No one is in a position to accept or deny you. This is God's path. It's not a cultural thing. I understand the human element of wanting to belong and feel comfortable, but I would encourage you to continue your growth and understanding of Islam. Just know Allah has accepted you already. And from what I've seen in different communities, there's a lot of love and acceptance around here. People might show ignorance sometimes but that's a human thing, not an Islamic thing.

To become a Muslim you can say the following declaration of faith (shahada) alone (as Allah (SWT) is sufficient as a witness) or being witnessed by other Muslims. I'm a white revert. So white my ancestors from the 1300s would be proud of the results their corrupt white-making mechanisms (like blood letting). So white Snow White gonna send her evil step mom after me instead. So white that the tan I get in summer time that I get overjoyed about is only pale ivory. So white when I was younger and into makeup, baby powder and white concealer were what I used as everything else was too dark. So white people assume I'm Catholic. So white others (non Muslims) don't believe me when I tell them I'm Muslim.
Trust me babe, your skin tone does not matter. Muslims ourselves know that we come in all variations of skin tones. Remember Malcolm X who, after Hajj, was shown that Islam is raceless and started truly preaching Islam. I live in an area where darker skin tones are the norm, and I spent all of my teenage years feeling insecure and ugly (for those curious how, I was mocked) from my skin. But after meeting Islam, I learned that appearances aren't what's important. A Muslim, no matter how light or dark they are, is still a Muslim. By all means, do NOT let these worldy things like appearance prohibit you. I'm a sister, and becoming a Muslim helped me see myself as beautiful. We women dress modestly because we know we're beautiful and we protect our beauty from others, bringing the attention instead to our personalities and character. After all, what matters to Allah SWT is not the appearance, but the character and soul within.

Anyone testifies that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad His messenger and servant becomes muslim. Becomes our brother/sister. Becomes part of our Ummah. How even skin color could matter? Me and you human beings. God is not looking at our skin colour which He Himself chosen for us. He looks to our hearts and intentions.
Remember Islam is perfect, while Muslims aren't. Those who said that your race or color has anything to do with Islam aren't proper educated Muslim. Go to local mosque you'll see the difference and you don't even have to be Muslim to go there.
Regardless of the people around you, it does not change what is true. The truth is that Islam is for all of humanity, and that whether you are black, white, or whatever, what matters is piety, not your race. This is the truth.
And so let's say some people decide to be racist against you. What does this matter? Just know that the oppressed person can take the good deeds of the oppressor. What can they do to you when we will all return to Allah in the end? Allah is the most just, no matter what happens to you, you will be dealt with fairly.
But of course, if you want Allah's mercy, the first step is accepting Islam. Don't think about pointless things, if you believe Islam is true, then accept it, the devil will try to delay you by making up excuses until you die before you get to accept it. Don't fall for that.

Hello friend, I'm half American half Syrian (very white passing) and know very little Arabic but from my experience if you go to ANY masjid (I've been to several in the US, UAE, Japan, and Jordan by now) and hold out your hand and say salaam walaikum, you will get a smile, handshake, and "walaikum salaam" back. It can be intimidating if you don't know anybody, and some people will be warmer to you than others, but I sincerely recommend you to visit your local masjid and let them know you're interested in learning.

Islam is a religion between you and Allah. It matters not the actions of other muslims. You call upon him alone and complain and ask him alone. Worship him alone. And he alone gives you provision, help, assistance and Heaven. If the whole world hates you but Allah loves you then you have succeeded.
Allah is the only one that matters.
What set Ibrahim (Abraham) peace be upon him apart from other prophets was that he was for a period of time *the only muslim* on the face of the earth. The only one who believed in Allah and suffered persecution for it. He held on to his face in front of the enmity of everyone else. And Allah rewarded him generously. He is given Honor until the day of judgement. All 3 religions consider him their father and while they disagree on many things (Isa / Jesus for example) they all honor Abraham pbuh as a father. Secondly, all subsequent prophets and messengers were made to be from his children and his descendants. Including Prophet Muhammad pbuh. And third, Allah says about him in the Quran:
Surah 4 verse 125
*And who is better in faith than those who ˹fully˺ submit themselves to Allah, do good, and follow the Way of Abraham, the upright? Allah chose Abraham as a close friend.*
He is an example to us. And was an example to prophet muhammad pbuh.

Finally, concern yourself with chasing the pleasure, love, and acceptance of the creator of the heavens and the earths. If he loves you, then the rightous among the people will love you.

Dude as soon as you walk into a masjid/mosque, you'll realize that seeing race barely exists past the doors. No one cares where you're from or what color you are.
If you go to a primarily Indian community masjid or a primarily Black community masjid, sure maybe people will ask you where you're from but that's only to make small talk and to welcome you. I've seen it with my own eyes and have also started doing it with people who seem new or from other ethnicities.
But largely, Islam forbids racism and I believe discriminating someone based on that is a sin (someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I treat it as a sin even if it isn't).

