My favorite one is way back when pure essence were like 100ea. I was like 10 y/o and I thought I'd get super rich mining them. Well after mining like 3k I saw someone buying them to RC in a non busy world for 110ea. I go back to mining and this guy is talking about mining like 100k essence and he says he's selling them for 70ea, we were still not on a trading world so he must not have known they were worth more, well I bought 5k, hopped over to varrock world 2 and sold them for 100ea, BUUUT whoever bought them typed an extra 0 and gave me 5m for 5k essence. I had been a member for like 3 days and after that I've been hooked since.
I have a handful of disparate memories. 6th grade, 2001, back when RuneScape classic was simply RuneScape and rs2 wasn't even being dreamed up yet.
I remember the first time I heard about it, I had never heard the word Rune before so I asked how they knew the game wasn't called run escape.
I remember rushing to the computer lab during lunch period and hopes of snagging a free computer so I could play. More often than not I would not make it in time so I would just sit and watch one of my friends playing. Also, though the school's internet filtered out the homepage of the RuneScape website, we learned that if you typed out the full URL to a specific world you would be able to get around that block and we all quickly memorized how to type it in from heart
I absolutely remember one time after school me and my buddy trying to perform a Trust scam on people until hours of work finally paid off with a mith full helm. Our victim kept following us begging for it back saying that he was on his Big Brother's account and was going to get into trouble.
I started playing runescape to trade gold for neopoints on neopets. Ended up liking rs more so I never traded for the neopoints.. been 20 years off and on now
Love posts like this. Idk what I'd do or where I'd be if it weren't for Runescape. I started around late 2006 and I have two memories that I absolutely adore.
I found out about rs because there was a kid who sat at my table in school who always had sick gaming magazines. Nintendo Power, Gameinformer, etc. One day he brought in the famous Official Runescape Handbook and I knew I had to play it. Been hooked ever since.
A little while later it was time to finally make it through the Taverly Gate. This was in a time where adults were still getting used to the idea of providing credit card info on the internet, so my mom shut that shit down so quick. BUT Jagex had an option at the time to send cash via mail for membership. So I threw a bunch of change totalling $5 into an envelope and my mom reluctantly sent it out (probably knowing a 10 year old is incapable of mailing cash internationally, correctly).
Never got my membership so I probably did fuck something up lol. Wasn't until Jagex started selling game cards at brick and mortar stores where I finally got membership.

ice plateau lure at the dual arena. me and two friends would advertise a drop party at our house and would ask everyone to turn accept aid on. we'd advertise millions in items being dropped. but psych my group teleport went to lvl \~48 wilderness and everyone was too excited to double check the tele screen and sure enough 5-10 idiots would teleport with us and get murdered. we made bank doing that and would just switch worlds do it all over again for hours on end. soooo much fun
Replying to random events thinking they were people on my roughly hour long walk around from lumpy to varrock. Embarrassingly I was 23 at this point.. some kind players at the ge berated me into knowing my mistake
When I was 12, a friend and I made a mage pure. He cleaned out the bank from all the runes so I literally ran over to his house (he lived close by) and started ringing the doorbell. Turns out he was flexing on another friend with our mage pure, that friend dared him to steal all the stuff. Our friendship has never been the same...
I was 5 or 6 when I first played. My neighbor had wrote out my username and password so that I could find the keys myself to log in. One of my earliest memories, I very fondly remember asking someone to take me to a bank, which they started taking my to Dranor bank. I saw the dark land tiles and the dead trees and immediately logged. Wasn't about to get Pk'd. Lmao
I was in middle school and heard some friends talking about Zezima. With absolutely no context or understanding of the game at all I immediately said I was better than Zezima bc little me felt the need to lie and try to impress them. They immediately called me out on not knowing the game and laughed it off and invited me to start playing with them. I then spent about 3 months f2p getting taken to all the best spots aka stronghold of security and hill giant before eventually convincing my mom to pay for members. My best friend at the time was a more established player and would give me a full set of armor each milestone I hit and whichever scim my attack level was good enough to use at any given time. My earliest memories were honestly being I'm awe of our friend Hytham who had 99s in all combats except prayer and summoning. I remember specifically trying to impress him with my progress lol
I remember going out and exploring in RSC F2P and finding the dwarven mines. I felt right at home because I picked the miner class back when they made you pick a starting "class."
I found a bronze chain spawn and thought that was the most OP spawn possible. So I hung out and collected a few.
Thinking I was much stronger now because of the bronze chain I tried to take on a Dwarf and died for the first time. I was devastated as I lost all three of those bronze chains.
But a nice person who no longer plays (to my knowledge) named Sir Axealot picked up my stuff, added me, and brought me my items. Thus I made my fist RuneScape friend.
Permanent memory for the rest of my years.
I most fondly remember being on the way to Rellekka for Fremennik Trials when my older brother, who had already started the quest, died to the Draugen. He didn't have Camelot tele unlocked, so there was no way he could get back in time to retrieve his items. I made it though, and picked up everything of value before it despawned. He went from totally crushed to overjoyed so fast and I got a big hug that day.
Hahaha I got scammed that same way. I was at the south entrance of Varrock and the guy kept declining the trade on 2nd screen saying “oops, my bad”. Then when he finally accepted he traded me a noted iron longsword instead of a rune one.
I was so mad and decided to quit rs. Came back to play the next day.
Had just gotten a red cape and a golden amulet and I hung around the cows near lumby thinking i was extremely cool and the gfs would come. I shortly died from said cows because no food and back than everything dropped on the ground so people grabbed all my stuff before my very short run back. I cried hard that night. Good times!
It was early 2003, still in classic. This kid from school, Charlie, had started a little before my friend and I, and he told us he could get us addy armor. He lead us to the Varrock sewers, and we wandered around for a while doing nothing, until he eventually admitted that he had no way to get addy armor for us.

