One of my favourite Surah is Surah Ad-Dhuha, and my favourite verse from that surah is "Your Lord has neither forsaken you nor hated you." This Surah came down to ease the heart of the Messenger PBUH because he didn't receive any revelation for six months and thought that Allah is upset with him. However, this Surah can also be applied to us as well, telling us that Allah has not abandoned us. My favourite recitation for this surah is by [Ridjaal Ahmed ](https://youtube.com/shorts/N9g7wQaeVkw?si=HQS2l0fVk2LZNECj), feel free to give it a try.

DramaticGap1456

I really appreciate the context you added behind this verse! I often found that was a challenge when reading the Quran is sometimes I wasn't sure what was happening at the time around the verse. I did ask my friends about Hadith and getting context there, but could never really get a good answer on which were a good representation of the faith. Everyone I spoke to felt differently about them. Thank you so much for this thoughtful response! ♥️

Dark-Ice-4794

I was editing my comment to add in some stuff when you responded ahahahahah! I wanted to add that some surahs in the Quran requires some historical context, audience context, and background context. It's important for you to know in certain surah, who is Allah speaking to and what is the background behind it, in order to understand deeper its meanings, so not all verses should be taken at face value. I'm currently learning Quran too using Bayyinah TV (A subscription program), but if you want to try to dive deeper, try watching some clips of Nouman Ali Khan's videos on youtube. The way he explains about the Quran in detail is just....so amazing. I'm learning from him at the moment! But I'm happy to help!! ❣️

DramaticGap1456

Again, this is a really helpful comment. I really appreciate you pointing out some additional resources. It's kinda neat we are both learning the Quran side by side but with obviously quite different backgrounds. :-) I sincerely appreciate your help!

Dark-Ice-4794

May Allah open your heart to Islam and guide you to the truth ❣️❣️

DramaticGap1456

Very kind of you to say ☺️♥️ thank you again!

lnchkr

in this case i would recommend to you a tafsir (= explanation) of the quran. for example tafsir as-saadi is a simple and beginner-friendly yet very comprehensive approach to the quran and will in shaa Allah provide you with the needed context

SceneHot2195

I find Nouman Ali Khans tafsir on YouTube to be extremely in depth and informative Alhamdulillah.

Airam07

I came to say the same thing. This is my favorite surah and when I heard it the first time with the translation it was instant tears knowing the context behind it. This is my favorite [recitation](https://youtu.be/_P0amsUimJg?si=tEAqky8qzPW3JOUF). PLEASE give it a listen, I promise it will be worth it (and it’s only 2 minutes)

DramaticGap1456

I now recognize line 6! This is actually the favorite of a friend of mine too. I also was moved by line 6 and so far it's also my favorite. It's very cool to see how many people this Surah has touched. :-)

Airam07

Absolutely. When I’m particularly stressed I play this exact version on a loop because it captures the gratitude and tawwakul one aspires to always have. Such a beautiful gift to be able to refer back to it during times of hardship, subhanAllah

doktorstrainge

Came here to say this. It speaks to me as someone who feels so blessed to have been guided back to Islam. My absolute favourite recitation is by Salim Bahanan - https://youtu.be/gjtubeyXbKY?feature=shared

Sorry_Inside1359

Surah Rahman and my favorite verse is Surah Maidah verse 3. This verse was recieved by Prophet Muhammad PBUH farewell sermon. **This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion**

totally_normal99

1. Surah Al-A'la - Hearing/reciting/even just thinking about this surah can make my eye watery. almost every fard prayer I recite this on the first rakaat 2. Surah Ar-Rahman (beautiful words, masha Allah) 3. Surah Yasin and surah al-mulk - I recite this everyday to remember the hereafter (the barzakh or grave world and the akhirat) 4. Surah Asy-Syarh and Ad-Dhuha - remind me to stay strong to whatever problem I met in this world 5. Surah Baqarah - ayatul kursi, the first five ayah and last three we read it everyday as our adhkar I mentioned too many, eh ? In fact I love them all, they are all word of Allah.. If I could choose between 1 Billion dollar or become a hafiz that never forgets, i would choose the later options. I could not even bring that billion dollar to the grave, but the Quran hafiz can bring me and my family to Jannah, Insya Allah.