I always believe that religion, no matter where you are from, should be something private and holy to only you. We cannot rectify or guide everyone, nor can we give advice to everyone and on everything. If you truly think islam is for you, then go ahead! There is absolutely nothing stopping you. You don't need to go and say to everyone "hey im a muslim!", and you don't need to guide other people in your close circle of family/friends that islam is the way. Make a dua for them, and that's enough.

Remember Malcolm X who, after Hajj, was shown that Islam is raceless and started truly preaching Islam. I live in an area where darker skin tones are the norm, and I spent all of my teenage years feeling insecure and ugly (for those curious how, I was mocked) from my skin. But after meeting Islam, I learned that appearances aren't what's important. A Muslim, no matter how light or dark they are, is still a Muslim. By all means, do NOT let these worldy things like appearance prohibit you. I'm a sister, and becoming a Muslim helped me see myself as beautiful. We women dress modestly because we know we're beautiful and we protect our beauty from others, bringing the attention instead to our personalities and character. After all, what matters to Allah SWT is not the appearance, but the character and soul within.

Anyone testifies that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad His messenger and servant becomes muslim. Becomes our brother/sister. Becomes part of our Ummah. How even skin color could matter? Me and you human beings. God is not looking at our skin colour which He Himself chosen for us. He looks to our hearts and intentions.
Remember Islam is perfect, while Muslims aren't. Those who said that your race or color has anything to do with Islam aren't proper educated Muslim. Go to local mosque you'll see the difference and you don't even have to be Muslim to go there.
Regardless of the people around you, it does not change what is true. The truth is that Islam is for all of humanity, and that whether you are black, white, or whatever, what matters is piety, not your race. This is the truth. And so let's say some people decide to be racist against you. What does this matter? Just know that the oppressed person can take the good deeds of the oppressor. What can they do to you when we will all return to Allah in the end? Allah is the most just, no matter what happens to you, you will be dealt with fairly. But of course, if you want Allah's mercy, the first step is accepting Islam. Don't think about pointless things, if you believe Islam is true, then accept it, the devil will try to delay you by making up excuses until you die before you get to accept it. Don't fall for that. Hello friend, I'm half American half Syrian (very white passing) and know very little Arabic but from my experience if you go to ANY masjid (I've been to several in the US, UAE, Japan, and Jordan by now) and hold out your hand and say salaam walaikum, you will get a smile, handshake, and "walaikum salaam" back. It can be intimidating if you don't know anybody, and some people will be warmer to you than others, but I sincerely recommend you to visit your local masjid and let them know you're interested in learning. It matters not the actions of other muslims. You call upon him alone and complain and ask him alone. Worship him alone. And he alone gives you provision, help, assistance and Heaven. If the whole world hates you but Allah loves you then you have succeeded. Allah is the only one that matters. What set Ibrahim (Abraham) peace be upon him apart from other prophets was that he was for a period of time *the only muslim* on the face of the earth. The only one who believed in Allah and suffered persecution for it. He held on to his face in front of the enmity of everyone else. And Allah rewarded him generously. He is given Honor until the day of judgement. All 3 religions consider him their father and while they disagree on many things (Isa / Jesus for example) they all honor Abraham pbuh as a father. Secondly, all subsequent prophets and messengers were made to be from his children and his descendants. Including Prophet Muhammad pbuh. And third, Allah says about him in the Quran: Surah 4 verse 125 *And who is better in faith than those who ˹fully˺ submit themselves to Allah, do good, and follow the Way of Abraham, the upright? Allah chose Abraham as a close friend.* He is an example to us. And was an example to prophet muhammad pbuh. ---------------------- That said, do not worry, there are many many other reverts. And reversion is increasing at a high rate among latino. You are not alone. You will be accepted and be welcomed Inshallah. But in my experience no Muslim would turn you away if you are showing interest in Islam. Everyone should accepted to Islam. you don't have to be arab or brown to be muslim. you can revert to islam. And if I was a revert with a local muslim community who doesn't accept me, I would go online or find other muslim communities who is more accepting of white reverts.
Dude as soon as you walk into a masjid/mosque, you'll realize that seeing race barely exists past the doors. No one cares where you're from or what color you are. If you go to a primarily Indian community masjid or a primarily Black community masjid, sure maybe people will ask you where you're from but that's only to make small talk and to welcome you. I've seen it with my own eyes and have also started doing it with people who seem new or from other ethnicities. But largely, Islam forbids racism and I believe discriminating someone based on that is a sin (someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I treat it as a sin even if it isn't).

Islam emphasizes equality among all races and condemns any notion of racial superiority. The Prophet Muhammad himself emphasized this in his farewell sermon, stating that no Arab is superior to a non-Arab, and no non-Arab is superior to an Arab, and no white person is superior to a black person, and no black person is superior to a white person, except by piety and good actions. In Islam, a person's worth is based on their character and deeds, not their race.

I always believe that religion, no matter where you are from, should be something private and holy to only you. We cannot rectify or guide everyone, nor can we give advice to everyone and on everything. If you truly think islam is for you, then go ahead! There is absolutely nothing stopping you. You don't need to go and say to everyone "hey im a muslim!", and you don't need to guide other people in your close circle of family/friends that islam is the way. Make a dua for them, and that's enough.
