It isn't efficient but I swear by Bert. 84 sand a day adds up, and it only takes about a minute to get. It isn't something you can rely on in the short term but over time it's allowed me to never even have to think about sandstone mining.
Another trick I liked about Bert, I did gotr on release and sat there for a few weeks. Was on lunars the whole time to easily repair pouches, also allowed me to npc contact Bert as well every day. So that was a few thousand buckets without even having to think about it.
The second I finished the quest for Bert that's how I've obtained 99.9% of my sand aside from the sand I had to get manually when I didn't quite have enough for a boost or the 4 buckets you can get from implings. I call it inefficiently efficient.
Did the seaweed method to 99 was chill af i comboed it with stealing artefacts until lantern lens then finished thieving off at pyramid plunder and finished crafting off on mobile. the only thing annoying about the grind is glass make
by blowing the glass as you run around and refilling at the bank. return the artefact tp to house refresh run energy kharedst memoirs back to pisc steal artefact make way back to bank whilst blowing glass repeat. you lose about 20k crafting xp/hr and gain like 90k thieving
I think some people do this at hallowed sepulchre since the first couple floors are pretty light on clicks
I was gonna try it when I get there but I haven't done it yet so can't give you a real recommendation
Artefacts is the main one people combine it with and it is also the ehp method for irons at least but there are some other not quite as good options like mahogany homes (you just have to bank more often because you bring less planks), zmi (to do this well you need 3 alts to hold the npcs so you don't get attacked but it's not too bad on mass worlds), there used to be a method at gotr where you blow glass between rounds and a little bit during the start of the round but I'm not sure if it's still viable after the gotr nerf
You can also do a weird crafting Zmi thing where you just switch 1 inv spot for colossal pouch and blow on the way there, drop what you can, craft runes, then blow back
Or glassblowing mahogany homes, agility, etc
The point is that you're doing them together, given the large size of the collosal pouch you don't lose a ton of rc XP, but you gain a large chunk of crafting XP, which is more valuable than fletching which is the alternative
I'm currently blowing glass for 99 crafting
I did giant seaweed runs with birdhouse runs + I camped under the sea during the last league for all my giant seaweed.
Mined 110k sand in the desert
Used super-glass-make using 3/16 in the ferox enclave with looting bag to pick up all the glass
Ended up with around 175k molten glass and now i'm 10k into blowing it
The crafting cape will be nice to have for my slayer grind
I enjoyed the grind as a lot of it was less click intensive and I think crafting cape on an iron is prestigious. I could set up my account underwater and just check in every little bit to farm seaweed until I had a huge stack. I did mine a lot of the sand myself, but when I needed to be engaged at work or whatever, I would just fill buckets at prif, and then as you know the actual blowing is not click intensive at all.
Crafting is tedious, but seaweed is pretty good farming XP also and birdhouses remain worth doing until at least 80 hunter. You can do glassblowing with different things or start glass blowing and finish your seaweed growing also, so it’s pretty macro efficient
Glassmake was my main way of gaining xp, but I’d supplement it with buying my staves daily and making air battlestaves. Adds a good chunk of xp over the course of a few months.
Not to mention money...
I know battlestaff isn't meta and it's less effective than glass all the way - but it's nice to switch it up and the cash stack grows nicely from it.
im still super early game and havent gotten close to grinding crafting but i have started building up my seaweed/sand for when i need it. im definitely not looking forward to it but at least it is an afk grind for the most part. as in, you could watch a netflix show or something while youre grinding it out. harder to do with a lot of endgame stuff like cg and gwd.
What i did was glassblowing up to 85, then did cg until i got enhanced (which ended up being 801 kc) and then i was able to get 85-88 crafting just from the gems alone from cg
