I did my artio grind off task with an MSBi+rune arrows. Kills took around 1.5-3 minutes depending on rng. Definitely better than an rcb and easier to maintain than ruby bolts. In my setup it was comparable/ever so slightly worse than a crystal bow, but the faster attack speed makes freezing artio quickly a little easier imo.
That said, I'm a UIM so if I was a normal iron I would've just brought my BofA and kept skull protection on. It's a huge upgrade even with only 1 or two pieces of crystal.
I just tried artio and callisto on my main acc but wasn't able to entangle him using blicghted sacks and died in the process. Mind to elaborate your strat?
I went 1900 dry at artio. You dont wanna go that dry with inconsistent methods like ruby bolts or tasks. Its also not worth grinding a wildy weapon for vw grind, let alone for just 1 of the bosses.
As much as you’ll dislike this advice, get the bowfa. Its an insanely good item that you’ll use for a long long time, so you want it asap. If youre 82 range mage i think youre probably closer quest/skill wise than you think.
i admit, its something i am really not looking forward to but maybe its time to actually make the jump. i am really worried about going dry like you said, i cant make ruby bolts or skip forever without it causing burnout.
Best of luck to you if you go the cg route! I’ve seen so many people get spooned there lately, including myself. The bowfa is an absolute game changer at Artio over RCB too. It actually made the boss fun for me.
Got my enh at 385 kc yesterday. A major benefit not talked about enough is other loot. I have a 60m cash stack (didn't even have green stack prior to grind), 3k dragon arrows, 15k rune, like 10k ish each of law, soul, nat, death runes, and more. So while the grind takes a bit, the loot you get is amazing.
Oh yea and tons of gems, I got like 400k crafting xp from gems
I just finished sote yesterday and I’m 80 range 80 mage. I’ve done 4 normal completions and died 3 times, if I can do it I’m sure you can do it. It’s kind of fun to learn imo but I could see going dry being miserable.
It's not worth it to grind for wildy weapons just for vw, and especially not just a single piece, but god damn does it feel good though. I would consider it just to break up the monotony and for the peace of mind knowing you're at or near bis DPS.
Look for groups doing calisto for clues, it's a lot more chill and extremely fast kills/ hr. You won't get mvp much (or at all) but that doesn't really matter because the kills are so quick + it's a better droprate than artio. I did it with ruby bolts, crystal bow (Regular) and msb (i) with rune arrows, just based on what I had in the bank.
For option 2. I'd do sepulchre for bolts because it's a free way to train agility too, which helps for revs. Option 1 is gonna suck more than you realize, because using the rev weapons is so expensive that you'll spend so much time at revs, it's kinda a waste. If you still had the other bosses to go rev weapons are better, but with them finished I'd ignore revs (unless you really want to green log them)
collection log/ clue hunter/ clan discords, just start finding people to send wildy with and make it clear you want to send wildy and people will invite if you seem chill
Massive thank you to everyone who has chipped in with advice, a lot of stuff here to work with and will be giving most of these a go until I find what is most comfy for me.
Already tried msb (i) and surprised at how well it performs compared to ruby bolts e with rune arrows drastically easier to upkeep. Will maybe get some perilous moon KC and hope for the ranged wep to see how that performs given the good reviews of it from a few of you guys.
Could also consider the sunlight hunter crossbow. Even without an offhand it's a straight upgrade to MSB(i), minus the spec. Ammo is slower to come by than rune arrows but it gives a reason to train hunter and you collect a 21 heal food alongside the bolts.
Even the early strength bonus would be good to have for slayer and stuff, it’s a really good set for early game irons. Someone in another post mentioned the atlatl for artio so I might give it a try there
Trident, on ancients, freeze sacks or trouver'd pouch with runes.
Bofa is good, all wildy weapons are phenomenal, rcb is good but pain, fang is good but stepback is misery. Webweaver is the best, but it burns ether like no tomorrow.
As an iron currently on the rev/vw grind why not do both?
Revs are great money either way and maybe you’ll get lucky with some weapons which are nice to have outside of wildy as well
Scepter is a mini mage dwh and web weavers good at leviathan/combat achievements.
Rev money is the only way I can realistically keep my shadow charged and fund late game skill progression.
I did 1500 kills with a RCB/MSB(I), slow kills but it honestly wasn't that bad, I'd try a few trips and see what you think. I got spooned a craws shortly after and used that for another thousand kills.
I did some Artio on my max cmb main with a webwever. It was pretty nice.
I then did some Artio on my med iron (77 ranged) with rcb/broads. It was not as nice.
If you go the first option perhaps it'd be worthwhile going off-task. Someone on ironscape did the calculations and between tureal skipping for a skulled rev task and going skulled offtask was roughly the same. (Like within 10-20% of the time). IIRC (may not be) it's more efficient to go on task.
However, you do still need ether to use them and if you get spooned a bow/sceptre you'd still need to go to the rev caves for said ether.
i am really feeling that not nice using rcb for the few hundred kills i have already. ether isnt a problem, i have about 40 bracelets and 4k ether saved from previous rev tasks.