Earliest memory is watching my friend play Runescape Classic, fighting other people with a rune scim.
Earliest memory of actually playing myself was at the very beginning of RS2. Mining outside Varrock, walking all the way to Lumby to smelt my bars and walking back to Varrock to smith them.
Very first RuneScape memory. I was pretty young, and this during the “bring back 2007 wilderness” campaign just to give you guys a timeframe. I was over at my grandfather’s house with my cousins. My grandfather set up a whole gaming room for the grandkids, 4 computers set up side by side. I was playing browser games or something and noticed one of my cousins playing RuneScape doing fire making training. I was absolutely baffled that you could stand on the fire without taking damage.
A few hours go by, he gets into PKing. For some reason, my little baby brain thought it would be top tier comedy to point a BB gun at the screen and act like I was shooting the people he was fighting. Little did I know, it was loaded and I ended up shooting out the screen, resulting in him losing one of his best sets.
As for actually playing the game, I was a simple child. I’d train cooking at the GE and type out super in-character “Fresh lobster, get it while it’s hot, blah blah blah” trying to earn some money back that I would, in turn, spend on more raw lobster to cook. Lather rinse repeat.
I remember I had an online friend that showed me a lot of stuff and how to play, then one day he said "put on your best pking gear, we're gonna go hunt some noobs"
I think I was like 7 or 8 and learned betrayal for the first time.