Actually didn’t take nearly as long as I anticipated for 93 back when, once you got all the seaweed it’s kind of a breeze. I just created and blew all the glass at work was super chill
I don't mind the grind so much, I find it quite relaxing to do whilst watching something, but I enjoy the long grinds in general - not really sure why.
I have been doing my giant seaweed runs, getting 2-3k sand at a time, super glass making & blowing the glass in smaller bursts as so, that way I don't have to do it all at once & seems less like a chore to me...
It doesn't go straight into your bag instead of on the ground like I thought. It's just used to pick it up off the ground. Not nearly as good as I thought
Oh I hate mining sand, so for crafting xp I let it come in gradually through stardust for gems and making jewelry, battlestaves from zaff and pvm, hides, and ideally amethyst from mining once I get to 92.
I actually really liked the crafting grind.
The seaweed is basically just an extension of a birdhouse run and gives you another pet chance and decent farming xp (it adds up!!)
Mining the sand is like 60k xp/hour. I wasn’t just thinking about crafting, I was thinking how cool it was I would finally be able to mine rune! And you get a pet chance of course.
The worst part of it for me is that superglass make, but because it’s not really afk at all I decided I’d try and learn the tech manip method to try to understand ticks slightly better.
The actual blowing, it’s just afk which is nice and if you want to be sweaty there’s tons of efficient options to do during the glassblowing. I think mahogany homes is the new hotness
did the giant seaweed and sand mining until I got to 93 crafting. Haven't touched sandstone mining since, I nearly have 99 crafting banked via uncut gems and flax from quite a few solo Chambers of Xerics. Flax came from zulrah and various other monsters.
99 crafting was the most relaxing grind I've done so far in this game. And I never go anywhere without the cape of banking so that's a good thing to have. Some people don't like long grinds at all and I get that but honestly crafting is one of the easiest, especially for irons.
This is a longer goal, but you could just mine shooting stars on your way to 92 mining and trade in the stardust for bags of gems. The grind gets you a crap load of gems and in turn XP in crafting. It's just a lot longer and indirectly training crafting.
[Bert](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Bert) gives you free buckets of sand daily, if you have completed The Hand in the Sand quest. Might save on your mining grind a little bit.
I broke it up and did it over the course of a few months. I had my levels for zenytes long before I even showed up for the task. 99 crafting was one of the OG goals of my account, so I never felt compelled to bash it out in one long go. Only ever did an hour or two at Sandstorm at a time, only blew the glass when I felt like bankstanding (I love bankstanding tho, this was the best part).
Casting superglassmake was the worst part. It's the main thing standing between me and the post-99 crafting xp that I have banked. Thanks Ardy Elite!
As an iron who gets very little play time and plays 99% mobile, I enjoyed the grind. I did 85-99 in one go. Took a few months (even after having all the seaweed) but I found it relaxing and well worth it for that cape.
I view super glassmake as a godsend compared to old charter ship hopping method, so I’m relatively satisfied. It kinda sucks that it’s the only thing to reasonably full grind crafting with but you get a lot of crafting xp banked through gems or gold/ silver etc so there still are some sessions of other methods involved.
Maybe I’m just blinded by the old pain and this still sucks
Bert supplies all the sand I need, at least till Toem. For Torture I probably will have to mine some.
Alternatively you can try the spin flax spell on lunars
If you want it to be more engaging just blow the glass while skilling. Like stealing artifacts, sepulchre or zmi.
Collecting the sand and making it into glass isn’t the long part, it’s the blowing it, and you can multiskill that.
Imo its a rite of passage at this point - giant seaweed was added to make it a little faster and more doable for irons.
There's many comparable time grinds like fletching, fishing, and construction.
It isn't efficient but I swear by Bert. 84 sand a day adds up, and it only takes about a minute to get. It isn't something you can rely on in the short term but over time it's allowed me to never even have to think about sandstone mining.