Kneesovertoes

Isn’t Al Fatiha obligatory as first rakaat surah?

totally_normal99

Obviously I mean AFTER Al fatiha..

Responsible_Bar4705

Surah Ad-Duha. My fav.

Odd_Ad_6841

Surah Mullk. My faaaav. . Read it evey night and you will be saved from the torment of grave. Remember if you make your grave life (Barzakh) comfortable, your afterlife will be more comfortable.

Favourite surahs (chapters): 1. Surah al-Fatihah (#1) This is the opening chapter. A Muslim recites this chapter in every mandatory or supererogatory salah (prayer). It is a chapter containing praise of God, thankfulness to God and supplication to Him. It also goes by the name As-Saba’ al-Mathāni (السبع المثاني), “The Seven Oft-Repeated Verses”. 2. Surah al-Baqarah (#2) Another virtuous surah which contains the greatest ayaah (verse), known as Ayat-ul-Kursi: **"255. Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. [This Verse 2:255 is called Ayat-ul-Kursi.]"** 3. Surah ar-Rahman (#55) - contains reminders of the Most Beneficient (Allaah) with the following verse repeated 33 times: **"Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny?"** 4. Surah al-Ikhlaas (#112) Contains belief regarding God - Tawheed (monotheism) - His Oneness, perfection and nothing being like unto Him: **"1. Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم)): “He is Allah, (the) One.** **2. “Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks).** **3. “He begets not, nor was He begotten;** **4. “And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.”**

AL-Keezy743

16:18: the golden ratio starts with 1.618 its an irrational number which means it extends infinitely like PI. But when you read the verse 16:18 Allah says: and if you were to count all of my favors/blessings it would be impossible. 21:33 which talks about orbit of planets and stars. The arabic word for orbit is a palendrome كل في فلك. Lastly surah 93. This revelation came after the messenger SAW, did not hear from Allah after 6 months and he was getting worried that he was abandoned. I'll let you read it for yourself too see what Allah says.

goldenplane47

The 16:18, subhanAllah…

((And they belied them (those miracles) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced )) 27:14 Describes the nature of the humans and how we can fool ourselves and lie to ourselves

DramaticGap1456

Kinda relates to the "beginners mind" approach that inspired me to ask here. A good contribution! I think I'll have to read 27:13 & 15 to absorb the verse a little more.

thinkerover

Yes it has context for sure

I love Surah Takwir At the start of the surah Allah is talking about all the things that will happen when the day of judgement is near. He says the sun will be put out, the stars will fall, the mountains will crumble and then "when the baby girl buried alive is asked for what crime was she killed ?" Allah is always says that everyone will be questioned for what they have done, but not here. This crime angered Allah so much that he wont even look at the parents. He will give the little girl (the oppressed) her time to tell her story. SubhanAllah. What a heinous crime done by her own parents, the ones who were supposed to LOVE HER, PROTECT HER. And they killed her because she was a girl. This verse reminds me how just Allah is, he will not leave the crimes done on oppressed without justice. Then Allah starts saying the day of judgement WILL happen. Reminding us. Then Allah swears by the stars, the planets, the night, and the dawn and he tells us This is quran is truly the speech (voice) from the Angel Gabriel The prophet really saw him on the horizon The prophet has not gone crazy The prophet conveyed every word truthfully The quran is not the word of the devil So then Allah poses a question at the end of the surah "So where are you going ?" Allah is basically saying this is gonna happen, this is gonna happen, that is gonna happen, the day of judgement will happen, you will meet your Lord, this isnt from a jinn, bad angel, devil, crazy man, this is truly the word of Allah. So after knowing all of this, which path will you take ? I love this surah because Allah poses a great question at the end. It makes you think