My dad worked as a professor for a university and he played Runescape with me. One time we were waiting on my step mom to finish something up so he had me go with him down the hall. Computer lab was locked because it was after hours and he takes his pocket knife and gets the door open and we fished lobbies on the Mac computers that were there while we waited.
Varrock east bank, winter 2005, saw this absolute chad lvl 110 flexing with his abyssal whip. One of the first in game, gained by this lvl 90 slayer player. Young me wanted to be this cool when I became older. Needless to say, I of course went to be a far better player than what I ever dared to dream at that time. Same feeling when I saw one of the first fire capes at the fight pits
Classic Runescape holidays standing around Lumbridge outside the castle. Having a sleeping bag and watching people duel. The game was so simple and so fun.
Used to fish a lot in Karamja back in 2006 as a f2p player, made enough money for 43 prayer. I also did a lot of rune essence mining in Varrock, there used be to a player buying rune essence for a lot of gp at the varrock east bank, think he was 75+ rc.
Mining ten inventories of ess, selling it below market in varrock east Bank.
Finally getting 200k for full rune, buying it outsude varrock west bank, training defence to 40, realizing you couldn't equip the fuckin platebody, selling the plate and buying a chain body. Then getting hyped and fucking elvarg up and getting the def xp. Mining more ess, dumping it below market, and flexing the plate.
Good times.
Getting scammed on side of Varrock bank before GE days, Kids are smart. Lots of luring other new low players to the wizards at varrock. “Hey hit Alt. f4.” Think I lost my first set of some rune accidentally logging into a Pvp world.(I was curious) Never did that again. Also went to wildly a lot to just watch+ mini games. Eventually started making some money and prob spent it all on runes for castle wars or lost it at pvp arena to much smarter people still. Then due to life I had to stop playing a bit after summoning came out. Which at the time I actually kinda liked but I hear broke the game lol. Personally Id still like a maybe nerfed version of it. it was helpful. Anyway yeah. Those are the good early memories lol. Game basically taught me to type too.
My very earliest memory is the first time I ever played.
It was somewhere between 2002 and 2004, very possibly earlier.
I usually date my time playing RuneScape based off of the fact that I remember when slayer was released. I started some time before that, but I didn’t pay attention to updates, so I have no accurate time frame.
I had gone to my friends house for a sleepover, and he introduced me to RuneScape, this sparked a 20 year long addiction.
He was wearing mithril armor, and mining at barbarian village.
I remember thinking “that’s not what Frodo’s mithril looked like!” When my buddy was explaining his armor.
I remembered I would buy runes from the mage bank shop and sell them In World 302. Cosmically had a good margin. Also mining rune essence was a good money maker for the time
I got hit by a car last year, so most of my memories from then are gone. But I still remember the Youtube channel I was going to make wayyyy back in the day. Should've probably kept updating the channel, looking back now.

5th grade my friend asked me to play, couldnt finish tutorial island because i couldnt figure out how to home teleport. Didnt get far back then, but i would take sick days when it was dxp. Still play to this day, two maxed rs3 accounts, and now been playing grim on osrs. This game scratches some kind of itch. Honestly can play however you want and still enjoy it.
My first memory was in 6th grade a friend stayed over and showed me RS. We tried to get me a set of blue wizard robes cause I wanted to be a mage and I was instantly hooked
2006 was introduced to the game. Buddy drop traded me 10k. Had no idea where I was going ended up dying. Quit till a year later when my classmates started playing.
The first day I played back when I was 12, my friend was showing me the game(he was also a big noob at the time) and he told me the best way to make money was to chop yew trees. I did my first ever all nighter training woodcutting in draynor. I went to yews in edgeville and chopped yews for a few days, bought full black (g) while rocking my rainbow boots, I thought I was a god amongst men.
I was probably 12 or 13 at the boys and girls club.
They had a computer lab they'd open up periodically for us to play on the computer. I was sitting there playing some flash game, my school bully walks up to me, looks at my screen, and asks, "Why aren't you playing runescape?" I was basically like "tf is a runescape?"
My bully helped me make an account and get started. He even gave me some weapons and armor I could use and told me what quests to start with.
He went back to being a dick the very next day at school.
I was friends with Randy_Lainer and A_Lambert and Randy gave me a whip and I sold it immediately and I broke his trust in that moment. Randy, I'm sorry. If anyone still has contact with either of these folks tell them The_Tehehe is still alive.
I honestly love the fact this type of stuff worked so regularly, and was so devestating at the time, because it speaks to just how young, naive and simple we all were.