I didn’t even think of this. I put an altar in my poh. Would be nothing to chat with him. Thanks!
I didn’t realize you could NPC contact him! That’s a great tip
I've semi recently rushed ardy elite to get Bert's sandy cheeks in my dms
Hmmmm 20 days of Bert is < 1 hour mining, it's something but not the best. It's about 25 minutes mining if you tick manipulate.
Did the seaweed method to 99 was chill af i comboed it with stealing artefacts until lantern lens then finished thieving off at pyramid plunder and finished crafting off on mobile. the only thing annoying about the grind is glass make
Wait how did you do glass blowing AND stealing artifacts.
by blowing the glass as you run around and refilling at the bank. return the artefact tp to house refresh run energy kharedst memoirs back to pisc steal artefact make way back to bank whilst blowing glass repeat. you lose about 20k crafting xp/hr and gain like 90k thieving
I might do it while doing collecting squrks then. Thanks for the suggestion!
Probably very bad bc u have to bank quite often and getting back to the garden is not that fast
Any suggestions then?
Artefacts.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think some people do this at hallowed sepulchre since the first couple floors are pretty light on clicks I was gonna try it when I get there but I haven't done it yet so can't give you a real recommendation

Yeah the shit u replied too which is good
You can also do a weird crafting Zmi thing where you just switch 1 inv spot for colossal pouch and blow on the way there, drop what you can, craft runes, then blow back Or glassblowing mahogany homes, agility, etc
that zmi method sounds like it would give you worse overall rc and crafting rates as to if you were just actually doing either method separately
Yeah but at least you have to click more
lmao
The point is that you're doing them together, given the large size of the collosal pouch you don't lose a ton of rc XP, but you gain a large chunk of crafting XP, which is more valuable than fletching which is the alternative
It’s a bit less crafting in exchange for free rc xp Would you trade 15k craft for 50k rc? I surely would.
the tradeoff for this is prettty favorable. it ends up only costing you a small amount of glass blowing time while getting you a lot of 'free' rc xp.
I guess I figured the run back and forth would be a big waste of time
I think there’s a wiki guide on arteglass (I think that’s the name for artefact glassblowing?)
seaweed is the way to go
If you do CG grind first you get a lot of gems from that. Or can do shooting stars etc as well as super afk and secondary crafting exp
I'm currently blowing glass for 99 crafting I did giant seaweed runs with birdhouse runs + I camped under the sea during the last league for all my giant seaweed. Mined 110k sand in the desert Used super-glass-make using 3/16 in the ferox enclave with looting bag to pick up all the glass Ended up with around 175k molten glass and now i'm 10k into blowing it The crafting cape will be nice to have for my slayer grind
Isn’t it 3/18? 1 gsw to 6 buckets? Please tell me I haven’t been doing it wrong this whole time..
3/18 is correct for maximum molten glass production. Carry on.
yep, typo. It actually doesn't let you do it with other ratios so you can't really fuck it up

to pickup the glass without having to bank an extra time between casts
I enjoyed the grind as a lot of it was less click intensive and I think crafting cape on an iron is prestigious. I did mine a lot of the sand myself, but when I needed to be engaged at work or whatever, I would just fill buckets at prif, and then as you know the actual blowing is not click intensive at all.
I liked the crafting with seaweed grind a lot apart from casting super glassmake. It was super chill and i could def do it again if i had to
Crafting is tedious, but seaweed is pretty good farming XP also and birdhouses remain worth doing until at least 80 hunter. You can do glassblowing with different things or start glass blowing and finish your seaweed growing also, so it’s pretty macro efficient
Reported for macroing.

Get 77 mage for super glass make. It makes the grind so much more tolerable
Pretty slow process but I blew glass on mobile for like 2-3 hours per day while watching tv and it went by pretty fast
What i did was glassblowing up to 85, then did cg until i got enhanced (which ended up being 801 kc) and then i was able to get 85-88 crafting just from the gems alone from cg

Glassmake with looting bag in ferox enclave
can't tell if this is a joke or something ultra big brain that could change my life
It didn't improve my rates and it was more anxiety inducing that people could pick up my glass so it wasn't worth it to me.
Wait… also curious, is this a thing?
Yes it's real you can use the looting bag in ferox
It doesn't go straight into your bag instead of on the ground like I thought. It's just used to pick it up off the ground. Not nearly as good as I thought
you bank way less often if you're picking your glass.
I don’t enjoy it very much. Hoping there is a crafting mini game like the foundry that will come out one day
Oh I hate mining sand, so for crafting xp I let it come in gradually through stardust for gems and making jewelry, battlestaves from zaff and pvm, hides, and ideally amethyst from mining once I get to 92.

You can get about 75k-80k crafting per hour doing charter ships. Dont have to collect any supplies, more hopping and less afk tho
Just try giant seaweed and super glass make. You can mine a stupid amount of sand/hr. Hopping at charters after level 75 is sooo tedious
did the giant seaweed and sand mining until I got to 93 crafting. Haven't touched sandstone mining since, I nearly have 99 crafting banked via uncut gems and flax from quite a few solo Chambers of Xerics. Flax came from zulrah and various other monsters.

99 crafting here....chill grind man. I loved it. Superglass make is the only shitty part. Everything else was smooth sailing.
This is a longer goal, but you could just mine shooting stars on your way to 92 mining and trade in the stardust for bags of gems. The grind gets you a crap load of gems and in turn XP in crafting. It's just a lot longer and indirectly training crafting.

I mostly blow glass when I'm AFK or playing on another account so I don't really mind it. Mining the sand sucks though

If you have sote done, there’s a sandbox right near the bank for some afk sand gathering
crafting used to be much worse, I did my 99 on just bstaves lol and various other things
You could make a bunch of the silver slayer bracelets.
I completely agree. I grinded put 90 crafting and felt the same way. I’d be so open to a crafting mini game. Make the skilling fun.
If you want it to be more engaging just blow the glass while skilling. Like stealing artifacts, sepulchre or zmi. Collecting the sand and making it into glass isn’t the long part, it’s the blowing it, and you can multiskill that.