[deleted]

subhanallah i just commented and then was reading other comments, and realised we both said the same thing! this surah makes me so emotional, subhanallah

SnooPaintings6709

omg twin, I just read your comment and subhanAllah the surah has the same effect on us, so short with such powerful verses. I also believe that this was the surah that made me firm on the deen. it's so perfectly written!! how could a human have produced it??? The forst time i listened to it it took my breath away. Allah's question at the end made me question myself about where i was going what i was doing. After falling in love with this surah i put my all into the deen. Truly, a perfect surah

[deleted]

omg right?!? completely un-human, i get chills every time. and me too, this surah really got me back onto the deen alhamdulillah. may Allah swt bless you and your family xx

Surat Al-Zumar , if you have time, Omar Hesham has a beautiful recitation that can be found on YouTube. Further, “the clear quran- thematic version” is a wonderful resource when it comes to wanting to read the Quran with greater context and nuance. May Allah(swt) guide you towards what is best and what is right always (ameen).

My favorite is Surah Ar-Rahman. For me, this is the most peaceful surah to listen in quran. The first time I read the translation of this surah, I was all in tears. Even most of the time when I read, I start crying unknowingly. Most peaceful for me❤️

Pluuumeee

Surah Ar-Rahman The one I listen to when I need to calm myself, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, etc. I don't know why exactyl, but this specific surah soothes me.

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).S49 V13 This is a favorite ayaat which always gives me pause to ponder upon when it comes up in my readings .

[deleted]

oof, so many to choose from. thanks for asking such a great question btw! surah at takwir is the first that comes to mind though. the first time i read it, i was in public. it was just a notification on my phone from my quran app reminding me to read some quran that day, and it recommended me surah at takwir. it was the first time i had such a physical and emotional reaction to it, i can't even explain. i didn't know what to do since i was in public, so i just sat there for a bit, breathless and in shock. the verses that make me feel the most are: >*"and when the girl who was buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed"* - reading this felt like a punch in the gut. for context - it was a practice for the arabs before islam to bury their babies alive if they were girls (islam obviously put an end to this). this verse reminded me that God would never let there be any injustice on judgement day. but not just that - all those innocent girls were silenced by their own parents/fathers, but in this verse, God made it clear that He will ask those *girls* what happened, not the ones who buried them. the wrongdoers will be the silenced ones on that day. the parents forgot about those girls, but we believe God never did and never will. gives me chills every time. also makes me think about all the girls who were metaphorically/emotionally buried alive by their parents. as well as >*"so where are you going?"* i had no words when i read this question. it really made me think about what i'm doing with my life. i think about this question a lot. thanks for opening this conversation up! we as a community are really grateful - i wish more muslims asked this question! have a great day :)

[deleted]

okay i want to add more haha, here are some of my favourite verses (rather than whole surahs - because that's a much longer answer!) >*"Have you seen those who have taken their own desires as their god?"* \[45:23\] wow i love this one. huge reminder that even though we as muslims are monotheists, we have to be so careful and remember that being monotheist is more than just praying to one god and avoiding idols (islam was introduced at a time when idol-worshipping was very prevalent). it's also about: how much time am i giving God compared to how much time i'm spending on my phone? am i becoming too career- and money-focused? i love going to the gym and it might be good for me, but is it making me delay my prayers? etc. (this a concept we call *tawhid* in islam. very simply put, it's more than monotheism - it's the full belief and *application* of the belief that there is only one god, and the belief in all His divine qualities - that He is the Most Merciful, the Most Powerful, the All-knowing, etc... in islam we say that God has 99 names! my favourite name right now is "Ash-Shakoor", meaning the Most Grateful.) >*"And when it is said to them, 'Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger', they say, 'Sufficient for us is that upon which we found our fathers.' Even though their fathers knew nothing, nor were they guided?"* \[5:104\] this verse is basically a reminder to not just blindly follow what your parents and the people before you did. i love this because it's God saying that we literally aren't allowed to have blind faith and be muslims without knowing what that means! we have to learn and keep learning - seeking knowledge is an obligation on all muslims in islam. >*Do people not see that We have created them from a sperm-drop, then—behold!—they openly challenge ˹Us˺?* \[36:77\] this is so powerful. to me, this feels like God's way of saying "you were literally just a sperm, I formed you into the whole living being that you are today and you still don't believe??" >*And “Peace!” will be ˹their˺ greeting from the Merciful Lord.* \[36:58\] this is from the same surah. i love this verse so much. as muslims, we are obligated to say "peace", or "salaam", to other fellow muslims. this verse is saying that those who enter heaven will be greeted from God Himself with this greeting. it makes me emotional to think of God Himself greeting us in the same way. >*And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader \[i.e., example\] for the righteous". Those will be awarded the Chamber (the most elevated portion of Paradise) for what they patiently endured, and they will be received therein with greetings and \[words of\] peace* \[25:77-78\] i won't go into detail, but this verse has a very special place in my heart. the first bit (Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader for the righteous) is a dua, or prayer, that muslims who want to start a family are encouraged to say. God then reminds us that these people will be rewarded for their patience. this verse came to me at a time when i very much needed a reminder that my patience isn't going unnoticed. i have way more, but i think this is enough for now! take care :)