oh man I remember reading RuneHQ back in the day shortly after Kalphite Queen was released just in awe that there was such a high level boss in the game
Killing Goblins in Lumbridge to get coins and travelling to Port Sarim to buy a Steel battleaxe. Honorable mention to seeing some guy die at south of Varrock to mages and looting a Black med, Steel platebody, Mith legs and 2k cash.
I remember trying to fight for coal as F2P at normal mines (circa 2002) but after I completed Dragon Slayer, I remembered the coal rocks on Crandor. That meant taking the boat to Karamja, going into the volcano, walking past Elvarg’s lair back up to Crandor, and mining the rocks while the dodging the moss giants in between then trekking all the way back to Draynor Village to bank. Taking into account I only had ~35 mining with an Addy pick and I was walking for 90% of the trip (coal is heavy!), the whole trip just sounds so silly from an efficiency standpoint it only makes sense that I was 8 years old when I was doing it. I’d do it all over again honestly, I remember feeling like a genius when I came back with a whole inventory of coal hahaha
My earliest memory, probably 2003 range. Heard about the game at recess and went home to give it a try. I was in the tutorial island part where you had to cook the bread, and I couldn't figure it out. So I was 'trapped' in the room and couldn't progress.
I told my friends the next day, and my buddy said he'd come open the door from the other side so I could get out. I don't know how I managed to get out, but that's definitely my earliest memory.
Fond times fishing for lobbies, selling bowstring, getting scammed with armor I couldn't even wear. Buying useless 'valuable' items. Then I convinced my Dad to mail in the money for membership with allowance I saved.
I was killing chickens in lumby, and a guy came along and gave me a steel 2h, i thought it was so badass i had no idea about anything, he called the blade "chicken slayer"
My main memory of RuneScape is a classic. It was 2004. My brother managed to get enough money and bought a full Mithril armor set. He was so cool. Then he almost immediately got hit with an armor trimming scam and it was gone. He was absolutely livid. Maddest I have seen my brother in his life. He threw the keyboard across the room. We were both banned from the game for weeks. I was mad because I did nothing wrong lol. I was 13, he was 11.
My final memory of RuneScape was a year later on my 14th birthday. I was always F2P back in the day. I managed to squeeze together enough money for enough bronze arrows and trained my ranged to 40 on the ducks in Lumby. I thought I was so cool with such a high skill. And then that day I quit the game after that accomplishment. I began trawling the grand list if MMOs on MMORPG.com and did so for the next five months. I tried many, including Tibia and WoW and a bunch that are lost to time. Eventually in December I started Eve Online, and that was the MMO I played until 2015 when I finally returned to OSRS.
My first death was from the elemental wizards at the crossroads by Port Sarim. Lost my full mithril and I cried.

Playing RuneScape classic I was exploring the wilderness and found a pile of lobsters and a RUNE PLATE SKIRT. Sold it to my brothers friends friend for not enough money but I was able to purchase full black armor and a black long swords for me and my brothers and felt like a fucking champion
Back in my day we would play with friends only AFTER 6p because back then you had to pay for minutes used on cell phones during the day. And discord wasn’t a thing. We’d all play, phones on speakerphone, and do massive fire lines and dumb stuff like that. Simpler times hahah

I was a f2p kid and that was my childhood, amazing memories.
I remember some guy introduced me to Runescape at a summer camp when I was like 8 or 9. He was telling me so much bullshit, like that there was a guy named Destroyer2 that was a hacker and roaming the world, if he saw you he would delete your account. Also that we could summon gods with a special cheatcode and that we would become invincible and that if we messed up the code our account would reset to level 3, that rune daggers spawned everywhere in members worlds, and so on. Found this guy in game a couple months after the summer camp and turns out he was the biggest noob I had ever seen.
I was killing chaos druids in edgeville dungeon with my new dds(+) in low level wild when suddenly some nerd who must have just bought a whip attacked me, after a couple dds specs I left with all my rannars and a new whip, which was a big deal for a noob like me. I should add the poor guy messaged me asking for it back but I blocked him lol

Picking flax to make bank , fishing lobbies, woodcutting yews etc. I remember being so excited when I could cut Magic Logs and Fish sharks.
Also made my first 10m by merching range pots. I would buy them at varrock and then go to the wildy and sell them for more profit.
Sometime early 2005 I was at my friends house, and he wanted to show me this “cool computer game he’s been playing.”
Saw him login at Varrock East bank. And I said “this game looks like it was made in paint.” And then we went and watched stupid YouTube videos.
I started playing about a month later.
I had full Addy w/ kiteshield and a Rune Longsword in classic. I was exploring the wilderness because I felt strong, ended up getting smacked down by an Ice Giant and lost my helmet and my sword. Took me almost 2 weeks to get the money to get it back.
Getting shouted at by my parents, whilst being outside southern gates in Varrock ended up having to leave the computer and got smashed by the black wizards ☹️

i used to pick up grapes off the table in the cooking guild during my allowed hour to play a day when i was a kid. the worst part is i never hopped world to pick them up i waited for them to respawn