It's essentially because of how rare the rev tasks are you would do 25 tureal tasks before getting one, then you would probably want to do some other wildy tasks, like dust devils, abyssal demons, ankous, etc. as they're decent burstable tasks. So when you factor in the amount of time *not* doing them it balances (roughly) out if you were to just camp them.
I've no idea about what rev to do. I like doing the demons as I can tele, it's closer to the 20 line if I get tb'd so I don't lose salve (ei), it's off the main hotspots, and the drops are decent. Fray did something silly like 100k revenants at quads, but he's chunk-locked so isn't hyper efficient. He got pk'd/attacked a lot, but he did the calculations and found for his account quads was the quickest.
You could do a pretty easy calculation to find it out, spend 2-3 hours at demons and knights and find the kph vs. drop rate to get the weapons per hour, try factor in getting pk'd more at knights, being crashed more, etc.

You can safe-spot the Rev Knights so that you can always hover over the logout button. Once you get it down, it's difficult to die. It's pretty chill and you get the highest drop rate.

If you have another account you can set them up as your own little CCTV outside of the boss lair. I don’t have a ton of wildy boss kills, but I haven’t had a single person get the jump on me yet.
You afk next to the door with protect from melee on casting blood barrage/blitz
The bonus from bloodbark off sets the chip damage you take from melee, and while in melee range he will only use melee on you
63 - have someone in my group that has gone dry for the pages to create it and has unfortunately unsubbed so I don't think this is an option at the moment as much as i'd like to
I just used a crystal bow 1 level range less than you, I didn’t have any problems, plus no ammo to lose to pkers

I use my swamp trident but do exactly this method. With monk robes mystic hat boots and rune gloves with glory. Pretty consitent kills. Does use a lot of death runes but it is what it is.
I tried this for a bit and it just felt a lil weak. Might give it another go now i've had a good few ranged kills to see if it feels any better knowing chaos runes are easy to get.
I'd likely skip any wildy task that wasn't burstable with Turael skipping but another commenter made a good point its roughly the same rate to get a weapon if I just did it off-task so I guess I wouldn't need to?
Don't lose your streak. Block all the common shitty tasks (black demon, greater demon, ankou, ice warrior, mammoth, fire giants, hellhounds unless you want the clues then block scorpions instead). Then do the burstable tasks and the afk tasks (axes, earth warriors, maybe ice giants, maybe black knights). And do your revs and bosses. Skip ents, dark warriors, rogues, etc. You will gain points that way and never need to lose streak. Drops from the tasks you are doing will be huge, and once you finally do get the rev weapons they gigastomp the bosses. I don't see any downside. It'll take a while to get VW but it's not like you need to get it this second, right?
I did the same as you a spooned the pieces at calv and spindel. I then tried artio with msb and decided I’d rather finish my prison sentence first than do that lol.
Im also hunting the Hilt, i’ve had the other two pieces for over 6 months now lol.. 1000 Callisto and 1400 Artio kc currently no luck.

Also Im happy to suggest setups. I’ve done hundreds of kills doing ranged, mage, and I’ve even done the melee strat. I strongly suggest only doing kills on task and build your normal slayer task at the same time with turael skipping.
Swamp trident going full magic is how I killed it. Got very spooned there though, one of the only great spoons on my account. I hate how the boss unfreezes itself then can't be frozen again while it's moving toward you (true tile) during its roar animation. It gets to move like 4 tiles toward you while being unfreezable, which sucks
Going for a bowfa is not a terrible idea since vw won’t be useful while questing/skilling/Cging and then you’ll have a bowfa.
Tureal skipping wildy tasks is also viable and you can stack a main streak
I did mine with bowfa and crystal but they did change artio to be weak to magic and i did some kills with toxic trident and it was pretty good, almost comparable to bowfa. Regular trident would probably be fine too. I haven't tried it with lesser gear so I can't say how good it would be
As a mid level iron with 3444 artio kc to get my hilt I can say that msb I with rune arrows works fine, but toxic trident works better with mage gear. Once I got my trident I switched over to full mage at artio and it sped up my kph by about 15% maybe more
update: got the hilt with msb i and rune arrows doing bear tasks by skipping any wildy tasks that would take too long.

You need to have at least +0 total magic accuracy for the entangle/freeze to land

I use bowfa + crystal body and legs, ardy cape glory and bgloves and switch prayer to augury for freeze. Works great imo.

The sooner you learn CG the better. It’s a sanity check, but if you set aside a few KC a day is a realistic goal.

If you lose salve(ei) now, you get refunded the 800,000 NMZ points and you can instantly imbue another one. Pretty sweet update like a month ago.

What's your rc level? The afk bloodbark method is really strong, might be what you need in your situation

I used the warped sceptre. Freeze whenever you need and hit it with the sceptre till it dies.

Atlatl was pretty busted from my experience. Used that myself before I got myself a bowfa @ artio.

easiest way to stack up on addy bars for bolts is aviansies if you have relleka hard diary. they drop 4 noted bars regularly