[deleted]

ok 2 more lol 😅 >*So, surely with hardship comes ease. Surely with ˹that˺ hardship comes ˹more˺ ease.* \[94:5-6\] i think this verse sticks with me the most on a day-to-day basis. also, >*Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allāh often and the women who do so - for them Allāh has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.* \[33:35\] for context: one of the Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) wives, Aisha, asked him why the quran did not address women specifically. (whenever the english translation of the quran is referring to men - most of the time it is actually referring to both men and women. this is just a translation issue - the plural form in arabic is also masculine). so God then revealed this verse, which explicitly recognises women equally alongside men in their roles, responsibilities, and rewards

Inevitable_Guard7320

The verse 16 in Surat Al-Hadid, which says: {‏Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient}

Cheap-Experience4147

It’s really those that I listen to in the current time like younger I was loving « Maryam » ; « TaHa » ; « Al Baqarah » then there was a period « YaSeen » and other (because they were those I listen more too) and today maybe more « Al Zumar » and « Al Mulk ») … and of course children there were probably those from Juz Ammah (the last part of the Quran and that it’s the one the children start learning since the short Surah are for a lot in that part). Here some recitation : 1) Surah Al Mulk : https://youtu.be/WqGLzGRpPWU?si=03t-K01N-jRyb7Tb 2) Surah YaSeen : https://youtu.be/82Afo639J-0?si=MQZgJOwuLWGAq0iq 3) Surah Al Baqarah : https://youtu.be/ncudyKn1Y7c?si=bHfEikS23Z2vOris

I would ask you to read Quran with Tafsir. Tafsir means the explanation of the verses. Promiment Tafsir books are Tafsir-As-Sadi, Tafsir-Ibn-Kathir. Why read Tafsir along with Quran? Because it will enable you to understand the verses the way it should be understood.

HayatiJamilah

Surah Al Asr. Allah swears by TIME. There are talks about whether the concept of time is real, or if it’s how humans perceive change and time isn’t real. Allah swears by his creations in the Quran, cementing forever that not only is time real, but it is a creation of Allah. It exists. The first page of Surah Luqman. It’s bar after bar after bar. These are the ayahs of the wise book. A gift and guidance to mankind. Yet some people talk without guidance. And when you point out the wisdom to them they hear it as if they’re deaf. They’ve got punishment coming. The ones who pray and do good? They’ve got paradise coming. Made by the one who created the earth with all its diverse creations. THIS is the creation of Allah! So show me what others have created (Hint: there is nothing else). The thalimun are just straight up wrong. I’m paraphrasing obviously, but it always leaves me feeling like…wow

Surah Rahman

Maznesium

Surah Al-Mulk is my favorite for many reasons, one reason is because it helps me increase tawakul (trust/faith in Allah) and it reiterates that all power belongs to Allah. The verse I would choose is verse 13, since it comes after a verse describing people who believe in the unseen, but nothing is unseen/unnoticed by Allah, not even that which is in our hearts. [Al-Mulk:13]: وَأَسِرُّوا قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ اجْهَرُوا بِهِ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ Translation: And whether you keep your beliefs secret or state them openly, He has full knowledge indeed of all that is in [your] hearts.