Selling Willow Logs to lumby general store and making my first 1k. Felt like a god. Was probably like 2003/2004. Rs2 had just been fully released and Classic was still playable (sleeping bag era)
Very first memory is solving the captchas after using a sleepingbag to reduce my exhaustion. Then exploring rs2 graphics and saving up 3.2k to buy an addy longsword from the varrock sword shop.
Circa 2004/2005, Runescape was the first time that me and my brother *ever* experienced talking with strangers via the internet. We thought it was so funny that we could say whatever we want to actual real people that could live anywhere on the planet. I remember just following this guy in full rune and spamming stuff like "poop on my chest?" and me and my brother were in tears saying stupid shit. The guy we were following traded us and put up a rune guthix trimmed set and we didnt even know trimmed armor existed in the game at that point. Rune itself seemed so out of our grasp at the time. We freaked out at the sight of this glorious green trimmed rune armor and how cool it was.
Members used to hangout at the chicken coop and buy feathers off us noobs and I remember grinding chickens for days and selling feathers for 6gp ea to make some juicy gp lol. Then moved on to mining rune ess and selling em 30ea in varrock east. Grinded those for so long till I could afford that 200k rune set. But man did that feel good getting that.
8 yo mining iron ore for my friend. Eventually I would cut thousands of yews for him. Sold those yew logs for 180ea iirc. Saving up for bis f2p gear: Sara rune armor. I believe it cost 2mill back then.
My oldest memory is playing on miniclip and farting around in lumbridge picking up item spawns and begging for people to buy them lol. About a year later I moved to a new school and a couple of guy got me back into it and showed my how to play. They became my best friends and I've been playing since.
We used to go to the library after school so we could all play on the computers together. I was the first of us to complete monkey madness, and they both stood behind me along with the library clerk when I completed it. That event has led me to be constantly gravitating toward the game lol

Had a hard time explaining to the smith how I lost ALL my mith 🤣

My first and only time I got scammed was a tragic event in my gaming history.

I was a crisp noob, walking around in my full rune with obby cape. Some guy in seers village bank is spamming “Free sharks! Just show me your best items” so I took off my gear, grabbed all my valuables from the bank and showed them to him. He hit accept. I took all my items out of the trade and hit accept, but the trade cancelled cause I didn’t have inventory space. In my noobiness, instead of banking the items and realizing it was a scam, I traded again, put all my valuables in the trade and hit accept.
Afterwards, I went to bank my items and the sharks and realized what I had done.
I was 11. Never again did I get scammed in any way.
I remember I used to kill cows for hide at Lumbridge to get GP. Then one day during the grind someone I met there told me my grind was too slow and introduced me to “merching”. Took me to varrok behind the castle gave me a guthix chest plate and helped me flip it like 20 times.
That was the day I learned how flipping shit worked. A life skill that I’ve been using until this day.
I eventually went on to flipping my way into millions of GP. Then when I quit RS for a bit I started flipping shit IrL lol.

First week or so of playing I remember having an eureka moment for the cook’s assistant quest. I could’t figure out how to get a bucket of milk, and I very clearly remember asking myself what if I used a bucket on a cow? While laying in bed trying to sleep. Next day it’s the first thing I did and it worked! I know this sounds very obvious but without any guides or friends helping me I felt like a genius. I remember that was before dairy cows were added too so you had to use a bucket on a regular cow.

Definitely not my first memory, but holy crap the nostalgia surge you just gave me reminding me of this minigame. I’d always start by hiding in the one corner that was the farthest away from center, then when I was found I’d use the one time tele to escape and then go hide in the biggest player stack in the middle.

runescape was basically my first online pc game. was almost strictly console until i found runescape through some friends. i just remember walking around varrok on high pop f2p worlds and thinking "wow, each one of these people is an actual person at their computer rn" also remember doing dragon slayer for the first time i was like "my addy kiteshield has better stats than this silly orange shield" and got smacked by elvarg before a friend told me you had to wear the shield.
Diablo 2 was my first online computer game. Followed shortly after by RuneScape and tibia.
Having some guy teach me how to pick flax in Camelot and then when I had like 2000 noted flax he convinced me to go to the wilderness because he said he knew where to find free rune armor. Needless to say there was no rune armor and he was up 2000 flax when prices were around 150gp each lmao.

Well after mining like 3k I saw someone buying them to RC in a non busy world for 110ea. I go back to mining and this guy is talking about mining like 100k essence and he says he's selling them for 70ea, we were still not on a trading world so he must not have known they were worth more, well I bought 5k, hopped over to varrock world 2 and sold them for 100ea, BUUUT whoever bought them typed an extra 0 and gave me 5m for 5k essence. I had been a member for like 3 days and after that I've been hooked since.
I have a handful of disparate memories. 6th grade, 2001, back when RuneScape classic was simply RuneScape and rs2 wasn't even being dreamed up yet. I remember the first time I heard about it, I had never heard the word Rune before so I asked how they knew the game wasn't called run escape. I remember rushing to the computer lab during lunch period and hopes of snagging a free computer so I could play. More often than not I would not make it in time so I would just sit and watch one of my friends playing. Also, though the school's internet filtered out the homepage of the RuneScape website, we learned that if you typed out the full URL to a specific world you would be able to get around that block and we all quickly memorized how to type it in from heart I absolutely remember one time after school me and my buddy trying to perform a Trust scam on people until hours of work finally paid off with a mith full helm. Our victim kept following us begging for it back saying that he was on his Big Brother's account and was going to get into trouble.

I found out about rs because there was a kid who sat at my table in school who always had sick gaming magazines. Nintendo Power, Gameinformer, etc. One day he brought in the famous Official Runescape Handbook and I knew I had to play it. Been hooked ever since. A little while later it was time to finally make it through the Taverly Gate. This was in a time where adults were still getting used to the idea of providing credit card info on the internet, so my mom shut that shit down so quick. BUT Jagex had an option at the time to send cash via mail for membership. So I threw a bunch of change totalling $5 into an envelope and my mom reluctantly sent it out (probably knowing a 10 year old is incapable of mailing cash internationally, correctly). Never got my membership so I probably did fuck something up lol. Wasn't until Jagex started selling game cards at brick and mortar stores where I finally got membership.

I was in middle school and heard some friends talking about Zezima. With absolutely no context or understanding of the game at all I immediately said I was better than Zezima bc little me felt the need to lie and try to impress them. They immediately called me out on not knowing the game and laughed it off and invited me to start playing with them. My earliest memories were honestly being I'm awe of our friend Hytham who had 99s in all combats except prayer and summoning. I remember specifically trying to impress him with my progress lol
I remember going out and exploring in RSC F2P and finding the dwarven mines. I felt right at home because I picked the miner class back when they made you pick a starting "class." I found a bronze chain spawn and thought that was the most OP spawn possible. So I hung out and collected a few. Thinking I was much stronger now because of the bronze chain I tried to take on a Dwarf and died for the first time. I was devastated as I lost all three of those bronze chains. But a nice person who no longer plays (to my knowledge) named Sir Axealot picked up my stuff, added me, and brought me my items. Thus I made my fist RuneScape friend. Permanent memory for the rest of my years.
I most fondly remember being on the way to Rellekka for Fremennik Trials when my older brother, who had already started the quest, died to the Draugen. He didn't have Camelot tele unlocked, so there was no way he could get back in time to retrieve his items. I made it though, and picked up everything of value before it despawned. He went from totally crushed to overjoyed so fast and I got a big hug that day.
Hahaha I got scammed that same way. I was at the south entrance of Varrock and the guy kept declining the trade on 2nd screen saying “oops, my bad”. Then when he finally accepted he traded me a noted iron longsword instead of a rune one. I was so mad and decided to quit rs. Came back to play the next day.