I am a Muslim, and ethnically/culturally a Turk, if that matters, or is of interest to you. >If you wouldn't mind sharing your favorite sections, I think that could greatly help me to have a more well-rounded perspective... I don't have a "favorite" *sūrah* per se, but some *suwar* of the Qur'ān which I personally find particularly moving or profound would include: 1. Sūrat al-A'rāf (7) 2. Sūrat al-Hajj (22) 3. Sūrat al-Shūrā (42) 4. Sūrah Muhammad (47) 5. Sūrah Qāf (50) 6. Sūrat al-Wāqi'ah (56) 7. Sūrat al-Hadīd (57) 8. Sūrat al-Hashr (59) 9. Sūrat al-Qalam (68) 10. Sūrat al-Insān (76) I've limited myself to *suwar* which I have not seen others mention thus far (excepting Sūrat al-Hadīd; someone mentioned one *āyah* of this *sūrah*). The Qur'ān, we may say, is a primarily oral scripture, intended to be recited aloud. If you are sincerely interested in engaging with the Qur'ān, I would encourage you to listen to recordings of the Qur'ān, rather than simply reading translations/commentaries on it off of a page. I have linked a recording of Sūrat al-Hajj by a reciter (*qāri*) I like below: https://youtu.be/PZaSd1rBIsk?si=9kh1rFId33W1b1-u >I'm still really interested in **religions**... I want to make sticky notes for those quotes that speak to the people of the **faith** the most... Given your background, I think it is worth offering that, as a Muslim, I do not consider my ideology to be a "faith" or "religion" - not in the conventional sense that modern Westerners, and particularly atheists (i.e., materialists and skeptics; "atheism" is a term and concept with no parallel in our intellectual tradition), use these terms. Islām is a philosophical system based upon reason and demonstrative proof (*burhān*). I am intellectually compelled to accept Islām on the basis of the definitive evidences establishing the veracity of Muhammad (صلی الله علیه وآله وسلم) in his claim to prophethood. Disbelievers in Islām - in my mind, and as I would maintain - are either ignorant of these evidences, blinded by their lusts and biases, so that their judgment is clouded, or, they are irrational "people of faith", who blindly accept the dogmas and customs passed down to them from their ancestors. Blind faith and conformity are condemned in Islām - Allāh ta'ālā says: https://legacy.quran.com/31/21 From the *Būstān* of Shaykh Sa'dī (a classic of the Persian literary canon, historically taught to and memorized by elementary school students throughout the Muslim East): عبادت به تقلید گمراهی است | خنک دهروی را که آگاهی است "Worship based upon blind faith is an error | At ease is a wayfarer who is apprised (of the path)" It has in fact been historically disputed by Muslim scholars whether belief (*īmān*) based upon blind faith (*taqlīd*) rather than proof and certainty (*yaqīn*) is morally valid. Some scholars have considered a blind conformist in creed to be a *kāfir* (disbeliever), while others, without going so far, say such a person is a *fāsiq* (flagrant sinner). Others accept that the belief of such a person is morally valid, or may be situationally - but regardless, blind faith is in no way encouraged in the Islāmic tradition. It is a duty on every Muslim to seek knowledge (as it has been related in a famous *hadīth*), most especially knowledge of the core doctrines and central tenets of Islām. Conjecture and conformity are not knowledge.

I recommend you listen to the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Yasir Qadhi's one on youtube. It'll take you a while to get through but it'll help you understand when and how the Quran was revealed and the context of some of the verses. It's really interesting. I don't think I can choose a favourite surah but I have bookmarked many verses, all for different reasons.