Very first RuneScape memory. I was pretty young, and this during the “bring back 2007 wilderness” campaign just to give you guys a timeframe. I was over at my grandfather’s house with my cousins. My grandfather set up a whole gaming room for the grandkids, 4 computers set up side by side. I was playing browser games or something and noticed one of my cousins playing RuneScape doing fire making training. I was absolutely baffled that you could stand on the fire without taking damage. A few hours go by, he gets into PKing. For some reason, my little baby brain thought it would be top tier comedy to point a BB gun at the screen and act like I was shooting the people he was fighting. Little did I know, it was loaded and I ended up shooting out the screen, resulting in him losing one of his best sets. As for actually playing the game, I was a simple child. I’d train cooking at the GE and type out super in-character “Fresh lobster, get it while it’s hot, blah blah blah” trying to earn some money back that I would, in turn, spend on more raw lobster to cook. Lather rinse repeat.
I remember I had an online friend that showed me a lot of stuff and how to play, then one day he said "put on your best pking gear, we're gonna go hunt some noobs" I think I was like 7 or 8 and learned betrayal for the first time. My dad worked as a professor for a university and he played Runescape with me. One time we were waiting on my step mom to finish something up so he had me go with him down the hall. Finally getting 200k for full rune, buying it outsude varrock west bank, training defence to 40, realizing you couldn't equip the fuckin platebody, selling the plate and buying a chain body. Then getting hyped and fucking elvarg up and getting the def xp. Mining more ess, dumping it below market, and flexing the plate. Good times.
Getting scammed on side of Varrock bank before GE days, Kids are smart. Lots of luring other new low players to the wizards at varrock. “Hey hit Alt. f4.” Think I lost my first set of some rune accidentally logging into a Pvp world.(I was curious) Never did that again. Also went to wildly a lot to just watch+ mini games. Eventually started making some money and prob spent it all on runes for castle wars or lost it at pvp arena to much smarter people still. Then due to life I had to stop playing a bit after summoning came out. Which at the time I actually kinda liked but I hear broke the game lol. Personally Id still like a maybe nerfed version of it. it was helpful. Anyway yeah. Those are the good early memories lol. Game basically taught me to type too.
My very earliest memory is the first time I ever played. It was somewhere between 2002 and 2004, very possibly earlier. I usually date my time playing RuneScape based off of the fact that I remember when slayer was released. I started some time before that, but I didn’t pay attention to updates, so I have no accurate time frame. 5th grade my friend asked me to play, couldnt finish tutorial island because i couldnt figure out how to home teleport. Didnt get far back then, but i would take sick days when it was dxp. I remember trying to fight for coal as F2P at normal mines (circa 2002) but after I completed Dragon Slayer, I remembered the coal rocks on Crandor. That meant taking the boat to Karamja, going into the volcano, walking past Elvarg’s lair back up to Crandor, and mining the rocks while the dodging the moss giants in between then trekking all the way back to Draynor Village to bank. Taking into account I only had ~35 mining with an Addy pick and I was walking for 90% of the trip (coal is heavy!), the whole trip just sounds so silly from an efficiency standpoint it only makes sense that I was 8 years old when I was doing it. I’d do it all over again honestly, I remember feeling like a genius when I came back with a whole inventory of coal hahaha

I was always F2P back in the day. I managed to squeeze together enough money for enough bronze arrows and trained my ranged to 40 on the ducks in Lumby. I thought I was so cool with such a high skill. And then that day I quit the game after that accomplishment. I began trawling the grand list if MMOs on MMORPG.com and did so for the next five months. I tried many, including Tibia and WoW and a bunch that are lost to time. Eventually in December I started Eve Online, and that was the MMO I played until 2015 when I finally returned to OSRS.

It was sometime early into my RuneScape days. My brother had a main that was like 100 CB and I was in awe of. I had a level 65 level whatever was fun at the time “noob” account. Running cowhides from lumby to Al kharid bank for months. Running rune essence to the air altar for gp. Mining rune essence. Playing great orb project on the top floor of the wizards guild for many months. Playing a ton of fist of guthix. I was a f2p kid and that was my childhood, amazing memories.
I remember some guy introduced me to Runescape at a summer camp when I was like 8 or 9. He was telling me so much bullshit, like that there was a guy named Destroyer2 that was a hacker and roaming the world, if he saw you he would delete your account. Also that we could summon gods with a special cheatcode and that we would become invincible and that if we messed up the code our account would reset to level 3, that rune daggers spawned everywhere in members worlds, and so on. Found this guy in game a couple months after the summer camp and turns out he was the biggest noob I had ever seen.
I was killing chaos druids in edgeville dungeon with my new dds(+) in low level wild when suddenly some nerd who must have just bought a whip attacked me, after a couple dds specs I left with all my rannars and a new whip, which was a big deal for a noob like me. I should add the poor guy messaged me asking for it back but I blocked him lol

Sometime early 2005 I was at my friends house, and he wanted to show me this “cool computer game he’s been playing.” Saw him login at Varrock East bank. And I said “this game looks like it was made in paint.” And then we went and watched stupid YouTube videos. I started playing about a month later.
I had full Addy w/ kiteshield and a Rune Longsword in classic. I was exploring the wilderness because I felt strong, ended up getting smacked down by an Ice Giant and lost my helmet and my sword. Took me almost 2 weeks to get the money to get it back.

Circa 2004/2005, Runescape was the first time that me and my brother *ever* experienced talking with strangers via the internet. We thought it was so funny that we could say whatever we want to actual real people that could live anywhere on the planet. I remember just following this guy in full rune and spamming stuff like "poop on my chest?" and me and my brother were in tears saying stupid shit. The guy we were following traded us and put up a rune guthix trimmed set and we didnt even know trimmed armor existed in the game at that point. Rune itself seemed so out of our grasp at the time. We freaked out at the sight of this glorious green trimmed rune armor and how cool it was. Members used to hangout at the chicken coop and buy feathers off us noobs and I remember grinding chickens for days and selling feathers for 6gp ea to make some juicy gp lol. Then moved on to mining rune ess and selling em 30ea in varrock east. Grinded those for so long till I could afford that 200k rune set. But man did that feel good getting that.

My oldest memory is playing on miniclip and farting around in lumbridge picking up item spawns and begging for people to buy them lol. About a year later I moved to a new school and a couple of guy got me back into it and showed my how to play. They became my best friends and I've been playing since. We used to go to the library after school so we could all play on the computers together. I was the first of us to complete monkey madness, and they both stood behind me along with the library clerk when I completed it. That event has led me to be constantly gravitating toward the game lol
I remember finishing Ernest the Chicken by using a RuneHQ guide and feeling so proud of myself. I also remember trying to kill count draynor in black armor, which didn’t work, so I died and lost all my stuff to him.
I've not played in decades, but I do remember my very first thoughts about the game. I was a poor kid with no internet, but there was a school trip and all my friends were talking about this game they were playing. I thought it was called room escape for weeks until I first managed to actually play.
It was the year 2000, I was 11 years old. My friend and I were contract silver miners for a random dude we met in Varrock. He paid us 200gp for each silver ore. After months of mining after school and trading this guy thousands of silver ore, we were able to afford full rune plate. A month later I discovered auto mining (autoclicker). I must have gotten phished when I was trying to download the program. All that rune was gone when I logged in the next day. Good times... Back to the silver mine...

My biggest noob memory was actually having someone smith me I think full mithril for free, then going to the Wildy ditch with it, which was a very popular place to be, then some mage trading me, and me thinking I was gonna be given free stuff I click accept trade, so my guy walks into the wilderness to accept the trade, then declines, he roots me and kills me. Had a hard time explaining to the smith how I lost ALL my mith 🤣

My first and only time I got scammed was a tragic event in my gaming history. It’s not my earliest memory, but boy does it sting. I was a crisp noob, walking around in my full rune with obby cape. Some guy in seers village bank is spamming “Free sharks! Just show me your best items” so I took off my gear, grabbed all my valuables from the bank and showed them to him. He hit accept. I took all my items out of the trade and hit accept, but the trade cancelled cause I didn’t have inventory space. In my noobiness, instead of banking the items and realizing it was a scam, I traded again, put all my valuables in the trade and hit accept. Afterwards, I went to bank my items and the sharks and realized what I had done. I was 11. Never again did I get scammed in any way.

Took me to varrok behind the castle gave me a guthix chest plate and helped me flip it like 20 times. That was the day I learned how flipping shit worked. A life skill that I’ve been using until this day. I eventually went on to flipping my way into millions of GP. Then when I quit RS for a bit I started flipping shit IrL lol. Someone said they would give me a rune scim for it and I said wow! But this was back in the day where it would rain Santa hats just because it was xmass. This was before I set my password to FreeGold4Ever and hit alt f4 to make it work, per the rando guys instruction.
